I’ll be sporting my #27 M&M Sound Tigers jersey this Saturday for sure.
-
MONSTER!
-
When do the Matt Martin jerseys go on sale? The fans are going to LOVE this guy. If he doesn’t start the season here, he’ll no doubt will be the 1st forward called up when there’s an injury.
-
I love this guy. So many options to put on the new white jersey who to choose
-
this guy won’t have to be score a ton to make a major impact, and i don’t refer just to fighting. that said, he does have the power, ability and mindset to put in a bunch of goals. he’s a foundation player for years to come.
-
give that man a 15 year contract
-
Martin not only has the physical presence, but he will surprise many with his skill level. Really good hockey sense from what I’ve seen. He is a majoe piece of the puzzle. Looking forward to seeing him play this year.
Moulson – Tavares – Martin.

wow guys relax….overhype much? he might be a decent player in the end but a 3rd liner MAX
-
The few games he played last year really, really impressed me. He is the real deal and we need him out there with KO and JT. Looking back, Im actually glad we sent him back across the sound last season in order to play some games and stay enthusiastic…
-
how do u know he will be a 3rd liner are u a fortune teller
-
oh my god-been waiting for that interview-love that kid…he has a ton of heart..he NEEDS to be on this team..was pissed when he was sent back down last year..hope he is here to stay
-
The kid has an infectious smile, and as he said…..BRING IT ON!!!
-
LOVE HIM and keep the youth coming and start to weed out some of the vets that do the same thing as the young guns, aka trent hunter martin can do we hunter can do now and he has a upside to him trent has hit his mark, as disappointing as it sounds.
-
if we going to be playoff team, Matt martin is not ready for first line mins. Have to dominate AHL before you make the NHL.
If he makes team he makes it on 3rd or 4th line.He also has to lose the Visor if he going to be a fighter.
-
Nice Drafting! A low maintenance, high output kid. Everytime he opens his mouth “team” comes to mind. Matt is the type that pulls the wagon not rides. I can see why he captain’d the Sarnia club.Someone said “infectious smile” Bingo! I am sure his game will be infectious also.
-
He may turn ot to be “only” a 3rd line winger, or could be a complimentary winger on a higher line.
But quality 3rd liners instead of fringe 4th line/AHL players elevates the line and the whole lineup.
Think Kris Draper and Kirk Maltby in Detroit. They have filled important roles, they were not just filler. -
Hopefully they start him out slow on the 4th line 10 min a game, then down the road maybe get some PP time…no need to rush him into a big role
-
Hoping in time he becomes the Isles’ Dustin Byfuglien in terms of offensive output and size/semi-enforcer guy. I think he maxes out at 15 goals at best, but if he can take a regular shift down the road and skate with/protect the speed guys, he is a nice ingredient.
-
Lets take a breath when it come to what “line” he should be on. In todays game there is much bluring between what makes up a teams 1-4 “lines”. MM could very well be peciled in as a 4th liner but that has no bearing on where he plays during the games as much as the situation of the game does.
-
He’s going to get power play time and hit everyone. What’s not to love. I agree with Hock8 above.
-
If he doesn’t make the big club he’ll be the reason I catch a couple of BST games this season. I can see this kid becoming a real good third liner with second line potential.
-
Tough not to root for this kid.
-
“Only” a third liner, on a team where the head coach rolls out 4 lines much more evenly then a lot of teams do. There are plenty of teams with near useless fourth lines, and they rely on the top 2 lines to play 23+ minute games. In modern hockey, the 3rd and 4th lines have specific roles, they’re not just less effective scorers. If he hits his potential in the NHL and gives us 15 goals and 30+ points a season and hits, forechecks and fights, then we’re that much closer to being a contender. Perfect example is a guy like Dustin Byfuglien.

Very excited for Mr. Martin. Im a big fan of the young man.
He is fearless and motivated-
I hope he proves he belongs on the big club this year!!
Look at that neck!!!!!

He’s going to make the team 100%. I can’t wait to meet him at adventureland.
