ROB SCHREMP OUT 3-4 WEEKS
Back injury sidelines playmaking center

by Chris Botta on October 4th, 2010 at 12:21 pm

12:20 pm, NVMC: The Islanders have announced that Rob Schremp will be sidelined 3-4 weeks with a back injury. The center suffered the injury when he took a cross-check to the back during the second period of the Islanders’ exhibition game in New Jersey on Friday. After practice, Scott Gordon acknowledged that the improved health and strong play of veteran playmaking center Doug Weight should lessen the blow of Schremp’s absence. Schremp was walking around the Coliseum this morning, uncomfortably to say the least. Another big loss for the Islanders. Comments.

Is this the punchline to the joke “What if Rick DiPietro stays healthy?”

  2. avatar Andy says:

It didn’t make sense initially, having so many prospects and invitees… “There’ll never be enough room!” I thought.

    …touché, Garth.

  3. avatar Justin Marques says:

It has reached a point where it is just so sad that it’s funny. Absolutely ridiculous.

  4. avatar Vive la Poutine! says:

Another injury … Why am I not surprised?

  5. avatar Isles16 says:

    And the beat goes on……

  6. avatar hockeytime says:

    I laughed once…now i just cry.

  7. avatar Eric Cup says:

    2-4 weeks – UGH!

  8. avatar PotvinRocks says:

Bummer I really like Schremp and I was hoping that he’d benefit from PP time due to the injury to Okposo. With a back they say 2-4 weeks, but could easily be 4-6 weeks.

  9. avatar yashin for president says:

Injuries happen. Get over it. every team has them.

  10. avatar Priest says:

Another big loss indeed. We’ve had some tough luck in preseason so far. Maybe the fact that guys could only play 3 games is a good thing… Less time to get hurt. Of course, it could also be a contributing factor if players are pushing themselves too hard too fast.

In any case, I’m glad (and I’m sure Rob is too) that Schremp has a roster spot to return to this year. Same injury last year and who knows if he wouldve cracked the lineup.

  11. avatar Dan says:

Garth just called Mike Bossy to see if he can still play.. Yikes, this will be a long season.

  12. avatar Mike says:

looks like the Isles found a new role for Trots with the organization – second line center

  13. avatar Brian G says:

    When it rains it pours

And with the 1st pick in the 2011 draft the New York Islanders Select….

  14. avatar Staten Islander says:

Hopefully 2 and not 4. Looking forward to Robbie Schremp hockey

  15. avatar Lawrence Teller says:

How is the loss of Rob Schremp (44 GP, 7 G, 18A) a “big loss for the Islanders? Sure – it would have been nice to see him develop and become a full-time starter – but he is not.

  16. avatar mrlbem says:

Is it more likely that they put in a claim for Grabner now?

  17. avatar valentino says:

How sad is it when the loss of Rob Schremp is a “big loss” to your franchise?

  18. avatar isles316 says:

My buddy at work just said they are the “Mets on Ice.” Kinda true.

  19. avatar beatlebailey says:

thinking the same thing…no offense to Rob Schremp and we hope he heals asap but a marginal 3rd line talent so far in his career so not be a big loss..oh well..at least he can sit in the box at the coli my seats are so bad there are nails sticking out of the cushions..lol

  20. avatar Stumpy32 says:

Can we all step back from the ledge? It’s comic relief when the most apocolyptic of us look at the loss of Rob Schremp as the end of the Isles world.

  21. avatar Hockey1919 says:

Have to agree with many of the posts here. This is a big loss for the development of Rob Schremp as a hockey player, but his direct impact on the Island is still TBD.

  22. avatar George Isle fan from Dyker Heights says:

Yashin for pres. Injuries do happen I’ll agree, but not like this to a team playing in preseason. At this rate when the season starts and the real hitting and big boys come out to play, we should not have a hockey team left. Show me another team that has gone down like us.

  23. avatar Oye Comeau Va says:

Get well soon. This provides the in for Nino to show what he can do for 9 games (given that he is not injured). That should be plenty of time for Schremp to recover.

  24. avatar Eric Cup says:

It’s not that anyone thought Schremp would put up huge numbers – He’s another young player on the improve that we want to see on the ice. He’s still developing and to start the season hurt for 2-4 weeks doesn’t help. He showed us some real potential last year and I liked what I saw. This was his first real opportunity in the NHL. I can’t beleive it’s 2-4 weeks – sounds worse than just back spasms.

  25. avatar Tony F. says:

It’s a big loss because he’s one of our best shoot out threats. This team is cursed, something is buried under the ice at the old barn.

  26. avatar Ajax says:

To all of those asking how Shremp is “a big loss” .. he becomes “a big loss” when we already have injuries to so many key players. At this point an injury to Sim would be a big loss where an injury to JT would be “HUGE”

  27. avatar Mark In Ottawa says:

    Great – More good news.

    What a year we’re gonna have …

  28. avatar pdebenedetto says:

things happen for a reason…..de Haan,Nino, show them what you got kid.

  29. avatar Spartiarti RVC says:

agree, if weight healthy, Schremp will not be missed. Also schremp needs to play center to do well.

  30. avatar Jeff in NH says:

I like the looks of Grabner, go claim him Garth!!!!

  31. avatar doggyondown says:

“A Man Stares Into the Abyss and sees nothing but darkness, this is the time that he finds his character. And it is his character, that keeps him from falling into the abyss.”

  32. avatar shlo says:

It is not a big loss, just a loss of a half way decent player. It’s only one month. He’ll be missed maybe on shootouts. Someone else will step up….

  33. avatar The Franchise says:

#1 Pick here we come, BAZINGA!!!!!!

  34. avatar Ethan K says:

He’s the player I’m most excited to see this season, so this injury hurts. Good news is that we have Tavares, Bailey, Weight, Nielsen, and Konopka as well, so this isn’t a major blow. Hopefully he heals up fast and comes back with the same play that he was showing at the end of last season.

  35. avatar Jon says:

in all seriousness, who is exprected to go in the top #3 come the 2011 draft. can we start the discussion now??? too early??

  36. avatar Brian G says:

Anyway the Isles take a flyer on a guy like Owen Nolan or Brendan Morrison? 1 year 500k

  37. avatar Steve M says:

#36, I hope so, maybe even Grabner would be nice.

  38. avatar rb says:

So Schremp “suffered the injury when he took a cross-check to the back during the second period of the Islanders’ exhibition game in New Jersey on Friday.”

Is somebody gonna crush a Devil for this? Hey Motteau, you wanna show you belong? Get to it next time Devils are at NVMC.

And by the way, somebody better run a Hab first time in too.

  39. avatar Lance79 says:

This is really as if Ricky found the monkey’s paw and wished for being healthy all year.

That aside CB is right, Weight looking good means we shouldn’t suffer that badly. About the only positive in this is that Bailey now has absolutely no excuses to start slow seeing how there’s nobody ahead of him on the depth chart.

  40. avatar jfnisles says:

While Schremp is out, bring back Mcammond , cut Sim and Hilbert

  41. avatar geduffer says:

Maybe they should have kept Yabo up here to deal with guys who take liberties with our guys.

  42. avatar Steve says:

Can’t believe that the Isles are so unlucky with injuries this season. Hope that Robbie comes back ASAP.

  43. avatar Orange&Blue says:

This injury pretty much insures EL NINO’s arrival to Long Island. With both Okposo and Schremp out, we will need all the talent we can find. That does not start with Hilbert and Sim. It starts with EL NINO!!!!!!!

  44. avatar 27Tonelli says:

    Softest team in NHL !

  45. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

I’ve never seen a team in any sport with so many injuries before the season even starts. All teams get injuries…during the season!

  46. avatar 50 in 50 says:

    Here we go again….
