FLYERS 3, ISLANDERS 1; FLAMES 3, ISLANDERS 2
Talk about the Philly and Saskatoon losses here

by Chris Botta on September 29th, 2010 at 5:46 pm

9:25 pm: In Philadelphia, the B squad acquits itself well after the Flyers took a 3-0 lead after one. Krys Kolanos scored for the Islanders. Dwayne Roloson played the entire game and made 33 saves. NYI took 33 shots on Sergei Bobrovsky. Travis Hamonic (draw with Daniel Carcillo) and Jesse Joensuu (loss to Braydon Coburn) engaged in fights.

11:25 pm: As in Philly, the Islanders got behind 3-0 before coming to life. Calvin de Haan and Trevor Gillies scored the goals. Rick DiPietro allowed three goals over two periods, including one on a giveaway, and Mikko Koskinen played the third. The game is tape-delayed on NHL Network at 4:00 am and later on Thursday.

The Islanders are off on Thursday, but Point Blank will have posts.

Anyone find a live stream let us know.

  2. avatar Big Dally Cool says:

In Canada the Calgary game is on the NHL Centre Ice Package…9:00….can’t wait to watch the boys…El Nino is going to rip it up.

  3. avatar TM says:

I see Flyers radio and Flames radio. Where’s Islanders radio? Oh right, NYI PR has no clue.

Hey Chris, there was a blurb in the NY Post recently that NYI still has no radio deal. But I thought I saw you tweet that there might be 1 by opening night. Can you shed some light on this?

  4. avatar admin says:

Not much more than the tweet, TM. I’ve been told the Islanders will have a radio deal, maybe even an improved one, in place by the season opener…CB

  5. avatar TM says:

Thanks Chris. It would be long overdue. Maybe they finally listened to all the fans complaints about radio for once. (That is if the radio deal is on a strong AM station and not a weak “network” like now).

  6. avatar AJAX says:

I’m predicting 5-1 loss. Which game? Pick one.

  7. avatar uncle jr says:

Hey CB thanx for doing this again this season, we in Islander country appreciate all that u do for us. Here’s to a succesful and healthy (er!) 2010-11.

  8. avatar AJAX says:

Didn’t they stream a few preseason games from the website last year via IslesTV?

  9. avatar Jim M says:

Hoping to see some big efforts from Nino, Ullstrom, Martin, Rhakshani, Hamonic, Gervais and Joensuu tonight. Probably two forward spots and a D spot available go get em’ boys.

  10. avatar Jim says:

How come I feel like a minor league team?

  11. avatar admin says:

    (5) Can’t guarantee much, TM. Just that they were working on a better situation…CB

  12. avatar admin says:

    (7) Thanks so much for saying that, Uncle JR. I should have some good news regarding the blog (and yes, for me) by Monday. Stay tuned…CB

  13. avatar Alex says:

i wonder if the isles in canada r listening to the game right now!

  14. avatar Nick says:

CB– Do you think the Isles, now that we lost Okposo for some time, will make a top 6 forward signing wether it’s via trade or free agency?

    Thanks

  15. avatar Scott says:

I found the isles on justin tv. the stream is not great quality but its better than nothing.

    http://www.justin.tv/d/sasgorgon#/w/427721632

  16. avatar Jim M says:

Hey CB how does the team seem to be taking the Streit and Okposo injuries? Bad body language around the coliseum or the team is ready to step it up to compensate the losses?

  17. avatar Jim Clark says:

Are the Flyers and Flames charging full price for these games like the Islanders are for their exhibition game October 2nd?

  18. avatar admin says:

JVR goal. Flyers 1, NYI Tryouts 0.

  19. avatar James says:

Isles game was supposed to be on NHL network and its not

  20. avatar admin says:

We established that a long time ago, James.

Flyers 2, Tryouts 0. Carter with the 2nd goal.

  21. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

FINALLY. It’s been too long of a summer without hockey. The justin.tv link above works. Thanks to those who posted. CB, I look forward to another fun IPB season. LGI!

  22. avatar WM says:

“Dylan Reese handled that puck like a hand grenade…”, according to the Flyers broadcasters. “Flyers are doing whatever they want right now…”

  23. avatar JD says:

Thanks for the link Scott #16.

  24. avatar el nino says:

any chance that we make a real effort to sign/trade a scoring forward before the season starts? maybe a trade from a team in cap trouble? that’s what this team really needs.

  25. avatar ken says:

the justin tv link works great. thanks!

  26. avatar AJAX says:

ok, 10-1???? In the Philly game.

  27. avatar 7thWoman says:

what the heck is with the case of tastycakes???? stop it.

  28. avatar Derek A says:

Hey CB you the man, new follower and love the blog! Could you comment on Jim M’s post (#17), I’m as downhearted as anyone as my two favorite players have gone down earlier than early but I’m still optimistic about some younger players stepping up and a possible playoff berth. Lets hold our heads high Islander fans! Thanks again!

  29. avatar PPUGS says:

Anyone have the link for the radio broadcast?

  30. Anyone know how the “A” team is making out in Saskatoon?

  31. avatar admin says:

3-0 Flyers, end of the first…CB

  32. avatar admin says:

    (17) Nobody’s moping. Moulson looked a little shook up on Monday. Otherwise, they’re moving on. More jobs open…CB

  33. avatar Derek A says:

Saskatoon at 9 pm eastern five4fightin

  34. avatar ken says:

yeah the tasty cakes thing is very lame.. i dont even get it.

  35. avatar Brett says:

Philly Spanking the kids. 3-0 after first period.

  36. Thanks…….thought I had the place to myself for a minute!

  37. avatar Dan says:

    Does that link still work?

  38. avatar Islesphan25 says:

Yes…you may have to refresh it if it ask for a password…..

  39. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

Just looking at the Isles lineup in Philly tells you that the score of this game means nothing. Just don’t get hurt.

  40. avatar Alex says:

Pretty funny pulling up an NHL scores page on any sporting website and seeing two NY Islanders game in the same night…It’s an Islanders eclipse.

  41. avatar 7thWoman says:

I had to switch to the radio feed. The TV feed was very cranky and wanted TMI. radio works.

  42. avatar Dan says:

    what is the password?

  43. avatar bob says:

    passcode?

  44. avatar Vinny fortunato says:

has anyone been listening to the radio broadcast? they have been bashing the isles. i dont even think they know it was a spilt squad game. the color commentator keepson laughing and saying how bad they are. he even said this team is horrible

  45. avatar ken says:

Hamonic trying to make the team, throws down w/ carcillo.

  46. avatar Madchef says:

Hamonic Carcillo dance no real punches thrown hamonic falls on top. CB with the 2 huge injuries can we be optimistic at all that this team can compete and do rushing any of our young prospects mean that they can overachieve

  47. avatar ed says:

How did Hamonic handle himself? Kid is impressive. Great draft pick imo

  48. avatar ed says:

There are enough teams in cap trouble for the Islanders to be able to at least attempt to fill the injury holes. Wang said money wasn’t an issue. We will know shortly. If nothing done, Wang is full of it

  49. avatar MH says:

Can you clear some things up for me?

    1) Does the NHL determine the pre-season schedule?

    2) Why did the Isles start pre-season games so late?

    3) Are the Isles the only team that have split squad games?

    4) With so few pre-season games, and if they are going to split squad, how can anyone expect any team not to do exactly what the Isles did (i.e. bring in journeymen to fill the requirement and keep the majority of their 2010 team together for chemistry’s sake)?

    5) Why would the Isles make their A team and coach travel all the way to Saskatoon and keep their B team a bus ride away?

  50. avatar Matt S says:

Why did the islanders get hosed with this years preseason schedule? 3 games, at most, for any one player? This is already the Flyers 6th game and they have 2 more.

  51. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

They were supposed to be in China so they lost out on having more preseason games. I am sure all the preseason schedules were set when the trip was canceled so adding games wasn’t an option.

  52. avatar sheppy says:

The reason the Islanders started their preseason games so late is because of the aborted China training camp trip. Translation = the team did it to itself. No blame to the NHL.

  53. avatar sheppy says:

Sorry, Joe, you responded as I was typing.

  54. avatar NYINetherlands says:

Gordon explicitly said he didn’t want a lot of pre season games. He’d rather have more days to hold the training camp.

  55. avatar bob says:

its gonna be weird watching two islanders teams plan different games at the same time…

  56. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

No worries Sheppy. I am fine with the minimal schedule but I am still bummed out about the injuries. I wonder how I would feel if both KO and Streit had gotten injured in a preseason game? My guess is that most of us would be saying that they are playing too many and would be calling for less.

  57. avatar Matt S says:

Oooof. They just brought up Yashin’s contract.

  58. avatar Derek A says:

I think Snow is fully in charge of the GM situation. He has a really big check book but isn’t going to be like the Mets and pick up burnt out players for big salaries, he is playing the Tampa Bay game of building from within. I really don’t see us making a big pickup this season, and I don’t think we can blame Wang for it.

  59. avatar Brian from Massapequa says:

Will be at the Islanders-Canadiens game in Quebec in Saturday. Bought the tickets months ago and was bummed when it turned into a split squad game. I assume I’ll see the B squad there since they are at NVMC the same night. Will be a fun trip either way though.

The Flyers radio announcers were mocking the whole organization it seemed, not just the team on the ice.

  60. avatar matt says:

is there a site to watch and live stream the calgary matchup?

  61. avatar Ari says:

    Hey Chris,

Great job with the blog as always. Hope the injury bug leaves the Isles alone from here on out. As an aside, do you know if Mathieu Schnedier has officially retired? I don’t think the Isles would have any interest with his age, though he did usually play the Streit role as an offensive defenseman and I remember reading that he and Garth Snow were pretty close.

  62. avatar andy says:

does anyone have a feed for the calgary game

  63. avatar Ian says:

I live in Philly so I’ve been lucky enough to have the TV comcast feed …. Kolanos just made a sweet move cutting to the net on that goal

  64. avatar bossjones15 says:

Gillies needs to show Joensuu how to fight.

  65. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

Give this a try for the NYI/Flames game. Not sure if it will work but it is worth a shot.

    http://www.justin.tv/d/kjnsyu5#/w/427725344/2

  66. avatar jon says:

anybody have a link that works for a live stream to the flames/isles game?

  67. avatar robert says:

i am sick and tired of not being able to listen to the isles on radio because wang is too cheap to put them on a real nyc radio station. how come the nj devils are on the strongest nyc radio station ( the fan) and not some tiny nj station that cant be heard? why? its called class.its something the isles will never have until wang sells the team to someone who cares. call and write the isles telling them you want them on a real nyc radio station so everybody can hear them.

  68. avatar Obs says:

    No Good Joe. Thx tho.

  69. avatar James says:

Not saying anything we’re not all thinking, but it’s pathetic that we all have to scrub around on bootleg sites looking for a game broadcast, while the NYR have every game broadcast in HD. No radio deal. Cut Jaffe loose. 1/4 games on MSG+2 (beyond low def). Freaking amateur hour, and we all suffer for it.

  70. avatar derek says:

    Hey CB,

Did you catch HockeyNight Live the other night when Kenny D said that the Isles need to be confident in themselves and look at themselves as a playoff team rather than a rebuilding team. Can you say which attitude you see from the players, especially after this week?

  71. avatar Mke R says:

Is everyone else having difficulty with the calgary radio stream?

  72. avatar Railbait says:

    http://www.fan960.com/listen/
is working for me. I had to install a plugin and restart the browser.

  73. avatar NYINetherlands says:

    Brett #74,

    That’s an old picture. It’s still 0-0. Isles just completed a 5-3 PK…

  74. avatar DUKE KNIGHT says:

thats a game from last year Brett, when Okposo got clipped by Phenoff..sorry for the spelling.

  75. avatar Railbait says:

0-0 with a few minutes left in the first.

  76. avatar bossjones15 says:

The Flames radio guys are soooo much better than those Philly ones.

  77. avatar 7thWoman says:

Bossjones15 um, agreed. Even when they studder a little, they are still better.

  78. avatar Mke R says:

HOW ARE YOU GUYS/GALS GETTING THE CALGARY RADIO FEED? I CANT GET IT?

  79. avatar Brett says:

    HAH! My bad fellas

  80. avatar Mke R says:

THE FEED DOESN’T WORK FOR ME….I CAN’T LOAD ANY PLUG INS……ARRRRGH

  81. avatar Brett says:

Tim Jackman sounds unhappy in Calgary

  82. avatar Mark says:

No he sounds very happy, he has just taken too many blows to the head.

  83. avatar Isles Fan in Toronto says:

Isles/Calgary game live on CenterIce in Canada.

  84. avatar Shremp Co 13 says:

just got back from the philly game. Kolanos is gonna make this team as a wingman i know it, his goal showed pure skill. Fig he’ll play third line with Moulson and Shremp

  85. avatar Cyclones15 says:

  86. avatar Gaters says:

Tim Jackman is thrilled to be in Calgary.

  87. avatar cm2747 says:

de haan with a pp goal in calgary-2-1 cal.

  88. avatar cm2747 says:

    3-1 cal.-sorry

  89. avatar Jim says:

“AND JAFFRAY KNOCKS HALEY DOWN!”- Rob Kerr

Words of wisdom from one of the worst commentators in hockey.

  90. avatar Gaters says:

Are there box score stats for the games tonight showing play by play, ice time, shots, etc……..?

  91. avatar andy says:

3-2 gave the goal to gillies

  92. avatar Timp says:

    Gillies scores.

  93. avatar Staten Islander says:

    LOVE those 2 words..”Gillies Scores”

  94. avatar Mark in Ottawa says:

Chris – any chance we can get a draft preview ?

  95. avatar stu oppenheimer says:

Dipietro is in mid season form…he gave away a goal by trying to fire a pass up the middle…oops; it was intercpted and put into the empty net. way to go, Rick. Brain dead, isn’t he?

  96. avatar Derek A says:

Alright alright the rust is coming off…

  97. avatar adam m says:

its only per-season i’m not gonna go nuts at 0-2 once they have a full A-squad they should pick it up

  98. avatar dewey says:

They actually played pretty good vs the flames. Dp’s give away was off of Dehaan’s face into the net, he has to stop playing the puck so much. Konopka is gonna be a solid 4th line, energy, pk’er for the team. The defence will be a lot better than last year, wiz will be loved, eaton underrated, and dehaan will be a stud in the near future. I would love seeing him get the 9 game try out to start the season, hes a great skater. I also think the young forwards should get more time at a lower level to develop, even nino, just doesn’t look ready yet. Its gonna be a fun season to watch, can’t wait for it to start. Also, keep up the great work Chris, both here and at fanhouse.

  99. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

A 50/50 shot to pull out one win tonight… and drew 2 losses.

Starting to think this is the Charlie Brown franchise of the NHL.

I’d actually like to see what a full team would do against another full team.

  100. avatar Ryan says:

So unless my NHL network went out, they blacked out the Islanders game…really??? It’s pre-season and they black out the game…I get home from work and look forward to this while trying to fall asleep and its blacked out…awesome

  101. avatar UIF says:

No big deal with the losses. It’s the first action they’ve seen while the teams they played are entering their final kick before the season starts.

  102. avatar bossy22 says:

I watched the NYI/CGy game and in all honesty, 2 players stood out. Rob Shremp and Andy MacDonald. Both looked very good. Players of interest…Nino looked a bit out of place, but it’s his first game….i’ll cut him some slack :)

  103. avatar The New Isles GM says:

I’ll take two pre-season losses over no injuries last night.

These games arent about winning or losing, it’s about fine tuning your game and catching your breath again. These guys were in BBQ n Golf mode since May….it’s going to take acouple of more skates to get going again. Remember…it’s an 82 game season!

  104. avatar Bob Bassen says:

DP giveaway for a goal. Ugh.
Ahhh, yes. DP is indeed healthy and back.
    Go Isles!

  105. avatar dose says:

sorry if this was answered already, but can someone tell me the logic of split squads in pre-season games? i guess it lets them look at more guys in game situations, but it’s not condusive to forming cohesivess etc. in baseball for instance, it doesn’t matter. but in hockey???

  106. avatar Isles81 says:

The kids lost 2 to the Bruins kids and now 2 losses last night. 0-4, as Bill Parcells says – “you are what your record says you are”. A lot of work has to be done.

  107. avatar derek says:

I taped the game at 4am and looks like I was blacked out as well. WTF. I was afraid of that happening, the Devs were blacked out the other night.

  108. avatar Spartiarti RVC says:

curious to hear how our top players did. I read a bunch of articles so far today. None mentioned performance of Tavares, JB, Comeau, Schremp and Moulson.

  109. avatar jakebrake says:

Dose(#108), there are 40 some odd players in camp and since the China trip was cancelled the Isles have a condensed preseason schedule. The only way to get a good look at what you’ve got is to have the play competitive games against other teams. Don’t worry about “forming Cohesivness” last night, a this point they are still trying to weed out who stays and who goes based on how they play. Soon you will see a bunch of players sent back to their respective leagues, or cut, or waived and THEN you can start looking at chemistry.

Besides, even with the injuries there are only so many spots available.

  110. avatar jakebrake says:

Isles81(#109), their record says 0-0-0. So does every other NHL teams records, this is preseason guy.

  111. avatar Todd says:

With the 1st pick in the 2011 NHL draft, the New York Islanders select……………
    Defenceman Adam Larrson !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  112. avatar JP91 says:

    @ Ryan (#103) – Ditto. That sucked.

  113. avatar orngfan says:

i can’t believe the isles-flames game was blacked out on the NHL network in nyc.. who is to blame for this CB? dolan?? brutal! msg+ wont show our preseason games so nhl network can’t either? i’m so sick of this its time we switched to sny

  114. avatar burntx says:

Does anyone know why the replay of the isles-flames game is blacked out!? I was looking foward to watching it this morning only to find a black screen.
