DiPIETRO BACK TO NEW YORK FOR EVALUATION
Goaltender will miss the weekend games
As reported by Katie Strang of Newsday, it appears Rick DiPietro’s groin injury is not as minor as the Islanders either thought or led us to believe. Although the goalie skated yesterday, he didn’t today and is now returning to New York for further evaluation. He is out for the weekend. Kevin Poulin (likely starter Saturday) and Nathan Lawson are your goaltenders. On a side note, kudos to Strang for her inexhaustable coverage during this long road trip. Tracking down a sub-.500 hockey team in the dead of winter via commercial flights across North America for ten days is every bit as unglamorous as it sounds. Strang works hard to deliver the news as fast as possible to Islanders Country on a daily basis, and she should be applauded. Comments.

Chris, seriously, should this come as a surprise to anyone? It was just a matter of time before DP missed a period of time due to injury. Roloson’s trade was premature, he wasn’t figured to return much no matter when he was traded. Then again, this team is not a playoff contender so what does it really matter
-
O well, not a surprise. Poulin looked good. And we wernet gonna get much for Rollie anyway. If any Isles fan thought we were making the playoffs after the long losing streak, u must be on something. Here’s to another top 3 draft pick. I do feel kind of bad for DiPi
-
Enough is enough already. He should retire on his own, or Wang should buy him out. This is getting old!
-
The words “minor injury” and “DiPietro” shouldn’t be used in the same sentence.
Roloson’s trade was not premature, his value wasn’t going up as teams knew we essentially needed to get rid of him. As the deadline approached teams looking for veteran goaltending could have made other plans or he could have gotten injured. We got a former first round pick, a 6 foot 4 215 pound defenseman. Given snow’s recent eye for spotting good young defenseman (Hamonic, McDonald, jury is still out on Hillen and De Haan but they both show promise), maybe we should see what this Wyshart kid turns out to be, as well as wait and see what other veteran goalies go for around the deadline, before we kill him for this trade.
Besides, we have the Poulin wall so the timing of the trade might have actually been perfect.
-
Who’s backing up Koskinen in BP? When can we expect to get Anders Nilsson on our shores?
-
Heres my evaluation:
Put on a suit and tie the rest of the season. Sit up with Snow and learn the game from a GM perspective. Time to put that BU mind to serving the team in a different capacity.
Poulin and Lawson should be here to stay. -
Oh boy, as if tracking a sub .500 team is any more taxing than a .750 team?? Snark much?
-
Islewangers either underestimated or lied about the severity of DiPietro’s injury? I am shocked, simply shocked.
Good excuse to play the kids. Take the rest of the season off, DP. See you in September.
-
Isn’t it time to claim Letington of waivers, or call Legace or Manny Fernedez?
I loved seeing Poulin but I also don’t want to rush him.
Yes, I do appreciate her work on Twitter. She do like all the info that she provides to keep us up with the team. She is a one horse town. Did you have a good relationship with her? Not sure if she ambitions to take her knowledge of the team to radio and TV, because you were dismissed right after Scott Gordon and were on every radio and TV station. I thought that maybe Wang was pressured by Tom Dolan because his employee wasn’t asked to do 1 interview. -
Deeee Peeeee needs to retire and collect insurance.
-
Our ” CHOSEN ONE ” has arrived ! 1/6/11 ! BTW Anders Nilsson > Mikko Koskinnen ! Poulin and Nilsson will be a scary duo !
-
Time to call up Cody Rosen!
-
Anazing that a NY pro-sports franchise is not covered by the Daily News or NY Post. Newsday doesnt cut in in northern NJ. Hats off to Ms. Strang though.
-
I’d think that the fun of covering a contending team would certainly make up for some of the drudgery? (Incidentally, beat reporters don’t get to use the team charter?)
If this team were competitive, the DiPietro situation would be a major distraction. It must be a waste of the team’s energy to carry around a goalie who can’t go more than a couple of weeks without getting hurt. It doesn’t much matter this year, but if they get it together, they don’t need this nonsense.
-
they should just sign nabokov.
-
No news on Frans’ groin? With DP news, I can’t help but groan and roll my eyes. His body’s made of paper mache. The Avs have been a very mediocre team over the last few weeks, so hopefully we can skate well and that Poulin & Lawson stay composed and don’t get killed. If they go down, does Garth dress?
I’m glad for Katie’s coverage, sure, but it’s her job to keep us informed. CB, I’m sure any of us would love to switch places with her and get to fly around some of the best winter spots in North America. Banff and Denver in January? Sounds plenty glamorous to me!
-
Ok, while I agree that barring a significant change of fortune for the better (us) and for the worse (about 8 teams in front of us), we’re not getting a sniff of the playoffs. That being said, there is something to the young guys learning how to win, even if a Cup won’t be their immediate prize. With Roli, the team won, and at minimum, the young guys knew that they had a real backstop. From what I’ve seen, Lawson is a nice story, but having him and a totally green Poulin – who looked great last night, but is still 20 and wasn’t expected to be up this soon – reminds me of the Yann Danis – Joey McDonald duo of two seasons ago. And that was a horror show.
Just pick up a damned vet goalie, please. Send Poulin to the Bridge to play consistently and well, and have him ready to start up here next season. Lawson, not sure what to do with him, but I guess he’d be fine as the backup as we led a vet goalie ride it out the rest of the season. Young guys need to win. Having swiss cheese behind you will only lead to tenativeness and low confidence.
-
I like Strang… there is not much you can do with hands tied over being objective for an organization that is pity party of the NHL.
One thing is that her tweets and that of those of #NYIslanders are almost identical in time and words. One might think she is the ghost “tweeter” for the official Islanders tweetiverse.
-
dp should be our #1 backup.
-
Yeah, Katie’s reporting and tweets have been much improved in the last month or so, IMO. Just seems like she’s calling it more like she (and the rest of us for that matter) sees it, more candidly and with question. I personally have great appreciation for both you and Katie, Chris.
As far as DP? Feel sort of bad for the guy but not at all surprised.
Like others I am really digging the whole Poulin vibe!Get the feeling that someday there is going to be some sort of a *Shakespearean* episode (Et Tu, Brute?) between Snow, CAPTAIN Weight, DP and whoever else clamoring to be Wang’s Numero Uno.
What a trip. -
I know Poulin’s young, but I don’t think he’ll be “rushed” up here. Even at 20 years old, if you’re 10-4 on a mediocre AHL team with a 2.13 GAA and .931 save percentage you’re ready for the NHL. The season is lost, DPietro is falling apart, why not let him get used to the NHL now?
-
Bad knee, bad hip, bad groin, DP retire your hurting the team’s future-sorry its not working out.
-
Dipietro should become a goalie coach already. I wonder if he could even handle that job! Maybe give him a title of assistant gm…
-
How long until the team comments saying “Ricky has not played his last game this season for the Islanders”? Because last year…
-
This could end up being Kevin Poulin’s best chance to win the starting NHL goalie position and never give it back to Rick Dipietro. A 20 year old goalie, a defense lead by Amac and Hamonic, and an offense run by Tavares, Moulson, Bailey, and crew. Essentially, this is our future. I don’t expect a lot from them right now, but competing for the rest of this season will be a good sign.
-
Let’s all say it together:
“This is why you do not sign any player to a fifteen year deal, espcecially a goalie!”As an Islander fan it seems for as long as I can remember there is always some kind of issue. Whether its an ownership issue, or an arena issue, or a damaged goods goalie with an erroneous contract issue. And to make it worse when one fire is put out two others spur up.
When can this organization get out of it’s own way and why do such loyal and passionate fans have to be punished? I truly would like an honest response to my question?
-
Rick DiPietro is hurt? No way.
-
Only the NY Islanders could trade away one half of their goalie corps and then have the other half get injured the next game.
I’m trying soooo hard not to make a remark like … DP’s next stop is assistant GM …. sooooo hard … but it’s difficult.
On a positive note … Lawson and Poulin may be taking a step towards the future a lot long than originally planned. The positive part? Well … Even with Nate’s hicup last night … He and Poulin may get some good NHL experience this winter… and perhaps DP is going to end this torturous comeback.
-
I’ve always been a big fan of DP, but enough is enough. The progress of this team will be severely stunted until he is permanently off of the roster. The goaltender position has been an unstable sham since his initial injury, with the priority always being to leave a door open for DP at the expense of the on-ice product. DP should be moved to the PR department, a legit veteran should be signed to a short-term contract with Lawson as the back-up, and Poulin & Koskinen should be give another year or two in the A before one takes over on the big club and the other is traded.
-
Also real glad we traded our starter, only for DP to get injured immediately.
-
I am not a big DP fan, and I have never really bashed him. I respect his efforts in his endless rehab, but when healthy, I thought he was an average, over hyped, goalie. Lets please stop with the retirement stuff. It’s not happening, nor is a buy out anytime soon. If I was the owner, I would let him play himself into shape at Bridgeport for half a season, but that’s not in the cards either. I am afraid we fans are stuck with this saga for many more years to come.
-
Boring. Who cares about dipietro anymore? He isn’t even that good when healthy. If it weren’t for the mickey wait minnie mouse franchise giving a average goalie a lifetime deal this wouldn’t even be news. If this was the last year of his deal and wasn’t besties with wang he would most likely be looking at a 1 year 2 way deal, if lucky. On his mosty healthy day he is still a backup on 50 percent of the teams. 2 more years and he will be backing up poulin and we can finally stop talking about him.
-
DP stands for Don’t Play!!
-
DP. Sorry man, you were one of my favorite player but enough is enough. You need to look at your own health on this one cause if you keep injuring yourself at this rate you’re gonna have to face these problems for the rest of your life. Good luck and I’m sure the fans would love to keep you somewhere in this organization. You’re a class act but you need to realize when its time to hang it up…even though it will be earlier then it should of been.
-
We want dubie!!!!
-
Wish DP a quick recovery, but this just show how little respect Garth No Excuses Snow has for the paying customer. There was no need to trade Roloson 2 months before the deadline. To say he received max value is a lie. A few days to a week is when you will receive your best offers. He lies all the time
-
DP got new vanity plates for his car: IM on IR
-
where are all those people that said the 15 year deal was good…we stink because our fans will buy anthing and hold no one accountable..
-
Best thing for the team since Boss and Trots! Go Poulin!
-
In the military there is a short range plan and it is called tactics, and there is a long range plan and it is called strategy. My point is that the Isles seem to operate only on a day to day policy whether it is PR or playing personel. That is proper for most situations in every aspect of life. However there seems to be no real strategic plan for the future of the team except the preverbial “rebuild” Charles Wang needs to step up and tell us even in general terms what he sees as the future of the team. “We will be here until 2015 will not fill the seats in the NVMC. Next season a crowd of 7,000 will be a big crowd.
-
Agree get Leighton. Cannot be any worse than Poulin or Lawson. Don’t wreck the future by pushing Poulin too soon. Rotate Poulin, DP and Lawson as back-up. If Garth says he can spend money then why does he not do it?
-
Good Riddence Rikety!
rather see Poulin and Lawson anyway! -
Modells in Sayville is selling all DP jerseys for $50.00, I’m not making that up.
-
To the guy above me, CM. I read on Twitter a quote by Leighton was very disappointed being put on waivers. He was expecting to be the number 1 this year after signing his new contract and had that derailed by an injury. Obviously we’re very familiar with this sort of thing, but I agree, it wouldn’t hurt to grab him on re-entry waivers. Some anaylst said Philly won’t put him on re-entry unless they know a team is willing to take him. I can see that happening more and more as DP’s future becomes more dim. Here’s to a successful off-season.
-
DP reminds me of Chad Pennington. Good guy, tries real hard, rehabs like crazy, but body just won’t let him perform at the level necessary. Let’s go with the kid goalies and buy out DP’s contract.
Look at what happened when the Jets went younger with their QB….and where’s Chad? on the IR…again… -
Let’s see Poulin develop…I simply hope the exposure to the NHL so soon doesn’t hurt that development. He’s going to get pummeled by shots.
-
Nabakov w/o a doubt should be signed to a 2yr deal and let Poulin develop for 2 seasons in the AHL.Lawson should remain a backup for now and DP should retire. The Isles MUST sign some key vets next year to stabilize this team.Sending some players to the minors isn’t a bad thing especially if they start winning down there.Winning breeds winning period. So if we cannot consistantly win @ the NHL level then lets @ least start winning in @ the Bridge. This organization is a long long long way from becoming average.
-
Hang it up DP! Hang it Up! New chant NVMC. Another Milbury gem. No offense to him because I think he cares and tries but it is over. Poulin is future Lawson is 27
-
Okay, enough already. We all want nothing more than D.P. to have a long successful career with the Isles. NEWSFLASH!!!!–It ain’t happening! I love his heart and his love for the team and fans, but how many years of wasted progress does 1 team have to endure? Give Ricky a goalie coach job, or assistant G.M, or something where he does not get hurt every other day. Some of the best players ever had to retire due to injuries (see Mike Bossy). And where is Weight?? I heard he is skating after 4 months of being out,oh goody, He may actually play for a shift this year. I feel sooo much better! Garth, Can you please throw money at players who actually play! (Uhm,Moulson?)If this much patience is a virtue, then we should have the cup by the end of the year. C’mon guys, are you running a professional sports team or a disability company? I do like our young players, and contrary to popular belief, I believe this team could be real good, real soon. We need more stability at the top, and i or 2 talented vets to show the core how to win!
-
DP has had surgery on his knees 6 times and 2 hip operations…According to a Physical Therapist…And because of the surgeries DP is in no condition to play hockey in the NHL or at any level…So why the smokescreen from management…Why don’t they just tell us what the real deal is with Rick…Obviously the contract is an issue…Time to come clean Garth!
-
DP retire already!!!!
-
Re: “We want dubie!!!!”
No we don’t:
“G Wade Dubielewicz has been released by the Cologne Sharks (DEL). Dubielewicz had a 2-8-0-0 record, a 3.90 GAA and a .879 save percentage with the Sharks this season.”
-
Gee I can’t believe DP is hurt again. Ok, sarcasm off.
Pick up Leighton or Nabakov and send Poulin back to the Bridge so he can develop properly.
-
My guess it’s not only the groin and it has something to do with the knee!
-
The Italian name DiPietro in English means FUBAR.
-
This piece of puke continues to fleece money from the Islanders and now the best part, they will ruin the development of another top prospect. Or better yet, they will trade him when they find out DP is “just fine”.
I have said it before, people, you can’t make this stuff up.
-
Couldn’t agree more with you Chris. Strang’s coverage, under difficult circumstances, is superb
-
How many years left of this to we have to suffer through? Oh, 12….
This team is a joke anyways, send Poulin down so he can develop properly…maybe they should look up properly in Webster’s.
-
Imagine that! The Isles front office misled their fans & media. Can’t believe Garth would do that. NOT!
-
anyone who is schocked that this so called injury was nothing but a minor tweak and may play the next game as mgt. said is now suddenly something much more serious probably thinks wang is a great owner committed to winning, spends money on his team, has a great scouting staff and mgt. team behind him who he lets do their job. i said earlier this week that for the next 10-12 years or so, this nonsence will continue with d.p. because wang will never admit his mistake and he would rather hurt the team then move on without d.p. their will never be any consistency with this team because of the d.p. situation. i said d.p. should hang it up after this year for the good of the team. i also believe the ridiculous rash of injuries that hurt this team every single year is more then a coincedence. wang is too cheap to have the proper training/development people and equiptment needed for a professional nhl team. one reason wang cancelled the china trip was the nhl said wang had to have the proper safety measures in place but wang was too cheap to do that. sad but true. the injuries will keep on mounting every year and mgt. will say at first that this are nothing but minor injuries. things will never dhange for the better as long as wang owns the team.
-
The Newsday coverage is much improved indeed.
I confess to a level of apathy vis a vis DiPietro. It is all so EXPECTED by now. He always says and acts the right way towards the fans but I guess I am just over the whole situation. I keep moving on after each injury of his but with each comeback I care less and less.
Am I crazy or does Poulin have a style that is reminiscent of Luongo? That Butterfly is very distinctive and we have not seen a true true B-Fly goalie here since Milbury traded our previous Heir Apparent.
-
I’m tired of hearing how Roloson was traded now so we could get something in return. How many draft picks and young projects does this franchise need ? What’s wrong with a proven veteran for leadership who gives you a chance to win every night ? Who can teach young guys how to win instead of how to rebuild ? We have no veterans that contribute meaningful minutes now that Eaton is down and Mottau and Hunter and Weight (captain who never plays). The blind faith management shows DP reminds me of Dolan and Isaiah Thomas times 10. Sick and tired of talking about future draft picks !
-
I understand Poulin is GREAT, but can who socialize, wine, and dine, Wang the way Dipietro can? Does Poulin have the personality Wang looks for in a role model? If not, Poulin will be unloaded or simply not played very much.
-
Bonzo was right…DP looks done. Bring Nilsson over to work with Mikko in the bridge next season and let Nate battle it out with Kevin- loser leaves town…
-
Cueing Gomer Pyle…
Surprise, surprise, surprise!
-
Oh well, no big deal. DP has played his required dozen-or-so games this season. Let Lawson and Poulin carry the load for the rest of the way. They’ve both had decent AHL experience. Welcome to the bigs, guys!
-
Of course its more serious its ALWAYS more serious than they tell us. We never get a straight story from this team. Personally I think this DP stuff needs to end.
-
I’ll keep saying it, it would be best for the Isles on ice product if Dipietro goes away. I feel bad him. No one wants to see someone’s career and their passion taken away from them over injuries but if you put personal things aside, it would be best if he went away. I don’t think we can ever count on him again to play a full season and we can’t go into every season wondering and signing an extra goalie just in case and take away playing time from poulin or koskinen either in the nhl or ahl.
-
DiPietro’s body can not handle the rigors of being a starting goalie in the NHL! That is why he has had some many injuries and that is why he will continue to have injuries. Hips and knees are very important body parts for goalies and he has had surgeries on both. DP and his laundry list of injuries should not even be an story any longer. Honestly, when he is healthy, however long ago that was, he was good goalie, but not great.
Kevin Poulin is a story!! I hope this kid steals the job and soon even though cry baby DiPietro will do everything in his power to prevent it.
-
I am concerned about Poulin getting shelled & losing. The losing culture on this team needs to change and grooming him into losing immediately at 20 can’t be good. Why is Sim cemented on line 2 or 3 and gets 14min a night. I must be missing something. Martin on 4th line playing 8 min & Sim who is useless playing 14min. Please wake up. And hello, a little movement and creativity on the PP will help. Not standing there and pass around the perimeter.
-
Isles01 #61, I hear where you are coming from but the more picks and prospects we get, the better the team can stay. Using an NFL reference but the Patriots have found a way to be awesome for years and have kept trading away players that they won’t have around for picks.
-
If the Isles don’t handle DP correctly and if they drag it on for another couple of years, you won’t get any legitimate goalie to come play “back up” to a cursed DP.
-
Poulin should be developing in the minors and not thrown to the wolves like everyone else on this team. We need to breed a winning mentality and what better way of doing it then a bridgeport playoff run. Poulin had a lot to learn and constant pounding will beat on him like our other young goalies of the past. If a player can be sent down do so.
As for last night the isles didn’t skate and out work the other team and that is why they lost. The other thing that bothers me is the lack of the quick shot. While the club was winning they would take quick shots. Last night was the 2nd straight game that I saw grabner and his line get the puck and hold it way to long only to have it blocked or stripped. Guys shoot as soon as you get the puck. Good things will happen.
-
Draft picks aren’t worth much when you have no one in amateur scouting. Plus picks are like playing the lottery. Sometimes you win, most times you don’t. Stop dreaming of a roster with all rookies and sophomores. No veteran presence is going to hinder the young players development.
A Veteran = 260 NHL, AHL and Euro league games.
DP,Weight,Bruno,Hunter,Frans,Sim,PAP.
Those are a sad group of vets.
-
I forgot Eaton and Jurcina too. Hockeydb.com doesn’t list them for some reason.
-
It’s not about making the playoffs, it’s about developing a culture of winning. As a fan, it’s tough to see a good guy like DP find himself in such a tough place; how could anyone think that he had any chance of making a full recovery with the hip and knee issues. That depth of reconstruction might work in baseball, but not in hockey.
Rollie provided veteran leadership and consistency which a young developing team – any team – needs. However, if the plan was to bring up Poulin, I’m all for it. Great to watch. If DPs not done, I’ll be surprised.
-
I was never too keen on trading Luongo/Jokinen for Parrish/Kavasha and drafting DP and not Heatley/Gaborik from day one. But the damage has been done and it’s almost time to turn the page on Mad Mike’s number #1 gift to Long Island.
While I feel sorry for Ricky, it’s apparent that his body can’t hold up no matter how hard he rehabs and cares.
People told Chairman Wang not to hand out a 15 year contract, but no, Wang never does the normal or smart thing (or listens). But he wasn’t the only one who gives out foolish contracts, look at Lou Lamorillo with Kovalchuk…..
It’s almost time for DP to walk away for someone else (Poulin?) who can play without tweaking various body parts. That was painful watching DP pull his groin in Calgary. Where is Rolie when we need him? With Eaton done for year with guess this: a hip injury. Snow should bring up Ty Wishart and see what he can do.
It’s time to turn the page!
-
Everyone likes to bash DP for being injured and tell him to retire and leave the team. I can guarantee to everyone who thinks they are frustrated with him not being on the ice, that he is 10x more frustrated than each and every one of you combined. He is a competitor and he works hard every day to be ready to play. To describe his injuries, it is nothing more than sad and unlucky. The only thing us as fans can do is support him and wish him a quick recovery. Hopefully him and Poulin can be two solid goalies in the future with Poulin carrying the load to not overwork DP.
Get well Rick.
-
Why not have Poulin play at the NHL level now? He’s 20 years old (same as Hamonic). With Rolie and DP gone he’s getting more ice time then he had down at the Brifge and the 3 headed goalie rotation.
Dunham can also spend additional time tutoring him.One final point, Barraso came out of high school and was pretty successful his first year…how about Patrick Roy’s first season?
-
A new era is beginning on the Island…
Hope Rick can get healthy, It’s sadly starting to really look like his body can’t hold up to being more than a back up, as a fan I take it and feel for him.
Thanks to Katie and Chris for the coverage.
-
Poulin eats pieces of you know what like DP for breakfast.
-
DP is a sad situation! Mind say’s yes, body say’s no!
Is Okposo in the witness protection system?? The Isles cover-up injuries better than Madoff covered up Losses!! -
kevin poulin is the best thing that has happened to the islanders but its a shame the media wont cover him because of dipietros contract. the newsday article in the loss to edmonton had one line about poulin at the very end, didnt even mention his debut. no one knows about poulin because of the dipietro contract (which would have been an awesome deal if he stayed healthy) but poulin is going to be a top nhl goaltender and as an islander fan, im crossing my fingers that they stick with him if he proves it
-
Yes Katie Strang covering hockey for our beloved Islanders. Does she get paid for this job? I wonder b/c if she does I would gladly take her spot and take those cold commerical flights and report on my favorite team. As fans, some of us put in just as much work without getting paid. I have invested thousands of dollars and hours of my life rooting for this “sub .500 team” in an endless dead of winters.
-
CB love ya.. but please do not act like covering an NHL team under .500 on the road is such a terrible job. Appreciate her work but if it is such a horrible assignment im sure we could easily find a replacement to cover this “pathetic” team. Coming from a recent college grad looking for a job. RELAX my man.
-
CB, I’m with D fReSH #85. Not a ‘recent’ college grad, but a massive number of sports fans (and non-fans) would gladly take Katie’s job in all its current conditions. Every beat writer for teams, regardless of record, has challenges to deal with. They go with the territory. And despite the Islanders being a bit of a joke, they’re still an NHL team.
-
#22 Matt 85: Exactly. He’s going to be a NHLer soon anyway so let’s play him and have him used to the environment. I mean, it’s not like he’s under pressure this season, it’s already lost. Maybe he’s in the same mould as Hamonic he just thrives.
DP? What is there left to say? I liked the car plate joke.

I could not agree more!
I’m glad someone else is on the same page with me. It’s so sad to see the hate and antimosity towards DP like he’s some selfish idiot.
I don’t know if I can add more, you said it so well.
-
Got to chuckle over the people falling over Poulin. Yes, he played well. But it was Edmonton. They are almost as bad as the Islewangers. Let’s wait quite a few more days before we decide if Poulin is Billy Smith or if he is Hardy Astrom.
-
DP is and will be the best goalie for a long time. He already played more and better than you expected. Maybe you dont deserve DP
-
CB-I am greatly disappointed. How could you ever give kudos to a shameless reporter like Katie who Never dares write the truth about anything negative or embarrassing about the islanders management. She is a prime example of why no one buys newspapers or has any respect for journalists. For example-when is she going to stick up for you and write an article exposing and criticizing management for the terrible action taken against you which is an act of censorship and an affront to a free press? She won’t because she writes PR for management and is not a true journalist like you.
-
Maybe Snow should be concerned….Rickey may have his job soon!
-
I’ve seen all the Brideport goalies play and believe me Poulin is the best. He’s calm doesn’t get rattled and I think he can handle this situation. There have been plenty of goalies brought up at a young age to face NHL competition. He has all the tools plus he has the size. this is not a bad thing. We all feel bad for Rick but no one player is bigger than the team. This team kind of resembles the 75 team. Young kids getting a chance to play and growing together. BUT I’m going to be upset here if they don’t start signing the core of young kids and adding a few veterans to shore this team up.
-
I hate to be the devil’s advocate bjorn holland but 3.45 gaa and .889 svp after 16 games does not make one “Best”. It makes one sucky and undeserving of #1 Goalie status. In 1982, maybe.
-
Chris,
How does disability work with hockey players? Is Ricky insured so that at some point he retires due to disability, the team doesnt lose money as DI kicks in? -
Hey Garth, still regret trading Roloson?
-
Maybe the Devils would be willing to trade us Marty Brodeur?
-
DP’s days as a reliable starter are gone. Make him a twenty five game back up and lets move forward already.

This is the circle of life. When DP and Snowy were splitting the goalie chores at the start of Rick’s career, management always gave DP the push over Snow because he was a #1 pick and they had to justify it. For that first year, Snow was clearly the better goalie, but they kept throwing in Rick to the team’s detriment. Ultimately, DP did become a very good goalie, but he has been the beneficiary of preferential treatment his entire career. Reminds me of how the Jets keep trying to get Sanchez over, even though he will never be a franchise QB. Sorry for the rant, but it bugs me big time. Anyway, good luck Poulin. The King is dead. Long live the new King.

Lets be careful not to “Fichaud” Poulin.

This team does not resemble to 75 team in the slightest. Sorry.
-
I really dont think we have to worry about Poulin being up here. He seems like a kid with a lot of confidence. If you can stop shots in the AHL you can stop shots in the NHL. Same puck.. Are people worried he will face too many shots? Stop babying these young kids and let them play. Look around the league at some of the stars in the NHL. How old are they? They are in their early 20′s and so is he. Stop worrying people and just have fun watching these kids play.

I don’t quite get all the negative ruckus about DiPietro and calls for him to retire and all the rest. We all know the contract didn’t work out as planned, but why do all these people still dwell on that? The team isn’t contending yet so it doesn’t matter if he’s playing now or not, and there’s absolutley no reason to give up any assets to bring in some other goaltender no matter who it is. Poulin can get some experience, maybe Koskinen will too, and they’ll go with Lawson in a bunch of games. If DiPietro comes back, fine. If not, also fine. What’s the big freakin deal about it.
-
as much as i like what i saw, i agree, i dont want all the pressure to be put on Poulin. He has alot of confidence now. You dont need it to be destroyed. With Goalies confidence is everything. Look at Carey Price when he was rushed in. That adrenaline from first few games wears off. That said, Looks like he was something special
I want to see this kid Wishart play. -
We are not bashing D.P. He cares and truly wants to win. Personality wise, he is an asset to this team, however, his body can not handle it, period! If I were him, I would do the same thing, keep trying to come back. I just don’t get how many years of “coming back for 2 games” this team can endure. Surely, at some point, management has to have the talk with D.P. We want you in this organization forever, but for your own health and for what is best for this team, we need you to accept another job within the organization. This team needs to get on a good groove, and without stability, that is really hard and it’s a shame!

I love the logic of some fans…..we weren’t going to make the playoffs anyway, so lets trade the few veterans we have. This way we have no one to school the kids. Rinse and repeat. This so called rebuild is going nowhere.
-
Dose #104. “the bigfreakin deal” is that DP gets paid 4+ million dollars per year on team that makes the salary cap floor by still paying Yashin.
-
If Garth Snow was a Salesman, his Manager would have fired him a Dozen times already. Isn’t Garth supposed to sell tickets. This DP thing is a JOKE! Who would spend money on this “Pitch” ?
-
Gary#46..excellent comparison to Pennington
Jim Clark#90…thanks for the flashback to Ralph Kramden’s favorite goalie……..
“Har, Har, Hardy Strom!”This whole situation is like re-marrying your ex-wife. By whatever ways or means, it’s time to cut bait with DP. I applaud his effort, but his body just isn’t cooperating.

Too bad Newsday want to charge for the internet or I’d read what she writes. I refuse to pay for Newsday.
-
I think that if we had a normal owner who cared more about the team’s performance than one individual player with whom he has a personal relationship, the owner would be looking for ways to get out of this contract.
-
[sarcasm on] Boy, that Cody Rosen draft pick is looking like sheer genius now. [sarcasm off]

If only those of us that don’t get Newsday could read the articles…Either way, her twittering is awesome.
