JANKOWSKI JOINS THE MONTREAL CANADIENS
Ex-assistant GM will scout WHL, USHL, Minnesota
10:15 am: Not surprisingly, Ryan Jankowski was able to land on his feet despite the challenge of being a scout looking for work in July. The former Islanders assistant general manager has been added to the staff of the Montreal Canadiens, for whom he will scout players in the Western Hockey League, United States Hockey League and Minnesota high schools.
“I’m extremely excited about this chance to work for a great and historic organization like the Montreal Canadiens,” said Jankowski.
The ex-amateur scouting director for the Islanders (the position no longer exists with the franchise) expressed only positive sentiments about the team that did not offer him a new contract after it expired at the end of June.
“I was very privileged to have spent eight wonderful years with the Islanders,” said Jankowski. “I’m thankful for the opportunities given to me by ownership and management.
“I’d like to thank the Islanders’ fans for their support over the years, and also my staff with New York for their commitment and dedication. I’ll always be proud of the work of our staff. Although my focus and loyalties are with the Canadiens now, I still look forward to the continued development of our Islanders prospects from the last few years.”

Good for Jankowski! The Isles loss is the Canadiens gain.

CLASS
-
huh, that didn’t take long, good for Janks
-
I’m sorry, but I am left wondering what the eff happened here?
-
Classy right to the end, our loss is the Canadiens’ gain
-
The shocking thing is that the Leafs didn’t hire him weeks ago. Congrates to him.
Did we get Kirk Muller in return? -
Very classy, very diplomatic. Should we have kept him? Probably. But either way, it’s great to see such a nice ending.
-
Great guy and will be missed. We already know his history with scouting players from the USHL and MN HS league. Happy he still wishes the prospects he scouted and drafted here succeed. I’m just sorry that he had to work for SnoWang.
-
We just have to move on. We will all miss Janks. Lets go Isles
-
Ryan will be another ex-Islander employee with a very successful career managing a different NHL franchise.
-
That didn’t take very long. Good for Janks.
-
I’m not a demanding Islander fan, but this organization owes us an explanation as to why a Scouting Director is not necessary.
It’s not even Jankowski’s departure that I’m angry about, it’s the intentional void that is left in that function.
-
CLASS ACT.
-
Janks is a class act through and through. Why do we let the best people leave.
-
this summer aside from the draft has been a disaster and really has shown how much of a joke we really are, Jankowski was terrific with us and was very young…Of coarse that means its time to push him out the door. Oh well, I’m happy he landed a job with a real organization.
-
Great pickup by the Bleu Blanc et Rouge… Sooner rather than later he’ll end up replacing Timmins as the Chief Scout for the Habs…
-
Our loss is there gain. He should have prob been our GM. Snow should have been the assistant.
-
I met Ryan at a Bruins/Islanders rookie scrimmage in Shelton CT a few years back..Class guy knows what he’s talking about. I wish him success in the future..Wang you made a big mistake letting this guy get away. He will be a GM some day..
-
CB – seems like Janks has a pretty good reputation around the league if he was hired this quickly. It appears as if he, not Garth Snow, is responsible for most of the top prospects the Isles now have. Would you agree? Do you believe the Isles’ quality of scouting will drop significantly moving forward with the elimination of Jank’s from the organization? It does not seem like Snow knows all too much about finding great prospects, as he just pretty much has gone along with whatever Janks has told him. He never offers much quality in his statements about prospects. If Snow will not be involved, will scouting be left up to Morrow and crew?
-
Ryan you will be missed. I just cant believe you were let go after the great and outstanding job you did to build the Islanders future!
-
Good Luck Janks. With Doug Weight being close with Snow/CW, I wonder if he will be taking Janks place in the near future.
-
the islanders are going to rue the day they let Ryan go
-
Best of luck, Janks. Nice to see him trading up and working where he’ll be appreciated.
-
Classy comments by him. I Wish him luck.
-
I was also thinking along the lines of #13 Petey Pete’s thoughts…..
I wish the organization (THAT WE SUPPORT) would explain some of these actions!!! I think we deserve that much. I have to assume the reasons for some of these events are not very PR-friendly, so they choose to say nothing.
Although, I suppose if they did speak and spun it to be positive, we would just see through it and call it BS.
Thanks for your years of dedication and service Janks!!!
-
Good for Janks! He secured his spot on the first lifeboat launched from the Titanic. I just fear that many of us will go down with the ship…
-
CLASSY!
-
Church is closed, boys and girls. We categorically refuse to move to Quebec.
Best of luck to a good soldier.
-
Classy guy all the way. I don’t understand the reasoning for letting him go, but this is a big hit to the scouting dept. I guess if you plan on picking top 5 for a few more years, who needs a director of scouting, just do what Bob MacKenzie says!
-
Any good news on this Team in the next 12 Months. I’m thinking not
-
There was probably a line in front of Ryan’s door with real teams waiting to hire him. I would really love to find out what happened. Chris any chance you could give us the true story of why Wang let Ryan go? Please.
-
Good for Ryan. He’s classy guy and now with serious organization…
-
Congrats Ryan! It’s a blessing in disguise that you are no longer working for this PIKER FRANCHISE!!!!
-
Classy guy that Jankowski. I was looking for some dirt.
-
Great guy. Great scout. Great eye for talent. I would love to know what happened that the Islanders could afford to let him go.
-
congrats to janks. Hope him the best. He is responsible for Bailey, tavares and Nino draft. lets see how all those picks mature. we can all thank him then.
Habs picking him up shows they liked what he as doing for us.
Isle Mgt lots to blame its staff. Laviolette and Bylsma got fired and won stanley cups.
Im sure Janowski has better days ahead of im. Especially if he will remembered by us a architect of our cup team.
-
Seems like a class guy. Too bad he’s not with the Islanders anymore.
-
Agree with most posts. I don’t care why they did not renew, but why the sudden house cleaning? I also don’t care if it is for $$ reasons, just want the Isles office to be more transparent sooner.
-
Janks will be missed. I’m reserving any judgement on the Isles for this one. We don’t know what goes down behind closed doors. Perhaps this is something Janks wanted. I wish him all the best.
-
Classy, expected nothing less. Very genuine that he’d follow the Isles prospects… congrats to him, the Habs are a lucky team.
-
Well, at least he’ll finally get to work in the NHL.
Good luck Janks.
-
janks, jaffe, trottier, am i missing anyone. Quality people all let go by the isles this year..not too good..hey at least we dont have mouse $hit at our coliseum food vendors..CB i feel a marketing slogan…”Dont worry about $hit in your food as you watch the $hit on the ice”
-
I love how the Islanders just release good employees and give no reason. Jankowski, Jaffe, and Trottier…..the Islanders continue to operate like a minor league team.
And still no impact additions made to the team.
This team has been a disapointment on the ice for many years and now they are finding new ways to disapoint the fans…
-
Still wish we had some clue what happened. Up until a few weeks ago this guy seemed a key cog in the rebuild. After the draft he’s out on his rear. Can’t make heads or tails of it.
-
Also, congrats to him. I hope he does very well. He will give me a reason to pay a little more attention to the goings on in Montreal.
-
Why did the Islanders get rid of him? Was he not positive enough?
-
I’ve supported Mr. Wang as much as I can. But at this point I think we all know this team will never amount to anything. Wang and Snow have proven they are no longer even putting on the act that they are a serious organization. They are not interested in winning and truly have no regard for their fans or the game itself. I wish that there was away the league could take over the operation of the and find a buyer. This summer has been the ultimate insult for all long-suffering fans.
-
Great to see those quotes from Jankowski. We will never know WTH happened, which is really annoying, but its nice to see things smoothed out like this. Way to take the high road, Ryan- thank you.
-
Classy guy. Good luck Janks! I really hope this doesn’t bite us in the end.
-
People wronged by the Islanders this summer:
Jankowski, Jaffe, Trottier….what reasons? Stupidity on the part of management. My god what a sick feeling I have in my stomach!
-
Congratulations Ryan. Hope this hiring doesn’t hurt the Isles.
-
I think Janks found a boat-load of talent for us. Montreal adds him to their fleet of scouts. I’m troubled because number of scouts was a concern for the Islanders BEFORE Janks left, and he was their best one. I’m worried the team won’t be able to find the same level of talent moving forward unless Snow replaces him with a scout(s) who measure up to at least the level as Ryan.
-
Party on Wang! Party on Garth!
-
Dont forget they let Darcy Regeir leave years ago. He has had a pretty good run of it. Bettman finds an owner for Tampa, who is first class. Then the get a HOF who is widely respected throughout the league. Then they hire a professional CEO and we dont bring back any of our quality people. HOF player, up and coming announcer and asst GM. Bettman find us a new owner, get us a new arena{refurbished will not do} and a respected experienced GM.
-
Classy, Ryan, very classy. I trust my Habs friends will be happy to bear the benefits of your work in the years ahead.
-
EVERYBODY BE ON WATCH…. The way we operate Janks will be the GM of a Stanley Cup winner before th Islanders win one….
-
From the outhouse to the Penthouse good for him.
Montreal Blows LI away -
Another Jimmy Devellano in the making? Eight years? Good luck to you!!
-
You could’ve talked smack about the Isles if you wanted, Ryan. We would’ve understood. But you’re probably happy to leave this circus, anyway.
-
Remember that name Isles fans he will be a future GM someplace. Who knows he might come home someday.
-
Good luck RJ!
-
LOL,this guy has class, no wonder he’s gone. Jaffe, Trottier, Janks all classy guys and all gone from the Islanders, they don’t know how lucky they really are.
-
your right a class act like janks had no buissness with this team. our new scouting director was just announced …..homer simpson’s press confrence in 2 hours
-
Congrats, Janks. Well done.
-
Good luck CUZ!!! glad your back in canada.
-
when you dont spend money and you are the pitt. pirates of hockey and you have a very small scouting staff, you make it up with a outstanding scouting director, except of course if you are wang and you want to ruin the franchise even more into the ground. dont spend money. dont have a scouting director. fire also trots. fire the announcer because he makes sense. dont put the games on radio. make the once proudest hockey franchise into a laughing stock. wang must go now!
-
This is a great move..I like it..Islander hockey under Mr Wang…its better then Cats

Congrats Ryan on landing with a first class professional hockey organization.
Showed more class in his comments, than Wang has in operating the team in the last year.
