STREIT SURGERY SUCCESSFUL; EARLY RETURN?
Plus: Bruno Gervais’ message to Quebec City

by Chris Botta on October 2nd, 2010 at 11:13 am

11:15 am, NVMC: There is a report out of Switzerland that Mark Streit has already undergone successful shoulder surgery at the Cleveland Clinic and there is optimism for a return in February. This would not be a total shock because teams often cautiously over-estimate a player’s return so it’s a bonus if he returns “early.” The Islanders have not made an announcement yet on Streit’s prognosis.

Matt Martin skated today, but has a bone bruise on his foot and is out for tonight’s game. So is Rob Schremp (back spasms), who will be replaced by Doug Weight. Rick DiPietro starts in goal.

Here is a video message from Bruno Gervais (in French) to the people of Quebec City before the Islanders’ split-squad flew there this afternoon:

Comments. More later.

  4. avatar KevnH says:

Lets hope they dont rush him back. Great news if its true!

  5. avatar Little G says:

Send KO to Switzerland for his surgery by the same doctor then. May we’d have the Beast back in November.

  6. avatar admin says:

    (5) No one is saying he had his surgery in Switzerland. The report came from a news source in Switzerland.

    (3) Plan right now is to sit with my laptop in the stands…CB

  7. avatar Billy the Kid says:

He had his surgery in Switzerland, or they are reporting on him?
I thought he went to the guy who did Dougie’s shoulder in Cleveland Clinic.

  8. avatar Islesphan25 says:

CB…I will be there too…Hope we will run into each other…

I guess I will look for a guy sitting in the stands with a laptop….

I will buy you a drink

  9. avatar Staten Islander says:

Great news about Streit, I hope it happens. How do you say “Bruno stinks at hockey” in french?

  10. avatar cm2747 says:

i hope this is the last time i see bruno around this team this year…unless he’s wearing his chefs hat

  11. avatar Martin the french Canadian says:

Hey Chris, you are here in Quebec city today ?

  12. avatar Greg says:

    poutine avant le match?

That will definitely slow bruno down.

  13. avatar Pete says:

Hey, at least Bruno lost his baby face. He looks more like a man now. So maybe he’ll play hockey like a man instead of a baby.

Anyway, is Nathan Lawson still in this organization? He hasn’t played in one pre-season game.

  14. avatar Russel Ginart says:

Pete #13, you are right, I don’t recall Nathan Lawson playing at all yet.

CB is he still in the NYI system? If so why has he not played yet?

  15. avatar Rombough says:

    13 & 14:
I believe Lawson (and Poulin) are injured.
He’s still in the organeyezation. With Koski having a good camp, it looks like one of the two will be tending nets somewhere other than The Bridge.

  16. avatar Brother Rat says:

Pete/13 – haha, I had the same thought about Bruno when he was talking. Looks like his cojones have dropped. CB, why didn’t you get an Anglo-Canadian to speak to the Saskatoon fans in Canadian English? You coulda had a guy riff on their texas mickeys, gorbies, and double-doubles.

  17. avatar ny711ot says:

any chance bruno can miss the return flight?

  18. avatar Viper says:

Great interview with Bruno, CB. From all of your Quebec home grown fans, thank you. You are the best.
