So no long term deal? Am I missing something?

  2. avatar Nyles says:

he has to prove himself again. I never thought he would get a long term deal after 1 year of performance. Two year deal tops. If he performs well again, then give him a 2-3 year deal.

  3. avatar mm30 says:

He will be traded at the deadline. This team will be out of contention and he will want to explore his options in the UFA market.

  4. avatar bob l says:

sad to say, but with another 30 goal year he’ll price himself right off the island, i will still root for him though

  5. avatar Oye Comeau Va says:

Good signing. Agree about no long term deal. Need to see if he was just a flash in the pan. Hope it works out well for everyone in the end.

  6. avatar Rob (in Pgh) says:

My hope is that he performs well and shows that last year wasn’t a fluke… but somewhere around the trade deadline they work out an extended contract rather than let him go. There’s just something likable about the guy beyond the 30 goals scored.

I do think that the $2.45mil is probably fair. It’s not a low-ball number but it’s not entirely breaking the bank for 1 good year.

  7. avatar geduffer says:

I think they did the right thing here. He gets paid for his performance last season and if he does it again, they can sign him long term. He may not be that anxious to leave here.

  8. avatar Madchef says:

seems like a fair deal, if he has a good season then you pay gim and extend him. one year sample size does not deserve a big contract, sorry.

  9. avatar symbol says:

the make it sound like he needs to prove him self. who eles is going to put the puck in the net this year. the team will be the lowest scoreing team in the nhl so if he gets 25 he will be there with the jt and kyle and the rest of this team.

  10. avatar Healy says:

Some good news after what could be called a “questionable” offseason thus far! I know arbitration is there for a reason but I am happy the Isles got this thing taken care of without having to go there. Bad things can happen there and I am glad the org stepped up. I think the price point and term are perfect. Giving him a little something for last years production while simultaneously saying prove last year wasn’t a fluke before exploring a longer term contract.

  11. avatar Don in Westchester says:

No problem with a 1 year signing here. Let him build a track record.

    Does anybody remember Mark Lawrence?

  12. avatar potvinrocks says:

I would have expected at least a 2 year deal. Bummer it’s not longer.

  13. avatar stopthepain says:

100% agree with # 3 – at the deadline he will be traded so we can “build for the future”…that will never come…

  14. avatar JT says:

    Should’ve been at least a 2-year deal.

  15. Isles had to protect themselves to make sure he is not a flash in the pan. If he does well next season then sign him to a 2/3 year deal. Wonder how well he would have done on another team without JT.

  16. avatar islz says:

Hopefully he will be the real deal and want to stay and play with the core.

  17. avatar Eric Cup says:

There’s no reason at all to believe he will be traded at the deadline. In fact, I find the whole idea to be absurd. This is a player that was picked off the scrap heap but broke out with a great first full season. 2.45 mil is a tremendous raise for a young guy and if he produces again he will get the long term deal he will then deserve.

  18. This deal is fine. Moulson is not yet part of the core. Let’s see what he does this season.

  19. avatar KK says:

Nothing terribly wrong with this deal. He won’t be going anywhere if he plays anywhere near his level last year for us. He’ll get offered more before he’d become an UFA. He wants to play with his buddy JT, and the Isles should make some appropriate improvements this season and challenge for a playoff spot. I’d like to see Moulson locked up for a few more years, but this is fine for now.

  20. avatar mm30 says:

It is indeed an absurd idea that the Islanders either trade or fail to re-sign their own pending unrestricted free agents?!?!?!

    Look at the history.

  21. avatar Brian says:

Sounds like a fair deal, he should have to prove himself again. If he has another good year I’m sure they’ll look to lock him up long term.

  22. avatar Jon says:

Nice move by the Islanders. We needed some good news.

  23. avatar Petey Pete says:

The Polish Prince also put up a 30 goal season too.

I agree with the one-year deal, if he wants to stay an Islander, he can stay an Islander. If he’s intent on testing the UFA market, then we never we would’ve never had a chance anyway.

  24. avatar Adam says:

Thank goodness, i would be shocked if he passes 25 goals again. He will be exposed next year

  25. avatar IsleFan73 says:

OK with deal. Lets move on and improve team with another FA signing or trade. I can dream if I want to.

  26. avatar AJAX says:

I agree, he will be traded by deadline, or work his butt off to get a contract with a real team after this year

  27. avatar Billy-no-not-Jaffe says:

    A good compromise signing.
A decision can be made for a longer term deal by mid-season. If he plays with the same drive as this year, he could get himself a nice package from Wang, and we get a known scorer we can count on.

  28. avatar UIF says:

Right decision…the dollars, term and decision to avoid the hearing.

  29. avatar billy says:

way too much considering he was an RFA and overaged rookie (in essence), but if he proves himself, then we have lots of money for his next contract.

    Hopefully he’s not a fluke

  30. avatar Jethro09 says:

Sounds about right. I figured that’s where the number would wind up. If he has another good season, he’ll be rewarded with a multi-year deal for good money.

  31. avatar dose says:

one year only so they can see if he can do it again, but a cool 2.5 mill to show good faith.
what do i know?, but it makes sense to me.

  32. avatar Islebethere4u says:

Should’ve locked him up for longer. hope we don’t lose him next year because he becomes unaffordable.

  33. avatar Steve from Jersey says:

Some people are never happy. Good signing helps the cap another one year to see if he can do it again. You gotta like it hope the guy can do it again and earn himself a nice contract.

  34. avatar ERIKA TENCIC says:

Would have liked a 2 or 3 yr deal. Whether or not he scores 30 goals next yr is not the question. He is a player that busts his but every game and is a big body that hovers around the net, oh yeah, he also has soft hands. So who cares, 25 goals, 30, 35? I will take what he has to offer any day of the week! You can keep the overpaid, over rated free agents, I am happy Matt is an Islander.—-I think I will have a nice cold Moulson tonight!

  35. MM will have another breakout year and we will pay dearly to retain his services in the very near future. Typical NYI BS. We always let the good guys get away!!!

  36. avatar Hock says:

I feel he is the real deal and we should have locked him up for longer. However, I understand the deal he got and why.

  37. avatar Brian G says:

Wow – that’s more than what anyone expected…I would be shocked if he scored 30 ever again….does this mean if PA Parenteu puts up 30 this year he will get 2.5 mil next year

  38. avatar The new isles gm says:

If Moulson turns into another 30 goal scorer…Snow will offer him the right contract. He made the right move giving him a one year deal. He’ll get what he’s worth on his next contract if he has a repeat performance, as any 30 goal scorer would. I’ll take Moulson before a declining overpaid Frolov any day of the week. As much as I agree the Islanders need to spend money, I would hope they put the right peices in place…next stop! Sutton Avenue. We still need a guy with his size n game back there to put fear on the blue line n clear the crease.

  39. avatar Matt says:

I love to bash the Isles but this is not a bad deal. Im not convinced the 30 goals wasn’t a fluke. Let the kid play and if he is approaching 30 again lock him up. It will be hard for him to walk from 2.5 – 3 mil over 3-4 years mid season.

  40. avatar brooklyn george says:

I like Moulson, but I think they paid him too much for a 1 year deal. Would of liked 1-1.5 million, just over double of what he made last year. To much money for a 1 year deal. If he has another 30 goal season or better, then we lost him the following year, cause then he’ll want 4-5 mil. and you know they are not giving him that.

  41. avatar pete debenedetto says:

good deal. If he has 25 goals or more by April, an extention is in order. But if we have 12 goals in that same time, Kudos to Grath. Let’s hope for the better.

  42. avatar Mike P says:

Would have liked 2 yrs, but glad they settled. The only way I see him being traded is if he has a good year of course, no one is gonna give up any value for a 15 goal scorer at the deadline. If he proves himself and is not traded, maybe the Isles lock him up for a few before july 1st. Matt seems to be happy here and I`m sure he`ll give the team that gave him a shot the chance to keep him around 1st before he talks to anyone else.

  43. avatar Kyle says:

no huge problem with the deal, wanted 2 years though.. unhappy with 1.. would’ve been extrememely unhappy with more than 1, just remarkable to watch a team that needs to spend money to hit a cap floor get worse over an offseason, lack of toughness was addressed too much, lack of scoring wasn’t even touched.

  44. avatar StevieL says:

1 year deal?? I am surprised that Moulson would sign that, unless the FA route sounds attractive to him! You know if he hangs up another 30 this year he will be testing the FA waters. Especially when we finish as a lottery team again!!Very risky on Garths part.

  45. avatar ars9x says:

Not bad. Look, Matty is great, good chem with JT and KO etc. but I understand the Isles covering their bases. If he shows up again, awesome for us all, if not, we are not locked up with a 1 yr fluke player.I’m willing to stay tuned.

  46. avatar joey bagodonuts says:

good deal. if moulson keeps up the pace through december and into january, look for garth to work hard on a mid-season long term contract extension.

  47. avatar Frankie D says:

We will pay BIG next year or lose him. Stupid to sign him for only 1 year.

  48. avatar Manhattan Mike says:

Good for Matt. He put himself in a good position. He can light it up this season. If the Isles flop and dont come anywhere near the playoffs – he will be gone because he will be unaffordable next year. I’m sure Snow would have wanted to lock him up longer – but he’s hogtied by Wang.

  49. avatar Shawn says:

The one year deal is the only thing he would sign. Its my hunch that the isles were wiling to pay him and lock him up long term but he doesn’t want to be here. Thus the one year deal.

  50. avatar cahoward28 says:

All of you that are upset with the $2.5 million, i have this question. How much did you think he’d get in arbitration? From everything I can see, 30 goal scorers get paid, this might even be less than he would’ve gotten. Stop whining. This is a guy who knows who gave him his shot and who is great friends with Tavares. If he has a great year, they’ll re-sign him and he’ll want to stay. If he doesn’t, then this is a great deal. Too much? Come on.

  51. avatar Helene says:

    Great news.

  52. avatar Chris R says:

Bad signing. They should of gave him a two year deal. Now hes going to be traded at the deadline.

  53. avatar thepolishprince says:

I don’t see a problem with this. Mutually agreeable one year contract to see if MM was a one hit wonder. If he scores 30 again lock him up or trade him at the deadline. Worst case he has a great year and prices himself off the Island.

  54. avatar mark p says:

I will bet Isles offered 3 for 5M…..(they alway try the security for discount plan) Moulson rolls the dice in Leiu of security. If Molson has 15 by the All Star break, I am sure they talk extension.
Of course Semin could be a UFA anyway!

  55. avatar Chris TMC says:

Very good news. Im sure the Isles wanted to sign him multiyear ala Hunter, but Id bet Matty thinks he is gonna be worth more and wants a year to prove it. Works out good for both sides… if he has another season like his last one, the Isles will lock him up long before FA.

  56. avatar Staten Islander says:

I guess thats fair, let him prove he wasn’t a fluke (I think he’s for real) I just worry he’ll bolt after next year. And next year, along with him, KO and Bailey will need contracts too.

  57. avatar Vlad from Brooklyn says:

MM just got married. Stayed with his good friends for another year. And received a big raise.
    I’m just happy for him.

  58. avatar Joseph Shmoe says:

There is no way I like this deal. The Isles give themselves no leverage if Moulson maintains his pace for 30 again this year. It’s highly unlikely he’d be willing to work on an extension before seasons end if he nets 30 again or is on pace to do so. He’ll be a pending UFA with some very marketable acheivements. The only hope then is that he just loves Long Island that much…and no one else in the area wants to outbid us.

  59. avatar Joseph Shmoe says:

    >>let him get to 15-20 goals by trade deadline and sign him long term<<

That is ofcourse assuming that he’s not smart enough to recognize that he’d be on pace to get a much more substantial deal elsewhere. That’s risky play.

  60. avatar CP says:

1 year deal = he will be traded at the deadling for the “rebuild”, like most of the other decent players on expiring contracts this year. Please sell the team Charles.

  61. avatar CM says:

Maybe the Isles wanted longer. Who knows. Could be that this is what MM wanted and the Isles had to settle for that. What’s the big deal. These are the pains of a rebuild.

  62. avatar Alice Cooper says:

Why does anybody here who says he got too much for a one year deal care about the money??? Are you paying him? The Islanders are ridiculously low on the salary cap scale, so what difference does it make? If he fails, then we let him go or sign him cheaper next year…this isn’t going to affect anyone else’s salary down the road. We got him for another year to see what he can do. If he repeats, hopefully they lock him up.

  63. avatar Jason P says:

My point was more that I would have liked to have seen a 2 yr deal, that’s all.

  64. 2 years makes me more comfortable too, but regardless I’m excited to see what he brings when he’s back. Every now and then I’d wonder if he was disappearing in stretches of games, but before I knew it he’d show up back on the score card. I’m a believer in MM…looking forward to another solid year.

  65. avatar jeff says:

I really don’t understand this deal. First, this is money the Isles have to spend, so the amount is almost irrelevant. Second, by giving him a one-year deal, if he scores 30 again, he will be out of the Isles budget. The Isles know this and will be forced to trade him at the deadline. Other teams know this too, and we’ll get nothing in return. Third, after seeing this, JT will clearly understand what this team is about and leave as soon as he is able. And who could really blame him? Why can’t being an Isles fan ever be easy?

  66. avatar Jcchamu says:

Wow what a difference 1 year makes. That’s all I have to say.

  67. avatar beatlebailey says:

glad it got settled before the hearing…both sides can feel better about it…Congrats MM on your life changing contract…think about what a couple mil would mean to most of us….Nicely done Mr. Moulson!

  68. avatar potvinrocks says:

Considering that Frolov just signed for 3 million, Matt Moulson is still a bargin. Very disappointed that it wasn’t a multi year deal like they did with Trent Hunter.

  69. avatar Jim Clark says:

Good deal for both the Islanders and Moulson.

  70. avatar mht says:

Some people are never ever happy. They are worried if he has a big year,he will ask for big money and that we will lose him.I hope he scores 35-40 goals and we give him the big dollars and security he craves. There is risk in everything in life.

  71. avatar JT says:

I Hope if he has another big year we can sign him before he hits the open mkt. Would have liked them to give him 2 years min…Its not like we don’t have cap space going forward.

  72. avatar islandersfan4ever says:

Matty,I have watched you from day one, and route for you whenever you are on the ice.You are the sparkplug on the line.Keep doing your thing, so management can lock up a nice long term deal for you and your new family also.we want our home to be your NEW home. For a long time. You were a helluva find.Best wishes #26! U Da Man!

  73. avatar Hotstick12 says:

Great…rangers signed Frolov!!i dont understand why we couldnt make him an offer…we suck!!

  74. avatar Quez says:

I love how everyone is either crying that we didn’t lock up MM long term, & he’ll be moved @ the deadline or that 2.45mil was too much. Let’s all remember that he is still relatively unproven. The 1yr deal is a safety in case he is a one year wonder. Now the positive…To me, it seems like a no brainer. A good kid and teammate gets a big raise for his work last season and gets a chance to prove himself again, in hopes of being part of the team’s turnaround, and a long term contract.Congats, Matt.

  75. avatar Steve M says:

To me, I think Moulson will be better than Frolov. Plus Frolov’s deal is only a 1 year so if the Isles prove that they’re better this year we could sign him next summer.

  76. avatar Hishutzi Skorz says:

No problem with the one year deal. If he sets a similar pace, Snow can offer an extension. If the $$$ is fair, he and his wife are happy here, he’s getting 1st/2nd line ice, chances are he stays.
If he becomes a one year wonder, he’s gone and a spot opens for Nino, Petrov or KK.

  77. avatar Never witnessed a Cup says:

Lets hope after this fiasco that the Isles can resign him after he has another good season. I am so pessimistic about the Isles retaining our young guys for the long haul, its sad…As soon as they get offers to play for winners and teams that can afford to place a winner on the ice why would thy want to stick around a place of nothing but uncertainty???

  78. avatar jmo16 says:

Welcome back Matty….I hope the team picks up your travel expense for draggin you to Toronto only to settle right before going into the meeting.

I wonder if they consider things like an option year with a modest raise/incentives the Isles can activate by a certain point in the season, so if he performs up to last year, they could avoid the BS & risk re-visiting this again & not coming out winners. For guys who throw the words “due dilligence” into a sentence regarding EVERY decision they make, it seems like sometimes they pass on the easy lay-up.

OR….maybe it’s just a nice day up in Toronto and they’re sneaking in a round of golf.

75 days till isles hockey begins again. Obviously, I’m jonesing…

  79. avatar Steve says:

    Why just 1 year?

  80. avatar isles71 says:

Think one year just wasn’t enough…if he proves he is a 30 goal again, you have him under contract and besides, they NEED to spend the money to hit the cap floor. He seemed like a great team player, so why not wrap him up for a few years even if he he only gets 20 or so goals it would be worth it. Remember that in the this NHL 20 goals is what used to be the 40 goal standard. He won’t sign an extension during the season, so you probably lost him anyway…doen’t make sense

  81. avatar Islander86 says:

If he scores 30+ next season, Isles have no chance to sign him.
What the hell is going on with this organization ?

  82. avatar Cary says:

I don’t think we can afford to tempt any potential solid young player into becoming a UFA.

I definitely would’ve liked to have seen a 2-3 year deal and some commitment to last year’s top goal scorer.

  83. avatar Ted says:

Why does everyone assume Moulson would want a multi-year deal now? If he scores 30 again he will be a 27 year old UFA with back to back 30 goal seasons next July ($$$). Since Moulson got a late start this will be his best shot at a big UFA deal. If he signed for say 3-to 5 years with Isles, he would hit UFA in his early 30′s. With his style of play in front of the net getting dirty goals he will take alot of bumps and abuse over that time period-certainly still marketable, but not as much as a 27 year old entering his prime.

  84. avatar JS43 says:

Management should have signed him to a 2 year deal…If he has a very productive year, the Islanders will lose the oppotunity to re-sign him…Doesn’t it seem so typical the way Garth and Wang operate…Call me crazy!

  85. avatar Alice Cooper says:

85-What if Moulson didn’t want a 2 year deal? Don’t be so quick to jump on management. We don’t know the whole story.

  86. avatar Mikilli says:

There is no good outcome here. If he scores 18 goals isles won’t resign him too much money. If he scores 26 plus… He signs with a team that’s not the pittsburgh pirates.

  87. avatar Mikey says:

Great deal for Matty. He gets decent money next year and has a chance to prove that he is a consistent 25 goal guy. The best part for him is that he is not locked into this train wreck of an organziation. He can now bolt for the door at the earliest opportunity.

  88. avatar hale78 says:

if he proves he belongs and last year wasn’t fluke they will resign him midseason…

  89. avatar Vas says:

I would have preferred a 2 year deal but whatever!

  90. avatar Peter says:

Mr. Moulson thought it was a good deal. He signed after all. Dude’s a millionaire!

  91. avatar Orange&Blue says:

Wow! 500% raise. He certainly earned it. You have to believe that Garth told him that if his numbers are similar to last years he will give him a 4 long term deal next summer. That shouldnt be a problem for Matt. Now, if Garth would go out and sign a fwd free agent who can bury the puck.

  92. avatar Ron says:

This actually makes sense. For once.

  93. avatar 4theisles says:

A one year deal will show us if he is the real deal. 20 goals plus or minus would make him very signable next year. Much less or more changes the game plan for both sides. Obviouly he will be making max effort to get into the elite 30+ in consectutive years. Hope he does and then we will that inevitable bridge to cross. By then this ftranchise will have crossed some even bigger bridges. We can all fill in our own blanks.

  94. avatar Hockey Guy in Canada says:

Wang/Snow had no choice but to pay or the arbitrator would have made them pay more. Moulson has seen how the organization treats people lately. He doesn’t seem like a Wang-type personality. Too busy with the ice packs from going to the net than to play tennis at Wangs the next day. He will gladly explore being a UFA next year.

  95. avatar hathead68 says:

    Fair deal for both sides.

  96. avatar JerseyBoy says:

A happy MM and a happy JT = GOALS. The rest of it will take care of itself.

  97. avatar Vive la Poutine! says:

Given all the circumstances I really don’t see how this is a bad deal for either side. I’m actually surprised at some of the negative comments.

  98. avatar Loudville330 says:

Honestly, not a bad offer. Think about it this way, give Matt one more year to prove he can replicate last season and then go from there. Lets go Isles!

  99. avatar islesfan999 says:

Excellent deal. If he plays as well as last year or better we sign him for 5 yrs 15 million or maybe a little more. If he regresses hes still a 3rd liner at worst. Good deal for both sides. Now lets sign a tough dmen like Morrisone or Sutton and 1 of either Afiniganov, Stempniak Macarthur

  100. avatar raul17 says:

He received a little more than Trent Hunter does now. I hope he isn’t another Jason Blake!

  101. avatar John from Atl says:

It’s easy to criticize the end result of a negotiation when you don’t know each sides position going in.
I’m surprised Moulson accepted a one year deal instead of going to Arbitration. I would think he would have gotten at least what he ended up accepting and most likely more if he went forward with the Arbitration. Maybe he just didn’t want to create any bad blood, which usually happens at arbitrations.
From all of Moulson’s public statement it sounded like he wants to stay and was looking for a long term deal and stability. I thought the Islanders would want to cover that first year of UFA elligibility but maybe didn’t to pay him for 2 years at 2.45 per just yet. Well if he has a good start I would think the Isles would try again to sign him to a longer contract come the trade deadline. If he has an off year, the Isles may sign him for less $ next July. Either way, unless he has a really bad year, I would think he’d sign again for next year.

  102. avatar Diane says:

I’m glad they worked it out before going to arbitration and thumbs up to Matt for a job well done last season.

I’ve read the comments and I can see both sides’ points. I think we are just going to have to wait and see what happens with him this season and hope for the best.

  103. avatar Warren says:

Hey fans I think he’s worth it. I hope someday he can wear the “A” sometime.
    $$$$$$$$

  104. avatar Bruce says:

A one year deal serves both sides. The amount is very fair.

The Islanders are giving the money (fair number)to recognize he did well last year and to acknowledge he is a quality player and important to the team but it also leaves the door open after this season should he be a one year wonder.

For Matt, it is right because he can try to repeat what he did and then have two very good situations: a). sign on with the Islander longer term with two years to brag about or b). test the waters and see who is giving out the money.

I think Matt has put himself in a good situation with a one year deal to sign a long term contract. Assuming he repeats next season he is in the driver seat.

I think Matt will feel he owes the Islanders first dibs on a extended contract by the end of the season because they were willing to give him his first real shot. He’ll return the favor and hear them out.

Plus, JT is on the team and it’s always fun playing with your buds.

  105. avatar GlenS says:

Good deal by both side’s IMHO, from the player side MM put’s up 25 + and he’s in the driver’s seat. From the Isles side he put up 15-20 then they have the upper hand.In the end I see (HOPE) MM sign’s a 3 to 5 year deal that all side’s can be happy with. God i hope we (ISLES) start signing trading for some player’s that will move this team forward. But the bottom line is CHARLES WANG you’ve got to spend some $$$$ to get some $$$$$.
    LETS GO ISLANDERS…..

  106. I like it.. Make him earn a long term deal with a 2nd good season…If he want’s to go…goodbye.

  107. avatar Jersey Steve says:

    I honestly don’t think he’s a one-year-wonder.

  108. avatar rob76 says:

I’m glad to see him back but i wish that they showed him some loyalty and gave him a multi year deal, even if just to show Tavares some that they are loyal being how close he is with Matty Ice

after scoring 27 by march the Islanders will trade him for a 4th round pick.

anyone who spends a penny on this team must a)make enough money they can throw it down the toilet or b)continue to drink the islander coolaid.

this organization does not care about winning.

I think this deal really makes sense and it is good and fair for both sides.

I love Matt for his character and drive but I dont see him hitting 30 again this year. I put him more in the 20-25 range. I think Matt will end up being more of a poor man’s Tomas Holmstrom which isnt too shabby. If he gets 20-25 goals next year and more than 40 pts sign him long term.

“MATT MOULSON” wasn’t just consistent, he was the the “EPITOME of CONSISTENCY”…He scored 15 goals thru the 1st half games and then 15 more in the 2nd half…He never went into a slump because he stuck to what works for most goal scorers in this league, and thats getting your nose dirty and paying the price in front of the net…I believe he shouldve gotten a couple or 3 years…I can appreciate the fact that he only did it in 1 season and its important to evaluate over a longer span but its not like he was hot and cold all season like Bergy…I, for one, doubt he will be in an Isles uniform after this season, especially if he has a great year…Isles will not sign him when he becomes a UFA…Last time the Isles had a decent season it was under Ted Nolan and most of our UFA’s left, including guys like Kozlov, and Blake among others…We ended up with the UFA left overs like Comrie and Fedetenko…The only way this team will have any chance to keep players is if they start winning but more importantly, if they have a new arena in the works…Until then, we are doomed…Sorry to be negative but Ive been positive this whole time but this latest news coming out with Jaffe and Jankowski and the LHP being shut down, I am having a hard time seeing a bright spot…If any of you guys think Im wrong all the power to you, this Isles fan has had it up to here!

That sound you hear is me scratching my head from all the way in NJ.

I really thought MM was going to get long term. My impression was that the Isles wanted something longer term (3 years), and MM wanted more money less term.

Seems like we got a lower money shorter term.

    IMO a 3 yr 3.0 / 3.25 / 3.75M would of been good for a 30 goal scorer.

Then again … That’s why I’m sitting here, and not in a GM chair.

Oh well … At least they settled on something. I’m pretty much desensitized now.

Would have liked a 2-3 yr deal. If he does well they may lose him unless Snow can get an extension done during the season, but MM may not want to give up the opp for UFA. Even if he doesn’t have the 30 goals again this year, because of the way he plays I dont think that disqualifies him to score again down the line. He plays a good game in front of the net and not a whole bunch of guys do that nowadays (certainly not on the Isles) He didnt get a ton of PP time last year and was also great for the shootouts. Not saying he is a guarantee but I would have tried for a 2-3 yr based on what I saw last season. Though maybe they tried.

This guy will pot 35-40 goals if Gordo leaves him on the top line.Yes that’s right,35-40!Now w/ that said say GOOD-BYE next season as he signs for BIG $ w/ a contender.Oh my lord, only the Isles can screw up their only good signing this offseason.Hey guys look @ it this way if they maybe overpay a little in $ and years IS THAT NOT MOTIVATION FOR THE REST OF THE SO-CALLED SCORERS ON THIS TEAM TO OVERACHIEVE!I’m not saying lock him up for 17yrs @ 10mil but c’mon 2-3yrs would’ve been nice.Hell Hunter makes 2mil a yr for 5yrs for what..20 goals maybe and a bunch of “no-impact” on game hits…GET REAL!This rebuild is never going to work until we start taking care of our own BEFORE the big name teams have a shot. For those who are hoping he likes LI,all he needs to do is sign w/ RAGS,Sabres or DEVS next yr.PS–who gave him his shot?Hope it wasn’t JANKS!!!!

u have to lock this guy up…mistake

g.m.garth ( i mean wang) knew he would lose in arbitration. so he settled for losing a litle less and also this way he can let m.m. go as a u.f.a. next year. but dont fret. g.m. wang will sign some 4 th line career scrub and say we have a high caliber quality hard worker to fit right in with his last place club.
