WIZ SHIPPED TO MONTREAL FOR PICKS
Snow acquires a 2nd and 5th from Canadiens

by Chris Botta on December 28th, 2010 at 5:01 pm

The Islanders have traded James Wisniewski to Montreal for a second round pick in 2011 and a fifth round pick in 2012. The second rounder is the Canadiens’ compensatory pick for not signing a recent first round selection. Since he won’t be asked to be the man in Montreal, Wisniewski – unabe to shoulder the load when Mark Streit was sidelined with a serious shoulder injury – should be okay for the Habs. Some more wheel-spinning for the NYI (unless there is a significant followup move), but good value for Garth Snow considering a lot of people were beating The Wiz. Would not consider picking up aging Brian Rolston siginificant should it happen. According to Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet, the compensatory pick should land around 50th overall. No problem with the timing here; if Snow waited any longer, I doubt Wisniewski’s value was going to go up. The Canadiens got the player they targeted. The Islanders got as much as they could get.

Just once, once, I would love to see the Isles obtain an actual, legitimate NHL player in a trade. It’s always picks and more picks. Some we hit on, some we don’t and then we end up 29th or 30th in the NHL every year.

  2. avatar Jcchamu says:

Why not give Cheechoo a try. 29 games in AHL has 11 goals 21 Assts 31points. Can’t hurt. better than some of the crap we have now.

  3. avatar mtrico says:

CB, since that pick is a compensatory pick, where exactly does it fall? Beginiing of the second round? End? Somewhere in between to be determined based upon finish?

  4. avatar ericdixon says:

No great loss. Maybe in Montreal they’ll give English-language subtitles for his next profane gesture. Anyone notice how both MacDonald and Hamonic have climbed over Gervais and Hillen — and everyone else, frankly — on the defensive depth chart?

  5. avatar kurvers28 says:

It’s pick 50 in this year’s NHL draft.

  6. avatar Glenn says:

I would like to see some of these picks moved for an established player or two at some point.

This team needs stability. The rebuild does not seem to have a clear cut direction.

I do not appreciate how the Wang/Snow/Gordon press conference at the beginning of the season asked for us to not refer to the Islanders as a rebuilding team since the goal is to make the playoffs this season!!

More recently, Snow refered back to the whole “struggles are expected during a rebuild” line.

What is management trying to accomplish with this trade if we aren’t rebuilding anymore?

  7. avatar JoeRiverside says:

Not a fan of the Wiz….so I’m happy Isles picked up 2nd rounder.

  8. avatar john says:

More good news, Brock Nelson got hurt at WJC

  9. avatar john says:

trade our 1st rounder this year to the devils for Parise

  10. avatar Phil says:

Yea, more picks. That is all Snow is capable of. He is by far the worst GM in hockey.

  11. avatar ditty says:

good trade. we traded our third rounder for him over the summer. now we got back a 2nd and a 5th. sweet

  12. avatar NHL fan says:

Not that the Wiz was a great defenseman, but what are the Isles left with? I agree with the first post, when are the Isles going to get a legitimate NHL player in a trade? We now have a lot of picks and prospects but no director of player development. There franchise has no direction.

  13. avatar James Wisniewski says:

Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.

  14. avatar Alex says:

Looks like hamonic is here to stay. Couldn’t we have thrown Bruno in to sweeten the deal??

  15. avatar Lean Cugine says:

Garth what are we doing. This chooch better plan on trading our first pick this year. no more drafting, just get some good vets in here. It hasn’t worked yet-try something new

  16. avatar Pete says:

I’m sure this is Ricky’s fault!

  17. avatar Andre says:

I have no clue what Rolston would provide the Islanders. The Islanders would be doing the Devils a huge favor by picking up Rolston if indeed they do. He can’t be the winger for Tavares they are looking for. They probably made this move to free cap space for an extension for Moulson. This team can’t and won’t add payroll. I am telling you the Islanders are going to be in NHL Draft lottery year after year because the GM has absolutely no clue what he is doing and the owner is a clown.

  18. Everyone has been piling on the Wiz.. I was one of them.. rightfully so he was and is not a replacement for a # 1, 2, 3, or 4 D’man Which is what most people thought he was going to be on the Island, that was not the case. He still had more points then anyone else so, not bad for a guy no one seemed to like. Anyway, we got some MORE picks for him, who knows could turn out to be something good if we draft well..again it means WAITING to for kids to develop, OR, could be bundled up and packaged for some honest to goodness NHL talent..Gonna have to wait and see. Not a bad move though from Garth, we aren’t making the playoffs so why not get what you can now and see what he can make of it with a couple of draft selections or trade bait.

  19. avatar Unforunate Isles Fan says:

This is just Snow and Wang admitting that they are already giving up on the season, I guess we’ll just keep rebuilding until 2015, and then hopefully this team will move so I don’t have to deal with them anymore, they are like the abusive girlfriend that no matter how bad they treat me, and how many promises they break, I keep going back for more. I hope they just leave already so I can get on with my life.

  20. avatar Will C. says:

Good move for both parties. I love the NOBODY BEATS THE WIZ reference. Classic.

CB: If I am Snow I claim Marek Svatos, Thoughts?

  21. avatar IslesRock says:

Wow, what a joke this organization is. Garth, maybe you can draft another Corey Trivino with the 2nd pick. Better yet, why not give Lee Trivino a try.

  22. avatar Brad says:

This deal was probably down days ago but they were just waiting for the singular controlled media outlet to come up with a positive spin story.

  23. avatar Oncesince1940 says:

We traded a third round pick to get him and then traded him for a second and a conditional. Sounds good to me since he wasn’t gonna be resigned. I don’t know his (hits) numbers in New York, but he averaged a hit and a half a game in his last season with Anaheim. If Streit were here, I think we would have seen alot more hitting as well as alot fewer risks being taken.

  24. avatar Adam M says:

i don’t mind this he was bad at the point never shot that much but then again him and streit would have been nice

  25. avatar ron b from nhp says:

same old song and dance !!!! great job snow…

  26. avatar Eric says:

Look Wisniewski is a Number 4 defensemen on a contending team. Hes a number 3 on some ok teams because he is terrible one on on. Players blow right past him. You saw it opening night against Dallas Richards just blew right by him it was like a video game. Would I have liked to have kept him for the future? Sure but he was a free agent and u could tell he was frustrated. If he was not signing here you HAVE to make this deal. you might not get more than this at the deadline. I like Wisniewski he could put up some points and I think in a playoff series he comes up big, but if he wasnt going to sign here, then you have to get good value and I think the Islanders did that today. Now if the Islanders trade Moulson there gem find that will be a TRAVESTY on many levels. #1 Moulson is solid. #2 His best friend on the team is Tavares which would not send a good mesasage. #3. He good.

  27. avatar steve says:

does anything matter until wang is gone

  28. avatar Mike says:

Cb, why not wait until the deadline when his price would have been higher for teams desperate to make a move for the playoffs? Seems like Garth was a little trigger happy to make a move

  29. avatar JohnP says:

DONE!! I’m done with this franchise. Growing up watching them I even got a tattoo of the logo, and this trade has officially killed any faith I have in them…WTF??? He was a defensive point- leader for the team!!! Just lost another fan snow. Great job! My 4 year old nephew can make better decisions than you.

  30. avatar Isles fan in Fla says:

Doesn’t this bring us under the cap floor? He was terrible defensively. Shot wide a ton. But did produce some points. Too bad he never got a chance to play with Streit. Leaves our D very thin offensively. Bruno can pick up he slack!! More Sim more Sim please why no 1st line for him? Party on Garth, great job! Don’t deviate from your plan, it’s working perfectly.

  31. avatar nyislanders93 says:

Good trade. Acquire him for a 3rd, trade him for a 2nd and possibly a 5th as well. I sure hope someone is brought in to run the draft. Snow can’t do it on his own. There’s a reason that the 29 other GM’s in the league aren’t completely in charge of scouting AND drafting too.

  32. avatar Steve Webb says:

Ok this is a joke, right? Last night the isles lost because they could not break the forecheck, or establish possession in the other zones. They need another puck moving defensemen a la healthy mark streit + Wiz. To trade from your weakness like this, is suicide.

Just a little rough math for those intrested. Isles Cap Total with Wiz was 47.5 mill. minus his salary they are at.44.3 mill. Now here is where it gets fun subtract The Yashin Buyout cap hit (4.75) and your left with 39.5 million (about 4 mill under the cap) as the payroll cap hit of all the players on the isles roster. Indulgeing myself with a little more fun I’m going to subtract players that aren’t playing on a nightly basis due to injury. lets keep the list conservative (Okposo, Hunter, Weight, Mottau, Streit, Martinek) These six get paid a total of 11.2 mill. Take this from the 39.5 and we are left with a 28.2 million dollar payroll for the team Isles fans have to watch on a nightly basis right now. The cap floor is 43.4 million this year. The Islanders are Playing with a roster right now that is 15 million dollars below the NHL cap floor! If your really crazy, you can throw in rickys contract too! How can we possibly expect them to even compete? Sorry I got sidetracked.

  33. avatar shlo says:

He still had 21 points. How many of those we have? with no scouts around who will they pick ?
    probably another loser…

  34. avatar Drive4Five....wins? says:

Well that experiment is over, whats next Garth? You make me sick!

  35. avatar JimmyMac77 says:

    Good trade by both sides.

  36. avatar sign guy says:

A good move by Snow. Wiz never lived up to the hype. Watching him making mistake after mistake the reason other teams let him go. Homonic solid night after night and getting better each game.

  37. avatar Jerky says:

Perplexed by the timing of this transaction since I imagine they could have gotten the same thing or better closer to the deadline. Snow must not have been happy with the comments Wiz made to the media about so many different partners this season plus the divine intervention comment during the losing streak.

My brother has a good idea – package Roloson with the 2nd round pick we just acquired for a 1st rounder. Can be used as trade bait for an established vet.

Does this move put them below the salary cap floor? Will chef Bruno be back in the lineup now?

  38. avatar Bryan says:

It would have been nice to resign a guy like this. Even to be a #3/#4 guy. Now instead we have a 2nd round pick and nobody on the ice. Hopefully this means they will resign Martinek.

  39. avatar Ice Girl Dad says:

    # 24 histrade valuemaybe diminshed by the time time the deadline rolls around May be theywill package some of these picks and get a decent return……. but when?

  40. avatar Ice Girl Dad says:

    # 24 his trade value may be diminshed by the time time the deadline rolls around May be they will package some of these picks and get a decent return……. but when?

  41. avatar Kevin says:

Garth must have noticed they pulled a few points ahead of the Devils. Can’t have that now. Operation Tank in full effect.

  42. avatar Real hockey fan says:

    .. Wow just wow

.. Whats going on here? Is there a game plan? SRSLY, do we have one? The wiz was a servicible solid NHL Dman with 21 pts

.. Ooooo i see, hes due $$$ at the end of the year, thats it and no surprise with this bunch, ive liked draft pix in the past but we need warm bodies who can play

.. Ive defended Wang and Snow many times but its getting tougher and tougher to do, there doesnt seem to be ANY PLAN but cutting co$t$, when is someone in the media going to make some REAL noize about this?

.. I hate to say it but it seems like they are hellbent on making this franchise irrelevent, what a joke! :-(

  43. avatar Sean says:

Can we move Bruno he is no use to us maybe get another draft pick for the garbage we have, maybe throw hunter in also.

  44. avatar Mike says:

Sure, why not? Season’s a wash anyway.

  45. avatar RichM says:

    #12….that is awesome!!!

  46. avatar Steve M says:

Looks like the rebuild is an absolute failure, especially when Snow trades one of our best D-men for a 2nd round pick. Out with Wang and Snow….NOW

  47. avatar Terrance says:

We all agree this season is a lost cause, so it is smart of Garth to be looking forward to next season and acquiring picks.

The team can’t do any worse than they have been with Wiz, so save the salary and gain a pick.

  48. avatar Joe says:

Is this all just a bad dream? The man is leading in team scoring so what do we do? Trade him. I have had it. This team is run like a sinking ship and it’s just about completely sunk.

  49. avatar Former isles fan says:

Good job Garth, trade away one of the few NHLers on the team, who is also your leading point defenseman and tied for team lead in points. Guess it was embarrassing that we have a defenseman tied for the lead with what is suppose to be our offense. The new york islander fans are offering a trade of charles wang and garth snow to any organization no matter what industry that needs to be run to the ground for one bag of your trash. Guess it is time to start giving away tickets wang since apparently the drop in attendance is going to not look good to the league. I’m done with this joke time to stop watching.

  50. avatar Jesse Juristo says:

I understand that a 2nd round pick is an upgrade over a 3rd round pick… but why trade somebody who’s racking up points when it’s still early in the season? You’re telling your fans to give up on the season. Stop coming to the games. Stop watching on TV. Only thing I can think of is that Snow talked to wisniewski and realized that there is no way he would EVER re-sign with the islanders. Makes sense… Nobody ever plays for us ON PURPOSE!!!

  51. avatar Marc says:

We can lose with him, we can lose without him. Probably a good move considerinng that he wasn’t injured playing for the Islanders yet so it was just a matter of time. Better to get more picks than nothing, and hopefully the trade results in a higher lottery pick (which will probably be traded for more picks.) Bottom line is that the franchise is worse than pathetic these days.

  52. avatar caber09 says:

Wiz probably mouthed off to Snow, Wang, or DP

  53. avatar Former isles fan says:

O and this years draft classes is said to be very weak past the fifth pick so what does a second round pick do for a team that sucks.

  54. avatar Exilesurfskim56 says:

i’m guessing this was the dude who made the smart “country club” comment

  55. avatar Steve M says:

I agree with #54. It was most likely something he said or did.

  56. avatar Hud says:

I’m trying to figure out how a 26 year d-man who leads the team in points is not part of the rebuild? Do they go pick another Petrov or Kabanov who may or may not play someday in the NHL? It’s more of a joke each day.

  57. avatar George says:

Wanna bet Snow never uses this pick? He’ll bundle it with more later picks to get picks in 2012, or haven’t you paid attention to how he “works”??

  58. avatar Frank E. says:

That’s a first. It’s still December, yet Wangsnow are dumping salary and giving up on the season.
What does that say to the rest of the players: play out the string….the next FORTY EIGHT games are meaningless.
What does that say to the fans: don’t bother showing up until next season.

Wang does not deserve to own a team. Bettman should force him out.

  59. avatar TimQ says:

Maybe Snow will put a package of picks together to bring Ryan Smyth back.

  60. avatar mika makela24 says:

This was about $$ and about how Wiz, when doing interviews, speaks his mind instead of giving the company line. That scares Wang, who is 100% FOS and needs his players to be as fake as Wang is himself.

  61. avatar Big Van Vader says:

The Wiz had his faults but he was a good player for us. Are we still NOT a rebuilding team, Garth??? If the “goal” is to build through the draft and add fringe players, only to trade them for draft picks to continue to “build” through the draft year in and year out, how can we NOT be pissed as fans?? If we were a team that had won a couple of rounds in the last few years and we were told that they wanted to rebuild “through the draft” while adding a few vets to help these kids and the whole thing go faster, I firmly believe that most fans would be fine with this. Problem is, we’ve sucked BADLY since 1994, (losing in the first round for a few seasons doesn’t count as a good year; well, maybe for us Isles fans)and in 2008 we were told that we would be trying this new rebuild. Well, here we are entering 2011 and we’re STILL basically in last place, our owner says NOTHING to us of our teams future on Long Island (or at all), our GM is another Milbury who thinks he’s smarter than everyone in the league, and ALL WE WANT AS FANS are TWO THINGS:

    1. Honestly from our owner and GM. I don’t have to go over the details, we all know them.

    2. We just want a good team. Do we all have dreams of rebuilding and becoming the next Blackhawks, Pens or Caps? Sure. But the way we are going, will Tavares WANT to be an Islander when his rookie contract is up? Imagine the lowballing that will be going on with Wang and Snow running the show.

Enough is enough and it’s time for a change.

    Nelson Peltz, where are you?

  62. avatar TM says:

Wiz did get beat a lot but who else do they have as a banger/shot from the point on PP? Ya have to figure this was personal (again) to Snow because he got nobody who can play now back and Wiz said something to piss Snow off. The country club comment, the divine intervention and look of confusion during the 14 game losing streak and that he never saw anything like this and the comment about the nurse in the hospital prolly weren’t politically correct in Snow’s world.

New chant for the 6K left at home games – SNOW MUST GO!

  63. avatar Mike P says:

What’s with all the crying about Wiz. He STUNK, got beat repeatedly and turned over the puck in our zone almost as much as the chef Gervias so why not a 2nd rounder. In my opinion that’s about all he’s worth, maybe less. He’s a good fit for MTL, he IS NOT a 1 or 2 defenseman and a replacement for Streit which he showed. He was gone in the offseason anyway so what’s the whining about. Facts are facts that we are still rebuilding so lets pile em up and go from there. I agree with poster #9 and would make a HUGE push for Parise, well, considering he should already be an Islander,( Thanks Milbury you #$&% )

  64. avatar Mike says:

    Does it really matter anymore?

  65. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

Bad News: The defense is worse today than it was yesterday.
Good News: The defense was already last in the league.

Wiz served his purpose. His three months with the team contributed a cap hit of $1,353,527. Every little bit helps when you are trying to reach the cap floor witout actually paying for legit NHL’ers.

  66. avatar hoser14 says:

Well no more Cheese Wiz, but more picks.

But all things being even, Wiz did OK for someone placed in a role he wasn’t suited, he not a 1st-pair/shut-down d-man, he’ll do very well as a second-unit pp QB and as a 3rd-pair d-man.

I wish him well, thanks for his service under a no-win situation, hopefully the hospital staff in Montreal won’t blame him for management’s mis-management.

  67. avatar dave b says:

look at pittsburgh….many years of struggling and eventually a stanley cup champion. if we dont have a shot at making the playoffs, we might as well tank to have a 49% chance at the first overall pick in next year’s draft. with the young core healthy (bailey, okposo, tavares, comeau, moullson, nielsson), and streit’s injury hoping to be less devastating than DP’s, we have a team beginning to look like a possible winner. All these guys are going to resign simply bc they havent proved anything on this level. Garth is playing smart, he will be able to get tavares, okposo and bailey for fractions of the amount that they would have gotten if they performed at the level they should be. once these guys are done with their entry-level deals nobody will give any serious money bc they just havent done anything. isles will be able to get all of them for cheap, plus they will have picks in this draft to compliment. once all that happens, we will have extra cap space to sign veteran defensemen, all better than Wiz.

  68. avatar anthony c says:

back to the nhl cellar we go. was considering going to the game tomorrow just so I could at least see one game while I’m visiting family on LI, but no way. I’m not wasting my money. If I want to go watch an AHL team I’ll take the ferry to bridgeport. Go to hell snow. You to wang.

  69. avatar JimmyMac77 says:

Would you rather get nothing for him @ the end of the season.

    We gave up a conditional 3rd rounder for a 2nd and a 5th rounder.

I’m not sure why people are upset.

There could be bigger things that come from this trade.

  70. avatar Dom says:

Hello!….it’s me again. Need to spell it out for EVERYONE in here once again.. NOTHING..NOTHING!!! MATTERS UNTIL THE ARENA ISSUE IS SETTLED. New ARENA = New LIFE. No ARENA = DEATH TO THE FRANCHISE!!! Have a nice day :)

  71. avatar Set says:

Wang has to be happy. He doesn’t have to pay Wisniewski the rest of the money he is owed!

  72. avatar alan says:

While I am glad we were able to shuttle Wiz for a top 50, the Islanders D took a bigger hit today with the leg injury suffered by Calvin Dehaan at the WJC. Besides Hamonic, our D lacks a nastiness. Too many 5’10, 185 pound Dmen will not cut it.

  73. avatar dynasty23x4 says:

im just glad that we finally made A move, rather than being stagnant. wiz wasnt gonna be resigned nor do i think he would want to come back, so thanks and good luck james. #13-lmao

  74. avatar David Volek says:

Trading Wiz saved Wang roughly 1.5 shmill for the remainder of the season. Snow got a 2nd and a 5th for the third rounder he gave up to get Wizniewski. Those are the facts of this.

You could see that Wisniewski was not happy being on this crappy team. Noone ever knows what goes on behind the scenes but the isles made the right move for a rebuilding franchise.

The isles dont have the game changing forwards……….its just the way the drafts have been……..but they do have a lot of prospects playing in the world juniors.

I personally feel Wang is waiting for 2015 when the lease is up, and wouldnt ya know, when these prospects now, are going to be NHLers. This is when the isles will be competitive.

2015 THE YEAR THE ISLES WIN THE CUP, and the lease expires……..how fitting.

  75. avatar Islander Fan in Pa says:

Message to Okposo and Tavares – Don’t sign with this team. Get out of town ASAP

  76. avatar lets keep drafting says:

we will always be rebuilding. Snow is milbury all over again.

  77. avatar lets keep drafting says:

lets keep all the d men who get hurt year after year n ship out the strong healthy ones great move garth. how about signing 10 dmen who r injury prone next season. what a joke.

  78. avatar metroboy says:

Let’s hope hunter & blake are next…the team is playin a more defensive style now that capuano has taken over, which is why wiz doesn’t fit in…he was another marc andre-bergeron, his shots NEVER hit the net

  79. avatar MickeyBoy7 says:

Allright!!! Now we can draft another goalie or three. Here we go again with another save a buck move. We save so much money we should change our name to the NY Dime Savings Bank. We are now making Roy Boe look like George Steinbrenner.

  80. avatar Hud says:

Did I miss something or should we just give up on anyone with any talent because they will never stay and there will never be a new building and JT will leave and Okposo will leave and Streit will be dealt soon and DP will retire and the Isles will have 1000 second round picks used on average guys who when they become decent will be traded because nobody wants to be an Islander and this continues until 2015 when they move to KC or Hamilton or Winnipeg or Quebec at which point all the 500 second rounders become all stars and they win the cup?

  81. avatar jbassman says:

Good lord…ANOTHER PICK. Do we ever obtain an actual proven player?!?! The Wiz never performed miracles but he could have been a quality piece of the puzzle down the line. His d has improved and feel he could have been legitimate 4th. Aside from streit who else can rocket the puck like he did on that last 5-3 goal? More good news from the funny farm, actually happy for the wiz to leave this sh#!show. No worries though, reese and the chef will pick up the slack.

  82. avatar Joey303 says:

With the compensatory 50th pick in this years NHL Draft, the Islanders select……(insert here) Goalie _______ __________

  83. avatar Andre says:

There is NO way I would resign with the Islanders if I were Tavares, Okposo or Bailey. None whatsoever. I would hold out the whole season if I had to until I got traded. I hope all three demand a trade out of town. This franchise is a joke.

  84. avatar The Pork Chop Express says:

The only way this makes sense is that the isles tried to sign him and he wants to test the waters. If that is not the case than this is a bad move since according the Garth and Wang our team was scheduled to make the playoffs. According to the two men on their Q&A call, the injuries caused the team to be in the place that they are in. Obviously, I dont believe that but I will play with their game (if two injuries puts your team in last place than that paints the picture of the rest of the squad). Anyway back to my point. If we had a playoff calibur team why trade a solid piece of that team without upgrading? Next year we would have both KO and Streit back and be on our way. Yes, Wiz is not the best dmen in the league but he was our best. The guy is a quality vet with playoff experience and can be a leader. Snow must stop feeding our kids the wolves. Do you honestly think AMAC and Hamonic are ready for the burden of being our top d pair? They are not even close of being ready and it is very unfair to put them in that position. We need veteran players to help mold/assist our young players. With that said please pick up rolston (not going to happen). He is a leader and can help this team’s growth. Instead we will trade moulson, roloson, and every other UFA for 6,7 rd picks and continue the rebuild for 2015.

Also for eveyone who thinks a bigger trade is in the works I hope you are right but based on our history I don’t see it coming.

  85. avatar rpchief2 says:

He was not going to resign, so should we have kept him all year for him to leave and get nothing back. He never wanted to play here. He signed an extention with the ducks and two days later they traded him here. This is not someone who was going to help us moving forward. Get the idea out of your heads that they are going to trade for actually bodies. This is what a slow and steady rebuild is, slow. They will bring in vets when the time is right, and they have cap room to resign the current players they deam valuable. Keep the faith.. Lets Go Islanders

  86. avatar Sidd Finch says:

The tight lipped management team is now in a very precarious position. Any player that wants out only needs to threaten management with the threat of blasting the team in the media. If he does not get traded, he will simply diminish his own trade value leaving the Isles with a stocking full of coal. As for Roli’s trade value, just wait for a playoff caliber team without a battle tested backup to have its No 1 goalie go down and you will have your trade. Take it one step farther and take back a salary cap anchor in a walk year and you can demand a 1st rounder. Furthermore, like them or not, people have to get over the whole Wang/Snow thing. They are not going anywhere and there is nothing you or anyone else can do about it. Bettman is already on record as saying that there is nothing that they can or will do to the Islanders. (Remember this, Bettman WORKS FOR the Board of Governors, the team owners of the NHL.) Like it or not, we are stuck with this nutty leadership team for the unforeseeable future!?!?!?!

Wasn’t this the same Wiz who was the greatest steal in the FA market last summer! I remember Garth being touted a genius for this 3mil pickup! Everything here is a total joke. The team is rutterless and has no future right now. Moulson is next, then Rolli. Then you will see the young guys up and leave. But hey we got the #50 pick! I am sure there is a junior high kid somewhere we can pick up with that pick! A disgrace!

  88. avatar stevenp says:

puppet puppet puppet….snow and company should recreate the muppet show….. this team is a joke! why would anyone pay to watch this crap.think about it everyone thought snow was awesome for getting the wiz when it was only a smoke screen to make people buy season tickets. what a joke

  89. avatar JKP on LI says:

“A lot of people were beating the Wiz.” “Ouch” and “lol” at the same time.

  90. avatar NYIFAN10 says:

Should have picked up Cheechoo as well

  91. avatar IsleFan73 says:

Wow, what a trade. More picks for team without a scouting director!! Garth is really going to have to burn the midnight candle this year studying TSN’s draft board. Chris, I think you should thank your lucky stars that the Isles pulled your credentials. This way you do not have to get to close to the rotting stench of the once proud Islander organization. I would tell Wang and Snow to stick the credentials you know where.

The Islanders are “The Producers” of the NHL. Lets purposely put together the worst hockey team we can. Unfortunately, this flop will not turn into a hit. Oh, I forgot, the real problem is the Coliseum and the TOH. You win Charles, just sell and move already. We cannot take this crap anymore. Shame on you Wang. By the way, we fans did not buy your BS on Bettman radio.

  92. avatar Lorne says:

Doesn’t this put us 3.5 million bucks under the cap.

  93. avatar Lorne says:

PS I bet Roloson and Moulson are next.

  94. avatar D in BIG D says:

I question the motives in making this deal now.I wasn’t crazy about the Wiz but also thought he was expected to do too much. Also never really did see that toughness everyone was talking about when we aquired him.I’ll give Garth this….he is truly sticking to his plan of building through the draft. The only question I have is when are we going to stabilize the roster a bit w/ some seasoned vets.I will not watch anymore games w/ Hillen and Brutal on the ice. They are both just pathetic.JT has BUST written all over him!!This guy just has NO COMPETE LEVEL.If it don’t come easy he won’t go get it.Time to demote him to 3rd line or minors for that matter. This team is HORRIBLE!!

  95. avatar Steve says:

    Season is over.

  96. avatar tj says:

where does the cap hit leave the team? wasnt this guy earning an obscene amount of money from a contract signed in anaheim? how do the isles reach the floor without the contract?

  97. avatar Peter says:

I really hope I’m wrong, but this is how I see it happening. We trade Moulson. Tavares and Okposo decide that they don’t want to stick around and either demand a trade or find another way to get out of here ASAP. We get back a plethora of second and third round picks. Snow blames our record on KO and JT being selfish and wanting too much money as well as the building.

  98. avatar JD says:

Cap Floor is 43.4 million while our current payroll is a little over 40 million as per Cap Geek so it seems other moves have to be made before tomorrow night. I wonder what the league would do if we don’t meet the floor by tomorrow evening. There is no way anyone can be called up from the Bridge to meet the floor so you would think a trade for a Dman is in the works. Can we ever do anything normal like other teams do??

  99. avatar cjcb says:

Lame! Kinda liked the Wiz’s tude. I think he was to outspoken for the Isles and they feared wiz might start calling people out in the press or maybe he did? Might not have been the best Dman but god he is much more physical than anyone other than maybe Hamonic on our smallish frail skeletal like D corp. Im not sure i can handle much more of Brutal Gervais or Sim for that matter. I come away thinking we had atleast a 3 or 4 Dman and now have a 2nd rd pick that will probably equate to nothing. I guess we are trying to secure we finish behind the Devils. Lame!!!!

  100. avatar znatokhokkeya says:

StevieL, 87, absolutely correct. We got a guy for the pick a few months ago and traded him for the pick today. Why?????
picks, picks, picks – who needs them. the team needs the actual players. Wiz was the actual player and not a bad one

  101. avatar Bob E says:

26 yr old dman that was our best player with streit absense. this is becoming a nightmare. we could of got same picks at deadlines. cant wait to see Snow statement that we feel that DYLAN Reese can fill the void. Or let me Guess, Grevais is poised to break out b/c he to push up training with chains around his neck.

I guess Carey Price loved the laser wiz put past him sunday night. That was all Habs needed.

  102. avatar GlenS says:

Truly a JOKE, in year three of a susposed rebuild and Garth is trading bodies for pick’s can someome else tell me who else has done that.Wang/Snow spin it how you want, but the bottom line this was another $$$$$ dump a body for a pick AGAIN. I’m done with this team as far as spending a DIME on them till you start moving forward which I don’t see happening with the current owner/management thats in place.

  103. avatar Michael says:

This is a garbage move made by a garbage GM ans likely ordered by garbage owner. Yet another season mailed in to save money and to delude the fans into thinking they are rebuilding.

Shame on Wang and Snow for putting a product on the ice that probably couldn’t finish first in the AHL. Shame on them for charging any ticket prices that are higher than an AHL franchise.

Any fan with tickets should do the right thing and mail their tickets to Wang and let him know what he can do with his tickets, his draft choices, his GM and his Lighthouse project.

  104. avatar caber09 says:

    This is Year 4…08, 09, 10, and now 11

  105. avatar Tom 27 says:

I’m tired of hearing, nice move Garth, Decent move Garth, Got all he could Garth…..When are we all gonna say…DAMN! Nice Trade Garth or Holy *&^$!!! Way to go Garth…….never and thats why we are where we are. EVERYBODY WANG CHUNG !!!!!

  106. avatar DJMC93 says:

i cant understand Snow and Wang, they give out the impression that they are going to make moves and pick up some talent (Last seasons “permission to open the wallet” stories) and they don’t do ANYTHING. Snow keeps saying he will not trade for a “quick fix” but first off, nothing will quickly fix this team with those 2 guys running it, secondly, isnt part of being a GM getting talent to your club and convincing them to stay and try to sign the long term…..why not trade for a big gamer and try to sign them to a multi year contract, look at what the devils did ……. i really just cant understand why Garth has not done ANYTHING to get talent out this way. I LOVE this team and it’s history, but I am getting VERY tired of trying to defend these guys when I can’t stand Snow and Wang …. I saw it once already on this blog so im gunna say it again, SNOW MUST GO

  107. avatar Mario says:

    Good move more from nhl.com:

The Islanders will receive a second-round compensatory pick the Canadiens were due to receive at the 2011 Entry Draft. If the Canadiens make the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs and Wisniewski plays in at least 50-percent of the Canadiens’ playoff games, the Islanders will receive the Canadiens’ 2012 fifth-round pick; if that pick is unavailable the Islanders will get a fourth-round pick in 2013.

  108. avatar terry b says:

at least with fios there are always some real nhl teams to watch each night, must be hard for these young guys on this team to watch the leadership from above in this organization,,comment # 13 sad but true,,,this was once a dynasty….

  109. avatar jack says:

#83 I feel your pain. But this goes for you and anyone else who thinks that way. If you actually WANT our best young players to leave and sign elsewhere than you truly should be thinking about moving on as well. You can’t be a fan of a team and at the same time wish for their only legitimate players to sign with other teams.

  110. avatar Mike A. says:

I am glad the Wisniewski worked out for the Islanders. What did the guy last. 35 games? Gone! And for what? Nothing!!!! Picks mean nothing. To believe in the draft is to believe in nothing.

  111. avatar IsleofNJ says:

Maybe Wiz was moved because he wasn’t positive enough (yeah right)….although it does sound strangely familiar?!
Sending a nice message to the team and the fans that you are giving up for this season in spite of all the “we still want to make playoffs” rhetoric.

  112. avatar eric says:

maybe the wiz wanted out of the country club.

  113. avatar giz says:

Good move Garth! 2nd an a 5th for for the Wiz I’ll take it. Give Harmonic time on the fist PP unit and see what he can do also looking foward to seeing De Haan the last 9 games.

This year is a wash but with a healthy Okposo ,Striet , Nino ready to make the jump full time next year and another top pick we will be fine as long as we stay healthy.

  114. avatar Garthsnow says:

This guy had to want out of the Island immidiatly. His body language read that he didnt want to be here anyway. But to say that we got a 2nd round pick and its soooooo much better than the 3rd we gave Anaheim, lets face it, there is not that much difference. It hurts a lot to let a guy like him go becasue he could have been a nice addition next to Streit.

  115. avatar cjcb says:

Sell please sell and fire Snow. lol this has to be the worst run sports team in all of pro sports. Cant see it getting any worse. I’ll put my money on them drafting a goalie at 50.

  116. avatar cgs878 says:

Funny, it’s not April 1. Why did they trade their #1 assist leader? Holy carp.

  117. avatar cjcb says:

If Wong truely cared about the Isles and Long island he would sell this team.

  118. avatar Realistic Isles Fan says:

#76 Milbury was better! Snow AWFUL! Oh well haven’t watched since Oct when they were 4-1-3… Have they been playing well since??? Is Gordon coaching well???

  119. avatar JD says:

Sorry for the second post. Cap Geek reports via twitter the Isles are “comfortably” over the cap floor. With bonuses factored in, payroll stands at over 45 million. Wang and Garth are clueless in running this franchise but someone behind the scenes knows how to be very creative in meeting the floor. How the league permits this to happen is insane.

  120. avatar dan says:

Even trade. The Wiz was great on the PP but awful everywhere else. Failed experiment by Garth which he resolved by getting a better pick than what he put in.

  121. avatar Bob Bassen says:

Wow. Guess winning a couple of games was too much to take for SNWANG!
    Whatever.
Actually thought that Wizz was playing pretty good lately. Oh, well…headed to Montreal…he must be pumped. Good for him!
    Hockey fan first…Islander fan second.

  122. avatar joe says:

This was a good trade, not sure why people are upset, yes another pick but one that we can possibly offer in a package trade and upgrade the team. I believe Katic may get a callup as well as Reese. Hamonic is here to stay, more ice time for him and McDonald. When will Rhett be recalled? So many opportunities for young players to prove they can play..

  123. avatar jon from nj says:

If we trade moulson, we send one of our future pieces bye-bye…and that would be indication-enough for me that snow/wang aren’t serious about improving this team. Sign the guy, move roli. Bring up poulin and get the #1. Not that it all means anything, considering tavares and okposo will leave as soon as they sniff fagency.

  124. avatar ron b from nhp says:

just bring up the sound tigers team !!! they are way more exciting than this bunch … party on garth !!!!

  125. avatar ron b from nhp says:

SEEMS LIKE THE MOVING SALE IS STARTING EARLY !!!

  126. avatar Sean says:

    Bring back Milbury…
Enjoyed the team fighting for 8th place rather then the floor. At least once you make the playoffs anything could happen.

  127. avatar Steven says:

    Whatever.

  128. avatar Kbulger22 says:

Wiz led the team in points, but also had the worst +/- on the team. That tells me he was a defensive liability. What would his +/- be if he didn’t put up some points? Like others said, getting a second and fifth rounder back after giving up a third to get him is a great trade. Kudos Garth.

  129. avatar Blizzard says:

…good trade IMO. Wiz wasnt the answer. 2nd rounder is good for the dude in the locker room that muttered the country club quote……just kidding. But seriously all in all just another asset that can be packaged in a move for a targeted player in the draft. For who ever is scouting for us.

  130. avatar Shoeless Joe Jackson says:

It seems people on this board jump off cliffs at every bit of news no matter what it is. If you ask me, getting rid of Wiz and getting a 2 and 5 is pretty good news. You know…rebuilding means drafting….which means you need draft picks….which means it’s gonna take time. Logical. Just saying…

  131. avatar j.branny says:

Hey Andre #83. I have news for you. Okposo, Bailey and Tavares have NO CHOICE. They are restricted free agents until they are 27 and have to accept their qualifying offers or arbitration, and the Isles won’t let them go for either of those two outcomes. They are here for a while.

  132. avatar Rik says:

Are we not getting tired of all the draft pics? A constant state of rebuilding and just spinning wheels. Worst record and second worst record year after year.

Garth must go. The only reason Garth should stay would be to keep Mad Mike from being GM again!!!!

  133. avatar Brian B says:

How is this not a good trade? First of all Wisniewski was not that good where you say we need to keep this guy. Secondly, Hamonic is probably here to stay so you pretty much assure him a spot. We gave a 3rd to get him. Got back a 2nd and 5th. Thats 2nd rd picks so far. And as we saw in the 2009 draft, the Isles can package 2nd round picks and grab a promising young player (like DeHaan)

  134. avatar Ryan says:

Mixed feelings here…I agree with CB, the Isles got all they could. Its pretty obvious that Wiz wasn’t going to hang around, so the Isles may as well get something in return. However, I feel the frustration of several posts above. At what point does our franchise stop becoming a quick stop for mediocre to average NHL players to hang out for a year or 2 and get traded for 2nd and 3rd round picks? I have been on board with the whole “slow and steady” rebuild, but it really is getting frustrating. I don’t get the impression that our prospects are that great, and if Wang and Snow think that they would have been playoff contenders with Streit and Okposo, then I am afraid this won’t be getting any better by next season. Honestly, are there ANY moves that Snow could make to make this team a playoff team next year? I don’t see what he can possibly do, unless they decide to take on an insane contract like Lecavalier, which will never happen.

  135. avatar Isles says:

What a disgrace!!!!!!! Mickey Mouse organization.

  136. avatar gary says:

oh he sucks–we wont miss him–He was too old and wasnt providing scoring for the Isles–By the way, how old is he, who leads the Isles in points and when was he signed and for how long? Yea, he a bust for sure

I agree that enough with the draft pics, lets get some top prospects from each team we trade with

  137. avatar Oye Comeau Va says:

Of all the terrible moves and decisions Snow and Wang have made in their time, this is not one to get up in arms about. Snow was not re-signing Wiz, Wiz was not re-signing here. He would’ve been gone as FA. Would you stay an Islander if you had a legit NHL team knocking on your door? Getting a 2nd and a 5th is a fair return for a rental that wasn’t staying here.

The bigger news of the day is de Haan getting hurt at WJC, I mean seriously people.

  138. avatar Brian G says:

This Organization has NO DIRECTION at all except to hover above 43 mil, that is the only objective – tread water until 2015, what a joke – what fans will be left??? – Wang said to Snow, cut as much salary as possible b/c no one is showing up to games – get the team salary as low as legally possible…Bridgeport is not stocked with prospects. This Organization prospects are ranked 19th…In my book Snow is NOT doing a good job – If you are rebuilding using the draft you need to be more successful with the amount of picks Snow has had to work with. Everyone is tired of picks…how about getting a player like Yannick Weber and a pick back. We need some sort of established players for this roster if no Free Agents will ever sign here…just don’t get their thinking ever.

What would be the point of picking up Rolston on Re- Entry waivers?? he has been done for 2 years… Could they pick him up on re-entry waivers, then trade him? or could the Devils trade a draft pick to the Isles to pick him up? Is that legal?

I have no clue what they are doing, and they don’t seem to have a clue either…

  139. avatar PotvinRocks says:

How many teams would get a 2nd rounder for their leading scorer? What’s the point of a 2nd rounder if you’re just going to blow it?
Obviously Wiz wasn’t going to re-sign.

  140. avatar James Tinto says:

This is nothing but a salary dump and nothing more. I am sick and tired of draft picks great idea get rid of the defenseman that score and keep a bum like Gervais wow makes me want to go out and spend $40 dollars for the last row to watch islander defenseman after defenseman miss the damn net by thiry feet. They aren’t gonna score 15 power play goals the rest of the season. I want I reason to go to a game I do but these idiots are only concerned with getting this team to Kansas City as soon as possible and have no interest of putting a remotely competitive product out on the ice

  141. avatar caber09 says:

Lets see what the picks end up being, Garth must have a method…blah blah “IF” & “When” alot, all of us have been waiting for that “IF” & “When” moment for 10 yrs. Fans like you are what continues to give Wang/Snow some leeway. “See Charles, we can fool some of the people, all of the time” “You’re right Garth!”
Method to the madness, we will see what we get in the end, there has to be a good reason, lets be patient, wait until July….is this 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 or almost 2011….look back this has been a common theme of the optimists for years. Its never going to happen with Snow and Wang.

  142. avatar beatlebailey says:

thanks for the xmas present Snow Job!…we now have room for another free agent signing from the scrap heap..grabner, schremp, moulson…who is next!?!?!

  143. avatar Frank says:

    LOL at #13!!!!!!!!!!!! Too funny..

  144. avatar imetbossy says:

Finally! All of you have woken up … stop kveching ( yes kveching… it was either that or write bi—ing ..)Go out to the next home game…Do not buy a ticket and protest outside !! Otherwise venting for SNOW and WANG to step down is tantamount to “going through the same stupid motions” that SNOW and WANG are taking us through… In other words stop kvetching and do something about it …Or do nothing … ! Kvetching only ads to thr frustration. IF I had the money I would buy a full page ad in the POST or NEWS or NEWSDAY telling ( not asking) WANG to step down ! ..Maybe we can use this forum to chip in and do this ???? Action Gents ( and / or ladies) …. CB maybe you can collect the money and buy the ad. ( and pay for WANGS ticket to SHAGHAI with whatever is left over …(one way)…) ….. think about it …

  145. avatar bossjones15 says:

The problem is that the team isn’t building anything, they are in a constant state of mediocrity. Wiz wasn’t Streit but he was an NHL player which is way more valuable than a 2nd round pick in a weak draft. Of course he wasn’t going to resign, who would?!

  146. avatar cjcb says:

lol on a team that has NO players with a + that has played a minimum of 20 games. I dont think you can judge a player on this team based on +-??? The whole team is a NEGATIVE???

  147. avatar Pete says:

When do pitchers and catchers report????

  148. avatar Frank james says:

What player would want to play here?
The team is dreadful (I am sure they are great people).
    The arena is empty.
    The media ignores you completely.
The radio coverage is a college station.
They haven’t won a playoff round in ages.
The Cup days are so long ago most NHLers were either toddlers or not born.
If you are an established player and are traded here you will probably pull a Kirk Muller. As someone who is nearing 40 I almost understand Muller now. All these years of hatred towards him and now I see why he wanted no part of this team.

If they do package these picks what NHLer would want to be here over any other team?

The Wiz deal had to be made but this team is just spinning its wheels.
All these picks it’s like a GD Ponzi scheme. “We take these picks and turn them into stars”. Yet there never are stars, just more picks and the promise that the stars are coming, but we get more picks and promises.

  149. avatar Derek A says:

This team is on the up, I am so glad we arn’t shedding players. Unlike Rol I think Wiz didn’t really bring value to this team. If picks are all Snow could get so be it.

Tampa Bay Devil Rays model here folks, we have done our mistakes (McGriff, Vaughn=Yashin, Peca, DP) Now its time to groom the youngsters.

See ya in a few Stanley

  150. avatar Jim Clark says:

Last game I was at my ticket rep told me Taveras and Wiz were tight. Anyone else here this? Maybe Taveras should consider doing aLindros two years late.

    The wi

Wiz is no Potvin or Harvey but he is serviceable enough. From what I saw on a Montreal Gazette websire, their fans are happy with the deal. But in a league that brags about parity and competitivieness, our team is left out.

  151. avatar rich 55 says:

Good move. Isles now third team to give up on the Wiz who isn’t as good as he thinks he is. Isles gave him a chance to step up and he didn’t. Didn’t hit anyone. Couldn’t defend anyone. Freddy Meyer was better…..well maybe, maybe not.

Folks you don’t get players back for three time rejects. No need to slit wrists over this one.

  152. avatar imetbossy says:

148- Pozi Scheme…. classic …. ! Dead On …and we are all buying into it… WANG=MADOFF.. WANG and SNOW MUST GO!

  153. avatar Scott Sec313 says:

Wiz is not huge loss for a team ranked 29th. Every team in this situation makes this move. Acquired him for a 3rd, got a second and a 5th. Anyone who saw him play saw more mistakes and missed shots then we would have liked. Chalk this up as a positive move. Also, who cares if JT is friends with him. Enough feeling sorry for him, does he feel sorry for us when we see how many points Duchesne has???? Also, enough with the I’m done with this team comments. This is not a major deal that has put this team back years.

  154. avatar geduffer says:

    Standard Operating B—s–t.

  155. avatar Drive4Five....wins? says:

If draft picks/prospects are sooooo great why are no teams knocking down our door to send us a talented NHLer for some of our picks. I know because Wang and Snow suck at life!

  156. avatar Isles fan in Fla says:

I can see the pro & con of this move. Pro- got Wiz for a 3rd and parlayed it into a 2 a few months later. I can also see the con of getting rid of the most offensive d man. My main concern is to see what happens with Moulson. There is no reason not to sign him. Not signing him PROVES they do not care about this team and only about saving a buck. Every thing they have done prior can be questioned but one could say there was a reason for it other than to save $$$. Moulson deserves to be paid some $. Scoring 40 on this team for the last 1 1/2 years proves he can score. Will love to hear their logic if they don’t sign him. Party on Garth.

  157. avatar TC says:

    It just doesn’t matter…it just doesn’t matter…it just doesn’t matter…it just doesn’t matter…IT JUST DOESN’T MATTER!

  158. avatar IslesNation says:

I’m as frustrated as everyone else but to be honest I just can’t keep hating this team that I care about so much. I was watching videos of JT in Oshawa earlier and the kid was such an exuberant youngster. Now he seems completely discouraged. I think this franchise is about dunzo as long as management stays in place.

  159. avatar Andre says:

The only way this franchise has a chance to thrive is if Wang sells the team. Since he is not going to do that there is absolutely no reason to have hope. Snow has shown me absolutely NOTHING.

  160. avatar Drive4Five....wins? says:

Come to Long Island to play hockey. We will take your kids and completely ruin their confidence, careers and ultimately their LIVES as NHLers.

  161. avatar rpchief2 says:

Big picture people. With all these picks prospects and young NHlers they need 6 or 7 to be ligit. then they will trade and or sign proven vets. Snow can then use his assets to bring back talent. the players they are counting on are very young, It makes no sense to bring guys in who will not be around in three or four years. Snow will not break from his plan. If he gets fired then we start from scratch again, still three years away. Tavares, Okposo, Bailey, Nino, brock Nelson, schremp, grabner, martin, Amac, harmonic, Dehaan,Poulin. This is a promising group. They can get rid of every one else when the time is right

  162. avatar Orange&Blue says:

As long as Garth doesnt waste the pick on a Russian longshot. Isles took Hamonic in the 50′s back in 08. Rangers took Stepan around the same the place that same year. Draft a tough Canadian type who comes to play every night, like Hamonic and Martin!!

Obviously, Wiz wasnt that good if he was a minus 21 as our veteran defender. Hamonic is a -2 after 14 games and over 20 minutes a night, and he is only 20. MacDonald is even after 16 games and he logs big minutes. Mac is the best defender on the team followed by Hamonic. Easy to see out there. Jurcina has been solid as well.

I don’t mind the deal but it is a lot of pressure to put on MacDonald and Hamonic. Gervais and Hillen are not NHL dmen! Plain and simple. They need to be replaced. Who is going to step in for Wiz?Hillen and Gervais can not be the answer.
    Who??

  163. avatar ERIKA TENCIC says:

And the wheels on the bus go round and round………..

  164. avatar IsleFan73 says:

Big picture? This team takes no steps forward, and two steps back. Every team has “great prospects”. Post 161, when was the last time Snow used assets to bring back talent? How Newsday and others are praising Snow for this trade is laughable. How about some talent instead of some 2nd round high school kid who will be years away, at best.

  165. avatar cjcb says:

Last year Wiz was -5 his career worst +/- before this year. Every other year he was a positive? In half the games so far Sim has about 100 less shots than last year and 12 less goals??? Anyone think he will pick up the pace or was he a product of playing with good players or is he just having a down year?? sounds like Pa Parenteau???? Anyone think PA makes Tavares a better player??? Anyway i spin this i always come back thinking Wong and Snow have to go before a legit rebuild can start. I mean whats going on with the building how are we going to make this an attractive destination for free agents that arent signing here to avoid the AHL?

  166. avatar Tonelli27 says:

Great another brilliant move by our old backup goalie…Lets just keep racking up draft picks we can’t do anything with because our organization the skill and ability to develop young players…I’m sure that second round draft pick will end up getting traded after a year for some new draft picks so…..who really cares anymore

  167. avatar Tonelli27 says:

    lacks*

  168. avatar MIKE FROM MANHATTAN says:

Wiz should have been locked up for more than 1 year. As someone above mentioned, his attitude is unlike most of the cookie cutter guys in the locker room.
CB – Id love to see you a bit more critical of this team. Who cares about being a practice – let katie strang regurgitate the lines for the next game.
This management of this team needs to be held accountabloe and Larry Brooks cant do it alone.
Ive been hearing rumors of a possible buyer – anything worth digging on that?
Id love to hear someone like Jankowski throw a little mud and give us some insight into the borderline commun ist regime in uniondale.

    Yours in hockey,
    Mike

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, the wonderful wiz of long island is gone!!!!

    To Charles Wang:

As soon as another billionaire is found who is willing to lose $20 million a year owning a hockey team, I hope the NHL forces you out.

  171. avatar ed says:

Why not wait until the trading deadline for actual value. Snow is the worst GM in hockey and he is battling Milbury for the worst in history. Milbury traded away so much talent, but he actually picked those players. Worst team in hockey, worst GM in hockey, worst owner in hockey.

  172. avatar Hud says:

sorry for the third post CB. Great trade, an nhl player for prospects, its a rebuild, it takes time, it will all work out. Wiz is not Coffey, Potvin, Orr, Zubov, Leetch, Stevens, but, he is an NHL player. So, let’s ship him away, no need for those, eh?

  173. avatar Chris Molloy says:

For those who say, look at the value. Isles are getting the 50th pick of the 2011 draft for the Wiz & gave up their 3rd round pick which will be between 61 thru 64. Wow look at that value (it’s called 1.6 million in salary) Garth? 50th pick or 62nd pick is almost a flip of the coin. They could trade picks to salary stap team for good Vet.but they could of done that this year (the year of no excucses & didn’t)

  174. avatar Chris Stephenson says:

Just who is going to play defense for this team? Granted he wasn’t a 1-3, but at LEAST he had experience.

Rebuilding with talent is one thing…throwing inexperience to the wolves is another, and that is what these a-holes are doing.

FWIW, their “DRAFT PICKS” or “YOUNG TALENT” are their investment. The really don’t respect their investments very much if they continue to hang them out to dry night after night.

Rolie is next to go – he deserves to go elsewhere instead of being a human target playing for this mess of a franchise.

  175. avatar isles316 says:

I love this move personally. Wiz has 0 even strength goals and is terrible in the defensive zone. He was moved from Anaheim this summer and that team had a brutal D last year as well. Snow basically turned a 3rd rounder into a 2nd and 5th. This is how you build a team.

    Rolston will be picked up.

  176. avatar Garthsnow says:

That trade just clinched me not buying a ticket until next year.

  177. avatar blumpkin says:

The worst thing that could have happened was the fast start that the team had this year (after that everyone began thinking stanley cup or bust). Let’s be a little realistic here, with the opening night roster that the team had they were bound to have another sub-par season. I understand we live in a “win now” society, but let’s be a little more patient before we all start jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge (which is close to where the team will be playing come 2015). Lars Andersen (I think??) Is the big d-man’s name in this years draft that would do wonders for our defensive prospects pool.

  178. avatar Honnold says:

To me, this isn’t exactly the straw that broke the camel’s back. If we can use picks to move up in the draft and get the Nordic D-Man who’s touted to be a meaner Victor Hedman, I would say all hope is not lost.

  179. avatar Handlanger says:

The only was I’d be happy with this was if we got PK Subban back…
