ISLANDERS 4 BOSTON 2: NYI best-since-December 16 celebratory Interactive Postgame Plus/Minus

by Chris Botta on March 11th, 2011 at 9:34 pm

9:30 pm: The Interactive Post-Game Plus/Minus after the Islanders defeated the Boston Bruins, 4-2, on Friday night at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum…

Minus: The season started on Oct. 9 and could end April 9.

Plus: Per Eric Hornick – With their win tonight, the Islanders have tied the Bruins with the most standings points in the Eastern Conference since Dec. 16.
(See what I did there? I flipped it into a positive).

Plus: The Bruins had not lost a game all year in which they had a 2-0 lead in the second period.

Plus: The Islanders’ comeback was as impressive as it was inspiring.

Plus: Kyle Okposo.

Plus: We can debate what’s real and what isn’t in this comeback, but there’s little argument about Al Montoya establishing himself as a quality NHL goaltender.

Plus: Matt Moulson scored his 29th goal, one of his biggest of this season because it was scored with two seconds left in the second period. Michael Grabner scored his 28th.

Plus: Islanders finish the homestand 4-0-1.

Plus: Jack Hillen, who could use a break, scored the game-winner.

Plus: Once the Islanders got the lead early in the third, they didn’t give up a lot of scoring chances.

Plus: Kyle Okposo, Michael Grabner, Frans Nielsen and Andrew MacDonald will take part in a Q & A at the NHL Store in Manhattan on Monday at 4:00 pm. The event is open to the public, but get their early because the place is not large.

Plus: Did I mention Billy Jaffe is moderating the Q & A? Since The Jaff is clearly one of the league’s lead voices at the Network, NHL.com and the Blackberry shows, good work by the NHL in making that happen. Wouldn’t be surprised if the Islanders also record a roundtable segment for NHL.com and “On The Fly.”

Plus: Although Rangers season ticket prices have been raised for next season – MSG is citing the “transformation” of the Garden as the primary reason – Islanders season subscribers have reason to believe their price points are safe after more than a half-season of $20 ticket deals. For fans in the Country, there’s also the good news of a much-improved team that will make a serious challenge for a playoff berth in 2011-12.

Plus: Are they challenging for one this season?

PLUS -JT’s pass to moulson…his passes are incredible off the boards

  2. avatar Tom D in NJ says:

Plus: I’ve been saying “wow” alot lately!

  3. avatar BIGSAVE77 says:

I am so excited about this team it is unbelievable. Grabner’s speed is awesome Montoya is controlling his rebounds the defense is playing well. Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to the 2011/12 stanley cup playoffs in which the islanders will be a part of.

  4. avatar rick says:

    na, na, na, na, na

  5. avatar volmeeezy says:

plus: being in south carolina but my grandparents (loyal isles fans n original season tic holders since 72) having NHL center ice. great win!

  6. avatar islestherapy says:

As excited as I am about the team, I know that DP looms next year. Montoya will not stick around to be a backup … another step back.

  7. avatar Chris A says:

A win tomorrow night and its definitely game on for this year

  8. avatar islesrock73 says:

Plus: Garth Snow. I have ripped him most of the year. Now he deserves many accolades. Grabner could be a steal of the century. Grabner did fall into our laps by the boobs in Florida, but Snow did not pass him up. Fair is fair, with his budget, Snow may prove to be better than I thought. Time will tell. What a win tonight!!

  9. avatar Rob (in Pgh) says:

This team has been a lot of fun to watch since December 16. It’s hard to discount their play because of the lack of pressure nonsense when it’s continued (with some ups and downs) for 40+ games.

It might be too late this year but I am definitely excited about the prospects for the Isles future.

  10. avatar AFIsle says:

Biggest minus ever———- My internet provider lost service to our whole dorm right b4 moulson score and gets back up one minute after the game ended.

    Plus- isles win baby!!!!!

Plus- isles did not get pushed around

  11. avatar 91NYfan91 says:

Its really remarkable how grabner gets at least a breakaway a game. grabner, nielsen, okposo line is playing unbelieveable.

  12. avatar Exilesurfskim56 says:

The Neilsen line is unreal. A power forward in ko, a two way player in frans and a sniper in grabs. Hot dam!

  13. avatar Grandma's boy says:

Plus: No Nabakov leads to Montoya

Plus: Incredibly exciting hockey and cheap tickets fill the barn

Plus: being an Islander fan. Just win baby! Would love to see 80+ points this year

  14. avatar Alex in PA says:

PLUS: JT’s “lack of playmaking ability”. I’d love to see what those are saying after seeing that beautiful pass!

  15. avatar Drive 4 Five says:

Im liking these Friday night games! This team is fun to watch again. This is how you play 60 minute hockey. We havent done it with regurlarity in a long time.
    MINUS-Dipi comes back next year.

  16. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

The Isles have had runs before but now they seem to be outplaying, outshooting and outworking opponents on a consistent basis which is awesome to see. I guess if the Devils are in the playoff race, the Isles are too now.

  17. avatar Will says:

where are all the people who wanted to trade jack hillen now lol, he had a very solid game and has been playing well for the past few, getting back to the point where he was before he got hurt last year. JT just keeps getting better hes starting to make some sick plays and that no look pass to MM was just awesome. Grabs i mean every time he touches the puck he brings the crowd to its feet, we really just need to get solid net minding next season and we can fight for the 5 or 6 seed. cant wait to see this team next season

  18. avatar Cdu says:

That first half of the 3rd period was amazing. Beat the devils tomorrow and they could be 8 points out of a playoff spot. Long long shot but I keep my hopes up! Why couldn’t they have squeezed out 4 or 5 games during that losing streak!

  19. avatar Kbelanger33 says:

Fun to watch again. The kids have some heart. Maybe some good free agents notice how this team plays and ends the season strong, attract them to the island.
    -Can you say Flyers-first round!

  20. avatar mike"thesuitcase"sillinger says:

Plus: i’m sure every isles fan is used to asking themselves in the middle of the season “will this team ever win again?” haven’t asked myself that since december
Plus: Garth Snow that genius son of a b*tch
Minus: DiPietro skated at practice yesterday
Even: Okposo and Hamonic=the bash brothers haha
SuperPlus: haven’t missed a game in 3 years and howie said it best the die hards will be rewarded

  21. avatar Andre Legault says:

Feels so good to be a long time die hard NY Islanders fan. We’re not a single win from the Stanley Cup but there are reasons to seriously believe in this rebuild. Kudos to Garth. He had to stay patient and avoid any shortcuts. He did. And it’s starting to show.

  22. avatar adam M says:

Great Game the boys didn’t give up they battled with the big bad Chara he sucks anyway i can’t wait till next year!

  23. avatar Blackwasser says:

Plus: a major league NY coach that is coherent in a post game interview.

Grabner is surprising opponents with his speed.

Okposo is the man, but he needs to do something about that dreadfully slow wind up.

Love watching Hamonic showing grit in front of the net and protecting his goalie.

Nielsen, it was worth the wait.

    What a great win.

  24. avatar Tom D in NJ says:

Always thought Snow was a resourceful GM, but like Wang,a flop in building trust and positive pr with fans.

  25. avatar rob says:

plus: Capano he has these kids playing great. Cannot wait for next season Grabner is this years 1st round pick keep winning.

  26. avatar gordy lane says:

not to say montoya is going to be a top teir goalie but got to give the coaches, team or garth some credit for the pickup and changing the angle on his skates. got home from work and turned the game on a minute to go in the second. great job of not sitting back when they got the lead.
If colin campbell cannot rule on any decisions about the bruins because of his son. But he does rule on every other team. His decisions on other teams especially in the division could help the bruins in the standings overall.
I could be wrong but I thought Anders Kallur got his head rammed by Mark Messier into the corner metal bar and the end of the bench. Afterwards they started to tape that big piece of gray foam on the corner of the benches for protection. I do not even think he got a penalty on the play. Does that sound familar or it was just some wierd islander delusion.

  27. avatar Staten Islander says:

    I LOVE MY HOCKEY TEAM!

Hey Nabakov, stay home, “whats the point?”

DP is the backup next year, In big Cubano we trust!

I am PROUD to bleed Blue and Orange

I have my hockey team back

  28. avatar Derek A says:

plus: win 13 games in a row and sportsclubstats says we have a 80% chance to make the playoffs

plus: if we can loose 14 in a row we can win 13 in a row

    plus: opus LIFE IS LIFE

  29. avatar sean says:

Gotta give Garth a lot of credit now, and for all those doom and gloom comments from fans on how he is drafting. It’s not even a finished product yet. Future looks really good for the team and islander fans. We just need a new arena now.

  30. avatar Jim Clark says:

Behind babALu Montoya and the steady defense of Bruno Gervais, tye Islewangers vault over the Florida Panthers. We’re number 13! Say it loud and say it proud! It is too late to make the playoffs after that 1-17-3 dtretch where Ro- lose-on got the majority of the starts. But just six months for the start of the 2011-12 season

  31. avatar Doug F says:

Plus- Grabner…does he have jets on his skate blades or what…
Plus- Montoya…he will be signed for next year and beyond.
Plus- Garth Snow for picking up Grabner and Montoya.
Plus- for the Islanders for not giving up…You Gotta Believe!!!

  32. avatar Bob E says:

Was at game. Might be best 60 mins effort. Great team effort. Booing at chara was uncalled for. He didn’t have ill intentions. Imagine if we still had him on blue line

  33. avatar darth vader says:

Here’s another plus: an elite team actually respected the Islanders enough to use its #1 goalie rather than give the guy a day off.

  34. avatar Zenon Rocks says:

Minus- Capuano in the post game interview saying the refs called a solid game. BS. That 5 on 3 to Boston was a gift, and Chara is twice the size of Frans…what a dive on the cross-check.

  35. avatar Erika says:

    Tavares with some sick stickhandling!
Grabner, Wow, just wow! So much fun to watch. He has to be the favorite for rookie of the year!
    Hamonic hanging tough!
    AMac with some smart decisions.
Moulsen, the real deal, and very golden!
Jurcina in the lineup= Isle win
El Cubano playing like a #1, can’t wait til he beats the rags!
Gervais, ah, gervais, oh well, no team is perfect! GO ISLES!!!!!!!!

  36. avatar Kbelanger33 says:

#28- i agree. That was a flop/dive by Chara. The league already missed their chance on his paccioretty check, now they are gonna protect him against a flubbed Frans crosscheck.

  37. avatar James from Swindles says:

It’s tough not to get excited about this team, especially when you consider that for intents and purposes the same group of 20 will be back next season.

Realistically speaking, to hit 90 points this season would require a 13-0-0 run which is probably too much to ask, but a strong finish makes the last three months something to build on.

Re: DiPietro; while there is alot of praise being heaped in Snow’s direction lately, if there is one big, consistent misstep (besides banishing writers covering the team), it’s the team’s insistence on continually throwing DP back out there once healthy. I feel like a lot of fans’ ire would be averted if they would just send him down to Bridgeport to get his game on track, rather than having the team and its’ fans endure his rusty play each time he comes back from injury. It’s a disservice to everyone involved.

  38. avatar John89 says:

Don’t look now but Long Island has a real NHL team back.

  39. avatar Hud says:

As I stood at the Staples Center and watched the Isles leave the rink in November, I did not see this coming. Kings fans were laughing at me in me in my Isles jersey, as Anaheim fans did the game before. What a run, I have no idea what Grabner was doing before he got here but it’s amazing what that kid can do. Lots to look forward to.

  40. avatar 16 expiring says:

Great performance by the club tonight. Hey, I’m happy that they’re giving us fans something to be excited about and something fun to watch!

  41. avatar Onesinceforty says:

Great Win! I scored $5 bucks from my Boston fan college roomate from this victory. Super pass by JT on the goal but he got scorched on his coverage of the Horton goal. He needs to be a step tighter on defense in the slot. Still, I love the chemistry on the team. Rhetorically, where do veterans like Eaton, Mottau, and Hunter fit with this group? I wonder if they add or detract from this combination of players. Someone do a stat comparison for the last three years of what the record is while DP dresses. I don’t anyone would be shocked.

  42. avatar ts22 says:

JURCINA MUST HAVE A RABBITS FOOT IN HIS POCKET :) AND HE ACTUALLY HAD SEVERAL HITS. THAT’S ANOTHER PLUS!!

  43. avatar Oren says:

PLUS- Relentless push for offense with the 3-2 lead. It looks like they are learning to win games…and that is a
HUGE step in the evolution of a winner.

    MINUS-Gervais still getting BIG minutes.

PLUS-Grabner could have had a hat trick

MINUS-Grabner who was arguable the most active player offensively and defensively was not named one of the 3 stars.

PLUS-Montoya. Steady, solid, does not move around a lot, stays in crease, stops pucks.(exact opposite of some we all know).

PLUS- Tavares’ line and they way they worked for that goal was a very nice combination of finesse and hard work.

PLUS-I can say I have felt this way about an Islanders team in the past but the truth is even in ’93 those guys weren’t this young. They were kinda ragtag…Thomas. King, Mullen, Ferraro…etc. These guys are 20,23,27,25,21. Okposo, Tavares, Bailey, Hamonic, Comeau, Grabs…Poulin..etc.

Plus- Isles fans getting pumped again, at the Barn and at home!!

  44. avatar Kevin says:

Gotta love it CB. I love how you called it a plus/minus. I also love how in your last “Plus”, you sound as delusional as I do when it comes to the Isles! Playoffs “11 baby! Best win of the year tonight

  45. avatar Steve M says:

Awesome game to be at. The crowd came alive in the 3rd period and made it fun. Let’s keep this ball rolling boys!!

  46. avatar tenistee says:

The Islanders gave up on the season and traded Wiz but Kept Gerveis. The Franchise will make the playoffs once in the next 4 years at best as long as the penny pinching ways continue. Or will they buiild a cup winner with the lowest payroll? C’mon…

  47. avatar GlenS says:

MY BIG MINUS of the night that didn’t happen on the ice.
What the hell were Howie and Butch talking about in the 1st period (I think).Saying that the hit Chara threw on MTL’s Pacioretty wasn’t that bad what was he thinking trying to skate through Chara. What morons he was trying to get to the puck that was no longer there, yes a penalty was called for interfernce but if you watch the video he did bring his hands up into his head. But hey what was Pacioretty thinking right Howie and Butch.
OH yeah LETS GO ISLANDERS WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

  48. avatar Staten Islander says:

I got so used to rooting for them to lose at this time of year so that they would get a better draft choice that I almost forgot how much fun it is when they go on a run like this. The heck with draft position this year, lets build a winning culture and continue that into next year.

  49. avatar moonshine says:

minus – the first period. boston had dropped some points this week and really tightened things up. islanders looked downright wobbly on the first goal.

plusplusplus – how many guys in the nhl can serve up a surgical pretty assist with two seconds left in a period like tavares did?

minus – the boston fan behind me who didn’t say anything except ‘interference!’ ‘high-stick!’ ‘holding!’ all game long. i shoulda asked him if he’s a ref. :)

plus- the road work on rt3 in nj was on the opposite side tonight, so instead of crawling i sailed right home.

anyway, i wanted to see if the islanders could play with a contender. after the first period the short answer would have been, ‘no.’ but by the end it almost reminded me of ali-liston. not saying the islanders are THAT good, but they ran boston pretty rugged at times. the bruins played tough but essentially clean.

  50. avatar eric m says:

curious if the isles were just fishing for a netminder, or went Montoya because they saw a correctable flaw. normally i’d say fishing, but our GM seems to do a real fine job at these “below the radar” signings. once is luck, twice a coincidence, but GM Snow has an impressive track record. a lot of small to medium good moves, and he has avoided signing mistakes.
i’m not crazy about losing janks, but GM Snow is getting it done on the small stuff. thats says alot about his prep work, attention to detail, and the advisors around him.
i’d really like a top 4 pick, but the joy of winning games, its not overrated.

  51. avatar greg h says:

Plus – Great Islanders Come back win.

Plus – Lets go Islanders, say it loud and proud

Minus – I was not at the game

Plus – the fans filling up and all you guys here

  52. avatar Blizzard says:

Plus- I took my daughter to her first Islander game!!!

She is a good luck charm. I have created a fan….

Plus- watching all the Bruins fans bum out after they where getting loud early on.

  53. avatar robert says:

the kids on this team deserve all the credit with a big assist to their coach cappy who will be back and deserves to be. however this off season will be a big test for wang and snow. i read a story on the bleacher report where it says the fans have suffered so long and this team next year can be a legit playoff team if wang and snow add a d veteran to help thekids along with a big scoring foward to be on the first line. this wont happen because that costs $$$ and wang will never add payroll to improve the team. we can only hope the kids continue to improve. montoya is a big plus to the team and i do give snow credit for that. it will be a shame that next year the team may go backwards if montoya is not signed and d.p. will be the number 1 goalie as per wang and snow which i sadly believe will happen. will grabner be signed to a new contract or will he be shipped for the usual number 2 draft pick because wang is to cheap? this team has gone a long way the second half of this season. i am very proud of them and i just hope for once that wang and snow do things right and not in their usual disfunctional way just to save money. the kids have come along way and they deserve as well as us for once, for wang and snow to do things right over this summer so next year this team will contend and not pretend. they are so close and i hope i am wrong but i will not be overly optimistic unless i see wang and snow put a little money into this team and make sound decisions for next year. i dont think that is asking too much.

  54. avatar PotvinRocks says:

    Plus: the team without DP
Plus: Grabner on Twitter call out Chara’s dive by callin Frans the strongest man in the NHL

  55. avatar Islesfan1972 says:

The dive by Chara was patetic as was the officiating. Their record with Jurcina in the line up is insane. A higher draft pick is so not a priority at this point. Winning whatever they can for the rest of the season and finishing with the best record in the NHL since mid-December is what they should strive to accomplish.

  56. avatar Jzimm says:

Oh, and by the way, Howie, IT’S SPRING TRAINING!!

  57. avatar JTizzle91 says:

12-1 in the last 13 and the Isles squeak in! 100-1 yes! But not 1000-1.

  58. avatar THE PORK CHOP EXPRESS says:

I can’t believe I am saying it: NAH NAH NAH NAH!!!

+ Battled against a very strong team.
+ Exploded and dominated the 3rd. Imagine if we play that way for 60 mins? Wait we did that during Penguins game!!!!
    +Hillen,Bailey,Comeau, Martin playing consistently.
+ PA scored a goal and had zero shots. How often does that happen?
+ JT is a magician with the puck when around the crease
+ Montoya providing consistent and stable goal tending. Garth, sign him for next year. IF he keeps this up he is our number 1. DP is a back up and Poulin develops in BP.
+ WINNING CURES EVERYTHING!!!! KEEP IT UP!!! PLAY STRONG AGAINST THE DEVILS

  59. avatar Jzimm says:

Until the mathmatics say the Islanders CANNOT make it, I will not give up hope!

  60. avatar greg h says:

plus – montoya interview with stan, its just funny

plus – hillen thanking the fans for coming out and supporting the team. Saying it means alot to them as players. They can feel a turn around and will only player harder. Looking forward to see the barn filled up much more often next season.

  61. avatar StevieL says:

    Wow! just Wow!

  62. avatar Numbers65 in Ohio says:

EXCELLENT! Nice to see these guys putting it together. Imagine a year of play like this. Soon we will have 3 30 goal scorers and 2 20 goal scorers! Let’s see how far Al Montoya can take us! Not to shabby. DP cannot be #1 unless he earns it.
    LET’S GO ISLANDERS!

  63. avatar Rob76 says:

plus: the goal song has really caught on with me. I hope they keep it.
plus: seeing grabs and Moulson in a tweet war after game, these guys have grown so close and it shows on the ice.
plus: Hope, finally there is hope for the NEAR future

  64. avatar Steve C says:

Beautiful comeback in the 3rd period against one of the best defenses in the NHL.

  65. avatar Winter Park Mark says:

Plus: Isles scoring four goals on the Bruins.

Minus: “na na na na na” — sorry guys, that song has to go.

  66. avatar Cold Spring Harbor says:

We played as solid 20:02. Best part was that we didn’t fold after getting the lead and stayed strong defensively until the end. Shame Carolina lost, would have been nice to see the Rangers 9th. Next two games are big hope raisers if they go our way. I still prefer the traditional Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday home games.
What’s with the Chuck-a-Puck promo? The family behind me won but the kids are not allowed to claim the prize, they take out 20% withholding for “gambling winnings” and will send the poor father a 1099 for his tax return, they should better disclose the rules.

  67. avatar Eric says:

minus – lowest attendance in the league tonight (by at least 4,000 people)…and atlanta had a home game

cmon isles country seats are $20!

  68. avatar Steven says:

Isles following the blueprint. You build through the Draft and with smart pickups and not by signing medicore talent to big deals. You can feel how close the team is and it shows on the ice. You cannot buy chemistry. This is how teams like the Wings and Devils have done it.

  69. avatar Strummer's Army says:

#24 you are correct, Isles management does a terrible job in the public relations and perception department. Snow has overall been a good GM, he makes some curious choices at times (Parenteau getting so much ice and the small defense) but overall he’s on the positive side of the ledger.

+Plus Late game come back rather then late game collapse!
    +Boys putting up more goals.
-Geravis again terrible especially on first goal.
+Isles fans in attendance letting Colin Campbell and his goon squad at NHL Justice know we are on to you and sick of your bias and unfair abuse of authority.

I’d like to point something out. Colin Campbell works with a group of men. Murphy being one of them. They work closely together. Does anyone really expect Murphy and crew to truly be able to put their personal relationship with Campbell aside just because he’s not allowed to be directly involved because of his son? Lucic used his stick to deliver a serious blow to a players head(intentional) days after Gillies and not even a meeting was had, we all saw the Chara hit. We all saw how Boston instigated 4 fights in less then 35 seconds against Dallas and their brawl against Montreal (including Campbell’s son pounding away on a non-fighter) but the Isles are painted as the goon squad of the NHL. Do I even need to bring up Pit. No Bruin is going to get a suspension no matter what they do because of Campbell. MIke Murphy and his crew are not able to be unbiased because they have a tight relationship with Campbell. They don’t want to mess up Bos’s playoff positioning. Everyone saw Campbell’s emails and Murphy and crew knows if they were to penalize Boston Campbell would flip out and be a monster o work with. Gary Bettman should be ashamed of himself for allowing this to go on for years.

  70. avatar Walt says:

    SHAZAM!!!!!!

  71. avatar Islebethere4u says:

    Beautiful, just beautiful!

  72. avatar Vlad from Brooklyn says:

Plus – Bruins player actually thinking that if he would not commit to the hold Parentau will put this puck to the empty net without missing it :) .

  73. avatar Isles Fan in Toronto says:

Isles fan since 1980, seldom missed a game on Center Ice in 10 years, I feel something special with the Isles. It was so exited to watch them come back in the third. Go Isles Go!!!

  74. avatar vrinqueens says:

#66 I totally agree with you, so I says we get Gregory Campbell this summer at any cost. Maybe the league will back off with their draconian suspensions on them.

  75. avatar mht says:

Went to the game tonight, and I know I am nitpicking, but wouldn’t it be great if Islanders management brought in an anthem singer the caliber of Jim Cornelison.{Chicago Blackhawks] Sorry those elementary school children who performed this evening, and the group who performed prior to the Toronto game leave much to be desired.Love Montoya and Grabner.

  76. avatar "WeWantTen" says:

    PLUS: Stat of the Year

The Islanders lead the league (tied) in Goals Scored at Home 118 home goals

KEEP THE GOAL SONG! AND RESIGN ZENON!

  77. avatar The Frans Nielsen Experience says:

Here is a list of people John Tavares(56 Points) has more points than thus far this season:

    Mike Richards
    Daniel Briere
    Nicklas Backstrom
    Patrick Marleau
    Patrice Bergeron
    Phil Kessel
    Ilya Kovalchuk
    Matt Duchene

  78. avatar Honnold says:

What a likeable team we have now. Night and day from the miserable era of Yashin, Kvasha, etc. All Yashin’s excuses of not having good enough linemates. Do you see Tavares complaining? Just keeps his head down and spins gold. Even our enforcers are more likeable. It was hard to root for Chris Simon. Now, we’ve got Martin, Gillies, Haley, Z.

  79. avatar Ryan says:

Here come the Islanders!!!! We’re returning to glory

  80. avatar 93 Miracle says:

Yea seriously I was there tonight. I realize the uncertainity with this team and just how fans have been raped for 15 years, but if this team plays like this next season and lets say has 15 more points then they do right now(which i think is very doable and maybe thats shooting to low) this place should be packed, soldout on a friday night. Lets leave the past in the past, we have a REAL fun, exciting group of young kids, lets get out there and support this team because it is just the beggining…Lets go!

  81. avatar Matt says:

    Plus – Okposo
Minus – Stan Fischler (enough of that guy already).

  82. i’m amazed…

+++All the moves I’ve been seeing on the ice lately. Confidence or carefree? Either way those moves are for real!

    ++AL MONTOYA

    ++GRABNER!!!!

I am loving how this team is playing together – a lot more heart these days. Keep the Zenon’s, Haley/Gillies in the lineup.

    -Marchand’s hit on Bailey

I hope we destroy the Devils tomorrow, this is getting crazy!

  83. avatar David Sweden says:

This team is just a Mark Streit and Nino Niederreiter away from being a genuine playoff team.

  84. avatar isles14 says:

how much fun is it watching this team.

Minus- No fights against the Bruins?? Come on lift the ban already.

  86. avatar kb says:

#24 Tom D. Do you have eyes? Trust and PR? As far as Trust, Snow and Wang are EARNING trust. It has been a slow rebuild and Snow really has not said much…he has stood by his game plan and it is working. As far as PR…the team is great to watch and winning…isnt that the best PR?. Snow and Wang are not about ‘flash’ if you haven’t noticed by now.

I am tired of logging on to this site after a great win and seeing….comments like that or articles that inpire negativity. Follow the Rangers if you want PR and False Trust…better yet, become a Bruins fan, Colin Campbell will thank you.

  88. avatar Gary91922 says:

PLUS: ZENON KONOPKA!!!!!! This run and turn around has a lot to do with this guy.

CB, you should call for. “Zee” night to show Garth and Wang how much we support Konpoka and demand him to be re-signed!!!!!

Next home game make it a White Out for “Z”.

  89. avatar Bob Bassen says:

JT’s pass to Moulson was just terrific. Right at the end of the period…*2 goal leads are the toughest to defend…* The 3rd goal was the ping-pong type that the Isles were never getting early in the season. Niiiice.
Not sure why the booing of Chara. He didn’t asked to be traded. Oh, his hit in Montreal? Anyone watch the Kings/Bluejacket game last night? Same hit just at a slower speed. Not defending any of the ugly hits that occur every season in the NHL but Gillies’ shot to the head AND taunting in THE Pittsburgh game was reason enough that we Isles fan shouldn’t be riding our high horses with our noses up.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m very VERY satisfied with the *new* Isles playing with an edge and with some nasty but IMO, we NHL fans frustrations should be directed at Cambell’s office.
    All good…Go Isles!

    ++++ great comeback win

——-x1,000,000,0000 knowing DP will be back to screw things up. CB, you said there is a snowballs’ chance on Mercury that Wang will buyout his contract. If they did it for Yashin, why not DP? Is his “loyalty” worth messing up this teams chemistry? Sorry DP, we all wish it wasn’t like this, but I’d send him to B-Port to prove he can play 30 out of 35 games, then consider him. Have you noticed how little our goalies now turnover the puck? Just sayin’…go Isles!!!

  91. avatar joe says:

Hey #46 go scratch! NHL on the Fly announcers are dumb-founded by this teams play. Nice to see us getting some respect! Finish strong and keep building confidence, the kids are all-right! They sure look like they are having fun out there too!

  92. avatar Ct 1970s says:

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT. The only minus is hearing that we will have to put a hold again next season when DP is given games to play, and lose. He had his time, time for the new blood.

  93. avatar The New Isles GM says:

The more I watch this team improve and make a mathamatical push for the playoffs, the more I think we’re going to trade our 1st round pick for an established player. We’re running right out of the lottery position and maybe having one more impact player will change this conversation for next year. I’m proud of these guys. Grabbing Moulson and Grabner off FA has paid off more then enough. Grabner to me is our Taylor Hall, works for me ;o)

It’s true though, we’re watching these kids grow up. Tavares is becoming a beast on the puck. He doesn’t look like Yashin anymore. Moulson backed up his new contract with another great season. Montoya is playing how we hoped Nabokov would. Parenteau put’s up 50 points this year. The list goes on and on. We’re getting there. Depending on what Garth lands for this team over the summer, I’m not only convinced we’ll make to the playoffs, I think we can upset a lot of teams once we get there. Ala last years Montreal !

  94. avatar JoeCrabbs says:

Usually I can’t stand Fischler, but have to give him props. In pre-game he talked about Chara hit on Paccioretty. He is the only hockey guy that i have seen call it a cheapshot. It was! He knew exactly what he was doing. He also said That hit compared to Gillies hit on Cluster*uck was a joke.

  95. avatar Adam from Astoria says:

Chris: I love your work, but at this point– after THREE MONTHS of being the best team in the league– i think the idea that the quality of this Isles’ surge is in question due to a lack of pressure is outdated and OUT OF LINE!

  96. avatar Billy the Kid says:

The confidence to make plays on the ice like they do are not because they are not playing for anything. They are playing for pride and respect.
The reason they are making these plays is because Cappy allows them to try them without getting the sourpuss look of former dictator Gorton. That is why they are loose.

  97. avatar Brian G says:

I was at game last night, great effort by the players. But the main question will be: Can the players carry this level of play into next season, when the games are meaningful…and show a winning consistancy?

Please no talk of playoffs this year, they would have to win every game and all of the teams above them would have to have bad losing streaks, its not happening.

  98. avatar The Devils advocate says:

Said it before and I’ll say it again, when DP goes down the team rises, how can anyone deny this? It is so obvious that he sucks the life out of the rest of the guys. DP MUST GO! Montoya’s the real deal, sign him up long term!

  99. avatar Cyclones15 says:

    GREAT WIN!!!
MONTOYA 7-2-0-2!! .922 Sv Pct…We better keep him as our #1, Poulin #2!!!!!

  100. avatar jeff says:

Looks like only the return of DP can rescue a top 5 pick. Go Isles!

  101. avatar moonshine says:

two things about this ‘playing loose…’

i can see that sometimes it helps. but there’s plenty of other teams out there ‘playing loose’ just like the islanders, but not getting the same results. as for the devils, their style of play and ‘playing loose’ don’t exactly make a great fit.

furthermore, in a situation like last night, the bruins had a lot more at stake. they’ve been sliding into a mini-slump and, with the playoffs not too far ahead, must have been looking to right themselves. iow, it could be said they had greater focus and motivation than the islanders. so, in this particular case ‘playing loose’ even might be construed as a disadvantage.

  102. avatar EdTurner says:

MINUS – Snow still has not re-signed Jack Capuano.

  103. avatar Steven says:

In a million years I never thought back in November I’d be sad the season is ending…13-1 LET’S DO THIS!

  104. avatar Gorilla in the Mist says:

BIG MINUS/nightmare- DP is our #1 next season.

  105. avatar Erika says:

If I hear one more idiotic commentator on XM radio call the islanders spoilers I’m starting a war. These people are just trying to justify their team’s losing to the Isles. Seems to me they have much more at stake, so why are they taking the isles lightly? They are not! The Isles are simply out playing their opposition, period!Get over it and start taking your own team to task—leave my young awesome rebels alone!

  106. avatar Jerry G says:

Great game last night, great crowd (despite heavy Bruin fan presence), inspired performance, hockey has been so much fun to watch the last few months.

  107. avatar Don Cherry says:

Great game tonight. JT turning into a real pro. That backcheck to breakup the scoring chance was just as good as that pass to MM. Great hustle JT. Your playing like a true number one overall. The skys the limit.

  108. avatar Diane says:

With regard to the ‘playing loose’ philosophy, I think its possible they were able to start winning because they weren’t under as much pressure. But maybe that was what was necessary to get to that point just so they COULD learn to win. Theyve kept their heads down (lol not on the ice) and worked hard and it is really nice to see them actually developing skills and working well together, and getting their wins.
It is also nice for us fans who have been here thru thin and thinner to get the chance to be excited about our team FOR REAL again! Its so easy for us to leave a negative comment within our positive praise and its because of the past and is totally understandable. But at some point we have to let that negativity go and just ENJOY the metamorphasis of these guys – it is so much better, invites good karma, and still lets us accept a loss but with a little less sky is falling attitude. I think this letting go will also help us fans to take the next step too and I see that some already have. With all the crap going on in the offices, the team was the only thing we had and look how they’ve come thru. They’ve totally won me over. HUGE thumbs up to them and we are behind you all the way!

DP= Doesnot Perform,Montoya =Persirverence, composure, solidity, extremely likeable, has beeen patiently waiting years for this opportunity and is running with it.Viva El Cubano .

  110. avatar gary says:

Just imagine if they had won a few more games in that drought of 19 or so games lost in a row—

  111. avatar Islanders1932 says:

MINUS: Botta still does not have his credentials back yet with the Islanders

  112. avatar brian says:

CB – What do the isles tell season ticket holders that have seen their seats sold for $20?

  113. avatar Jmig15 says:

Isn’t it funny/sad how we never let ourselves get too excited because we know DP is lurking in the wings, and will ruin everything.

  114. avatar Michael says:

Sign Capt Jack and Big Al!
    Time for DP to GO!
    Big Al and Poulin!
DP in Bridgeport as insurance ! LOL he will break by Oct.

  115. avatar claude says:

WOW! This team has a major chip on it’s shoulder and is very dangerous
The Bruins were shell shocked from the pressure the boys were inflicting first five of the third. That type of thing just ouzes confidence.
Tired of all this talk about the Devils and next year.
HELLO ! Were right there. Everything is right now! You think opposing teams are pulling up to the Coliseum now, looking forward to there night off?
So lemme get this straight. You leave your feet and get 10.
But if you ram the opposing players head into the partition at full speed, fracturing his spine and probably ending his lively hood you get to be remorseful on TV.
Makes perfect,Chara doesn’t play or the Islanders.

  116. avatar Scott says:

Yeah, remember how great the Islanders were in the 2008-2009 season when DP was out the whole year and how great they did last year when he was hardly with the team at all? And who can forget how Rolosen was just racking up the wins before he was traded? (I know that was DP’s fault because he was giving the evil eye from the bench). Can people just be happy without bashing DP every day? Get over it already.

  117. avatar TimQ says:

Plus – The team is better when it plays with a little ‘edge’. Loved the fact that little Jack Hillen stood up to Horton after the interference penalty in the 3rd, and actually went after him.
