  1. avatar a REAL hockey fan says:

.. He sounds like he knows what he has to do to be a factor in the league! Thats good!

.. Ive heard alot of ‘crazy stories’ about the kid and his agent, etc but in this interview he sounds like he will mature with time, very good move by the Isles for a 3rd round pick!

.. Eric Cairns is mentoring him, you HAVE TO LOVE THAT, keep him in line and show him the ropes big guy!! :-)

  2. avatar Jon the sniper Sim says:

Can’t wait for him to be an islander after putting on some needed weight/muscle. I love all these prospects lets hope they prosper

  3. avatar TheNewIslesGM says:

I have to say, this kids excitement, genuinely makes me smile. This kid isn’t kidding around. He knows he F’ed up the last 2 years. He’s obviously appreciative to Garth and Charles for giving him the opportunity. I think he understands now that it is completely up to him from here on out. I’m sure Eric Cairns is doing an great job grooming him. He knows first hand what it’s like to be benched and not play big mins, but he was a team player through those tough times and that’s what stood out most from Eric. I hope this rubbs off on Kabanov and his excitement translates into many points for the NYI for years to come. Here’s to the both Kirill’s.

  4. avatar John says:

From everything I’ve seen… the kid has personality… and you can’t say the same thing about a lot of the players in all of pro sports today… with their robotic answers etc etc. I think the word crazy is being changed for the word different. This kid is going to shine one day… if he can make it. And when he does were going to love his off the wall personality.

  5. avatar LES says:

nice footage cb he looks like a keeper.

  6. avatar Vlad from Brooklyn says:

The main thing is that Kirill completely understands the importance of the chance he was given. Sounds like he’s all in. And that pleases me the most. Let him develop and prove himself to all the skeptics. We will be waiting…

  7. avatar Ethan K says:

He’s outgoing and loves the sport, and wants to play in the NHL. I think in combination of a wrist injury, and too much media attention to the bad things, we got a serious steal.

  8. avatar Dan says:

vlad you have it dead on. you can see he acknowledged the fact that the isles gave him a second chance, to use his words. he knows he messed up his image and seems like he real nice person, if not, then he has a future in acting because he seems genuine. after 15-20 lbs of muscle and some grooming he could be scary good.

  9. avatar Jzimm says:

I’m not the first one to say this, but he very much reminds me of Darius Kasparaitis.

  10. avatar vann89 says:

Seems like an all around nice kid (with a lot of skill). He’s got personality, lets hope his character matches.

  11. avatar Chris TMC says:

Im with you, Dan (8)- I buy everything coming out of this kids mouth and I am absolutely thrilled that Kabanov is part of the Isles organization.

  12. avatar Never witnessed a Cup says:

Kasper was my favorite Islander in that time…I loved watching him go out of his way to hip check Lindros, lol…

  13. avatar Shremp Co 13 says:

him and jt on the ice together. nice touch to the end of that video. thats some serious talent on the ice that we haven’t seen in a few years

  14. avatar Westfall18 says:

I think Kiril is gonna be a factor in the future of this club. His enthusiasim on saturday night was second to none..I really hope he can succeed here

  15. avatar Numbers65 in Ohio says:

Can’t wait to see what he can do. Seems like a bright and fun person.

  16. avatar Irish Isle says:

Thanks for the distraction from the housing issues.

Few things that I picked up from the interview that I like:
    1. He knows he needs to add more mass to survive in the NHL. at 18, that should not be a problem.
    2. I like that he knows he needs to be a better teammate. I like that he is calling himself out on that.
    3. I like that he is staying on the Island to train. For some reason I think if he was back in Russia, there would be too many distractions.

Now Kirill, if you are reading this, put down the salad, grab a bacon cheeseburger and shake.

  17. avatar jamal says:

if this kid can produce on the ice along with his great personality off the ice, i think isles fans will love Kirill K for years to come

  18. avatar isles4life says:

he wants to get bigger and stronger!!!! he should go to gnc and pick up some nitrotech and gamma o.

  19. avatar tyler says:

since the day he was drafted all he has done is speak about how excited and happy he is to be an Islander and how he knows that he has to prove himself. I think he is trying really hard to be cooperative with his interviews and seems to be very understanding of how he is perceived and how he can change that. His future is as bright as his smile that has been on his face non-stop since his name was called. He will without a doubt be a great player and one of the biggest steals of the draft. I credit the Isles for drafting him

  20. avatar teddy s says:

met him on prospect scrimmage night. really nice..me and my friends asked him if he wanted to party tonight(we’re college aged) he laughed, said not tonight…then thought about it for a second and said maybe later and stuck his tongue out. not really sure where he gets the bad rep from

  21. avatar Barney Stinson says:

Thanks a lot for these awesome videos, Chris. I really appreciate the effort you put into it. Helps pass these hot hot hot summer days.

Can’t wait to see this kid in the big leagues with the rest of our up and coming guys.

  22. this kid is great…thanks for another awesome video.
i’m so psyched to watch him develop…still needs some time, hopefully he’s up here sooner than later. most important thing is good support and guidance, but seems like he’s being treated accordingly. best of luck to KK!!

  23. avatar gary says:

Hes a kid—Bust or boom here—Garth wont sign him for a few years until he proves himself

  24. avatar Ricardolikland says:

Most first rounders don’t turn into anything great anyway. That’s why I have a hard time asuming he will be great even if he had perfect work ethic.

  25. avatar Garths Wang says:

Hey Kirill, you wanna put on some pounds? Go to All American in Massapequa and order 2 quarter pounders with cheese and a chocolate shape…you’ll have nhl weight half way through your meal!

  26. avatar LouD says:

Posters have mentioned his (Kabanov) outgoing attitude and commented on how other players are more robotic and don’t have enough fun. That’s all well and good but to me the reason other players don’t act like that when they first come into the league is because they’re super focused about getting better and fitting in. Kirills personality makes me question his focus and determination. We will see but I’m not getting my hopes up too high. There’s a reason so many teams passed him over and it’s not just because of his father.
