Streit: “Surgery went very well”…3 cuts to AHL
12:25 pm: Mark Streit tells Swiss newspaper Blick, “The surgery went well” and he hopes to travel to Switzerland for a few weeks during his rehabilitation. The Islanders have sent defensemen Anton Klementyev and Dustin Kohn and Smithtown forward Tony Romano to Bridgeport of the American Hockey League. Dean Chynoweth and Jack Capuano will coach the squad playing the Canadiens in Quebec City. The Islanders have a flight out of Farmingdale at 1:00 pm. Scott Gordon and Scott Allen will run the mostly-A team facing the Devils tonight at the Coliseum. Gordon said Trent Hunter, now playing at the Coliseum tonight, was switched with Nino Niederreiter, now playing at Le Colisee, because he wanted to give Hunter more looks with the regulars. More below. Comments welcomed. I’ll see some of you at the Coliseum tonight.

Streit: “Surgery went very well”…3 cuts to AHL

CB – Please share your thoughts on how the goalies have looked in one of your next posts. Perhaps rank them based on who looks sharp/solid.
-
Hope a spedy recovery for KO and Streit. I am sorry but I cant take any stock in these preseason games as to how the team will be once the play for real. It doesnt matter in Baseball, or Football so why would it in hockey. I will say that I hope the Offense can improve from last years totals, and It looks as if the D will be better and maybe able to defend our late game leads a lil better.
-
CB, Sound Tigers.com is reporting Kohn is on waivers?? Is this true??
-
Kohn has to pass through waivers to be assigned to the Bridge. He is out of options.
-
Don’t like moving Nino to the B-team. With KO out he will almost certainly be getting a nine game tryout (at the least). I would have liked to see him playing with the regulars tonight. Chemistry will be what helps salvage the early part of this season, and every game helps.
-
Is the game tonight at the Coliseum televised ?
-
Just out of curiosity, Do the Islanders feel Hunter is off to a slow start this offseason? Im a season ticket holder for the past couple years and I must say if there is one player out there that seems to decline each year it is Trent Hunter. I understand that our RW situation is tight but he is one player I wouldnt mind seeing traded. I believe you can get a decent return with his nice contract.
-
Hunter probably wouldn’t be claimed if waived never mind traded.
-
anyone know where to see some video of gillies fight last night? heard he through that kid a beaten..
-
Hunter still have best slap shot on this team other than streit. I just feel like he too overweight. he should do the freddie meyer diet that comeau did. Might help him.
im going tonight. cant wait to see how the boys look.
-
Successful surgery the day after basically means he didn’t die on the operating table. (Think about it did you ever hear of unsuccessful surgery the day after?) So don’t get your hopes up for a quicker return. Unless the Isles are in a playoff run he’s out for the season. Hate to be too negative but being realistic.
-
Hunter has a really deceptive shot besides that he doesn’t bring much to the table, if he didn’t have a ridiculous contract I doubt he would be here. However, they resigned Sim so who knows.
-
Or successful surgery means that once opened up, Streit’s injury was as diagnosed. Meaning there was no other damage which also needed to be repaired. Get well soon Mark, you will be missed !!
-
Anyone aware of any television/internet coverage?
-
boys online i found a online stream if its not on tv. atdhe.net click to live sports and it gives you both games for tonight. I’m not sure they quality.
-
Any idea which game Kiril Petrov to play in tonight or is Ed Westfall wearing 18 tonite??? Go Islanders
-
#12 agreed
-
11 – if you think Hunter is overweight you’ve obviously never met him in person, especially out of uniform. You’d want to feed him a sandwich.
Looking fwd to the game!!
-
atdhe.net nothing yet….
-
atdhe.net has a great feed for the canadians game, but nothing for the devils game…
-
Nino just scored vs. montreal. Fed from Sim (wearing an A). Nino does not look out of place out there.
-
I am getting it in French
-
2-1 Montreal 6:00 left in the first period.
They say you don’t win games on paper……but this Isles team looks horrible on paper and on video. Who’s the #1 prospect for the 2011 Draft?
-
Actually the game showing there is the “B” game in Montreal.
-
The “A” game is 1-1 late in the first.
-
Now 3-1 Montreal in Game “B”…playing in Quebec.
-
thanks for the internet site-unfortunatley i dont understand french-but i will still watch…have we won a preseason game yet?
-
god forbid they put one of these games on tv..we are playing the devils..at lest msg +
-
anyone seen video of gillies fight from last night? cant find anywhere
-
Gervais was horrible last night.. the Devils scored their 4th and winning goal on dreadful Gervais give-away.. He is def Bridgeport bound.. Both Hamonic and DeHaan are tons better..
Schremp was the best Isles last night.. followed by Jeanseu (sp?)
-
Bailey scored on a feed from Weight, still 1-1
-
2-1 Comeau scores!
-
Nino down.. HURT.. leg.. I am DONE..
-
Nino hurt on a knee on knee hit and limps off of the ice
-
Nino hurt in QC. Looks like a knee. I’m not holding my breath….
-
I think el nino just got hurt. looks like a knee. went to locker room
-
2-1 at 2nd Intermission. Comeau from JT and Hunter.
-
Nino out with a knee to knee in the 2nd period by Cammalieri. Looks serious. Add another one to the list.
Isles thoroughly out played, as they have been all pre-season.
-
“B” Game 4-1 late in the second.
-
Not knee on knee but a slash to the ankle
-
looks like he was slashed twice. nasty
-
slash to the skate on nino by mike camilierri (sp). didn’t look pretty but at least it isnt a knee…
-
Nino might be ok. A slash, not a knee to knee.
-
just saw replay.. does not look serious.. looks like a bruise.. he should be back.. if not Camelleri should be suspended for a two handed chop..
-
5min penalty
-
Camalleri just messed up ninos leg with a slash…skated off on one leg
-
Looks like some work by Yablonsky might be needed. Dirty play by Cammelleri
-
“Nino out with a knee to knee in the 2nd period by Cammalieri. Looks serious. Add another one to the list.”
Shame. I was hoping he’d make the team this season.
-
WOW.. I LOVE HAMONIC.. he can SKATE.. he just needs a little more confidence.. He will be great in this league in both ends of the ice..
-
2-1 at the 2nd intermission. Both teams have been a bit sloppy. Rick looks pretty mobile in net. Frans skated off with slash to head. Hopefully just a cut to the forehead.
-
Cammalieri should be suspended. Looks like first slash was close to his face and the 2nd one took him down.
-
anyone know how the attendance is tonight at our old barn?
-
scott- your right first shot was a poke to the face with his stick then he kept going at nino thn slashed his ankle.
-
JD, NYIslanders twitter announces 7,783 for tonights game.
-
This should be ‘old time hockey’ (see yablonski) in the third.
-
thanks Jim
-
Betcha snow wishes nino was left alone to play in jersey…cannot be a happy camper right now.
-
Looked like camalleri got him on the heel…and the twerp scored…cb how’s your french? Any update?
-
Looking around me I see about 5,000 fannies in seats. A lot of season tix holders aren’t here, but they count as paid attendance.
-
Spacek turtles from a yablonski attack…haley starts it…
-
Yabo 1 punch KO
-
The Isles Habs game is about to get ugly..
-
Anybody with a coliseum update?
-
Hey we won! 2-1
-
3 stars #1 Comeau #2 Rick #3 Bailey
-
I hope nino is ok ..but that seals it…he’s not savvy or strong enough yet to stay…even for nine games,,and koskinen continues to be very unimpressive
-
What do you mean about to….Habs are killing the Isles. Koskinen is the only one playing good. Maybe Dibenedetto too but, it’s pretty painful.
-
Please for the love of god trade Gervais…
-
Joensuu saves his best shift with 1 20 left in the third and cuts the lead to 5. Good effort severe lack of talent out there. Koskinen is a big sieve. Krys kolanos is the laziest backchecker I have ever seen and jon sim…..is still jon sim!
-
Christopher W.. you have to see the turnover Gervais made last night.. was the winning Devils goal.. he is a ZERO.. needs to go.. too many better players.. From Reese to Hamonic.. all better..
Nice guy though..

that’s in fact is very good news. but why we know about this from the Swiss newspaper and not from the Islanders organization. they must keep their fans informed about health progress of their best player. we didn’t even know that he had a surgery already.
