Scott Gordon on Josh Bailey, Blake Comeau, Mike Mottau, his team’s good start and facing the Capitals on Wednesday.
Mike Mottau speaks with SNY Point Blank about his first weeks as an Islander and the challenges of facing Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby this week.
As expected and as per lone Islanders road reporter Katie Strang of Newsday, Dwayne Roloson makes his first start in goal. Jack Hillen is in for the suspended James Wisniewski. Thank you to Jeff Goldman and Jason Potere of SNY for their work on the videos.

So with Roloson getting the start tonight it looks like he’ll be getting two of the next three games. I doubt they’ll play DiPietro in back to backs Friday in Pittsburgh and Saturday vs. Colorado. While I want to see DiPietro play and return to starter status its important to keep Roloson fresh in case of another injury. Looks like they’ll split time.

Happy to see Rollie in there tonight and one of the back-to-back games this weekend. I feared DP going up against such a quick and talented offense, so having Rollie suit up gives this depleted team more of a chance for an upset.
Can’t wait to see how Hillen plays. Hopefully he can show he’s better than Jurcina.

The problem with Hillen in is he doesn’t bring what Wiz does and neither does anyone else on the Isles roster. I would have preferred Hamonic for the 2 games and stuck Hillen in for Jurcina or Mac D. Isles simply need a ton more big physical d-men and dump many of the small puck movers because Hamonic and Wiz can move the puck just as good or better then the rest anyway. Isles probably cannot bring someone up without going over roster limit.
Hoping for a good game tonight, this season has been better to watch already.

Wow, Uncanny resemblance to Tavares. If the Isles can pull off a few points tonight, I will know they are the real deal and not just playing on adrenaline because of the start of the season. Bailey and commeau look like stars! Hope they can keep it up, they are truly fun to watch!

I’ll grant that Hillen doesn’t bring the physicality that Wiz brings, but he is a better defender and will get the puck back up the ice in a hurry. No, he does not replace Wiz, but he is a far site better than Jurcina in so many ways. Jurcina has a hard time using his body because he is so slow and lumbering. I hope Hillen can prove to Gordon tonight he is a top 6 (which I think he can). That last statement is ironic considering Hillen was a top 2-3 in minutes most of last year.

I’m Digging the suit, CB. I am happy Hillen is getting back into the line up. We lost a lot of toughness on D with Wiz suspended but Hillen blocks Ovechkin shots with his face so he deserves to be playing tonight. Nice job on the interviews.

Good interviews … I’m digging the new format. Kinda what I was hoping for.
This may be wishful thinking but it would be great if SNY could get a tv circuit over to Iceworks so you can send canned media with a coach’s daily presser from some sort of a mini-press room for TV and print interviews. I know the Jets have an awesome setup at their practice facility for SNY.
I know. Small facility. Baby steps.
CB – How do you think Hillen matches up against the Caps going in cold tonight?

Jim Clark says: Correct move in giving Roloson the start tonight even though DiPietro is our number one goalie. Too bad DP falls just short of breaking Glenn Hall’s record of 502 consecutive starts. But he has plenty of time left in his contract to break Mr Goalie’s record.

It’ll be interesting to see if Hillen shy’s away from the Ovechkin/Backstron(Volchenkov) slapshots tonight. Sometime’s when a guy experiences an injury like that he is never the same in those types of situations.

Alllright, CB’s got the SNY mike and has graduated to suits! Lookin’ good! No more interviews in zipper sweaters and fleeces. Someone get CB Don Cherry’s tailor’s info… Anyway, it is good to see more tangible results of the SNY affiliation, which brings even more legitimacy and–hopefully–permanency to IPB. My expectations are set fairly low for the Wash and Pitt games, so let’s just hope the kids can keep the energy up, the mistakes down, and the shots on Roli few. I’ll take 0 points and 0 injuries almost as much as I’ll take 4 points at this point.

Gordon was right on about rolling with any of his three defensive pairings. He may have a soft reputation, but I saw Jurcina hitting and engaging in every play against the Rangers. Proof? I’m watching the game for the 4th time. Amazing that arguably their second best defenseman last year, Hillen, can’t crack the lineup except for the Wiz suspension.

Glad to see Hillen get the nod instead of Bruno Grvais. And to post #22 IslanderFan, pretty silly comment since Roloson was our best and most consistent player last year. Actually think we have more of a chance playing Roli tonite than DP. Go Isles!!!!

Have not had chance to post to either gmaes so far, but in short love the new tougher version of the Islanders! 1st two games were a blast and its easily the best Isles/Rags games in two + years. Wiz is assume and i love the edge he brings this team and has been a HUGE surprise for me, Andy Sutton who? It took 3 years for Sutton to do what Wiz did in two games!! Keep up the hard work, keep grinding, and keep playing tough!! Lets Go Islanders!!!

CB, I usually am able to see videos thru my iPhone but All I see is a blank space for the sny ones. Is it in a different format? Either way keep up the good work I religiously check this site during class. I need my islanders fix
