  1. avatar Andre Legault says:

    Nice job Chris.

Many many thanks for what you do for us Islanders fans…

  2. avatar PotvinRocks says:

It’s funny that you mention the Islanders not being able to retain some of the young talent they developed or in Josh Bailey’s case, undeveloped. Because the other day Marek and Elliot Freidman where talking about Tavares and how if the misery continues he could hold out in hopes for an offer sheet. Stuff like this makes me paranoid that I’m going to be looking around the league at our talent on other teams.
Furthermore, good teams exploit bad teams flaws. This is why San Jose doesn’t appear as good as they were in years past. The Islanders have to be competive within their division, other wise there will be plenty of high draft picks in the Islanders system.
I also agree with you. GM’s don’t get fired. Look how long Slats has lasted.

  3. avatar Drive 4 Five says:

20 minutes everytime..it shows you can have a half an hour show and leave room for commercials. Come on SNY should give you a show on TV.
I would give my left n*t to have parise on this team. Please dont tease us like that.
    -Good Stuff CB!

  4. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

Your statement that Snow will still be the GM in 2015 is quite depressing.

  5. avatar Uncle Deuce says:

If I were Garth Snow, I’d see if Boston wants to make a deal… ahhhh.

  6. avatar Brian G says:

Chris thanks again for taking my call

As far as the excuse for Wang & Snow that their 2 best players Okposo & Streit are injuried…that’s not an excuse every team has injuries…and to prove a point, look how good we did with both of them last year…we got the 5th pick in the draft…now this year we will get another top 5 pick. I like Okposo but he has never even had a 20 goal season…its the same roster as last year except for 2 guys.

The problem is spending money on an NHL Roster, so you don’t have to rush kids to the NHL and depend on them to have huge roles on the team…and the person making decisions(Snow) on spending the money on Free agents, Is horrible at choosing the right players to sign….just like the way Gordon was fired/Reassigned….Snow should have some consequences…he has done a bad job…A Gm needs to give the coaching staff the best possible chance to win games, I’m sorry but he has NOT.

  7. avatar Numbers65 in Ohio says:

You are doing fine without the credentials. It would be great if you got them back, but I don’t mind if you interview any opponents, Rangers or not. These SNY sets with Brian, along with your interviews and phone are really good. Thanks!

  8. I want to go to one of the next few games but I’m still struggling with spending money on them. I hope management has a plan. I hope the players are figuring it out.

This was great though. Same for BCompton’s prospect review. At least I feel good about that..

  9. avatar Themass says:

You want suggestions on how to make these better? Make them longer. I’m pretty sure everyone else here can’t get enough. Just think you’re taking calls in the middle of the day when people with most jobs can’t call in. This is very early potential that can hopefully turn into serious coverage of the team on SNY.

  10. avatar chim says:

i’d do anything to keep this tema on LI. Been working there 13 trs and hav seen more ups than downs. With that said therer is still a lot of god hockey to be played in the ol’ barn….I love how chris brought up the 2001-2002 season…hey news flash…decent product on the ice winning = bodies in the seats.

  11. avatar Jim Clark says:

DP with a 1.96 GAA in his last three games! Could it be he’s finally shaken the rust off and returned to All-Star form?

  12. avatar chim says:

could be Jim…free parking for u next game u go to hit me up

  13. avatar Derek A says:

Well done, so glad this will be a weekly installment on the blog.

    Will Harmonic stick?

  14. avatar James Benson says:

the most annoying part about the parise talks, and how the devils might not be able to afford him is that he could be on our team right now..we took some nielsson kid over parise who isnt in the NHL anymore

  15. avatar Flal says:

    Great job CB

I was curious, do other teams actually start a checking line against the Isles, or do they see we really have no top line, and not worry about stopping the opposition?

  16. avatar Bob E. says:

Parise in Isles Uniform on top Line with Tavares. all i can say is WOW.

I agree with Brian, Winning fills in seats. Plain and simple.

Isles Mgt should give all current season ticket holders free extra tickets to bring friends to game. This would help you season ticket holder not feeled betrayed that people buying same tickets on stubhub for fraction of price.

  17. avatar sign guy says:

In all fairness DP has had some rotten luck through his entire time spent with Isles. Bad teams combined with whole sale changes in personal and health issues. He could be turning the tide.

  18. avatar Mike B says:

Whatever any of you do-do not go to any games nor give any of your hard earned money to Wang/Snow. Don’t be enablers! Wang/Snow must learn the consequences of their horrible actions and conduct-particularly how they mistreat their few remaining loyal fans and even more particularly how they mistreat CB. They don’t deserve you CB and it would be great if you found suitable employment covering another team that actually cherishes their fan base and would appreciate your unwavering loyalty.

  19. avatar Archibold Cox says:

Mike B., #18, is right. Stop giving them our money.
I keep looking at tickets available, wanting to go, but come to my senses and refuse.
Maybe when CB gets credentials back. Don’t waste the money and support Snow.

  20. avatar Styles15 says:

I was very interested to hear your thoughts CB about the free agency market. I also believe that JT and Okposo are not going anywhere soon. However, what about players like Moulson and Wiz? They have been two solid additions that could play a role on a winning team provided we add a few more quality players. After the start to this season, I would not be surprised at all to see Moulson and Wiz head out the door for a better situation. I do not think money is the issue either. The isles could offer them monster contracts and they would still want to hit the road. Ryan Smyth is a perfect example of this problem. How do we convince quality players like Wiz and Moulson to stick around?

  21. avatar The New Isles GM says:

Guys, I know some of you may think Snow is in over his head but the real problem here is not Snow, it’s Wang! I have friends who work for the organization that know people who have left the organization because they said they “have never seen it this bad”. People who were considered to be lifers, people with families and houses, left in November because of Charles’ ways. I’m sure Snow would love to throw an offer sheet at Stamkos this summer if he was allowed, but that’s just not going to happen. We’re only two months in…let’s see how the rest of the year plays out. We get Okposo back in a month, maybe less if he’s feeling good. I’m all for winning, but I’m not against getting one more highly touted draft pick since noone wants to sign here…

  22. avatar Cold Spring Harbor says:

We would have about ten more points if 50% of our shots actually were on net. Power play needs someone other than PA hanging around the face off circle.

  23. avatar The New Isles GM says:

    To number 16,

My last post, I promise CB.

If Wang and Snow really want to make a statement to the league, fanbase and team, they must give Parise whatever it is to push Lou out. He’s the perfect fit for this team. American, hardworking, gritty speedster with great hands. That will do wonders for Tavares.

Also, if I’m Parise – I’m thinking do I really want to stay with the Devils? Brodeur is just about finished, the vets aren’t pulling their weight anymore and the defense is depleted. I would be thinking about jumping ship and onto a team on the rise like The Islanders or Colorado. Hopefully Islanders…

  24. avatar UIF says:

Styles – Imo, the secret with re-signing players like Wiz and Moulson is to try to do it early. Gauge their interest in January (I think that’s when you can start negotiating?). Give them a fair offer, and if they re-sign, great. If they don’t, and if it doesn’t look like anything short of the moon will get them to stay, then at least the Isles find out now and can move them for something rather than finding out on July 1 and losing them for nothing. I think Moulson would stay with a fair offer, considering the Isles gave him his shot to stick in the league. Not sure about Wiz.

  25. avatar shlo says:

Enjoyed the segment. Isles should right the wrong Milbury did and go hard after Parise.
I doubt he’ll sign here, but Snow should make Parise’s decision a tough one.

  26. avatar Mikamakela says:

Parise an islander? As soon as Derek meter n mo Rivera sign with the pirates. Moulson n whizz won’t fit into payroll next season because the payroll ain’t going up. It simply can’t happen. The only people left buying season tickets are the fans that are comfortable with losing.

  27. avatar Steve says:

Great show Chris. With the Islanders showing their interactions with the Mets more than Mangano’s desires to keep the team in Nassau on the Islander’s website, I am not so sure if Charles really wants to keep the team within Nassau County.

  28. avatar PotvinRocks says:

Yeah I like the Parise talk but I seriously doubt Snow has the nerve to offer sheet him. The Islanders are going to have the buyouts of Yashin and Witt come off the books this off season so they wont be able to ice a team 10 million under the salary cap the way they are right now (Yashin, Witt, Streit, and Okposo). So reguardless of the Parise offer sheet they will have to spend serious money. I don’t think resigning Okposo, Bailey and Wisniewski is going to take us to the salary cap floor.

  29. avatar Matt from Fair Lawn says:

As an NJ Devils fan I know how it feels to mocked. Particularly by arrogent Rags and boorish Cryers fans. Mike F. can be as inmature as he wants. The radio personality he is pretending to be is very apparent. I truely feel sorry for you.
I feel the Islanders situation can be alot worse from an ownship standpoint. At least he wants to own the team and has absorbed years of losing millions of dollars. Regardless of his motives, at least he seems sincere in wanting to keep the team on LI.

  30. avatar Andrew says:

Now taking donations for travel to LI and game tickets. Islanders Luck Fund.

  31. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

CB — Great call in show … Thanks to you and Brian for a great moderation of the questions.

The more time ticks on the less I personally desire the Isles to stay in Nassau, and the more I’d like to see the Isles move to Queens. Especially if the 7 train goes into NJ.

I also think more and more that SNY is the perfect venue for the Islanders … it seems natural with the Mets and Jets having a huge footprint on that network.

As far as the building situation goes as posed by callers … I commented in another thread about my friend attending last Friday’s game … and as a Sabre / Canuck fan … He admits that the building is outdated … but he thorougly enjoyed the game he saw between the Devils and Islanders and said he wouldn’t hesitate to go again … His biggest complaint was the prices (except for his $15 lower bowl stub hub tickets)… and he understands Islander fans frustraition with high prices for the product they put on the ice.

On a side note: He has seen DP get 4 shutouts in the 5 games he’s seen him play live. I am trying to convince him to go to more Isles games. LOL!

  32. avatar Phil says:

Who cares if they mock the Islanders? It is just words. Toughen up.

  33. avatar ClarkGillies says:

Botta great job with the show and keeping it professional in terms of how Garth is mistreating you. You are a better man than I , as I would take every oppurtunity to call him out on what a horrific job he has done. I am not only speaking in terms of assembling a team but how he has no clue about being a GM. He does not talk to the press, absolutely no public relations , very sad. He actually had the audacity to ban the only reporter capable of keeping the real fanbase engaged, to get a spot on SNY , etc. Please I hope he is not here in 2015 , go back to being pummeled by Steve Shields you clown.

  34. avatar joemomma says:

Please let them mock us, at least they know the Islanders still exist, cause a lot of us are slowly forgetting about them.

  35. avatar peter debenedetto says:

    Parise an Islander….book it!

  36. avatar sign guy says:

My Question CB is why Charles Wang has so much faith in Garth Snow and would keep him GM till 1015?? Snow has not done a very good job so far.

  37. avatar admin says:

Folks: for the last two days, the PB comments section has been invaded by one stalker who first pretended to be WFAN hosts and now tries to respond to his own nonsense by creating other false IDs and IP numbers. Sad person, to have that much time on their hands. In time, it will be dealt with. For now, please ignore. Sorry for the hassle…CB

  38. avatar joemomma says:

The hacker is propbably Wang and Snow

  39. avatar rpchief2 says:

The best thing for the rebuild is we trade Wiznewski. I was excited when we got him, but for the money he makes No thanks. He shanks atleast 5 shots a game and he is not good in his own zone. There was a reason the hawks and ducks gave up on him. Maybe get a prospect or 2nd round pick for him. getting ride of roloson would not be bad idea either. And not at the deadline. Like last years mess with biron. These guys are tradeable assets.

  40. avatar Styles15 says:

I have no problem with Devils and Flyer fans reading the blog and even expressing their opinions about islanders hockey. However, carry on your devils vs flyers debate elsewhere. This blog is for islander fans to debate and raise issues about the status of the team. If you want to talk devils vs flyers, go elsewhere.

To UIF- I agree that the best time to sign UFA’s will be in early January. However, I believe what is more important, is convincing players that they have a shot to win here. No one, even guys getting paid 3 mil, want to play for a consistently poor team. I think a first, and major step for the islanders would be to bring in a coach with serious credentials. While we may not have the best personnel on the ice, a coach can cultivate our talent and lure in quality veterans who may be interested in playing for a program which is actively interested in putting together a winner. Players like Wiz, may respond to a move like that.

  41. avatar Styles15 says:

While Wiz is not great in the our zone, he is a hard hitting and excellent puck moving defenseman. Mark Streit isn’t too great in our zone either, but he is a keeper. Wiz should be too. I am not saying he is a shutdown defenseman. I do not think we have any of those. But, we cannot deny that he is an invaluable part of our offense, despite the fact that he misses the net now and again. The guy leads us in points! 2 12 14!

  42. avatar JJ says:

We could think about trading Wiz at the deadline, but we can’t afford to lose an actual NHL defenseman anytime soon!

Anyone notice that Cam Fowler is starting to tear it up for Anaheim? They definitely got a steal with the 12th pick.

That said, I’m happy with the Nino pick. We have a bunch of solid defensive prospects, and clearly offense is our main issue.

  43. avatar Jim Clark says:

#31 While SNY certainly could use some programming dealing with hockey and specifically the Islanders, they won’t be getting the contract for games. According to a Newsday report in January, 2009, the cable deal with MSG lasts through the 2030-31 season. It is currently $20 million a year and will rise to $36 million by the time it ends. Perhaps both sides would agree to cancel it. But why would both agree to do it? If the Islanders are bad, Wang will want the money he has. If they are good, MSG won’t want to let it go. Besides, does SNY want to promote a product that is on a competitor’s network?

I saw the Islanders on the cover of “Long Island Business News” with a two page article on their problems. One club official says their corporate sponsorships deals have increased and are now slightly better than NHL average. Okay, if you say so.

  44. avatar daviLuv says:

I often read this blog. I bumped into it about a year ago. I never wrote on it before, but i cant keep quiet anymore. This is the only place to get any islander news. Garth Snow is a petty little man for the ban on Botta. When you point a finger at someone you have 3 pointing at yourself. Get over yourself Garth you put this team together the fact that Bruno and Jon Sim are still on this team says everything we need to know about you as a GM. Free Botto you moon face jerk.

  45. avatar battfist says:

Keep these segments coming. Nice work.

    I agree about the building.
I was at the home opener last season-
The barn was rocking-and dnt think Tavares, Bailey and Okposo dnt remember that. I dnt think they will leave.

I disagree with the crown jewel comment.
The Isles do have a franchise player in their system, his name is:

    Kevin Poulin
