SNY PRE-GAME SHOW, PART I: JOSH BAILEY
The young forward on the fight for consistency
You’ll see here why I admire young Joshua. Although he is pointless in four games, I cut him some slack by mentioning how BOB robbed him on that scoring attempt in front in Philly. Instead, he puts the blame on himself. Good stuff. Recorded Tuesday afternoon.
Islanders Therapy continues in Carolina postgame thread. This thread is for the Bailey video and looking ahead to tonight in Ottawa. Next up: 1-on-1 with John Tavares.

josh bailey has not been the same player since he hurt his hip. comeau came out of the gates firing but after taking a few big big hits he has hardly been himself. rick dipietro is statistically the worst goalie in the NHL this season. scott gordon who hasn’t had a lot of tools to work with has finished dead last, 5th to last, and now has lost 5 straight games in a contract year and the last 2 were completely embarrassing.
i think gordon has lost control of this team.

Haha… most of the Islanders are pointless this season.
-
What worries me most is the team’s loss of focus so early in the season. This is something that should happen in the middle of the season, not the start, or after a long winning streak.
-
This is why Bailey, who has been inconsitant, was the right move in the 2008 draft. I’m hoping that he does improve his consitancy because then he’ll be a 25 goal and 70 point guy. I would like to see him play with Johnny T because he distrubutes the puck so well and Tavares is a scorer.
I hope Bailey gets it going because I have him on my fantasy team after the point out put he had the first week. -
Hard to believe this kid is so young. Hopefully his hard work pays off. Tonight will say it all for Gordon and Weight. If the team does not play hard tonight, there are serious issues with leadership. I hope Gordon isn’t forced into playing Gervais, DP Hunter etc. If he is, he should quit because the Islanders performance right now isn’t helping his rep. Didn’t understand all of the media attention and hype regarding Schrempf. Glad to hear he is a good guy, but he hasn’t produced like we are getting the second coming of an all-star. Way too much hype for a player who we picked up on waivers imo. Turn it around tonight boys

Great interview with Josh. I was so happy to here him make that statement about “putting the puck where he wanted it”.
I’m curious as to who is going to pay the price in ice time tonight in Ottawa after last night’s loss. I didn’t see much of the game last night, it was a rare miss for me.

he could be future captain material in a few years depending on who we keep$$$

Time to win one boys, lets go Josh!

In a perfect world we get an arena deal and guys like Bailey, Okposo, Tavares, Neilsen, and eventually Nino, DeHaan, and Hamonic can be signed long term one after the other. It would be a shame trying to build something but having someone run off to greener pastures each year. I cannot see Wang shelling out the big bucks for these guys after the ridiculous contract he gave Ricky. What a mess…
-
Bailey is one of the few positives on this team
this team needs to step it up tonight
-
Its not rocket science. Bailey, Comeau and Isles need to shoot more. We were peppering opposing goalies in first few games.
I bit of a rut for isles. Playing such a long road trip is hard. Hopefully with Rollie in net they can win one, and then get back home and dominate again.
-
Isles need to shoot the puck more. They are second guessing their pointblank shots (no pun intended). No it’s not all Ricky’s fault, but the fact that he is playing soooo poorly does have an effect on the team. Imagine the team scored six goals–they still would have lost! That can be quite deflating to anyone, never mind a young core. There is no way management is thinking playoffs while continually playing a goalie who is in no way ready. I too want Ricky to succeed, but he needs to “practice” at the Bridge–not here! Really just embarassing to watch.

Seriously, this is a young team lacking confidence. How in the world can DP get another start? He is awful. He should be rehabbing in Bridgeport. If he can”t cut it there they should eat it and release him. Not the first and not the last bad contract. Goal tenders are cheap so the replacement cost is minimal. Disgusted every night they put him out there. I pay good money for these games, they owe it to all of us to suit up the best line up.
-
Great interview, not sure he is 100% yet. There are no words to describe how bad the Islanders were last night. Based on what I saw last night, there can be a real issue made of Gordon losing the team. They looked like a high school team playing with no desire. No hustle, players out of position, and a goalie who is just plain bad now, and should be getting his rust out in Bridgeport. Do you think Al Arbour would have put up with this crap in the early days? If we are going to suck like this, I would much rather see guys like Hamonic, Joensuu and Ullstrom get a chance. Any other back up goalie would be better than DP now.
-
When Bailey and Comeau were ripping it up they were playing on a line together because of Tavares’ injury. Why is it that as soon as Tavares came back they broke up our best scoring line? I remember back in the day if you found a line that would work together you would stick with it. Now they’re playing people together based on what they SHOULD do? Put Bailey and Comeau back together!

Although this team came out of the gate pretty well in spite of the injury bug, it seems as though other teams have them figured out already. Not to mention a loss of confidence over the last five games. They skated hard and skated well the first six or seven games but have lost that “we’re not rebuilding anymore” edge they came out with. They’ve stopped skating hard, blowing more defensive assignments with an unbelievable amount of odd man rushes against and insist for some reason, putting forward at the point on the power play. They should only play tapes of Frans Neisen to the forwards so maybe it would catch on with the forwards how to be responsible defensively. On the the breakouts, most of the last five games they look like they are skating in mud…no movement….everyone’s stick carried waist high like they don’t want the pass. I know I’m beating a dead horse CB, and I know its not gonna happen, but Ricky should be getting his game and his confidence back in Bridgeport. This team stopped playing in front of him in the Carolina game. That is also on the coach as well. I know we went through this before, but just because the players like the coach, it doesn’t make the coach a good coach for the team.

Very troublesome to think that Gordon’s job might be on the line. There is no one in this organization who could step in. That would also validate that the “overspeed” concept was wrong after almost three years. My feeling is that Gordo’s system is responsible for many of the injuries over the past 3 years. That said, I like Gordon who, with the right assets would be a good coach at this level. Agree that DP is terrible and should sit. Does not bode well for next 2 games. We have loads of trouble with both OTT and PHA and then they go out west. Going to be a very loooong year.

Strong play in the beginning of the season masked the fact that this team is made up of a combination of real members of the Islanders (our future) and a bunch of hopeful, second-chance type guys. I have a feeling gordon’s comment about guys losing ice time is mainly directed at some of those guys who feel like they will not be a part of this team for too long, guys that are already looking towards the future and the next team they will play for. I think PA falls into this category and maybe a few others who bring down the level of the team. Mottau’s comments after the game seemed to emphasize the same feeling. A few bad apples ruining the tree. It’s really sad because there was so much positive stuff going on; I personally felt very optimistic and considered this team as having the most poential I’ve seen from any Islanders team in the past 15 years. I was planning on going to the game this Sat against Philly, but now I ask myself, “Self, do you really wanna drive all the way to Long Island from Jersey just to see a bunch of guys NOT play their hearts out?” I don’t think so…

I really like Josh Bailey, think he can be a very good player, sort of Billy Harris like. Very good but not great. Also really like Moulson and Schremp and Grabner and Nino and MacDonald and Hamonic…..but what is happening when we put this all together? Every team has injuries and young players and blah blah blah blah. But why can we not turn the corner and take 2 step forward? Just to kick the dead horse one more time…if DP is our #1 goalie, why did we do what we just did to him??? Every other team pulls the guy after the 3rd goal to shake things up…but this has become embarassing. Wish we knew who was flying the ship…go Isles

Bailey said nothing of substance in the entire interview. He comes across as even-keeled and mature but I’d like to see some passion in the guy.
I am wondering whether Gordon is a complete fool or whether he is being told who must play by Snow or Wang (DP, Gervais, Hunter). The former would suggest he will not be invited back after the season when his contract is up and the latter would suggest he’s better off quitting while he still has his pride intact and coaching elsewhere in the NHL or AHL.
The game tonight will be closer, if for no other reason than Roloson will not let in more than 4 goals no matter how awful the team plays in front of him. Glad Nino is not here to learn from this crew the rest of this season.
-
of course Wang wants his buddy to play… DP has 10 or 11 years left on that contract..it is an albatross that sits around this teams neck…you think all the guys on the team arent thinking the same thing?…its 19 guys and one goalie with a ridiculos contract who shouldnt be playing right now based on his performance… but gets “favored son” status…
-
I looks more likely to me that the team quit on DP after DP just blew. It has to be disheartening for any player to feel they need to score 8 goals to win. He isn’t even a fan favorite, sit him down. Playing him cannot be Gordons decision, it has to be Snow. If the team feels the coach isn’t in charge they won’t perform.
-
I just realized that Gordon is in a bad mood all the time because Garth & Wang are telling him who to play.—No other way to explain Gervais and D.P. on N.H.L ice.
-
Gillies better be in the lineup tonight He will go with Neal in the main event

It’s young guys like Bailey who give me hope for this team.
