love how all these guys CB interviews are loving LI. Its a great attitude to see !!
-
Hmm…I don’t have audio here, but the good thing I see is he’s over 200 pounds already and still looks like he has a ways to go to grow into his body. If his game is solid, he could be real tough to stop in a year or two.
-
2:18 into the video, you can see El Nino going up against Travis Hamonic and holding his own..Very encouraging news for Isles fans as said in Post 1, Size and Speed cant hurt!!
-
Was not unhappy when they took Nino at 5 with Gudbrandson off the board. It seems like the kid has a great attitude. I’m looking forward to seeing him and the other prospects saturday night.
-
It still shocks me how young he is. Very mature for only 17.
-
I really like this kid.
-
Please, no more bad news today to offset this nice feeling of seeing an actual very high ranked prospect WITH speed and size in our near future, and coming off the Hamonic interview, who we’re all excited for. Please, please, please.
-
Love Nino!!
Very curious if he, Travis, Calvin or the Kirills will make the opening dat Roster. Would love to still see them making a play for a top 4 Dman before opening day. If NJ wants to fir Kovy on their roster, would love to see the Isles make a play for Salvador.
Can’t wait for Saturday night
-
Big boy, size and speed, about time
-
love this kid!
-
that interview what can i say…FANTASTIC!
-
Will be a big piece of the puzzle moving forward.Love his attitude, size and speed.Hopefully Garth lets this kid develop a year or 2 at the Bridge.C’mon Garth a couple of UFA signings(offensively) to bridge the gap for a couple years.I truly believe we have some really good players on the verge of turning this thing around but they cannot be rushed. Thanks for the good news.
-
sucks im going away this weekend and going to miss the game saturday. Look foward to CB and the comments here sunday.
-
I’ll be there saturday night to see Nino and the rest of the “future” Isles. Can’t wait. Hope it will be a big turnout. If you can make it, come out!
-
Please send him back to Portland. I love the kid and am excited for what he can bring to this team, but the worst thing would be for them to rush him. He’s only 17 and no need to risk hurting his confidence if he plays with the Isles and doesn’t get off to a strong start. Let him continue to develop on a top line with fellow 1st rounder Ryan Johansen.
-
This kid is gonna be a gem.
-
Amazing at how strong the skating for the Kirill and Kirill, Travis and Nino look compared to Tavares…
-
get Nino and the Hammer in the opening Line-up. I mean unless we are about to make a FA splash, which I doubt we could probably do worse than put these guys out there and let them have at it. Both guys are at least 200 lbs so they wont get crushed so easily into the boards, and now with Zeke patrolling and Gillies in the fold still we can protect our kids.
-
First thing I noticed was his speed.
I liked the “important” question at the end. And I like Nino’s answer even more, “yeah Streit payed, but I could’ve paid”.
-
there is a roster spot that is currently open, hopefully he is not the one who takes it. He definitely could use at least one more season with the Winterhawks & at the World Juniors.
Hamonic & Petrov should be the only 2 rookies on the team next season. -
Another great interview Botts. Also, Bill Belicheck called. He wants his sweatshirt back.
-
Nice clips. He skates like the wind.
Maybe Jankowski knew what he was doing.
-
Needs to work on his english but he’s gonna be one hell of a player speed and size!
-
Both Nino and Petrov look big and strong. FINALLY!!!!
-
dont know if its the youth or the language barrier but nino and kabanov sure say “like” a lot in their interviews!
-
I thiink I have a bonafide man-crush on this kid! He will be a star in the league for years to come.
-
El Nino will be a powerful storm for us on wing!!
Only just 18, the kid is already big, can easily grow an inch or more, pack on 10-15 pounds. Wowzaa! -
Great interview CB – I must add this … I notice more and more you are getting more comfortable infront of the camera. I think we have a replacement for the guy who does the intermission and post game interviews on the road.
Nino has some good size (height and weight) … keep in mind he’s on skates, and CB is not. CB I believe said he was 5’11″ when he posted video interviews of prospects during the Finals.
I like this young squad of players … They seem very poised and confident. Nino should go to Portland … The Isles are more in need of finding a player to hit the cap floor. Most of these high ranked prospects can’t help with their entry level salaries.
-
I just hope he can finish for them
-
We have some great prospects. Thanks for all of the interviews.
-
Nino looks pretty sure of himself in the vid. Anyone know if the Coliseum box office will have tix for saturday night or we can ONLY order these online?
-
wow, what a very composed young man, speed and size to boot!
-
Seems like a great kid! As much as I’d love to see him on the Island this fall, I think one more season of Juniors would do him good.
-
I really like this kid. Hopefully his development won’t get wrecked by the circus atmosphere created by our incompetant owner. Sell the team Wang! Before it’s too late!!
-
Not gonna get too many chances to see the kid play if he’s on a nine game NHL trial run because only three of the first nine regular season games are at home.
-
Hey Chris – Doesn’t it sound like Nino and the rest of the kids love New York and how they are being treated by the Islanders? They went fluke fishing on the North Shore yesterday and tonite it’s Citi Field.
-
Ninooooooooo!
If they send this kid back to Portland I’m cruising down I-5 from Seattle to see him!
-
Ok Chris- Isn’t it about that time that a post comes with some bad/shocking/crazy news. Too much good news for today.
-
The NYI have a PR staff? What do they do? Are they the Facebook update people?
-
My heart wants all these guys to make the opening night roster. My brain says: HOLD THEM BACK A YEAR OR TWO TO DEVELOP. Then we roll.
Good work CB!
-
Seems like a nice guy.
Hope we get to see him in action soon. -
CB – Love the prospect video parade … Is it possible for you to get an interview with Calvin deHaan … I keep reading about his increased size and powerful skating stride … Like to see some video of it. I’m surprised that the Isles haven’t posted some video with Calvin.
Tavares, Bailey, Nelson, Petrov, Karbanov, Neiderreiter, deHaan, Harmonic, MacDonald, Comeau, Nielsen, Martin, DeHart, Rakhshani, Donovan, Joensuu, Kessel and Katic … make for enormous depth of varying skill sets for a strong young nucleus… and that’s the ones I can think of off the top of my head… Goaltending seems to be coming together too.
-
It might be too early for this but… what is the % chance nino stays with the big club even though he’s only 17.
Hey CB – How about a “% chance he stays with the club” post for the young guys like the russians, nino, travis, etc.
-
I was wondering the same thing #39. More like editors not PR people.
Go Nino Go!
-
Chris-
You didn’t say “What up El Nino?!” ~:o)
-
Nino is 6’2″.
-
Nino looks big, good and fast. Hang on everyone the next few years should be fun. Cb you mentioned the PR guy that might be his kiss of death. If he has time to do video with you his job can be done by Garth.
-
If they would just add some real D-men, I would be fine rolling with the youngsters up front.
Nino seems like a wonderful person. Most of the young Isles do.
I wonder if Weight hasn’t signed his contract yet because he is going to be the new Player Development guy?
Also, FYI to Snow and Wang, if you want to sign FA’s make sure your coach isn’t in the last year of his deal. No one wants to have to worry about who will be coaching them after they sign.
-
I see Nino listed at 5’11″ – 6’2″. Looking at the video of him in skates next to CB in shoes, he looks more like 5’11″ to me. CB, how tall are you?
-
Nino is listed at 6-1 1/4 by the NHL (measured at the combine). He’s 2 months short of his 18th birthday.
-
He’ll really be something when he fills out. I hope he goes back to Portland and starts the filling out process. For anyone toward the younger end of the draft class it’s best to stay cautious and not rush them. You won’t make a player’s career at 18, but you sure can ruin it.
