POULIN SUFFERS KNEE INJURY IN WARMUPS
Koskinen makes NHL debut in 5-3 loss to Toronto

by Chris Botta on February 8th, 2011 at 9:28 pm

9:35 pm: Kevin Poulin suffered what could be a serious injury during warmups before the Islanders’ 5-3 loss to Toronto tonight at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. According to Katie Strang of Newsday, Poulin appeared to catch his left skate in a rut in his crease while taking shots “before flipping over and falling down.”

The Islanders announced during the second intermission that Poulin would undergo an MRI on his left knee on Wednesday. Looks like Mikko Koskinen and Nathan Lawson – who has resumed practicing – will be the goaltenders unless Garth Snow makes a deal or waiver acquisition.

While Joel Martin was making his way in a chauffeur-driven town car from Bridgeport, Koskinen made his NHL debut and allowed two goals on the first two official shots on goal that he faced. His teammates gave him no help, especially on the first goal when the Islanders were out-numbered in their own zone and allowed Colby Armstrong to skate in untouched before firing a wrist shot from eight feet past Koskinen. The slow start by the Islanders was a disappointment, considering the Maple Leafs played in Atlanta on Monday and were playing their fifth game in eight days.

After falling behind 2-0, the Islanders woke up. Matt Moulson scored on the power play off a perfect feed from John Tavares. Soon after hitting the post on a breakaway, Michael Grabner – the man is certifiably an offensive weapon – scored his eighth goal in his last eleven games on a rebound of a point shot by Andrew McDonald. The Islanders’ defense tightened and Koskinen shook off the nerves and made some outstanding saves.

Martin arrived in time to wear No. 34 and sit on the bench at the start of the third period. Tomas Kaberle walked, and walked, and walked, in from the point and scored at 2:34 of the third, the result of Islanders forwards being out of position. Nikolai Kulemin scored six minutes to make it 4-2 and Frederic Sjostrom out the game away with five minutes left with a goal Koskinen was not happy about. Rob Schremp tipped a Milan Jurcina slap shot to close out the scoring at 5-3.

The Islanders fall to 2-2 since the All-Star break and 17-29-7 for the season, last in the Eastern Conference and 29th in the NHL.

Poulin’s injury obviously set the tone for tonights dour night. The ongoing string of injuries just adds to the ongoing challenge of this very long season. Thanks Chris for posting.

  2. avatar Chris Stephenson says:

    This is a cruel joke.

In my life I have never, EVER, seen a rash of injuries like the Islanders have been suffering.

Watch Poulin has a torn ACL and will need a year to rehab.

The curse of Rick DiPietro I am telling you. This is the last black spot, the last tumor, the last gasp of negativity on this organization. This is the hockey Gods invoking a 15 year curse on this team for signing DP to that contract.

Sounds silly? Hey, it’s as good an explanation as any at this point. All reason has gone out the window as far as I am concerned.

  3. avatar Staten Islander says:

He didn’t play bad considering his D didn’t help him all that much.

  4. avatar Mike for Philly says:

Great move trading Roloson in Decemeber Garth – shows me you have no clue what you were doing, I think you could have gotten the same return come trade deadline. Also, what was there 5,000 fans in attendence tonight? Another awesome hockey season on Long Island. Thanks Garth Wang.

  5. avatar BillyBC says:

Thanks for posting CB. When it rains it pours. In our case, its been raining since 1994. “Comments on tonight’s victory and Poulin’s injury are encouraged in Comments.” You mean loss right? Ugh…

  6. avatar Steven says:

Can anyone explain all the injuries for this team? If Poulin’s injury tonight does not prove curse I don’t know what does. I thought we were done paying for the Cups?

  7. avatar kbelanger33 says:

I’ve had it with this garbage. Why cant this team play with some intensity, passion, grit, etc. We never throw a big hit and never answer for a big hit thrown on us. (ex:hit by phaneuf on tavares). I can take the losing but not the lack of heart. I much rather would have seen Gillies on the ice at the end of the game instead of pulling our goalie, like we are actually going to score twice and come back. Put Gillies out-let him take a run at someone. NO HEART, NO TEAM TOUGHNESS, warm the bus up!

  8. avatar Joey says:

Since the only thing we are playing for is a draft pick, I hope we lose as many games as possible. So it doesn’t bother me in the slightest about all these injuries.

  9. avatar Tom D in NJ says:

A curse? How about long term mismanagement.

  10. avatar Steven says:

The old barn has not hurt us enough it now has to hurt our top prospect.

  11. avatar eric says:

    what can you say.

  12. avatar Isle be a Fan says:

Why does Bailey stink so bad ?

  13. avatar Anthony L says:

I can no longer stomach this franchise- we are cursed from top to bottom. I’m going next Thursday and I am literally dreading the experience. I hope we’re sitting near an attractive ice girl or two.

  14. avatar Steven says:

It’s true 10 but there has been problems with this team long before Wang took over.

  15. avatar Ken Fellon says:

No team toughness at all. Phaneuf was allowed to do whatever he wanted and run anyone he wanted. This what GArth wants. Tavares won’t stay around here to take a beating every night and not have anyone watching back.

  16. avatar Beavis Goring and Butthead Howie says:

There is definitely a curse on this team with the injuries, and the losing too. This team plays so soft year after year. Goring talking About the Isles waiting for the right oppurtunity to get back at Phaneuf.WHAT!? is he nuts. The oppurtunity has been there for about two years. C’mon Butch!

  17. avatar C.J. says:

    Sickening.

  18. avatar Oye Comeau Va says:

How this team plays right now is not the issue, they’re not going anywhere. The only issue is Poulin. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst. That should be the Isles fan motto. If he is 100% by training camp consider that a victory. This season is lost anyway.

And stop with the should’ve, would’ve, could’ve with Roloson. If he weren’t traded yet who is to say he wouldn’ be injured too? If you admit the season is lost then the Roloson trade has no bearing on what happens the rest of the way.

  19. avatar Jmig15 says:

Hey, anyone watch the Garth Snow Live segment….I didn’t..anything of significance? If i watch it I may throw up a little bit, so im trying to stay away.

  20. avatar PotvinRocks says:

Maybe we should sign Billy Smith. He is about the same age as Roloson. And so far Wishart reminds me of another player on the Islanders named Bruno Gervias.
I’m sorry but I thought that Rule #48 was “blindside hits to the head”, where was the call on Phaneuf on the Tavares hit? It was a hit the head and because the Islanders scored right after that, it got washed under the rug. If there is any justices in this league Phaneuf will at least get a phone call from the league.

  21. avatar jon from nj says:

I just feel bad for these guys…honestly. I don’t know how else to feel. Snake-bit, injury-riddled. I don’t understand how in 2 out of the past 3 years, we have the most man-games lost to injury? With DiPietro, obviously his stupidity is to blame…but with the others, I don’t even know what to think.

  22. avatar chrisM says:

#18-oye comeau va- I disagree.. tHe biggest problem with this team right now is the way they play. How can you say its not a problem, when they show no heart or toughness. It’s year after year-thats the scary part. Not only do we lose, we get embarrased physically night after night. Sorry Zenon but This franchise has become a doormat.

  23. avatar Tony says:

There are no words to say at this point….

  24. avatar JD says:

Butchie got a raw deal when he was fired as the Isles coach many years ago, but the problem back then was that night after night he would babble about great efforts and how they were getting better and better, when in truth they gave little effort and looked worse after each game. He has since carried his happy horseshite insight into the broadcast and it is simply annoying. Koskinen had a fairly good night??? How is 5 GA fairly good in any context? He was great for Hockey Night Live, but not the booth. I love the guy, but please make a change for next season.

  25. avatar booten326 says:

SO SICK of hearing people bash Garth for trading Rolo. WHAT, pray tell, WHAT would have been the purpose of keeping him till the deadline or even at all passed the point they traded him? Tampa would have been long down a road with a different option by now and we all know the Isles get no respect in the trade market. WE ALL KNEW he’d do well with a better team surrounding him because he’s a good goalie so quit the BS! All you fans will always find something to bash regardless of how correct the move was. Sometimes, and more often than not lately, I find myself disgusted at our fans. Yea, you all may be tired of our rebuild but the reality is we are still in the time frame WE ALL expected the rebuild to take. You guys and gals need to just go with it, there’s nothing as fans you can do to change the path they are on. DEAL WITH IT, WE ARE ALL SICK.

  26. avatar Brian G says:

At least Jose Reyes was in attendence to see his first hockey game…

Poulin went down like the way DP went down when he got punched by Brent Johnson. If there was a rut in the ice next to the crease, that is a disgrace. No excuse to the ice crew of the coliseum, how could there be a rut in a fresh piece of ice in the crease area…What did Wang only allow them to keep the refrigeration system on for a few hours before the game b/c it would cost more money to keep it on longer….you can’t make this stuff up anymore.

Will there be a Nabakov sighting, maybe Garth will play on thursday night for all we know….sfter he tries to convince Nabakov to come…….Could Snow trade for Cory Schneider…or maybe the Horrible Marty Turco? Maybe Dubie is on speed dial!

I want to see the GM between the Pipes this week, that would put an exclamation point on this season….he will sign himself to a $10 dollar contract.

  27. avatar JT says:

Hope he’s OK. One of the few bright spots this season. A great story. He should be a big part of the team for years to come.

  28. avatar Brother Rat says:

Horrible. Pathetic. We’ve plateaued at the worst in the conference. The only good thing I can say is that at least Wang didn’t lose (or gain…) any money with Madoff.

  29. avatar alan says:

Potvin Rocks, I couldnt agree with you more. Ty Wishart, standing 6’4, weighing 220 pounds, might be the softest player I’ve ever seen on skates. He shies away from every contact. Other than Martin, this team doesn’t believe in throwing their bodies around, and they let Toronto physically manhandle them tonight. I have 4 games left on my partial season, and after tonight, I am counting down the games because this is it. This organization is a laughing stock, and will continue to be until they leave the county.

  30. avatar NYIchamps39 says:

Given the way Poulin twisted his knee around a fixed pivot point on the ice, bet on an ACL injury. We cant win here on long island. Now we will really see the true nature of Evgeny Nabokov. This team is decimated. If he doesn’t report now, he doesn’t deserve to be a member of any NHL team moving forward.

  31. avatar Tom D in NJ says:

With a fragile DiPietro and the goal to develop our young goalies in Bridgeport, trading Rolloson for Wishart in my opinion was a bis mistake.

  32. avatar Daryl says:

JT needs some serious toughness on his line. Matt Martin, Trevor Gillies, or Konopka, someone needs to be on the ice with his line to make the other team pay for taking shots at him.

  33. avatar Brian G says:

Koskinen said he is confident that he can be the starter while he scratches his head and looks very nervous with the media asking him questions……this doesn’t look good at all….this mickey mouse organization really hit another low point.

  34. avatar Adam M says:

To bad with Poulin he was doing pretty good hope its not to bad on the game they were sloppy the D wasn’t good either hopefully we re-group and play better

  35. avatar Darren says:

Tough for the kid. Hard to explain all of this sometimes?!
I love Grabners play, maybe reaching here, but reminds me alot of one Bob Bourne?

  36. avatar Marc says:

As Howie Rose and Chris King said tonight, “you can’t make this stuff up.” With Jose Reyes in attendance, I’m surprised Howie didn’t make a “I can’t wait to get to spring training” comment. Then again, the Mets are probably as close to being eliminated from the playoff chase as the Isles are.

On a serious note, I feel horrible for Kevin Poulin, especially if the injury is severe.

Regarding Garth Snow Live on Islanders.com, in my opinion the segment was a waste of 15 minutes consisting of canned questions and canned non-answers.

  37. avatar Harry says:

To the people saying the team plays with no heart, I wonder how much heart y’all would have getting your brains beat in nite after nite in front of 5 thousand people. Pretty damn demoralizing wouldn’t you agree????

  38. avatar Erika says:

Once again, BAD MANAGEMENT. I don’t buy that anyone could have such bad luck, the reason the Isles do, is poor decision making by Wang & Snow. No goalie should rehab for 4 yrs. Rick has been tying down this situation for way too long. Either they have 5 goalies or 0, because we are never sure if Rick could play more than 1 game at a time. we always seem so unprepared. Also, I have never seen so many players who get injured in warm-ups, or pre-season with such serious injuries. This team needs a trainer that stresses stretching or some form of preventative workouts. Sigh, looks like the players are now mimicking management, trying to wear too many hats and failing.

  39. avatar islesrock73 says:

I give Snow credit for the Moulson, Grabner pick-ups. After those moves, he gets a grade of F. We have way too many players that play like sissies. A rebuild with size and grit is possible. The goalie situation, in my mind, is a complete disgrace, and if I was the owner, I would fire him for this alone.

  40. avatar smurfs ON ice says:

This is a new all time low. What can you say at this point.

  41. avatar goislesgo105 says:

Why do the hockey gods hate us so much? WHY??? Will it ever end?

  42. avatar Tom D in NJ says:

I take my hat off to the majority of our players. They have been thrown to the wolves with no support from management (ie: bringing in some vets). Im surprised were not loosing some games 10-0.

  43. ChrisM- The way the team plays now is not as important as this kid’s health. He is a legitimate #1 goalie prospect and a lower body injury, as we all know too well, is not a good sign for a goalie.

This team is not a fair depiction of what it was entering the season, or will be heading into next. The D will (fingers crossed) be healthy and we get back 3 vets that can log over 18 minutes a game. No more of this Gervais, or Reese stuff. Obviously Garth has work to do. This team NEEDS to acquire more physicality. He has to (fingers crossed) realize that after tonight. Goalie… well that’s another story.

  44. avatar Is it Spring Training Yet? says:

Not many positives from this game. Koskinen had no help, he’s not to blame.

  45. avatar Jim says:

Probably a torn ACL which would be a shame. I really feel like this guy is our franchise goalie. Oh well…typical islanders.

This makes another great storyline for my script I plan on selling to Lifetime.

  46. avatar AFIsle says:

He wants to be juuuuuust like dipietro when he grows up!!!

  47. avatar robert says:

i am in schock! i dont believe it. no. i am not talking about the latest injuries to the team tonight. i am talking about wang paying for a cab for a backup emergency goalie when snow and goalie coach dunham were in the building. hopefully in a year or two, poulin will be as good as new. why worry? remember director of scouting wang picked a gem in last years draft for a goalie in the 7th. round. cody romsen if i am pronouncing it correctly fits in perfect here. he accually played one whole period of hockey in his school career. if that doesnt tell you what a great goalie he will be, nothing does. like i said, with nhl players using the isles as rag dolls and with wang paying what ever minimum he can get away with, not only player wise but strengh, conditioning, phyical, developmental and medical wise, this nonsence of injuries will continue regardless of getting stuck in a rut of ice. when you run a nhl franchise into the ground without regard to the outcome in every way possible just to save a few dollars, this is what you get. like i said before and i will say it again, as long as wang is here, this franchise is doomed.

  48. avatar isles08025 says:

A couple of more meaningless wins and we could be picking 4th. Can’t wait to see Martin in goal. On the bright side, Grabner get the 3rd star

  49. avatar JTizzle91 says:

This team has to go to a church and get blessed! Hope for the best and plan for the worst with Poulin! Good luck Kevin!

  50. avatar Chris Governara says:

Jesus hate’s the Islanders. That’s all

  51. avatar Jim Clark says:

Poutine’s skate got caught in a crease in the ice? Just how good is the quality of the ice? Do they make in by turning on a garden hose for 15 minutes and then opening the doors?
It’s only his first game but the Finnish Seive was AWFUL. He’ll be better in two yers. Which is what we said two years ago about Josh Bailey.
If you think we feel bad, just think how Bruins feel seeing the Leafs win and worsen their draft pick.
Was Jose Reyes in the house because he heard a Canadian team was in town and thought someone could recommend a doctor to replace Tony Galea?

  52. avatar StevieL says:

Just sick to my stomach about Poulin. A kid with so much promise. Please God, do not let it be a severe injury.
Also CB, how is Stan Fischler allowed to go into the locker rooms after these games and try to get our young guy’s to throw each other under the bus!!His question to Mikko about whether he felt his team mates left him out to dry was out of line. A young kid who doesn’t have command of the language in his first NHL game is going to bad mouth his team?? He also asked Grabner his opinion and whether he agreed with Moulson saying that the team let Mikko down! What purpose do those questions serve? other than trying to create problems within the team. CB they take away your credentials but allow that crap!! Cmon Stan, you should be better than that!!

  55. avatar JoeShmoe says:

#2 are you serious? How many pathetic attempts do we have to see the DP haters continue to connect him to anything negative? You know what! That 4th goal was DEFINITELY DP’S FAULT TOO!!! YUP!!

  56. avatar csk says:

    what a wacky game

I like how Bailey is emerging and Grabner as well

we have better prospects at Forward in my mind after tonight than we have all year, which is even more bizarre

Poulin better be fine next year

    much more optimistic for 2011-12

  57. avatar isles316 says:

The Isles have been near the top in man games lost to injuries now since the lockout every year. What is it? Training staff? Bad luck? Bad ice? Small and young players? All of the above?

I can’t believe Poulin got hurt in such a ridiculous manor tonight.

  58. avatar Blizzard says:

Like I said maybe people will watch looking for the next catastrophe….unfortunately it was in warm ups and we missed it.

  59. avatar cbagwillie says:

oh well, it is what it is. i will still watch for the rest of the season

  60. avatar Turgeon77 says:

Tonight was a complete embarrassment…no heart…ANOTHER WANGTASTIC SEASON

  61. avatar THollinger says:

Isles lack team toughness, and a respected heavy weight to play and skate with the stars…I am worried about JT’s future. He scores his goals from the dirty areas, which is where opposing D will “make you pay the price”. Bossy had Gillies and Trottier and one hell of a tough team behind him. If the isles don’t address this, JT is going to develop concussion problems before he even has time to develop into a man.

  62. avatar Brian G says:

Who is Joel Martin? Wasn’t he a reliver for the Mets a few years ago.

What is next Wang will turn off the lights while play is going on…my brother has played many times on the Coliseum ice and said its terrible……but this is ridiculous for an NHL team

Who will play goal thursday and the rest of the season? what goalies are even available….where is Yan Danis when you need him? Maybe a College Free Agent?

  63. avatar bm says:

The problem as I see it is that Jose Reyes is in NY at an Islander game rather then in Fla getting an early start with David Wright. Im sure he will slip on the ice in the parking lot and tear his hamstring. Being a Jet-Met-Islander fan is torture and I should be arrested for child abuse for making my kids be the same.

  64. avatar robert says:

on a added note i just read thatkattie strang tweeted that konopka said the total disregard for taveras being constantly abused is detramental for the future of this franchise. are you listening snow clue? also collitins upper body injury will be revaluated tomorrow. that means he will be out for the rest of the season.

  65. avatar anthony says:

WOW, Just WOW!!! there are just no words for this travesty. Usually its just DP we have to worry about and us fans are used to the defense getting decimated every yr but this is just plain old UNHEARD of. Lets recap, lead the league in man games lost to injury, I would LOVE to see what this team COULD have done if for just a few games we can see the lineup that was intended to start the season. I feel with KO and Streit NOT being hurt in fluke incidents this team would have won more, given up LESS goals cause Streit played like 25+ mins a game and KO is our 2nd best Forward and make others around him better. Who knows maybe with a healthy KO all yr we just maybe could have had 2 lines that can score. That would have taken MUCH LESS pressure and opponent game planning less on JT and his #’s would DEFINATELY have been better BUT he is doing just fine considering his situation, being a 1 line team that every1 gameplans for.

Now to goalies, we are used to DP getting hurt since 2007-2008, so that was expected. Then Rolison getting traded was quite premature, we wouldnt be as bad in a situation as we are now if we held him til the deadline and gotten the SAME EXACT PICK GARTHY BOY!! Then Lawson came up, yeah ok he’s good. (sarcasm). Next actually we were BLESSED with Poulin, he is the real deal and his Save pct% if he played enough games to qualify would be tied for 2nd in the NHL and top 7 in GAA on a last place team. Now he gets hurt in a fluky way, THIS TEAM IS JINXED! lets continue shall we tonite we see the debut of Koskinin, 5 goals and 2 pretty bad ones, sure thats something to be optimistic about! Then in the 2nd int of the game tonight we see how fast Joel Martin flew here from B-Port, i swear it must have been record timing getting here.
NOW TO THE BITTERSWEET GOOD NEWS.

I think we just locked up the #1 draft pick in the WORST DRAFT IN YRS. The top 3 picks are NHL reay BUT are not hyped like Crosby, Stamkos, and JT. Time to FLIP THE PICK FOR AN ESTABLISHED STAR, thats the only way they are coming and we know that. Money MUST BE SPENT IN THE OFFSEASON. witt’s 1.6 mil comes off the buyout books, yashin’s buyout payment goes from 4.7 to 2.2 mil. Then Weight is retiring and he over 35 yr old player scam of a contract counts 4 million on the cap even though his salary is 1.1mil. gotta love that one right??? So according to my math, give or take 8.1 million is off the books and MUST BE SPENT. So if we stay at the cap floor, Moulson got a 1 million increase and Jurcina got a 600K raise so thats 1.6 mil added so take that from 8.1 and we still got 6.5 mil to hit the floor. then we know how garth and wang chung works with RFA’s standard 10% increase qualifier, take it or leave it. Comeau, maybe Schremp, DEF Bailey after this year’s performence and Grabner can all expect that. KO i think if he shows more scoring can expect a real negotiation cause he is the FUTURE along with the obvious JT so he will get the silver spoon. Besides KO all the other guys qualifiers will add 2.5 mil to payroll, dropping us to 4 mil and lets say KO gets a 1 mil increase from his 1.67 mil deal, we still have about 3 mil to get a top 6 forward. 3 mil gets a 25-30 goal scorer, just see Moulson. Good luck all and HAPPY DRAFT DAY, hopefully trade that 1st pick for a top gun but prepare for the Sean Coultaire kid or whatever his name is. Garth says ” this kid Sean is the FINAL piece of our rebuild and now we will wait until 2015 when we leave to see these young men develop and compete for a cup.”
MAN THIS HURTS, it really stings!!

  66. avatar anthony says:

chris #2 this is EVERY YR but usually its just the D not the goalies other than DP. We all expect DP hurt so it dosent hurt when it happens!

  67. avatar anthony says:

The old barn caused this injury i was told. Due to the HORRIBLE ICE CONDITIONS there, Poulin got caught in a rut in the ice and game over. with the attendance they get and for saftey reasons they should just play home games at Iceworks.

  68. avatar The Danish Backhand of Judgment says:

I understand this wasnt a conditioning issue but there has got to be something the team can do about all these injuries. We have lead the league in man games lost two years in a row. That doesnt just happen. maybe new doctors or a new strength and conditioning coach. Either way this is just unreal, maybe they should bring in a priest to exorcise the demons.

  69. avatar THE PORK CHOP EXPRESS says:

Can Weathertech make some mats that will protect our players? This is beyond the saying “it can’t get any worse.” Everytime we have something positive to root for, it is taken away from us. Hopefully, it is not severe.
As for the game… This is the 2nd straight game where the opposition played physical and took liberaties against our young players. The refs are allowing the head jabs, and high sticks to our players. When that happens the team needs to take matters in their own hands. The primary objective with 5 mins left should have been get even with Phaneuf and set an example to the rest of the league. This team needs to develop a desparate wolfpac mentality which is to attack and out work the oppposing team. As for a morale booster… How about, “you get to make a living playing a professional sport while getting paid a lot of money!!!” Lack of morale is inexcuseable!!

  70. avatar peter debenedetto says:

    play of the night……

the driver of the car that got the backup to Uniondale from Bridgeport in 90 minutes!!!!

  71. avatar claude says:

What are the chance’s you lose two starters in a week?
If DP had a facial facture why was he so able to talk so effortlessly during his exit interview without any apparent facial swelling? Just saying
Maybe it’s time for some certain goalie to jump off the injury train and man up.

  72. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

I’d be shocked if Poulin played again this season and really, what’s the point? The other issue is Koskinen shouldn’t be in the NHL now so when Lawson comes back, Snow has to go out and get a veteran goalie. Woulda been nice to take a shot on Emery, but I guess we should make sure the guy actually would play here. Wow, the last 30 or so games are gonna be tough to watch.

  73. avatar Frank says:

Wow. I am starting to have flashbacks of Danis and Joey Mac in goal a couple years back. This situation is awful similar!

  74. avatar Matt says:

I am not going to agree with this curse theory going around here. That’s baby talk. Let’s just face it this team sucks! Except for J.T, Matt Martin, Matt Moulson, P.A, K.O and…. that’s it. I’m suprised 24000 even can watch this team. I turn on the game and suffer 60 min a night. Hahahaha. This is crazy now. Trevor Gillies is our “tough guy”, but I didn’t see him make any attempt to get away from the referee, when poulin got knocked over the other night. As for Stan Fischler I think he’s a d-bag ranger fan. I wonder if life alert take him to the games. If he can’t see he’s a total moron who makes these stupid retarded points with these 5 for Fishler crap, or trying to tear a locker room apart with asinine questions, then how the hell can he drive a car. Hey Garth do me a favor go be a politician, you certainly would fit right in since you didn’t answer any of the questions the fans asked you in the “live segment”, because you definitely can’t manage a hockey team.

  75. avatar gordy lane says:

Was at the game and walked in right at the anthem. I notice Miko is in net and no extra goalie on the bench. The guy behind me tells me that Poulin got hurt in warmups. could not believe it. A few quick observations about tonights game. I gather they do not want to overwork KO since he is still trying to round into shape but did not notice him on the PK and only was on the ice for the PP as a forward on his lines shift. KO had a few different conversations with Phaneuf and a few others had wanted to get a piece of him without just mugging him altogether but he was to chicken to do anything about it. But it was funny as soon as a back was turned he would shove somebody and then go to the bench and start talking crap. What a wimp! Grabner and his speed is like waiting for that big home run hitter coming to bat and you do not want to get up and possibly miss something. Bailey looked better and seemed to make the right decisions. So let me get this straight you like Poulin and the way he is playing but then he gets hurt in a freak injury and you say we never should have traded Rollie. I like PA and that line has played well but maybe it is time to put Martin on that line for some protection for JT.

sorry for posting twice but what are we fans doing to help this franchise? what are we doing to keep the isles on long island where they belong? we need to do something that will make wang sell/change his ways. we need to do something that people will notice.

As one of the select few who was at the game, I can tell you that Mikko is NOT NHL ready. Not even close.

Lots of guilty parties tonight. Backchecking was a real rarity.
AMac is trying to do too much. Stick to your own game, you can’t do everything.
Hillen is also guilty of jumping in too much.

Somebody needs to play DEFENSE here.

#19- dont waste your time. He says he will “explore all possible avenues to improve our hockey club” 20 times.

Why can’t we just have a legitimate General Manager.

there s no such thing as continued bad luck, injuries etc.BUT THERE IS A SUCH THING AS CONTINUED MISMANAGEMENT.WANG HAS GOT TO BE THE WORST OWNER IN PROFESSIONAL SPORTS

Sigh. I mean, we have had a lot of setbacks this year but this..Kid is supposed to be our #1 keeper. Something that gave me hope for the next season. Let’s just hope things aren’t too bad with his knee although leaving the barn on crutches is not a good sign.

There is no curse only the fact that Islander (mis)-managemant is unprepared (again) and does not have a prfessional goalie to put in net.
And as much as I like Butch goring.. he has mixed, drank and served enough kool-aid for a lifetime. Last week he noted how the Islanders were lucky to have so much depth at goal! They don’t even have warm bodies. Last nite he praised the rookie goalie for a decent performance…..huh? Can we have some honest please, it’s OK we can handle it and deserve that respect.

There are simple general manager “rules of the road” that every GM needs to know/follow to be successful. What would the Islanders have to give up to get Roloson back? I bet a lot more than Ty Wishart. This is why you dont trade your goalie too soon. You can bet the Islanders wont be trading for a goalie now. My best guess, Garth will be gone at the end of the season.

The long segment “On the fly” did about the Flames just made this feel so much worse. They went from being on our level to actually in the playoffs in season ended today. One paper they are not better than we are nd we played one of our best games in Calgary. Shows what firing a gm can do, but I don’t blame snow for trading rollie. Poulin’s injury is a symptom in a greater problem, no grit…imagine what could be if capuano/gordon just said something like “DP I don’t give a blank about your knee “swelling” get out and do your blank-ing job” if coaches nd players each yr let injuries become an excuse this team will never be good

  86. avatar Jack says:

Wang has walked away from tough players time after time. Goddard, Asham, Erskine, Sutton have all been sent walking in favor of small, weak players with no heart or grit.

i was at nvmc and was watching warmup, didn’t catch the moment when poulin twists, but the way they carried him off looked awful. just hope it’s not a tear and youth makes for a quicker healing, but i’d guess it’s weeks at best.

first in-person look at wishart not promising. not only he doesn’t hit, he doesn’t get within ten feet of anybody. he could have closed down armstrong on the first goal, for example.

this team needs a coach. the defense on the fourth goal literally fell all over themselves. i know the material is what it is, but at least some sense of order…

tavares could put a little more power in his game, even if he takes a knock or two. there’s no point pouting on non-calls. i almost think he should pick a manageable situation and drop the gloves. although to do it for this team…

This just sucks all around. But I’m am Islander fan for life and I’ll take the good with the bad. Maybe the goalie we should’ve gotten rid of is Garth. It doesn’t matter how many first round picks you have when your front office from the coach up to owner sucks it will reflect on the ice sadly.

CB- … Unfortuneately … Anything written about the Islanders this season reads like a Greek Tragedy.

I’m hoping KP’s injury is minor and his recovery is very quick. The kid has a lot of potential.

I’m just disgusted by the way this team gets thrown around on the ice. Its been going on consistently since Snow took over. If he doesn’t address the lack of team toughness he should be fired. Of course he has no money to spend but you can get grit and toughness at a reasonable cost. If I know the team will battle and scrape every game I’ll keep watching even though they are going to get creamed. However, if they are going to just roll over, I refuse to watch that.

Was at the game last night, and was wondering why Koskinen was in net. When I got home, and found out why, just totally killed what was an enjoyable night with my nieces and nephews. I am hoping beyond hope it was not as severe as it looked last night, as Poulin was emerging as one of the few brightspots from this season.

Koskinen let in a couple of softies to start. Going into the third, I go to my brother that with the Leafs playing the night before, the Isles should have the fresh legs. Talk about a disappointing effort for the first 15 mins of the third.

  92. avatar bill says:

Not to nitpick, but I think it was a Martinek one-timer that Grabner put home the rebound home on.
