FLYERS 6 ISLANDERS 1
NYI’s worst performance of the early season

by Chris Botta on October 30th, 2010 at 6:40 pm

FanHouse: Konopka – Carcillo marathon brawl

Other than Frans Nielsen (penalty shot goal after out-working the Flyers, shorthanded 3-on-5) and Zenon Konopka (two fights with Daniel Carcillo), no one else on the Islanders can say they were better than their counterparts on Philadelphia tonight. This hasn’t been a great matchup for the Islanders for years. Fail to show up from the opening faceoff through most of two periods, allow a soft second goal, not get enough bodies in front of BOB…recipe for a disastrous night. At least the fury at the end makes for a must-see game Saturday, when the Islanders host the Flyers. For now, the Snow-Gordon era has yet to produce a single victory in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and New Jersey.

  1. avatar admin says:

Good evening. The Islanders look to end their three-game losing streak and long losing streak in Philadelphia.

  2. avatar admin says:

Trevor Gillies is back at forward. Bruno Gervais is back on D for Milan Jurcina (hamstring injury).

  3. avatar admin says:

Rick DiPietro – with his pink pads – starts in goal.

  4. avatar admin says:

If you have any questions you’d like me to try and address tonight, please write ‘em up. One question per post, please, to make it easier for me. Thanks.

  5. avatar admin says:

Finally, please introduce yourself with your name and something you want to say about the Islanders.

  6. avatar Rich M says:

    CB….

I haven’t posted in awhile but i am sure you remember me. I am the big Bailey fan. I always thought he would Adam Oates lite(2 years ago)..and a definite top six forward. Can you now address the question if the Isles moving down to take him was a good one? If not I will remain silent until you do. I just want your perspective.

  7. avatar NickyL says:

Nick. I hope the Islanders lock up JT, KO and JB so they never ever hit free agency.

  8. avatar Scott says:

    Hi Chris,

Great Job as usual. Why once again we are put on an overflow channel with no HD? Can you investigate this? I can turn to MSG varsity and watch HS sports in HD 24 hrs a day but cannot watch the isles in HD. Thanks and go Islanders.

  9. avatar Bmac says:

Now that the Isles aren’t going 82-0…let’s be honest if they don’t get a 7th or 8th seed …which is really likley considering they lose leads in the third period…when does the Grill Gordon watch begin?

  10. avatar admin says:

    (6) Rich: Don’t you think you want to wait a while before declaring unilaterally the Islanders made the perfect move and before dropping Adam Oates’ name? Josh has been pretty good, but it’s a little early to say it was the right move. You also might want to wait until the players they drafted with the extra picks play a season in the NHL.

  11. avatar West Coast Fan says:

Hey CB… an NHL centerman should ideally be defensibly responsible. I note that JT is currently a -7, which is worst on the team. It’s also worthy to note that it was his failure (as the center) to pick up the trailer on the Habs’ go-ahead goal last night. Comparatively speaking: Weight: +1; Neilsen: +3; Bailey: +3. Why not put Tavares at wing, so he can focus on excelling below the offensive face-off circles? Comeau has excellent skills as a playmaker – I think he would make a great candidate as a second line center, behind Bailey.

  12. avatar admin says:

Among the players drafted in the first round whom the Islanders could have taken with the 5th: Nikita Filatov, Colin Wilson, Luke Schenn.

Among the players they could have taken at 9: Tyler Myers, Erik Karlsson, Michael Del Zotto, Jordan Eberle, John Carlson.

  13. avatar Themass says:

Angelo in Lancaster Pa. I wouldve went with lavender pads

  14. avatar Mike from Philly says:

C.B. – Thanks for doing this again! In response to comment 9 I really hope Charles Wang does not use Gordon as a scape goat if the team goes into an early funk since he is a lame duck right now. Any idea if the Isles are going to make a big wrong eventually right with the ticket prices? The Isles have always struggled at the gate (mostly due to suckage) but this year has been really bad. I mean we have played 3 weekend games (1 of which was a Home Opener) and a Rangers game and our largest crowd is 13,000! Not a good sign.

    Lets Go Islanders!

  15. avatar DC23 says:

    Dave from Staten Island

    CB,

Who would be the first foward called up out of JJ, RR, or Ulstrom?

    DC

  16. avatar Tradeup says:

Joe (East Setauket) – This year is different, time to break this losing streak against Philly. We lost those two games against the Habs, but they are playing very well right now and we have put up a decent record against a tough schedule so far.

  17. avatar admin says:

    (8) Scott: The Islanders are in a midst of a five-game run without HD on Cablevision. I’m affected by it, too. However, I’m not interested in an “investigation.” There is nothing to investigate. It’s up to the Islanders franchise if it wants to do something about it.

  18. avatar Vinny (ghost of volek) says:

Vinny (Brooklyn) – is this it for Martin, CB? Is he here for the long haul now? Can I safely get a #17 jersey?

  19. avatar Mario says:

CB, Blacked out again in CT. I would love to watch the game in regular definition. WHY AM I BLACKED OUT ALL OF A SUDDEN?
    Mario CT.

  20. avatar JerseyIslander says:

    Hey CB,

Keith originally from Massapequa, now in the dirty jerz… Hey CB, at what point do you think the Isles will start sending their young guns from the Sound Tigers up and benching certain players for not being productive? Or will this not happen at all? Thanks.

  21. avatar admin says:

    (11) I’ll let the coaches decide which forwards should play where (although I’ll respectfully disagree about Comeau being a No. 2 center). John Tavares has done just fine at center his entire young life. Until last night, he was averaging a goal a game. He will score at least one tonight, right? If the Islanders have to start moving a No. 1 overall pick to a new position…well, they have other things to work on.

  22. avatar admin says:

    (14) I would hope that by the time the Islanders come back from their West Coast trip in mid-November, the organization might seriously take a look at how to cure some of its attendance problems and make an announcement or two.

  23. avatar admin says:

Wow, that was a little shocking. In a one-minute span in the opening of the Islanders’ TV broadcast, we got a whole bunch of excuses about injuries, banged-up players and players having to change positions. I usually don’t comment on broadcast stuff during a game, but that was fascinating for Game 11 of this “no excuses” season.

  24. avatar Tradeup says:

I hope Garth is building this team for a run at the Cup and not aiming for only an 8th seed playoff birth. I realize we are all desperate for playoff action, but for the long term best, DP needs to see action, JT needs time at center, and Nino should take his time coming to the NHL. Time is on our side, I’d rather not sacrifise some of the future for the chance at a run this year. Comeau and Bailey seem to be breaking out this year, JT looks even better, Moulson continues to put up pts, Wiz looks great, the pieces are coming together slowly, let’s enjoy watching the masterpiece come together.

  25. avatar Mike from Philly says:

Remember Chris – It’s all positive or Wang will Jaffe you to the curb!

  26. avatar Jim Clark says:

Is Taveras one of the best divers in the league? Saw a playbyplay blog on last nights game in Montreal Gazette stating that.

Does anyone ever watch Mad Mike Milbury on his various tv gigs to see what ue says about the Islanders slow and steady plan?

  27. avatar 2Bit says:

Joe in L.A. … Grew up on Long Island been a big Isles fan since the Baumgartner days. I watch my games on NHL.com gamecenter live these days, which is nice if you’re just as big a hockey fan as an Isles fan. Any chance the Islanders see any money from the NHL based on the number of fans who sign up for the service to specifically watch the Isles?

I’ll be in town for the holidays & plan on attending the Montreal game on the 26th. Partly a Christmas present for my dad & also to help fill the house :)

  28. avatar admin says:

Islanders completely manhandled in the opening minutes. GOAL by Kimmo Timonen, 1-0 Flyers.

  29. avatar Strummer's Army says:

    George, Gainesville, FL.

CB, thanks so much for doing this. The Islander roster moves during the past few seasons, this summer and this year tell me they aren’t very serious about winning…why is that?

First goal who’s on the ice but Bruno the worst player in the NHl Geravis, who lost his man that scored.

  30. avatar Ethan K says:

There really is no better way to compete for a lottery spot than to put Gervais on the ice.

  31. avatar Rob from Suffolk says:

I wouldnt say that they aren’t serious about winning. They bolstered the defense and tried to get some forwards but couldnt. And after the good start, they can win, so why say they arent serious about winning?

  32. avatar jfnisles says:

not a good start, DiPietro looks very slow to react.

  33. avatar Bishopville Red says:

    @ 26:

Haven’t seen a lot of “Milbury on the Isles” stuff this year, bit he’s used very measured tones whenever I heard him in the past. If he didn’t watch his words, the other TV guys were poised to absolutely shred him.

  34. avatar dedshark says:

    that was a redic save

  35. avatar Bishopville Red says:

Good save by BOB on Bailey.

  36. avatar Strummer's Army says:

#30 While the Isles defense is slightly improved over last season that was not very hard to do as it was the NHL’s worst by far. Wiz was a great pick up, Jurcina and Eaton are not much of an upgrade, Hillen and Mac D playing much worse then last year, still counting on Martinek and Geravis to be something other then Martinek and Geravis have been for the past however many years. Career AHL’er cast off by a not very good Rangers squad given top PP minutes, A guy you waived named Jon Sim that no other NHL team wanted to pick up his cheap contract was resigned. Doesn’t point to being serious about winning. Life is about the results you produce and not so much what you “tried” to do.

  37. avatar Rob from Suffolk says:

I don’t understand blaming Rick on that goal. Gervais lost his man and left him wide open.

  38. avatar admin says:

    (26) Mike Milbury is doing TV now? He didn’t tell me that!

  39. avatar admin says:

    (18) Vinny: I’m not going to guarantee that it’s safe for you to buy a Matt Martin jersey. I don’t have that kind of coin. But I would be surprised if he’s not here for most, if not all of the rest of the season.

  40. avatar admin says:

That’s now three shifts in the first ten minutes in which the Flyers dominated for a while in the Islanders zone.

Flyers go on the power play after this last one.

  41. avatar dedshark says:

dp just needs to stop with the puck. he really does. its getting to the point where he should be benched if he keeps doing that crap. its embarrassing to watch.

  42. avatar Islesfan in Vancouver says:

Tom in Vancouver. So far the isles look completely overmatched

  43. avatar admin says:

Goalie int on Hartnell, ending Flyers power play after 17 seconds.

  44. avatar 2Bit says:

Why is John Sim still on this team? or at the very least not playing in Bridgeport?

  45. avatar jfnisles says:

    power play for Isles

  46. avatar Strummer's Army says:

I heard Milbury doing an afternoon game for the Bruins a couple years ago (while Logan was still on the Isles beat). The irony of the Bruin’s broadcast constantly referring to him being “Hockey expert”, was disgusting. He had the nerve to knock the Isles on how they were running their organization and how they’ve fallen apart. He totally acted like he had nothing to do with it. How Charles is still friends with him after all the pain he cost Charles I have no idea.

  47. avatar 2Bit says:

    NEED TO SCORE NOW

  48. avatar dedshark says:

what happened in the last 2 weeks? they look AWFUL

  49. avatar admin says:

I was kidding about not knowing that MM does TV.

    (46) Charles doesn’t have any regrets. He is still very close with him. They talk often.

  50. avatar 2Bit says:

Weight looked great the first few games, but his age seems to have caught up with him in the past few. Between him and P.A. throwing passes away on the PP, we’ll never convert.

  51. avatar jfnisles says:

right now they couldn’t score with a four man advantage…

  52. avatar admin says:

Islanders unable to score on a 4-on-3, brief 5-on-3 and longer 5-on-4.

  53. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

No power-play goals for this team = loss. Terrible 5-on-5 team which really is how you judge a club.

  54. avatar Strummer's Army says:

CB, after all the times Colin Campbell has shafted the Isls with suspensions or lack of, have the Isles after fought it in anyway? They just seem to bend over and take it from Campbell no matter what the video shows.

  55. avatar gordy lane says:

that is a big goalie. with schremp done with his rehab stint and back in ny. I understand wanting to give him an extra day but since he is not playing tonight and the next game isn’t till wed why not play another game in BP.

  56. avatar Rich M says:

CB….I called him Adam Oates lite…..He does not have a supporting cast..and forget about the players drafted after Bailey. That is a scouting and/or drafting issue. It is a player versus player comparison. Bailey at 9 or all the pleyers you mentioned at 5 and 9. For my money I take Bailey without even looking at the prospects we got for trading down twice

  57. avatar isles316 says:

You can’t give up goals like that.

  58. avatar dedshark says:

omg i cant even bother anymore. DP should not be starting

  59. avatar JerseyIslander says:

    …and boom goes the dynamite…

  60. avatar jfnisles says:

I guess DP doesn’t want to get his pink pads dirty

  61. avatar dedshark says:

nice bright pink pads to let the puck slide right through.

  62. avatar The Reis says:

Boy am I tired of getting destroyed by teams in our own division.

  63. avatar Ethan K says:

This is the goalie we’ve waited 3 years to see play again? I never liked him before, and now I remember why. He just can’t keep pucks out of the net enough. He’s not a good goaltender. Time to give up.

  64. avatar 2Bit says:

Can’t wait for the Poulin Wall era to begin.

  65. avatar Steven says:

better shake that one off…awful goal

  66. avatar Blizzard says:

soft gaol by DP hopefully thats the only one

  67. avatar NYIChooch says:

Ugh…hey all you DP-lovers…he’s still rusty, right?

No way you let that in. Sorry. He sucks.

  68. avatar Colin M. says:

I don’t want to pile on DiPietro (as usual), but both goals so far have been awful. First goal, he was super out of position due to his incessant flopping all over the ice (gotta be prepared for bad bounces, they happen all the time). Second goal was horrendous. Horrendous. No excuses. Barely screened, soft wrist shot from the top of the circle. This is the NHL, you need to be able to make a play on those.

  69. avatar Ryan says:

    Hi Chris,
My name is Ryan and I would like to know when Mikko Koskinen will be ready for the NHL because the Islanders need a new goaltender, quickly

  70. avatar Healy says:

Terribly soft goal there on the second one. DP doesn’t look confident. Sigh, with KO and Streit still so far away and Josh and Blake cooling I think this team needs some help.

  71. avatar jfnisles says:

    DP 2, Islander 0

  72. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

Why do I feel like DP’s save percentage will be about the lowest in the league most of this season?

  73. avatar admin says:

With 8 seconds left in the period, trainer Garrett Timms was concerned enough about DiPietro to go on the ice and see if he could finish the period.

  74. avatar vrinqueens says:

Wrist shot from 30 ft. beats him 5 hole cleanly, it’s gonna be a looong night.

  75. avatar Strummer's Army says:

First goal was the fault of everybody’s best friend off the ice and super nice guy Bruno Geravis plain and simple. Watch the replay. He had responsibility of the backdoor on that goal and he just let his man go. He’s seriously the worst player in the NHL.

  76. avatar NYIChooch says:

    I got this one CB…

Ryan, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Islanders are saddled with DP for 10 more seasons after this. Unless he gets injured and retires, we will be seeing him in net for another decade.

It doesn’t matter how many Poulins, Koskinens, etc we have, DP will always be there.

  77. avatar Colin M. says:

Also, I’m surprised no one has mentioned the obvious. DiPietro has now played in THREE different sets of pads this season. Three. Now I’m not going to pretend like I was some sort of elite goaltender, but I played ice hockey for my entire childhood and through my teens. I was a goalie. Breaking in pads is difficult and time-consuming, and all of the goalies I ever knew loved nothing more than a comfy, well-worn-in pair of pads. Most goalies don’t even like getting new ones when they find the perfect pair.

DiPietro is probably even more stiff-looking than usual because of all of the pad-swapping. He should take a cue from Arturs Irbe. It’s not about how you look, DP. It’s about whether you can stop the puck or not.

  78. avatar KG says:

this DP experiment needs to end…he is NOT a #1 goalie at the moment so who are the islanders kidding, acting like he is. Look at his stats. that soft goal was pathetic…

  79. avatar WM says:

Even if ticket prices get reduced, the Coliseum may see a season low attendance record this year.

  80. avatar Blizzard says:

…how sad is it that I hoped DP was injured….Im ashamed of myself.

  81. avatar admin says:

    (56) Rich: you would take Josh Bailey over Tyler Myers and Jordan Eberle? Why is the argument just based on the guys teams 5-8 took? The NYI moved back and it appears did not get the best player.

  82. avatar Ethan K says:

I think it’s time we give Gervais a chance at goaltending.

  83. avatar Madchef says:

he was probably concerned to see if DP’s feelings were hurt cause he has us in a 2-0 hole

  84. avatar D. Meng says:

no way DP comes back for 2nd

  85. avatar Ant says:

As long as the Islanders keep playing DP we will not win.Gives up too many soft goals and flops all over and slow getting back up.Please also no more Weight on PP gives up the puck way too much and doesn’t shoot.Hopefully last game we see Sim also.

  86. avatar 2Bit says:

I’ll agree on Tyler Myers, but how is Jordan Eberle a better player than Bailey? I’m not convinved on that point.

  87. avatar MPH says:

Do you think Rolie should be the #1 Goaltending based on what you’ve seen this season?

  88. avatar Danbury Islanders Fan says:

Mario, I am in Danbury and able to watch the game. My cable provider is U-verse.

  89. avatar chrism says:

Anyone else realize that our losing streak started when rollie had the hot hand on the road trip and then was benched? because of a coaching/management decision..just saying

  90. avatar Ryan says:

There’s 6 players I would consider taking over Josh Bailey in the 2008 draft

  91. avatar johngalt says:

Weight all but said it. Two bad goals killed the team, especially the second when they were getting back in the game, at least territorially. DP has fallen and he can’t get up

  92. avatar The Mick says:

Extremely frustrated. Not really sure what else to say. Why does this team start so poorly? Why is DP playing? Why do they only get one shot on net on the PP? Why can’t they score on the PP? Why are they so bad 5 on 5? Where is the progress?

My only positives…Wiz has been good. Tavares has shown considerable improvement on the puck. Bailey looks like a top six forward.

  93. avatar admin says:

    (86) 2Bit: I’ll remind you of that one in a year or so.

  94. avatar brian says:

Minus 8 on the season and counting for Tavares. Can anyone say liability at even strength?

  95. avatar geduffer says:

I see the vultures are out tonight. I’m glad I’m on vacation in the Bahamas and watching Hockey Night in Canada since we have CBC down here.

  96. avatar admin says:

    (19) Sorry, Mario. That question is way above my paygrade.

  97. avatar Jeff says:

CB: Why so down on Bailey? As you like to say about DP, this is the guy we have.

  98. avatar gino says:

for gods sake i was hoping that dp would be roberto luongo for halloween but with those pads and gloves and the way he’s been playing i think he’s more like manon rheaumme

  99. avatar admin says:

    (98) Not down on Bailey. Like the kid a lot. Pretty good player. That wasn’t the discussion I was having.

  100. avatar Bishopville Red says:

I think Bailey is a good player and looking better, but the Isles were too clever by half, trading down and missing out on guys who already look better, and still have more upside.

  101. avatar Mike H says:

Mario (19). I’m in Danbury CT and Comcast has it on the overflow channel 77. If you have another system, go to msg.com and they will tell you which channel its on

  102. avatar NYIChooch says:

What the hell happened to Hillen? He really looks lost out there.

  103. avatar Bishopville Red says:

Finally saw the high lights. Those are two UGLY goals. DP looks like a landed salmon, flopping around so much.

But my position on the guy is pretty well established…

Good save on Hartnell. not GREAT! Like Butchie’s been told to play it up.

  104. avatar NickyL says:

    aaaaaaaaaaand that’s all she wrote.

  105. avatar Danbury Islanders Fan says:

    Where is the defense?

  106. avatar 2Bit says:

oh man, dp really needs to stay in the damn net!!!

  107. avatar NYIChooch says:

Well, it’s been real folks. This team is asleep and has been for the past 4 games.

Can’t bear to watch another minute.

  108. avatar Steven says:

oof, that was another blunder for DP – not a strong game so far tonight – but then again, no one’s playing well.

  109. avatar chrism says:

im attempting to rip my eyes out

  110. avatar Mario says:

Mike, Im in west haven, ct and have directv.
They are telling me its blacked out. I called them. I watched every game so far but the last 3 are blacked out.

  111. avatar 2Bit says:

can we put in Rolli please?

  112. avatar NickyL says:

After the game, I think Gordon should have his team do sprints, just like in the movie “Miracle”.

  113. avatar JD says:

Both teams played last night but the Isles don’t seem to have their legs at all.

  114. avatar chrism says:

hey for everyone who got a blacked out tv-you are the lucky ones!

  115. avatar NYIChooch says:

    Unreal.

  116. avatar PURIFY says:

doesnt gordon believe in time outs!!! how about pull the goalie

  117. avatar Blizzard says:

    …k its gettin ugly

  118. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

No more trips to Philly, just a waste of time, money and gas. Give them the 2 points and move on.

  119. avatar Darren says:

Very frustrating game. My boys have given up the game and left the room to play baseball in the yard.
They look overmatched and disorganzied. Number 4 just went in. Quite embarassing.

  120. avatar StevieL says:

Anybody want to hit somebody? 4-0 time to put on the foil! DP ever stand up?

  121. avatar Jeff says:

DP for life brought to us by the same guy who wondered why a sumo wrestler in goal wouldn’t work. Really wish he’d gone with the sumo idea.

  122. avatar JerseyIslander says:

Sounds like no one is trying out there, at least from the radio perspective…

  123. avatar NickyL says:

Ladies and Gentlemen, your real 2010 New York Islanders!

  124. avatar Rich M says:

CB….Tyler Myers now…Eberle no way….BUT LOOK AT THE PLAYERS WE HAVE…a

  125. avatar 2Bit says:

ugh … good night all. Time to go to work and be productive.

  126. avatar Islesfan in Vancouver says:

The islanders effort has declined steadily the last few games and this result is what they deserve tonight. Just overall a terrible effort

  127. avatar Colin M. says:

Question: what DOESN’T fit in between DiPietro’s five hole?

  128. avatar islandersfan4ever says:

BGL in Va. Get DP far away from the goal. This is pathetic. This carcillo Konopka fight is merely a distraction for time for DP. Please retire DP and give this team a chance.

  129. avatar chrism says:

wow-im tired after watching that fight

  130. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

Isles look small and slow, as is often the case when playing the Flyers.

Full marks to Zenon for trying to spark the team.

  131. avatar Ryan says:

atleast you can always count on Konopka for some energy

  132. avatar StevieL says:

CB is it just me or are the refs really letting the fights go this year. That was a good 2 to 3 minute brawl!!

  133. avatar Rick says:

Does Botta ever say a bad word about DP? Any comments Chris? Or is that not pc? not saying that hes getting alot of support, perhaps but he needs some ahl starts (although he played terribly there too…)

  134. avatar Healy says:

    On Pronger’s goal:

Butchie “DiPietro had no chance on that”

This right before we see an angle from behind Pronger showing NO traffic. DP saw it all the way and it just went over his blocker.

Snow, get us some &(*&$ help for *&#* sake! We are only going to play the Flyers and Penguins and Rangers more times.

  135. avatar admin says:

Zenon Konopka and Daniel Carcillo with arguably the fight of the week. Flyers up 4-0.

    NYI on PP

  136. avatar mtrico says:

I am starting to wonder if that fast start by the Islanders was nothing more than a giant tease.

  137. avatar IslesFanInProvidence says:

Thanks for the great read as always guys. I;m throwing in the towel early tonight. Watching the Penn State game…this is getting depressing much quicker than I expected.

Thanks CB, have a great night.

  138. avatar JKP on LI says:

Those of us who missed Bro Hymn have had a chance to hear it a bunch tonight…

  139. avatar Rich M says:

Sorry just to say Bailey has an AHL team to play with…with a scoring winger the man will dominate…By the way the defense of DP is sickening. I know you do not want to get in the discussion, but Roli gives us best chance to win. Please give us a piece soon…who is instructing that DP play. His career sadly is over. He was never that great to begin with. I don’t why people think he was so great. Drafted #1 now that was a waste. Why don’t we go back to 200 draft and see how many people we would rather have drafted over DP.

  140. avatar Strummer's Army says:

119, you got it right, like the last few games there are only a few guys giving it their all and many floaters who appear to not care.

Mottau lost his man on the Carter goal. Team defense on the last one was just horrible.

I cannot figure out hwo the effot over the past so many years has been terrible no matter who the coach or the players are on too many nights.

Nice fight by Konopka and Carcillo. Cheers to both.

How about this Deryk Engelland kid from Pit? Look nice on the Isles.

  141. avatar kurvers28 says:

Maybe Rick can try purple pads next time?

  142. avatar JD says:

can’t believe Gordo hasn’t either called a timeout or pulled Ricky yet

  143. avatar Madchef says:

they are so outclassed in this game tonight it makes me sick. I say leave dp in even if he gives up 8 goals, lets say as punishment although this team hasn’t exactly helped him much tonight

  144. avatar dan says:

Worst game of the year. Not even in the game.

We are awful against philly. They are too physical and skilled. Plus BOB is playing well but we haven’t tested him to much.

  145. avatar Cary says:

Cary in Colorado here. Here’s what I want to say: this feels a lot like last year.

Which leads to my question for CB: Do you think Bailey or Comeau can consistently play good hockey this year?

    Thanks!

  146. avatar JerseyIslander says:

Does this mean Hunter will get suspended?

  147. avatar MPH says:

On Cue Trent Hunter doing what he does best…Leave the ice

  148. avatar admin says:

    (124) I guess that’s where our discussion ends with us agreeing to disagree.

  149. avatar Anthony Y. says:

Oh my GOD dipietro… get you HEAD IN THE GAME. Really, you want to fight with a flyer down, down 4-0, playing like garbage and you are coming off surgeries?

  150. avatar Ethan K says:

    Finally, Hunter hits someone.

  151. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

No doubt DP has worked hard to get back and is committed to this team, but is there anyone, anywhere that really thinks he can be a No. 1 goalie in this league now or in the future?

  152. avatar Steve M says:

    WOOO! Jeff Carter fantasy points!

  153. avatar JerseyIslander says:

This is going to get ugly….

  154. avatar JKP on LI says:

Anybody shocked that DiPietro made a selfish play? Anybody? Bueller?

  155. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

Can’t help but feel for DiPietro who at the moment is just a shadow of what he once was. Painful to watch him in net right now. Slow motion. And to think it all went wrong at a damn All-Star Skills Competition.

  156. avatar PURIFY says:

omg gordon showed emotion tell the ref to f off.. mayb he should dress

  157. avatar StevieL says:

This is going to get ugly 5 on 3!! Over and under on goals against tonight??

  158. avatar Blizzard says:

    …five game suspension IMO.

  159. avatar JD says:

can’t wait to hear what Gordo has to say in the postgame. even he can’t deny the obvious about DP.

  160. avatar Steven says:

With all the injuries it looks like DP is real unsure of himself or just just cannot do what he did before. Scott and Garth have to do something. Sit some guys bring some guys up from Bridge.

  161. avatar admin says:

    (133) PC? lol. I can only assume you must be new here, Rick.

  162. avatar JD says:

there needs to be a lineup shakeup before the next game.

  163. avatar JerseyIslander says:

@Steven (160) I agree… sit some of the dead weight and bring up some young guns! At least it will be interesting!

  164. avatar Colin M. says:

I know Hunter isn’t exactly everybody’s favorite Islander, but that was a perfectly clean hit as far as I can tell. Shoulder-to-shoulder. Sometimes people get hurt on clean plays. Sad but true.

I like how DP skated towards the blue line like he was going to fight somebody. Embarrassing.

  165. avatar NYIChooch says:

There was NOTHING wrong with that hit.

  166. avatar admin says:

    (159) No post-game tonight. They usually go quickly to Hockey Night Live.

  167. avatar dedshark says:

nielsen for the selke. WOW. Im sold on getting his jersey now.

  168. avatar matt says:

    Franzie!!!

  169. avatar Ethan K says:

That was actually a clean hit…

  170. avatar Darren says:

I feel for Gordon. We need to get him on long-term.

  171. avatar admin says:

Frans Nielsen gets a penalty shot, down 5-on-3. Then scores on his usual move.

  172. avatar JD says:

    thanks cb. forgot about that.

  173. avatar StevieL says:

    Frans is a pro!!!

  174. avatar Blizzard says:

    Franzzzzzzzzzzz

  175. avatar Darren says:

    Kudos to Nielsen, what effort.

  176. avatar Steven says:

140 the Isles could use a Rex Ryan type of coach. There is no doubt the talent is not all there yet but I’m starting to worry about Scott.

  177. avatar islandersfan4ever says:

    FRANS!!!!!!!

  178. avatar JerseyIslander says:

And… now we are back to where we started!

  179. avatar admin says:

    Pronger 5-on-3. 5-1.

  180. avatar StevieL says:

Seriously! DP is on his knees every time!! Stand up DP!!

  181. avatar Anthony Y. says:

Forget about this game obviously, but wow I love the effort by Nielsen there. Fought off a hook, from two players and still got a shot ofof, and then scored on the PS.

  182. avatar Bishopville Red says:

@ JKP 154 – My thoughts too. Just more of what you can expect from DP – LOOKING like he’s up to something, ultimately doing nothing but hurting us. Typical appearances instead of substance.

Penalty and penalty shot – Honestly, that was the first time I’ve noticed Nielson all year.

  183. avatar Steven says:

Peter Laviolette really has his “Thank God I was fired from this team” look on his face tonight.

  184. avatar rob76 says:

If we had 20 Frans’ we would be a great time – down 4-0 2 men down – the ship is sinking and that effort – nevermind the goal – was that of a true winner. The one bright spot in tonights game

  185. avatar Rich says:

Look out now comes all the DP whinning.
That slap shot in the upper corner from that close in is going to beat 8 out of 10 NHL goalies.

  186. avatar Darren says:

With a young team and missing MS and KO, there will be these days/weeks for the next couple of years.

  187. avatar Bishopville Red says:

Another goal, another excuse from Butchie.

Time for my Halowe’en party. Can’t possibly be as scary as this was.

  188. avatar PURIFY says:

and people want to know why there are so many empty seats at games….. reality is back.

  189. avatar Ant says:

Can we send DP to the WHL lol.I think our 3 goalies in the AHL would be better.

  190. avatar Lance79 says:

Is it just me or does this team look like it misses Grabner and Nino?

  191. avatar Darren says:

On DP. I think he is a good kid, but the Isles have not faired well on these long term deals. They are really hurting the org as we still pay for Yashin.

  192. avatar Rick says:

i may be new here, CB, but optimism is not a word i would use to describe DP’s performance, no?

  193. avatar StevieL says:

Our D will be exhausted and worn out by December. They are taking a beating!

  194. avatar Anthony Y. says:

@Rich (182) You must have missed the first two goals that put the Isles behind, and the part where dipietro gave the flyers a 5 on 3 for no reason by leaving the crease.

I like dipietro, but he makes bad decisions to put his team in trouble. I honestly hope he stays in the the rest of th egame and gets a 10 spot put on him. I want to see how bad his stats can get, and then hear the excuses given when he gets the start in 3 of the next 5 games.

  195. avatar Themass says:

I feel for Howie and Butch since they have no choice but to watch this

  196. avatar Colin M. says:

I agree with #191. That last goal was a laser, no doubt about it, but what of DP’s play the rest of the game? DP seems like a nice person, and I’m sure this isn’t what he wants. But reality is reality.

Also agreed with whoever said that Butch makes excuses for DiPietro pretty much without fail after every goal scored.

  197. avatar Jeff says:

Doug Weight on the point again. Unreal.

  198. avatar JKP on LI says:

Rich, considering that 50% of the NHL goalies are backups, I don’t know that it’s unfair to ask DiPietro to be in the top 20% if we’re going to play him. Roloson, by the way, is 14th in GAA and 13th in save percentage.

But that aside, I’d be a lot kinder to DiPietro if he didn’t make ego plays like trying to fight for no reason, overplaying the puck every game, and trying to “fungo” the puck out of the zone. Those are all me-first kind of plays, and they have nothing to do with stopping the puck.

  199. avatar Jeff says:

    DP! DP!

  200. avatar Jim M says:

Micky Mouse Islanders WHAT A JOKE!!

  201. avatar Anthony Y. says:

if we can get a late goal here, it is only a 3 goal game. I have see these types of games flip in momentum before and…. oh wait nevermind, 6-1.

  202. avatar gino says:

    giveaway gervais for 6th goal.

  203. avatar Islesfan in Vancouver says:

Gervais with a terrible back pass in the flyer zone. You don’t put it behind you as a defenseman, you put it deep so you don’t get caught.

  204. avatar Darren says:

Tough to watch for for DP. Not much chance again, but he does look slow. Rolo should start and let DP get up to speed at practice.

  205. avatar VegasVic says:

time to end the Comeau experiment as well

  206. avatar StevieL says:

Boy! Gordo letting DP take a beating! Interesting!

  207. avatar chrism says:

this is slowly turning into a support group for isles fans..a lot like last year

  208. avatar matt says:

I’m more concerned about the terrible defense than I am about DP.

  209. avatar bayduvinislander says:

Great to see DP is back to his old form!

  210. avatar Jeff says:

    Double chili in Philly.

  211. avatar Bishopville Red says:

At this point, leave DP in there. No need for Roloson to get the stench of this one on himself.

  212. avatar Hoser14 says:

What’s Gordon waiting for? Ricky getting a bad case of sunburn on the back of neck!

  213. avatar Paul says:

Is it just me or would Adam Larsson look really good in orange and blue…

  214. avatar Bishopville Red says:

Maybe this is Gordon’s moment of insubordination. “You told me to play DP? I’m playing DP!”

Beleive it or not, I’m actually cheering for DP to be in goal right now. LEAVE HIM IN!

  215. avatar gino says:

cb- i think there’s a gettogether at crossroads tonight. i don’t think anyone hear will blame you if you bailout early

  216. avatar dan says:

sickening to watch. They shouldn’t even come out for the 3rd

  217. avatar Mario says:

Good Night. Thank god im blacked out. I didnt have to see the carnage.

  218. avatar PURIFY says:

hate to say it this team played better when jt was out….teams know how to keep us from scoring clog the front of the net and we are done. if we cant score on yhe pp dont expect us to score 5 on 5, we are not capable. ps cant wait to hear ko breakdown on hnl

  219. avatar Rick says:

hate to harp on DP…but its therapeutic; he needs to take a goalie clinic at iceworks, maybe get a bit stronger on his skates

  220. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

It can’t be easy for Butchie. He knows the guy he replaced was let go for being too critical. (Which was ludicrous)

  221. avatar MAD FAN says:

    comeau 4th liner at best

  222. avatar Steven says:

Good thing the Isles have mostly road games coming up. I’d really like to hear from Charles tonight. Management needs to show there engaged especially after tonight.

  223. avatar cjcb says:

Boom or Bust are Jon Sim and Bruno
Gervais our version of Luis Castillo and Oliver Perez?

  224. avatar KG says:

any guesses on what DP’s GAA is after this game?

  225. avatar Blizzard says:

…maybe we should have kept Nino

  226. avatar Brett says:

In honor of today’s Rally to Restore Sanity, I’ll note that, just as this team wasn’t as good as it seemed during the early winning streak, the team also isn’t as bad as it appears in this game. This is not an amazing hockey team. But apart from tonight’s game, the team has been competitive in just about every game. Everything will be alright.

  227. avatar JD says:

221, probably close to Oliver Perez’ earned run average.

  228. avatar NYIChooch says:

I have a feeling the Gordo and DP are going to be at war. Something is going on there. For Gordon not to pull DP, especially with our next game not until Weds…I guess we’ll be looking for a new coach in the off-season.

  229. avatar D. Meng says:

from a die hard: we don’t suck a little less each year, we suck the same every year.

  230. avatar WM says:

Isles are winning in faceoff draws 27-22 tonight!

  231. avatar Steven says:

I’m not crazy about Gordon right now but DP has no right to be upset at anyone.

  232. avatar gino says:

cjcb-just like is snow and gordon our minaya and manuel

  233. avatar Islander57 says:

    This sucks!

  234. avatar Walt says:

DP in pink pads how fitting. Hunter playing his usual awesome game and the slide to the bottom five begins. Also will someone anyone cut Butch Goring’s microphone.

  235. avatar JD says:

would love to be a fly on the wall in the Isles locker room right now. Gordon obvously trying to prove something by not pulling Ricky.

  236. avatar Anthony Y. says:

Flyers broadcast is RIPPING on dipietro. I love it. Glad I don’t have the “positive isles broadcast”.

  237. avatar TuxTax says:

Should I breakout my torch and pitchfork yet CB? Oh yeah James from Huntington fan since I can remember…too bad I dont remember the glory years.

  238. avatar kenny says:

DP is finished as a goaltender.. hes always standing up when he should be down in butterfly during netmouth scrambles.. when he does go down he cant recover worth a **it. hes done. ok everyone STFU about the crap about him needing time. now hes done.

onto doug deadweight. get him the f*ck off the point on the powerplay. YOU CANNOT HAVE A GUY WHO CANT SKATE AND HAS NO SHOT ON THE POINT. all he does is pretend hes gonna shoot and pass to wiz every single time. this power play isnt “number 1″ in the league because of him. all doug weight does is turn the puck over. HES DONE LETS MOVE ON GARTH!

who else needs this. o wait. JON SIM your terrible. if and when this team gets healthy martin should take his spot.

TRENT HUNTER , cannot skate or hit the net. why is he on this team.

BRUNO GERVAIS…. i dont care how many injuries there are. this guys a joke. cant do anything right.

  239. avatar Walt says:

My wife is stuffing Halloween candy bags rather then watch this garbage and she is a diehard.

  240. avatar mrlbem says:

Larry from Great Neck–Fan since 1972.

Roloson would not have made a difference tonight. Team looks pathetic. And I understand that Ricky has 10 years left. But what if he’s nothing better than a .850% save percentage goalie with a 3.5 GAA or higher? At what point can the team do something about it and does the owner have the cajones to do something about it? At least when Roloson gets scored upon, the goals look like goals an NHL goalie gives up? When Rick gives up some goals, it looks like they’re on shots a Bantam goalie would stop.

  241. avatar Lance79 says:

I agree that this is strangely therapeutic, the goal differential in recent losses showed how badly we were outplayed for stretches, tonight there are no such illusions. I have faith in this team but tonight had better be the catalyst for doing some soul-searching.

  242. avatar gino says:

don’t i repeat don’t pull dp, he needs to know how effective he really is at this point. maybe, like roy he’ll ask to be traded, ahahahaha

  243. avatar Mario says:

If and when DP is done the solution is: POULIN!!!! I watched him play both games for the Tigers and he is gonna be the real deal.

  244. avatar 7thWoman says:

Hey PBers. Just a question, but I think I remember Gordon say last season or the season before that he doesn’t believe in pulling his goaltenders when things are ugly? I could be wrong. (again)

  245. avatar Brian says:

    LETS GO ISLANDERS !!!!!!!!

  246. avatar Jake says:

White pads, blue pads, pink pads, DP looks like he’s wearing a maxi pad. Our best player is Frans Nielsen. Very sad.

  247. avatar Walt says:

It’s the day before Halloween and the Isles are scared of the Flyers.

  248. avatar Blizzard says:

….glad to see DP starting the 3rd. Truthfully though he is not the reason we are getting stomped. Although he certainly hasn’t helped.

  249. avatar Walt says:

Every goalie we face is AWESOME!!!!

  250. avatar bayduvinislander says:

Goring’s gonna need back surgery after all this shoveling.

  251. avatar Pat says:

    Just end this nightmare already.

  252. avatar Mario M says:

DP is done. No lateral movement, whatsoever. Hang em up Rick, go and play with your wife full-time!!!!!!

  253. avatar Brian from Massapequa says:

    (243) He most definitely said that and then proceeded to pull goalies that were not performing well…sometimes.

  254. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

Gordon still without a road win against the Atlantic except at MSG. It’s his third season.

  255. avatar chrism says:

so …about that extension for gordon?????

  256. avatar islandersfan4ever says:

#238 I concur. Weight is just a babysitter taking up valuable Ice. Same doodoo different year. The season’s good start was a fluke.Gordon needs to go as well.THE SYSTEM just doesnt work.Quality players are needed,Wanger is deluded, and this team blows once again.Wiz’s gesture was probably directed alot of different ways.Jaffee got out when the getting was good!Rose and Goring are an embarrassment.

  257. avatar JKP on LI says:

Gordon said he didn’t believe pulling goalies when things got ugly to cover for the fact they dressed DiPietro when he wasn’t cleared to play. Not the organization’s finest hour.

  258. avatar admin says:

    (244) Denise: That was nonsense Scott tried to get away with two years ago when an injured Rick was dressed as the backup. No one bought it then and no one was buying it when he came clean and started pulling goalies plenty once Rick was out of the lineup.

  259. avatar NYIChooch says:

    Jake #245 – Awesome.

  260. avatar mht says:

The Fox-Cablevision dispute just ended.Thank God ,I can not stomach this crappy Islander performance. The TV goes on to the World Series.

  261. avatar chrism says:

can we at least get another fight-we are good at those this year

  262. avatar hollywood says:

This is a total team effort. What an embarrassment. Shame on them! It obvious that without Nino and Grabner they are slower. Reality is setting in,Gordon needs to make some simple changes. The PP with Weight at the point is horrible, I can understand on the 2nd unit but his passes haven’t been good at all.

  263. avatar Mike says:

The time has come for Rickety Red Light to hang up the pink pads and call it a career

  264. avatar jfnisles says:

where have you gone Bryan Trottier , Long Island turns it’s lonely eyes to you(with apologies to Simon and Garfunkel)

  265. avatar 7thWoman says:

and yet Rick is still in net.

  266. avatar JD says:

mht, thanks for the info. just changed the channel.

  267. avatar 2Bit says:

I just drowned my sorrows in a fistful of candy. What happened tothe team that was firing shots from every angle, controlling play & HITTING? Where did that team go?

  268. avatar chrism says:

gotta give you credit CB-even on such a crap night you will break 300 comments

  269. avatar 7thWoman says:

i guess the old saying still holds true. Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear. They need to update that to include stuff on the net. :o )

  270. avatar kurvers28 says:

At least if you bid on Rick’s pink pads, they will be very clean. Not one puck mark on them!!!!

  271. avatar Walt says:

Waiting for the Pronger hat trick.

  272. avatar 7thWoman says:

Per Twitter: Meszaros and Nodl have upper body injuries and will not return tonight.

  273. avatar rob76 says:

Walt (268) I’m waiting for the Carter Hat trick.

  274. avatar DC23 says:

We are the Clippers of the NHL. As a 30 yr Isles fan it pains me to say this.

  275. avatar hollywood says:

#265 is right. Where is the team that was shooting from all over and throwing the body. No reason for this effort. It began vs Toronto and it hasn’t gotten better.

  276. avatar Hoser14 says:

If Ricky’s comeback is “a work in progress” he should be working on his game not in the NHL, but in the AHL or ECHL. His game needs to broken down and re-built from square one.

While its not time to cut bait, DP at this point, he does not give the Isles the best chance to win. Gordon and Snow as old goalies, should see this and be honest about it.

Playing DP means that they are playing for a lottery pick!

  277. avatar Walt says:

Quick put Sim on the 1st line.

  278. avatar islanderfan39 says:

I’m on my way back to ct can’t watch the game how bad is dp. How bad is the deffense. I don’t want a dp basher telling me or a dp lover I just wanna no. Is this a message by gordon to mangment to keep ricky in to?

  279. avatar West Coast Fan says:

    Isles outshooting Philly lol

  280. avatar Strickland says:

    Butch is abysmal.

  281. avatar Walt says:

rob76 he almost got it earlier.

  282. avatar gino says:

255 & 256-maybe we could lure the head coach on the other bench, oh yea i forgot silly me, and refresh my memory, why did we get rid of him

  283. avatar chrism says:

    thank god for konopka

  284. avatar JKP on LI says:

Butch was great as a studio analyst, and I suspect he’d do a fine job (though not as good as Jaffe) on color if he didn’t make excuses all the time. Not that we’re wondering why he’d feel that way…

  285. avatar Steven says:

Nice job Z winning the fight. The Isles can do something.

  286. avatar NYIChooch says:

Konopka and Nielsen…the rest of this team can suck it tonight. Those 2 are the only ones playing with heart or an edge.

  287. avatar Walt says:

Apparently Konopka was the only one to get the message that there is a game tonite.

  288. avatar kurvers28 says:

CB….with the homerism on the broadcasts, Isles nation turns its lonely eyes to you. We need a post from you on what needs to be done with Rick. A full month in BP. You don’t rehab and find you game in the NHL. You tell it like it is!!

  289. avatar Walt says:

    Hat trick coming up.

  290. avatar chrism says:

DP-all about the dramatics-hitting the puck like that

  291. avatar hollywood says:

#278 Ricky let in 1 terrible goal but it wouldn’t matter. The team is stinking up the joint. All were no shows except for Neilson on the the play that led to the penalty shot.

  292. avatar PURIFY says:

too bad this years draft is considered weak!!!!!

  293. avatar Walt says:

    Another AWESOME Goalie!!!

  294. avatar Derek A says:

This hurts but we are walking wounded…

  295. avatar Walt says:

When you have one of the first five picks you will get a good player.

  296. avatar NYIChooch says:

    I Love Trevor Gillies.

  297. avatar chrism says:

hahahahahaah-i love gillies-flipping that twirp briere

  298. avatar Brian from Massapequa says:

Six Minutes for Roughing! That’s a new one on me.

  299. avatar NYIChooch says:

That was awesome. Why he wasn’t in this game earlier is beyond me. Hell, put him in net!

  300. avatar islandersfan4ever says:

drinking game for all the johnny on the spots!

  301. avatar Brett says:

Gillies’ new nickname is “Triple Minor”

  302. avatar hollywood says:

6 minutes for roughing, too damn funny.

  303. avatar PURIFY says:

295 walt alex daigle “ring a bell” #1 pick that was a bust.

  304. avatar Walt says:

Ten dollar tickets for next game.

  305. avatar NickyL says:

Looks like Ricky finally found his groove!! Too bad it’s in the third period and after letting in 6 goals. But hey, he’s been great since!

  306. avatar mike says:

the roster that this so called gm created is a bunch of outcasts like parentheau shremp who would not have a job if not for the islanders. And you want to know why we suck??

  307. avatar WM says:

Tickets for $14.92 for the Columbus game, perhaps?

  308. avatar D. Meng says:

butch needs to shut the hell up about damn bobvosky. we suck. dp sucks. there’s a reason the score is 6-1 and not 2-1

  309. avatar Walt says:

Purify, I remember Alex the Great and Patrik Stefan.I should have said most of the time.

  310. avatar Gchnyc says:

what did gillies do? i turned it off after the 2nd konopka carcillo fight…

  311. avatar Brian from Massapequa says:

    I’m loving DP right now!

  312. avatar islanderfan39 says:

291 thank you very much we need to play much much better

  313. avatar NYIChooch says:

OH MY GOD> That little SOB Briere needs a beating.

  314. avatar Bob Bassen says:

This may sound odd….and a stretch but I really miss The Jaff during blow-out games like these too. I know, I know, but something, anything to make the misery sensible.

  316. avatar Lombo9 says:

next saturday night at the coliseum should be interesting…. gonna be a brawl

  317. avatar hollywood says:

DP was telling Pronger to let him go with carcillo. That was great!

  318. avatar Walt says:

    Pronger cares he really cares!!!!!

  319. avatar Staten Islander says:

When do they play them again? Kanopka, Gillies and DP in horned rimed glasses and some foil.

The presser with Godon should be “interesting”

  320. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

Kudos to Rick for sticking up for Franz. Anyone who calls him selfish for that is dead wrong.

  321. avatar chrism says:

hopefully this game wakes us up

  322. avatar Jim M says:

    Briere better be suspended

  331. avatar IslesFanInProvidence says:

    I think DP wants Pronger

  333. avatar Staten Islander says:

Do they still have Haley in Bridgeport? Can they bring him up for the next meeting?

  334. avatar NYIChooch says:

    They should bring up Yablonski.

And call up Hamonic and put Gervais on waivers.

  335. avatar Tim F. says:

For the next Isles-Flyers game, I predict the Islanders debut of Jeremy Yablonski.

  336. avatar Steven says:

WM (#307) – Funniest comment ever.

  338. avatar JD says:

a statement has to be made for the next meeting. we all hate rick for his performance tonight but he was sticking up for his teammates at the end.

  339. avatar Bob Bassen says:

So much for Laviolette’s *Choir Boy* image. Thought he was always adament against *this* type of game. Guess he has become a *Flyer* through and through…

  340. avatar Derek A says:

Don’t want to just jump on DP, but maybe we do need to cut the losses of the pre snow era and ship him to Bridgeport. Despite this poor showing I’m still hopeful for the playoffs this year and very excite for next year. I can foresee things falling into place.

  341. avatar Lombo9 says:

So the highlights of the game on hockey night live are in HD, so why couldnt the game have been broadcast in HD?

  342. avatar Mikey says:

Why is Charles doing this to us? I understand why he’s circumventing the cap by relying on the buyouts/bonuses to reach the cap floor; he’s obviously broke. But why on earth did he fire Jaffe and replace him with Butchie? If the team is going to be awful year after year, then the least he can do is give us a competent and entertaining duo in the booth.

The worst part about all this is that he is refusing to negotiate an extension with Gordon and thereby setting him up to be the scapegoat. It’s a disgraceful display of incompetence and arrogance by our ownership.

  343. avatar Islanders Hopeful says:

Difference in this game was the Flyers Golaie was hot and the Isles was not. Rollie should be getting bulk of the work load until rick can prove he is the go to guy and not just bc his heart says so.

  344. avatar Islebethere4u says:

I’m sorry, but I’d like to know who paid off those refs tonight. I’ve seen badly called games before but this takes the cake. The Isles lost this game…no doubt…no crying about that, but…BUT… we were not only mugged in the third by the flyers but mugged and raped by the referees. Those two refs should be ashamed of themselves. But I don’t really expect anything from the league. Thats the hard part to take. Aclear attempt to injure at the end and only a 5 min call. also bad call on Hunter. Triple minor to one player on one team and no call on the other? Wow. I’d love to see the Islanders sign every toughguy they can find for the flyer game. Get thier revenge and then maybe I’ll feel better. If this isn’t a wake up call to the Islanders I don’t know what is.

  345. avatar chrism says:

agree with #343-how was that NOT an attempt to injure?-also i couldnt beleive that was franz talking smack-i wonder what had him so pissed at briere cheese..

  346. avatar Steven says:

I agree 343. I want a forth line of Trevor,Z, and Yablonski for the rest of the season. I’m tired of the NHL and the Town of Hemstead and everyone else messing with the Isles.

  347. avatar dan says:

At least Kyle sounds good on Hockey Night live

  348. avatar Islander57 says:

Well maybee round two will be a little more exciting, hopefully score is reversed, and we have a few more guys tape on the foil!

  349. avatar Rick says:

Can someone let Mr Wang know that Neil Smith was right.

“You don’t sign a goaltender to a 15 yr contract”

and I will add my line, “especially a mediocre at best” goaltender.

    and I am being nice

  350. avatar Islander Fan in NJ says:

@Lombo9. Exactly. Why is it such a challenge to broadcast anything in HD?

  351. avatar Jeff says:

    Briere better be suspended

  352. avatar GZ says:

This game left me w such a sick feeling in my stomach. What a mess.

I don’t know what’s worse … DP frequently being gout of position and letting up big rebound goals after he has to acrobatically dive to recover from his first save, or Goring who ALWAYS defends DP no matter how bad the goal. The worst thing Goring has said about DP all season is “I bet Ricky would like that one back.” Aside from that, it’s “DP had no chance on that one. The shot was just too good.” I bet he’s under orders from Wang to constantly be trying to say none of the goals are DP’s fault. Goring also said several times that the Flyers goalie was the difference maker in the game. Yeah he was great, but it’s unacceptable for us to play like crap and also let up 6 goals. What a mess.

  353. avatar Rick says:

Lombo and Islander fan the answer lies with Cablevision, the owners of MSG and The Rangers. You think they care about the Isles or their fans???

  354. avatar Bill W. says:

Garth! DP is killing this team. He belongs in Bridgeport until he can prove that he can play at the NHL level.

  355. avatar Jim Clark says:

Describing this performance as ugly, starting with the goalie, is an understatement. Maybe it’s time to start wearing a bag over my head at NCVMC.

  356. avatar 4theisles says:

Philly played with a European rookie goalie, who was outstanding. Why can’t we give Kosy or Poulie a shot to see what they can do in the Bigs – jut in case DP isn’t the goalie of the future?

  357. avatar znatokhokkeya says:

if not the penalty shot this is a shutout. Bobrovsky played yesterday, i assume he was not very tired.

  363. avatar Brian in VA says:

I told ya we’d lose in Philly! It was a “condo sale double your investment” Flyers lock… Face it we stink… Glad I chose to watch Knicks/Blazers… See ya next October!

  364. avatar robert says:

i said it last night that the isles will get a drubbing tonight and that weight should not be on the p.p.and when grabner returns he should be on the number 1 line. i also said all the dead wood should be shipped to bridgeport. sadly thats two thirds of the team starting with d.p. the isles have no future with d.p. as the number one goalie for 10 more years. the isles have no future with wang as the owner with the isles since they will allways have lowest payroll in the nhl not too mention a skeleton crew of scouts with no director of player development. all seats should now sell for $ 19.80 at least this way it will remind us of the start of a very good time. as long as wang is here and he continues to punish us because he didnt get his lighthouse, us islander fans will allways be in the dog house.

  365. avatar znatokhokkeya says:

butch goring sold his soul to the devil. the guy is just painful to listen

  366. avatar Tony says:

Let’s be honest–the Isles have not played well since the Toronto game. I enjoyed the ride while it lasted. It’s 2009 all over again.

  367. avatar Ct 1970s says:

No brawl next Saturday. Bettman will TELL our Triumverate not to play the tough guys, If they don’t obey, Konopka, Gillies and Jabo will be out within five minutes. Martin will follow by the ten minute mark. If course a clean hit will get Hunter 5-7 games [league will say it sets an example]. Ten minutes penalty to a guy that gets high sticked with intent to injure twice within a second and refs give one a major and the other nothing. Just the Islander get ten for what? Did he say something, if so why does Carcillo use the F word and get nothing? Alot stems from fact that there is no respect for Islanders at League Headquarters, or at MSG and the Triumverate sit there and take it. No wonder there are so many vacant seats, even when they practically give them away. Time the trio start to stick up for their players and their fans.
It comes down to Flyers can play old time hockey and Islanders must play be bettman rules. I’ve been here for 36 years and I’m really getting fed up. Bif supporter of building through the draft, but help the kids out. Stick up for them when refs and league jump all over the team. If the Trio don;t respect the team what do they expect from fans?

  368. avatar NYIFAN10 says:

Stick a fork in Rick and the team. They’re both done and it’s only game 11.

  369. avatar Pete says:

Pete from Massachusetts. Isle fan for past 28 years.

-Awful display for the past 4-5 games
-dipietro is not good now and never was. He has no business being an NHL goalie. In his prime he was an average goalie and a good stickhandler
-this team needs to cut some dead (doug) weight: weight, gervais, hunter, sim are not NHL players currently and have no business being on the ice
-I seriously question gordons coaching ability if he can’t see things that every fan here does…..ie doug weight on pp point, martinnot making this team, gervais getting any icetime, etc.
-hillen must be deathly ill to go from a solid dman to this disaster

  370. avatar NYI FAN says:

We are a team of rejects, face it, the only home grown talent is a result of really bad management choices. (and they are not any good) The team owner is a power freak that depends on hand picked yes men to run this minor league franchise, I am sorry for the rant but we are & will continue to be the joke of professional hockey. And I forgot, DP & his contract should be flushed down a toilet.

  371. avatar StevieL says:

Can Gordo ever show some emotion behind the bench? The refs are abusing his team and he just stands there and listens! Throw something! Get fired up! Get thrown out! Show some emotion! This young team needs leadership and to play with emotion. They come out and get seriously outplayed in the first 10 minutes seems like almost every night. That is right on Gordo! He needs to lead!!

  372. avatar Mark in Ottawa says:

We will not win a cup with Rick Dipietro in goal.

    He has to be released.

Wang needs to make him a PR figure. Just keep him off the ice.

  373. avatar Gary says:

Well I’m glad to see the islanders are back to normal, that is getting killed everynight. Brier should be suspended for a cross check to the head but won’t because colin campell sucks. Can’t wait to put this already wasted of a a season behind me.

  374. avatar German Islesfan says:

time for head hunting next week Briere and Carcillo deserved it. Nice clean hit Hunter Meszaros should play badminton…whiner.

  375. avatar isles316 says:

the Islanders played like they thought they were going to lose. They are skating without a purpose. As bad as the Isles were two years ago and at times last year, this is the first time I remember the Isles looking lifeless for many games in a row under Scott Gordon.

  376. avatar Andre says:

The bottom line is the rebuild is not working. The fans have EVERY right to stay away until a better product is put on the ice. I am not sure Garth Snow can get the job done. At the end of the day this team will be a bottom feeder until 2015 when they know where their future is going to be.

  377. avatar Ryan says:

Can anyone blame CB for bailing on this comments area after 9:10pm? If I had to deal with this kind of repetitive crap and “I CAN TYPE MY WHINING LOUDER THAN YOU”, I’d probably shut this space down altogether. Note, folks: CB’s neither overly positive nor overly negative. This game is what it is, a stinker that got vicious towards the end, and declaring the Islanders done for the season is as ridiculous as declaring them champions when they were atop the Eastern Conference. Just… breathe a little.

  378. avatar Vlad from Brooklyn says:

DP clearly NOT ready which cost the team too often. Weight should not be the captain of this team. He brings absolutely NO threat in every area to any opponents. Gordon just showed his inability to hold this squad together again. The only two positives for today: Tavares not giving up and Okie without a shoulder sling.

  379. avatar peter debenedetto says:

How about tickets for $9.11…..because someone needs to call the police….the fans are getting robbed!!!!!

  380. avatar m says:

you cant dwell on the past! Ever think he sucks because he has no support?! Whats done is done! No going back. If you love your team, you gotta be behind every player. DP may not be what you WANT. But thats too bad. He is not terrible. He is just not on his game. I’ve actually given him a chance, and i was more pissed then anybody when he was drafted. You all wanna go to the cup again? Stand up for your team and stop being babies. Everybody sucked tonight. Not just him. In unity, there is strength

  381. avatar Vito Savello says:

Wow. Just saw the end of the game. What an embarrassment. Would it kill Martinek to stand up to Pronger. What a disgrace. Say what you want, but DiPietro may be the only one on this team with any pride. These guys humiliated themselves tonight.

  382. avatar hockeytime says:

I am glad i missed this one but looks like a couple of things. Injuries are costing this team and DP needs to retire.

  383. avatar m says:

And I understand. We could have had Gaborik, Spezza, etc. We even let Louongo go! But we can’t do anything about it. I’ve been an islander fan forever. Ricky is 1000% better than Joey McDonald, and when ON his game, better than lundquvist. We are never gonna get anywhere by trashing people. We gotta do the right thing and stand up for the islanders. For the good and bad times.

  384. avatar m says:

#381…shut up! DP is the only talent we got left next to tavares

  385. avatar shlala says:

you guys aren’t fair to DP, at all. You blame him for everything! Blame Mike milbury, not DP. Dp is just doing his job

  386. avatar 39forever says:

worst performance ever. DP you had no D. Dont lose hope buddy

  387. avatar Themass says:

Fellow Islander fans…relax! The good start was a little decieving. The team is ok without injuries. Add all the players on the shelf now an we are doomed. Without Streit and KO their margin was real small. Add to the injuries: Grabner, Jurcina, and Nino leaving and being replaced by inferior players anD this is what you have. Until they get healthy this is it. We just don’t have the depth. The reason they were at least pcking up points early was because of sound defensive play. I know DP was bad tonight but I’d argue our play in our own zone was even worse. It seems like our break-outs have been figured out and the coaches have no answer for it. Let’s support our team. This will be a streaky season but that was to be expected.

  388. avatar islanderrrr says:

I think the goaltending situation is the least of our problems right now…

  389. avatar m says:

#385….how was DP bad? He had no D. ITs like having a 5 on 0 the whole game! I just dont understand

  390. avatar fred says:

everyone has got o chill on dp. The guy isnt the anti christ…relax…hes good once on his game. I never seen so much hate for one man

  391. avatar Michael says:

What a cheap shot at Nielson’s head. Retribution Saturday night! Got to love the stiff arm by Gilles.

  392. avatar tanker says:

let them talk and talk. When DP shuts them up, they will have nothing further to say

  393. avatar 19 Islander in NJ 22 says:

Tonight’s game was pretty much a reality show of sorts … I’d name that show … “Back to Reality”.

The show opens with a narriation that starts like this…

“New goal song … New old home road jerseys … same ole Islanders…”

There are kids that were born during the playoff run of 93 graduating HS now.

  394. avatar IslesFaninFlorida says:

THe REFS SHOULD BE FIRED AFTER THIS GAME, Its funny how they had Stan interview Retired Ref KERRY FRASHIER during 1st intermission, and he was telling a story about how he gave the ISLES 3 penalties in like 10 minutes of a game back when AL was coach. AL called KERRY over to the bench and was like WTF, and Kerry said he was sorry, he was having a off night?? I ACTUALLY READ THE WORDS out of GORDOS MOUTH, he told one of the Refs to GO F-OFFF, TWICE!! DIPI has been decent, not SUPER but give him time, we ARE NOT GOING TO THE STANLEY CUP this YEAR so WHO CARES if we LOSE A FEW GAMES. GOrdo has HEART, hes just getting F-D all night long by the REFS. Hunter gets booted for a clean hit, Z-K gets 6 minutes for roughing to get him off the ice but Carcillo gets nothing and then he comes back to fight at the end of a BLOWOUT!!! LAvi should be FINED aswell for putting him out when the game was OVER!!! BULLCRAP GAME, THOSE REFS SHOULD BE FINED!!

  395. avatar ERIKA TENCIC says:

Why is Bruno playing? He can come over my house any time, but he CAN’T play defense. I tried and tried to understand the whole 15 yr contract logic with D.P. The bottom line : He was an average goalie then, he is waaay below average now! Let him broadcast—wasn’t that the intention when they did not want to re-up Jaffe? One last thing: If Bailey had such amazing chemistry with Commeau, why would you break them up? Can someone please answer these mundane questions so I don’t go crazy.(might be too late)! What happened to this team in a week, did they expand all their energy already? Very disappointing ho-hum game tonight. first time I turned the game off early—ever!

  396. avatar Bishopville Red says:

Didn’t know “m” was short for Cleopatra – queen of “denial”

I figured out the attendance issue. Teams offer season tickets, but also sell partial packages, right? So conceivably, you could buy an “atlantic division” package, a weekend package, an “original six” package, evan a “make your own” 5 or 10 game package.

How about a “DP Free” package? Buy these 5/10 games, and we promise not to play DP, thereby giving this team a half-chance of success!

    It would sell. No joke.

  397. avatar Bishopville Red says:

Briere’s high stick to Nielsen’s face was vile.

DiPietro’s showmanship trying to pretend he wanted to fight was laughable. ONCE AGAIN< it’s about what it looks like, not about actually doing it when it comes to DP. Appearances, not reality.

Cut the cord already DP is beyond a joke.

  398. avatar NYIhockey16 says:

Well, to paraphrase Denny Green after that Monday Night loss to the the Bears a few years ago, I can finally say with certainty, “THE ISLANDERS ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!” Sure, I was excited and encouraged by the 4-2-1 start, but I had a feeling the other skate would drop and four losses later, it has. Now, it’s like watching replays from last season — depressing. On the positive side, however, Nielsen’s 10 penalty minutes against Philly were four more than he had all last season and with six fights in 10 games, Konopka is on pace for nearly 50 for the season and his 22 PIM Saturday put him on a pace to absolutely shatter Tim Jackman’s team-leading 98 last season. So, at least they’re showing some fight.

  399. avatar hockeytime says:

Hey 383.. I’ll bet you a hundred bucks that DP never returns to form.

  400. avatar Brian says:

I think the line of the night goes to the guy above who actually had the nerve to say the DP was better than Lundqvist!!!! Oh man, that is just priceless. Lundqvist???? Lundqvist???? Really???? I mean, I know we are all frustrated on here but let’s stop the insanity. Sir, you should be banned from posting on any hockey sight for the remainder of the year. Lundqvist????? DP????? Sheesh.

  401. avatar Isles83 says:

I am sick and tired of hearing everybody complain about the HD TV situation. This team is horrible. Are they gonna look any better in HD? You want to see them get smacked in HD? Just like the minor league team they are they deserve to be on a crappy minor league SD channel.

  402. avatar 1since40 says:

@ #383, that’s rich! DP couldn’t a beachball on Christmas Day and my kid skates & carries the puck better than JT.

Guess we are all a bit pissed off after this performance, on the road at Philly AGAIN!

Tell ya what though, did NOT see anyone on the ice react with some balls other than DP wanting to go with Cirrillo.

Gervais, Hunter, Weight, Martinek, Sim. Can anyone here tell what the powers to be saw here to warrant these players still on the team.

2 dmen and two forwards that are liabilities. Martin and Nino, DeHann and Harmonic IN and those stiffs OUT!

Team would of had Gillies, Zman, and even though Matt Martin is only a kid, 3 very capable to “police” things out for the rest of the youngsters and team.

Not to mention Yobo only a phone call away.

Still early, but with the rash of injuries and the ship starting to take on water after the great start, could be an early downward spiral.

It really hurts to see how this team is run, from the top right to the ice. Why didn’t Gordo call a time out after going down 2 zip with all the negative intangibles heading into this game???!!!

I wonder how many games Briere will get, with that decapitation attempt on Franz from our good pal Colin Campbell?????

Enough for now. Thanks for the release CB..

  403. avatar Rich M says:

    CB,

I know you addressed the DP situation in an earlier post. But this clearly is on every Islander fan’s mind. Rollie is clearly better, Dp has a GAA under .895. What is going on here? DP needs to be the backup unless he can prove himself. What other profession does the inferior worker be the CEO. This is clearly the case here. This is your blog but you need to address the situation that is the 5000 lb elephant in the room. Do people understand that a soft goal at 1-0 which makes it 2-0 deflates a fragile-less talented team. It quickly translates to a 6-1 loss. Soft goals rips the heart out of the team. It’s not about the D or not scoring. The team does not have faith in DP in net. This could get really ugly. I would say most of the people on this site are “die hards”. If more than half the comments are about DP, don’t you think it needs to be adressed. We come here for your opinion. CB we need it.

  404. avatar cjcb says:

Love Konopka, Gilles, and Martin! Now if we could lose Sim, Gervais, Dead-Weight, Hillen, Hunter, and DP and replace them with some more hungry talent from Bridgeport!! Come on bring up Hamonic already!! Speaking of Jackman anyone see his fight against Liffiton? Jackman takes some heavy bombs!! Thank god we got rid of him.

  405. avatar jakeisles says:

If Briere does not get 10 games it is an absoulute joke. The league is cracking down on head shot and this little pos swings his stick as hard as he can across Nielsen’s head – WHERE IS THE OUTCRY

  406. avatar jimmy says:

doug weight is our main problem…

  407. avatar Big Dally Mac says:

To me if we can stick around .500 till about Christmas…then we can start getting some bodies back and maybe make a run at it. This isn’t the end of the world. Last year we would have gotten ponded on the scoreboard and physically. At least they put up a fight this time at the end.

  408. avatar bayduvinislander says:

DP’s 3.75 GAA and .867 SP over 6 games is totally unacceptable, send him to Bridgeport and bring up Poulin! DP sucks. Everybody knows it. Everybody.

  409. avatar Julie says:

I get the rage towards Dipietro, and I don’t think he ever would have been more than a very good goalie. It’s not his fault he was drafted too high (Milbury had a preference for New England players, and was overly impressed by his puckhandling skill), or that we gave Luongo away, or that Wang gave him a lifetime deal on a silver platter. Would YOU have turned that down??

That said, it’s obvious that despite his desperate desire to prove himself worthy, the injuries have taken their toll. There’s no questioning his heart and determination, but the body’s just not willing.

If I’m not mistaken, insurance covers the 5 highest-paid players if they are forced to retire due to injury. CB, could you confirm that?

Barring that, I’d seriously consider sending him to Bridgeport to either work him back into game shape, or let him be a star at the AHL level.

  410. avatar islanderfan39 says:

Everyone relax I’m gonna look at it this way by the time we get okposo back if were only 6 points out that’s good. If striet comesback in early march and we are in the 4 to 8 point range for the last 3 spots then we have a great chance. Honrstly people it was 5 games into the season and people were going crazy 1st place isles. Relax were gonna be ok and let’s go islanders

  411. avatar rayy says:

i dont understand you guys. The defense plays horrible, and STILL everything is DP’s fault. And no, everybody knows he is very good. You all just hate the guy for your own reasons. Because hes not the guy you want. And roli is totally better…hes been a backup his whole career! he was signed to be a backup for biron. he doesnt even have 200 wins and he is 41. You really gotta stop with this DP stuff….and actually 399..in 06’07 they were just as good…and he won this year against him. So stop being so ignorant. Give DP time, you all give up to quick

  412. avatar brooklyn george says:

Well said #367. We throw our big guys out there and the refs and league punish the Isles with these unheard of penalties on only one team and let the other slide. Never seen this before. Unbelievable. This new NHL is really turning me off to the game.

  413. avatar ed says:

look we are never gonna win a stanley cup with a 41 year old in net either..so we all just gotta chill and accept DP for now. if he is still doin bad by December…then AHL he goes. they said early this year he isnt gonna give his best performances. its been 6 games. And the entire team stinks, not just him. Wait, people….wait! the guy isnt gonna get a shutout every game

  414. avatar Sandy says:

No. 410 – you gotta be kidding?!? Sure, the defense was not great, but at least 2 goals were totally Ricky’s – not to mention that was VERY lucky that the Philly forwards missed a couple of opportunities where he was out of position or already on his knees. Not to mention the ridiculous falldown with an opponent pressuring him.

And about Rollie: He was No. 1 in Edmonton, and he is playing better than DP at the moment, hands down. That’s why people want to see him.

    Another high draft pick awaits!

  416. avatar ed says:

Its so early in the season. He can come back. IF it was roli youd be trashing him too. dont give me that bs

  417. avatar vvv says:

okay? he was #1 with the oilers….sucked in the stanley cup tho. DP isnt the worst ever. Tommy Salo was worse. Joey Mac was worse. I can go on and on

  418. avatar fgb says:

Roli can have a bad game, and you all back him. DP has a bad game, your out to kill him. To hard on this guy. Way to harsh

  419. avatar Sandy says:

Yes, I would be trashing Roli too, correct. If a player plays like crap, I bash him. And I’m also not saying Macdonald or Salo were better, all I’m saying is:

Rick Di Pietro is obviously not in NHL shape, so he should not get games. And I do question if he will ever be the same old…. big questionmark…

  420. avatar ed says:

you really got to stop being so harsh. I remember what he was. Gordon knows how he can be. So to ALL. There is no use ranting. He isnt going anywhere. And there is NOTHING any of you can do about it. and CB knows it too. So deal with it, or dont watch games

  421. avatar ed says:

The guy as a person is a real jerk…no joke! He is not a good person. And I really dont care for him as much as a person. But the team means more than anything to me! And if gordon believes its the right thing, im gonna stand behind DP, always. And I’ve seen DP at his best. So as a player, I dont mind. The stats are normal for a guy coming off of injuries. All *IM* saying is that you gotta look at the big picture accept for past 3 years. I think people are more angry at him for getting injured. Because deep down, you know how much we needed him. And he let us down by doing dumb moves, and have gordon bring in joey mac who did bad. Whats done is done, and if we dont stand behind EVERY player. We will never win a cup again

  422. avatar SCLI says:

OK here’s what obvious to me. DP? Cant move laterally anymore. He cant get up once he’s on the ice and he’s always on the ice. He hasnt learned to stay in the crease or at least pick his spots to wander. He is completely lost when the opposition provides any kind of screen. My solution. Instead of handing points away. Waive DP, NOW. NO ONE WILL CLAIM HIM. Send him to Bridgeport to try and reclaim some sort of resemblance to an NHL GOALIE. Right now DP has become an embarrassment and is costing this team any chance to get a win. Weight is a turnover machine and cant win a FO to save his life. Comeau and Baily are constantly being moved around and are having difficulty getting comfortable with line mates. Gordon is looking desperate and clueless at times. Isles are getting dangerously close to self destruction. Its a shame since there is talent on this team.

  423. avatar Sandy says:

Well I do hope he goes into retirment, or to the bench. Just my 2 cents. OR: He picks up his game and I would be fine with him, I just don’t see it happening…

  424. avatar THE PORK CHOP EXPRESS says:

Agreed worst game of the season. You can see the difference with a team of size and skill and team with young talent. Physically they cannot win that battle. I have to admit the philly goalie played a heck of a game. the score could have been closer. The team needs to go back to basics in the defensive zone. too many times two players go to one player and leave the other guy alone (i.e. Carter’s goal with the stick in the legs). It is a young team and we will hopefully grow. Bruno and Hillen have missed so many games I cannot blame them for being off mark. they have not played real game action and are behind the eight ball. Now for the good stuff. campbell will give hunter 2 games for a legal hit and the same for brier while carcillo gets nothing. Can someone tell me why brier should not be given the same suspension as simon on holliweg or hunter on turgeron? this was premediated attemp to injure!! carcillo must have known as well because he did the same. at least in the case of simon, holliweg went to him and he reacted with the stick up. brier should get 20. also the refs totally blew this one. carcillo should have been tossed with Z. can’t take goons off of one team and leave the other team’s on the ice.

  425. avatar beeenn says:

    arent*

  426. avatar isles71 says:

How can a team look like such World Beaters for a 6 game stretch and like totally uninspired the next 5??? I want soooo much to believe because the kool-aid tastes sooo damn good!!!! The next 5 games makes or breaks season…we don’t get points in 4 out of 5 then 28 win team at best and that is sad.

  427. avatar dose says:

of all the bad games we’ve seen over the last 175 years, that one may have been the overall worst to take, and most disgusting. even the 9-0 and 8-1 games somehow weren’t as bad as this was. in every possible way. for the first time i’m starting to have doubts about the coach. this rebuilding process is supposed to be two steps forward, one step back, not the other way around. i expect bumps in the road, but that game – the last 4 really – have shown a steady and hard to fathom progression downward. injuries do not explain it. something else is not right. if things don’t change for the better soon, the g.m. will be forced to do something to change them. who knows what, but SOMETHING.

  428. avatar jim says:

411 what does age have to do with it? Its performance not age that means everything.

  429. avatar pete says:

This team is the walking wounded/dead and you all expect them to win night in and night out? Lets get healthy first. In the mean time enjoy another hi pick in the draft

  430. avatar Swan says:

11 games into the season and “in the mean enjoy another hi pick in the draft”.

    Are you kidding me?

  431. avatar jim says:

Lets face it, Isles fans have been patient. We have been a losing franchise for how many years now.
? It shows that the NVMC is empty even when they offer tix at only $20 a piece. Fans will be patent for a while, but then you have to put a good product on the Ice. Garth has done a good job with some UFA’s but we only go after very low priced players that no other teams want. It’s like getting picked last in Gym class.

  432. avatar Swan says:

The same defensive corp plays in front of DP and Roloson. It doesn’t play worse in front when DP is in the net vs when Rolo starts.

The comparing who is the better of the two goalies is easy. Age is irrelevant to the conversation.

  433. avatar rob76 says:

If Carcillo doesn’t get suspended I will have lost all faith in the NHL. His hit on Frans was plain Dirty to begin with. On top of that he slashed Ricky seconds later in the back of the leg as the brawl ensued – look at the replay

  434. avatar fass16 says:

A morning after, time to relax, thought about this team- DP isn’t horrible, but he certainly isn’t up to form and should probably be the #1 in the bridge for a while until he gets his game back (no one will claim him!) We need weight on this team, BUT not on the powerplay point or taking away center from Bailey! I can’t count how many times Weight has been blown by at the point and he is zero threat of a shot from there making them totally predictable on the pp. And it is hugely noticable how much better was at center with Comeu on his wing. both players haven’t been th same since the separation and that has hurt te Isles BIG TIME. And get Bailey back on the PP. When Tavares was out, this was Bailey’s team, he needs that confidence boost again and that will ultimately help this team and him out. I appreciate Weight and his role, but he should not be taking Center minutes away from our future!!
