ISLANDERS 6 RANGERS 2
Blowout-at-the-NVMC Interactive Plus/Minus

by Chris Botta on March 31st, 2011 at 9:33 pm

Minus: Marian Gaborik deserved a five-minute major and game misconduct for his hit from behind on Frans Nielsen. Doesn’t matter what the intent was. Bad hit.

Plus: While Nielsen was sidelined for the game with a head injury, the Islanders got off the mat and stood up for their teammate’s honor by blitzing the Rangers with a four-goal second.

Plus: Radek Martinek blasted a goal by Henrik Lundqvist in the second period to give the Islanders a 2-1 lead. If it was Martinek’s last goal as an Islander, it was a good one.

Plus: Congratulations to Michael Grabner and his girlfriend on the birth of their son, Aidan.

Plus: Soon after @grabs40 tweeted that @grabsignificantother gave birth, the Islanders couldn’t stop scoring.

Plus: Travis Hamonic.

Plus: Sean Avery is the latest veteran to be unaware that Micheal Haley is one of the best middleweight fighters in pro hockey. Now he is.

Plus: Brandon Prust and Zenon Konopka (one bad knee, one bad ankle) engage in a long, spirited fight late.

Plus: After Haley and Konopka have their fights, Trevor Gillies scores a goal to make it 6-1.

Plus: Three assists and a fight for depth dman Dylan Reese.

Plus: Quality goaltending by Al Montoya.

Plus: The third period move by John Tavares that led to Matt Moulson’s 31st goal of the season.

Plus: The Rangers’ power play was bad, but a lot of credit goes to the Islanders’ PK. And that’s without Nielsen, Grabner and Andrew MacDonald.

Plus: Before suffering a shoulder injury, Ty Wishart played a strong game.

Plus: The Islanders can be proud of making their rivals sweat out the playoff race until possibly the last game of the season.

Plus: The Lottery Watch takes a night off. The Islanders needed this win. The Country deserved it.

Comments and your Plus/Minus on tonight’s victory. We’re taking a DiPietro break in the thread. Please respect it. Thanks.

  1. SUSPEND GABORIK!!

Michael Haley must be on the team next year full time…i’m buying his jersey or shirt…

AVERY ….nice eye, does it match any of your pocketbooks?

Atta boy Reese and JT had a strong game…

    OH AND TREVOR GILLIES SCORED!!
    You can callllll meeeee AL!!!

  2. avatar Keane says:

Just a thought: with Joensuu and Haley wearing 58 and 59 respectively, is there a website out there where I can look up whether or not those number combos have played on the same team before?

  3. avatar joe says:

Great payback tonite! Rangers will be out in 4 straight v. Flyers! Future is looking bright, excited with this team, especially with rhett and Donovan in the minors waiting in the wings!

  4. avatar Rich says:

anyone have any idea what happened with Gillies at the end?

  5. avatar jisles says:

I agree, Wishart looked much better! He was playing the body before the puck and using his size. Nice to see Okposo playing a more physical game and Tavares getting fired up. Go Isles!

  6. avatar Chummlee says:

Just wondering…what would a two game Gaborik suspension do the Rangers chances of keeping or getting out of the #8 seed?

  7. avatar JT says:

Let’s see if the NHL gives Gaborik a well deserved suspension while the NYR play for their playoff lives. I have no confidence that Campbell will do the right thing here.

Loved Haley sticking up for his young teammate and beating Avery in a one-sided fight. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

  8. avatar G says:

-Great to see passion and energy in their play
    -Good goaltending
    -Great to see Avery bloodied
    -Beat the traffic Ranger fans
    -Tavares played above the rest
    -JIGGS!
    -Blake C playing well
-Unbelievable how many PP for the Rangers – good to see them overcome
    -Good vibes….

  9. avatar JT says:

Any updates on Frans and Wishart? I agree with Butch, Frans looked like he was out cold for a second or two after the hit.

  10. avatar eric says:

loved jt questioning the ref after they though out gillies. “what did he do.” over and over again. go get em jt. go isles.

  11. @ #4
Gilles clearly got a 10 minute for scoring a goal and going for a 2nd one…

    CB – great PLUS/MINUS
I forgot..Hamonic was outstanding and yes, Wishart looked solid.

Reese needs to replace you know who…for good.

  12. avatar Blizzard says:

If the league was even close to being consistent Gaborik should recieve a 2 game suspension. We will not hold our breath.Great game for the fans!

    GO ISLANDERS!!!!!

  13. avatar TimQ says:

Plus: JT plays relaxed with creativity
    Plus: Lundquist gets yanked
Plus: ‘Hammer’ Hamonic setting the tone
Plus: Toturella whimpering on the bench
    Plus: Hillen holding his own
    Plus: A bloody Avery

  14. avatar KJC says:

Good game, the Isles don’t lay down, they’re playing hard, staying tough, and most of all respecting themselves. Oh yeah, Zen is my hero. I can see the “C” on his chest, even if it isn’t there.

  15. avatar AFIsle says:

that fight at the end was a retaliation to the refs.

great game!!!! and avery got what was coming to him

  16. avatar RuudfromtheNetherlands says:

#4: I think JT was asking the refs the same question.

Guys, im serious. With a winger like Martin St. Louis and a little bit more speed, Tavares can outscore almost anyone.

Maybe he and Michael Grabner should spend the summer together ;)

  17. avatar isles says:

gaborik should definately get suspended. should’ve gotten 5

  18. avatar Steve says:

Well the Rangers look about ready for the playoffs. Losers.

  19. avatar JT says:

Glad to hear Jiggs comment on how happy he was to be working the game tonight. Made me smile. It’s great to hear him doing games. The Isles should honor him in some way. How ’bout a banner for Jiggs, naming the press box after him, or inducting him into the Isles Hall of Fame (it’s about time to bring that back).

  20. avatar Lorne says:

Awesome that after Grabs son was born, the Isles kept scoring. I am practically in tears over that comment.

  21. avatar Michael says:

COLON, Time to suspend a blueSKIRT!!!

  22. avatar moonshine says:

tavares played a great game while montoya was no better than dp last night. so montoya gets #1 star and tavares gets nothing. go figure…
last night tavares took a bad offensive-zone hooking penalty, but i had no problem with the penalty he took tonight. and i got a kick out of him yelling at the refs after gillies got tossed.

the islanders are really a wild team. undisciplined, can’t keep their sticks on the ice, but when they start flying, they’re really hard to beat.

imo nielsen gets to sit out the remainder. good game by comeau, who gets criticized too much. some of the late fighting seemd kinda pointless. in a long season you need to be even-keeled. but that’s a coaching matter…

  23. avatar streit02 says:

Islanders have to beat the other team and the refs. Typical Isles win. The league continues to be a laughing stock.
Plus: Tavares was possessed tonight. It says a lot when your superstars rise to the occasion. Tavares is a big game player. Not to mention he was flying around the ice. His skating looked great. Martinek played a great all around game, that shouldnt be overlooked. Travis Hamonic is going to be a #1 shutdown dman. The kid understands how the game is supposed to be played. This is a real “team” who plays for one another. That game in Pittsburgh is looking bigger and bigger with every Isles win. Although he might get suspended for it, I was really happy to see Trevor score a goal!

  24. avatar Kbelanger33 says:

Chris-I’m sorry but there is a biased aganst the Isles.
-gaborik hit on Neislen-no 5 minute major-and there will be no suspension.
-No instigator on Dubinsky on Hillen-Dubinsky chased him around the ice for a fight. Instead Hillen gets 2 minutes for elbowing. What?!
-Haley tossed off ice by refs, back onto bench at end of the game when he didnt do anything. (you could even see Tavares mouthing”what did he do”.) Meanwhile Dubinsky stays on ice and attempts to fight Martin on same faceoff. Good for Dubinsky refs didnt let it happen.
-every game this kind of stuff goes on, to me there is a bias-can you talk about it.
-By the way I forgot did Frans get a 10 minute misconduct for that hit he recieved?

  25. avatar Frank James says:

If gaborik does’t get a game or two all these talking heads in ny and across Canada and us better say something.
    I won’t hold my breath.
Any coincidence that the isles skill players seem to have more room after the penguin game?
Avery looked really afraid when Haley stepped up for hamonic.
Way to do your job. Hamonic is to valuableto sit for 5 minutes.
They have to sign konopka just to keep this tightknit group together next year.
    What would he cost?
These guys really seem to be growing tremendously as a group.

  26. avatar Mike from Sarasota says:

    Now that felt good.

  27. avatar Vato Kakes says:

we’re the refs wearing a rags jersey..common that was a joke…but when we pound we win..great job haley I owe you a shot like the one[s] you delivered to avery’s mug..

  28. avatar Exilesurfskim56 says:

I’d sit Frans out rest of the yr. Lets have a look at Ullstrum

  29. avatar Al says:

Haley’s beatdown was icing on the cake.
DP starts on saturday and canes will be one point behind rags.
Hope Frans is ok. Should have been major penalty, but we are the isles who get no respect. That will start changing next year.

  30. avatar Kevin Tiernan says:

How about the chant Montey! Montey! when Montoya makes a big save? You can call me Al is pretty lame!

  31. avatar goowy says:

I have never seen Tavares skate that fast in my life….i hope Martinek is re-signed.

Second best game I seen all year!!!!!

  32. avatar Winning says:

In my opnion, winners wake up in the morning worrying about themselves, n winning. The yankees dont worry about ruining a teams playoff chances. If thats all the isles got going for themselves every spring for half a decade then this team has got to get a makeover. Avery deserved hos beat down.

  33. avatar Michael Nagin says:

How does Gaborik not get tossed from the game for his hit on Neilsen? That is an outrage! This piece of dirt should be suspended! As ususal, nothing will happen to him because he is Ranger, and if it went that far, guess who hands out the discipline? Could you imagine if that was Trevor Gillies delivering that hit? Great to see the team pound the Rangers, and worth it just to see Avery a bloody mess, and Tortorella hemorrhaging on the bench. I have my fingers crossed for Nielsen, and apparently Wishart was hurt as well.

  34. avatar Staten Islander says:

Gaborik should get 10 games, but COLON will call that a “hockey play” and nothing will happen.

    BIG CUBANO!!!

You can’t stop Trevor Gillies, you can only hope to contain him.

    Torts whining.

Whoever was giving Dubinsky the business while he was in the box, CLASSIC!

Jack Hillen with an old fashioned hip check.

See how nice life is without Chef Bruno

Putting a crimp in the Strangers playoff plans

  35. avatar Alex in PA says:

PLUS – Zuccarello, and whoever he was sitting next to on the bench, standing up and tapping their sticks after the announcement of Baby Grabs.

  36. avatar greg h says:

    Well your a downer.

Montoya was solid in net, he was held to 1 goal most of the game and made some great saves looking stable back there.

Its an Islander vs Ranger game not a Tampons vs Tampons Match, fighting is expected from go to finish.

    Great Game, Go Isles

  37. avatar moonshine says:

a second straight night of excellent pk. imo gaborik won’t get suspended. bertuzzi did worse last week, got a game misconduct but no suspension. i don’t need late fights in a one-sided game, but reese and hillen showed guts. the rangers have no backup goalie, lundqvist is pooped and hurt. the league would like the rangers (and the blackhawks) in the post-season.

  38. avatar Daniel says:

#14… St Louis is signed through 2014. Awesome game tonight, there is no better feeling then beating the Islanders. Pluses all around.

  39. avatar Jim Clark says:

Hopefully Montoya will be between the pipes when I make my final appearance at the Old Barn this Saturday. It was okay to play DP last
Night to save Montoya for tonight but give the spot on the bench for the next decade.

Totorella sounded classless on the post game intervew on the radio. Bad job. I know it’s tough unless these circumstances but it is your job.

Let’s see what Mr Campbell does about Gaborik. I’ll be surprised if there is any suspension “no history, not a major penalty by refs, blah, blah”

  40. avatar caber09 says:

Big Al’s big saves in the first & 2nd pumped up Isles, let DP start on Sat so Carolina gets 1 pt behind Rangers. Way to stand up for themselves. Screw Colin Campbell for not suspending Gaborik because he is a Ranger (no doubt there will be NO suspension)and they are fighting for playoff lives.

  41. avatar DenP says:

….Ok so if the league is not biased as CB & B Comp said on the latest installment, Gaborik gets some days off!! Gillies hit was nothing compared to that

Where is the plus for AL…As I tweeted earlier I dont care if DP has a 100 year deal. Right here! Right Now! Big Cubano is the better goalie!!! Best guy wins the job period!!

Us Isles fans who have to deal with Rags fans daily needed this. Big win, thanks boys. Lets Go Islanders!

  42. avatar Mike P says:

No suspension for gaborick if the NHL’s bias justice system stays the course. Laughable, typical and expectable.

  43. avatar MickeyBoy7 says:

Can someone please tell Butch Goring to give the phrase “he made no mistake” a rest? Drives me nuts.

  44. avatar robert says:

plus- best part of the game had to be when haley took care of that low life avery. he should of did that too to that other loser gaborik. while gaborik should be suspended for the rest of the season at least, im sure nothing will be done since former rag campbell will be sure to take care of a fellow rag loser. minus- cappy said in the post game conference that he cant understand why the isles are always injured. the biggest obstacle next year for the isles will be constant injuries unless wang and snow are will ing to change (spend money) in the proper training, equiptment and staff in prevention of constant injuries. its not a coincidence that the team with the lowest payroll in hockey by far has the highest number of injuries in the league by far year after year.

  45. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Wait a minute! Everyone is rightfully upset about the dirty, from behind, dangerous hit by Gaborik. Gaborik needs to be suspended. How the refs failed to toss him is proof the NHL tries to help some teams (so are the Rags PP’s early in the game).

The fact that Gaborik can throw a super dirty hit, McCabe can jump Konopka and all the penalties comes out even is clear the Refs either have orders or take it upon themselves to help certain teams.

Federtenko delivered a clear and deliberate eblow to the back of Reese head. Per the NHL that is a suspension. What Gaborik did was a suspension.

What Dubinsky did taking on a non-fighter and the crap at the end of the game deserves a butt kicking.

    Plus: Wishart & Hamonic.
Plus: Comeau (if he’d only be consistent).
Minus: Hillen not taking the body again and Martinek screening Montoya on first goal. If Rick was in net the haters would be screaming what a terrible goal he led in but again it was the D’s fault.
Minus: last goal by Rags was a weak one by Al.

    Plus: Tavares
    Plus: Beating the scum Rags.
Plus: Sean Avery finally answering the bell and getting bloodied and beaten!
Plus: Isles beating the Rags in every way possible.
Plus: The officials couldn’t steal this game for the Rangers.

Minus: Wishart out. I believe this injury enables the Isles to recall De Haan?

    Plus: Gillies scoring.

Plus: Isles win when they play tough, almost every time.

Chris, please address the issue why the Refs continually attempt to give the other team advantage in everything from PP’s to fighting.

  46. avatar reaper81 says:

depth ppl, thats what this rebuild is all about, i know size can be a detriment to a D-man etc.. but watch Katic more close ppl, kids got a future, skating goes a LONG way in some cases

  47. avatar Isle B A Fan says:

I wonder what Bruno is going to be doing in 6 Months

  48. avatar James from Swindles says:

In 1992-93, the NHL made a concerted effort to get high-sticking out of the game, and basically went ballistic handing out five minute majors and game misconducts. I seem to recall Alex Kovalev getting ten of them or something.

Point being, the NHL should be doing the same with hits to the head. Nielsen was knocked out cold on his skates. As Botta wrote, it doesn’t matter if there was intent: it should have been five and a game.

Or, as an alternative, just use the Trevor Gillies Litmus Test. In other words, “If Trevor Gillies hit someone like that, what would the penalty be?”

    **

Outside of that, great game for the Isles. Extremely resilient.

Though my favorite moment may have been Sean Avery being Sean Avery– picking a fight with a rookie. And then having Michea Haley come over and take care of business.

Good game all around. Probably a lot of soul-searching in the Rangers locker room right now.

  49. avatar Isle B A Fan says:

Actually I kinda feel bad messaging that, Bruno has been a Worker Bee, and a good teamate, but this team is going to be loaded with young D-Men next year

  50. avatar ole time islander hockey says:

Michael Haley bleeds blue and orange, reminds me of gary Howatt!!

  51. avatar Pilonfan says:

Haley knows who to fight and when..much smarter player then Gillies or Marting who don’t seem to have a hockey brain.

  52. avatar Petro32 says:

Gillies gets ten games for a clean hit but gets suspended for the perception that he was aiming for the head. Gaborik gets 4 minutes for putting a player out of the game and maybe for the few future games. It was a hit from behind, head into the dasher – seems suspendable to me but then again, it is the Rangers, it is the islanders (lower-case intentional) and the Rangers are in playoff contention. Oh, and its Marion Gaborik, so name has its cache so he wont serve a darned game. Yeah, we get screwed again. Just like Jack Hillen checks Prust, who can defend himself(just look at his PIM), and then has to fight Dubinsky (what are his PIM for fighting) for his legal check but receives an extra 2 min. for elbowing – what BS. I was looking for someone to even that up at the end of the game. Someone to pound Dubinsky and say Hey, it was a legal hit by someone who is a bit smaller but he hit a guy who can defend himself and didnt need you to step in – you are a shmuck and guess what, you are now bloodied.

  53. avatar rookie92 says:

    who’s nelson?

  54. avatar Jtorbust says:

Haley is my favorite Islander in a long time , he can skate and shoot too. There will be no suspension gaborik is a superstar ,gillies would have been arrested after the game like on of the Hanson brothers.

  55. avatar geduffer says:

+ Beating the Rags in the alley
+ Beating the Rags on the ice
    - A couple of people mentioning DP even when Chris asked us all to give it a rest.
    + AL MONTOYA
+ Memo to Sean Avery: Micheal Haley can fight. Ponder that while your stitches heal, a-hole!
+ PA getting #19 against the Rags.
    + Hank yanked
+ I’ll be at the Carolina game on a comp from the team :)

  56. avatar islesrock73 says:

How there was no major penalty on Gaborik is mind boggling!! He should be suspended two-three games. I would pretty much bet my bank account that there will be no suspension. Wow, what a game and what a licking we put on the Rags. Also, Fruit Torts needs to pipe down with his tizzy at Cappy near the end of the game. Should Cappy yell at Torts when the Rags had the nerve to score a meaningless goal?

  57. avatar Sidd Finch says:

streit02 – spot on, Isles had to beat the Rags and the Refs. Abyssmal job of officiating tonight. Replay angle over refs back clearly shows Neilsen getting knocked out. If you have ever seen e boxing match, you could see his head drop and his body go limp. It’s very clear that the Isles have to continue to use guys like Haley and Gillies because the officials are not doing their jobs. There needs to be some internal review over this because it is unacceptable. The Isles should have lined Gaborik up at some point tonight. If the league does not do it, then we must. And the elbowing penalty on Hillen. Give me a break, Dubinsky was looking for a fight. Just like the BS penalty at the end of the game, again when Dubinsky was on Martin’s back trying to start a fight. The most impressive thing tonight was that the worse things got for the Isles, the better they played. And Montoya played a great game tonight, no questions asked. I just wonder if DP has a dark cloud over him. I like the guy, but he just can’t seem to buy a break (no pun intended). And would someone shut Tortorella up. Would actually be nice to see Jack take him out back and show him the Englewood Jack (see youtube!!!).

Way to go Isles. Next year is already looking better!!!

  58. avatar Erika says:

Thank you islanders! It was a pleasure walking to my car after the game. My favorite is giving rag fans a napkin(to cry in)! Oh, and why the hell was Torts complaining because we put our usual power play unit on during a power play? What?!? He wanted us to ease up on his spoiled team like they eased up on us in the last game? The Isles played well without 3 of their hottest players, Grabs, Franz, and AMac. Very proud of this team tonight! Gotta go…have to text some of my favorite ranger fans for a little mud slinging!

  59. avatar Mike says:

    1. Montoya is a great pick up.
    2. Nasty hit, definitly should be reviewed.
    3. The youth movement is in full stride.
    4. Hamonic has huge b@*$! He plays tough and doesn’t back down.
    5. Tavares is looking stronger, tougher and more seasoned.
    6. Great way to end the season, by beating the Rangers.

  60. avatar Priest says:

I didn’t get a good look at the play, but I think Haley is going to have to defend himself on the line change right before his fight similar to Konopka in the Pissburgh game. I think he’ll have a tougher time than Konopka did as well. Again, I didn’t have the best look, but that was what it looked like to me. On the plus side, the game wad on at the bar tonight. I’ve honestly never seen an islanders game on at a bar in my area, unless they are playing the Leafs or maybe Montreal.

  61. avatar dan says:

Awsome game. Thought I could get cheap tickets at the last second, but couldn’t. Got sold out of the game. O well.

The 7 games I have missed this year have all been wins. Maybe I should never go to a game again.

Now to start DP so the cans can inch closer to the rags.

  62. avatar Gordy Lane says:

I agree with 27 about Frans resting the rest of the season. This rest of this year does not mean anything at this point so why risk it. If that was gillies, martin, cooke or even avery they would have gotten 5, a game and a suspension. I doubt he will be suspended but a really stupid play by Gaborik because when a team is struggling to score like the rangers have been lately a 2 game suspension could mean not making the playoffs. Love making the rangers sweat a bit more and if Lundquist is hurt watch out.

  63. avatar Marc says:

Gaborik’s hit should be reviewed by the NHL but the odds of that are probably as slim as the odds of picking the NCAA Final Four basketball teams prior to the tournament. A two-minute boarding minor for that hit is a travesty.

What about the Fedotenko hit on Reese, face-first into the boards? Maybe next year the NHL should increase to three referees and two blindsmen?

Great, gutsy effort by the Isles tonight, even if the win ends up costing them draft position. Have to root for Carolina against the Isles on Saturday to put them just one point behind the Rag$ with each team having four games remaining.

  64. avatar Petro32 says:

Note to NHL: according to your rulings, perceived intent is worse than actual. Just compare Gillies v. Clutterbuck (clean hit in reality but with perceived intent) with Gaborik v. Nielsen ((partial penalized hit) w/ questionalable intent but with tangiable results) 10 games v. ?. We all know how this ends, the name of Gaborik (and oh my god, how could he actually intend for something like this to happen) trumps the unknown Gillies name (is he related to Clark – no, then screw him) in terms of you committed the crime, then serve the time! Thanks again Colin Campbell – you serve the elite well! Thats why Cooke still plays and gets a paycheck for his multitude of transgressions but still gets to play while Gillies gets to sit for “intent”!

  65. avatar The Pork Chop Express says:

Agreed the only minus is losing Frans for perhaps the rest of the year. No need for him to play again. I hope he does not have a severe concussion. Gaborik should have received 5 mins. If he was an isle he would have been tossed from the game. The league needs to suspend him for at least two games.

Def. the team took it tothe next level after that hit. Finally, KO stepped it up a notch. If he can play with the tenacity he will be the player that we dreamed of.

Big props for hillen and reese for standing up for themselves. This team plays great when it shows team toughness. We are no longer push over.

Can’t stop loving how JT has been playing. He is turning out to be very special player.

    Also Good JOB AL!!!

  66. avatar Les says:

the bottom line is the big cubano is getting it done. if gaborik dosent get suspended for this dirty hit there is absolutly no standard in this game

  67. avatar Fred says:

That was the most fun I’ve had at NVMC in a long, long time.

+ The place was rocking, back and forth for the first 20 but us fans for the good guys got louder and by midway through the third all you saw was the back of rag jerseys walking down and leaving (of course during play).

+ Tavares is great away from the puck as well, it’s like he reads the play in motion and gets in the right spot to make something happen, awesome.
+ KO can be effective even when not scoring.
+ Our defense played tight to their checks and didn’t do anything too out of whack.
    + The PK
    + Al Montoya
    + Josh Bailey’s back checking
+ The intense fore check was sustained
    - The NHL officials (I know they have a hard job but at some point it’s just stupid).

  68. avatar Dmoney says:

ISLANDERS!!!!!! Was at the game and had a great time!!!!! Gabronik better be suspended, so happy the Isles took it to them. Happy and excited for next year. Lets go Islanders!!!! We’re all Islanders!

  69. avatar mike1211 says:

To me Kyle Okposo seemed to be the best player on the ice. He was all over the place and even took a shift on D

  70. avatar Hintonio says:

PLUS – Hillen!! Showed some cojones by getting in that fight with Dubinsky. When he came back to the bench after getting out of the box afterwards, he got a lot of high-5′s from the players. Also, that hip check was a crowd pleaser. Always stepping up in the offensive zone.
My question is, do you guys think he’ll be back next year??

  71. avatar Petro32 says:

And another thing, how did we end up on the PK when Gaborik nailed Neilsen? Konopka did a 2X on who to get the 2X minor for roughing? Freakin BS by the refs at that point. Who are they judging the game for? Whomever the front office tells them to favor? Another farce if you ask me.

  72. avatar Eric says:

I wish it wound up 6-1 for the biggest blow out in 24 years. But I will take it. I really had to take Newsday to task for their poor coverage. There are 3 Rangers articles and 0 Isles articles. God, I cannot WAIT til they miss the playoffs. I don’t wanna root against the Isles but if they happen to lose on Sat, I wouldn’t be broken up. If Gaborik isn’t suspended for the rest of the season, it will show that the league is biased against the Isles and it will never be more evident!

  73. avatar David Volek says:

I could not believe that the isles ended up on the kill after Gaboriks hit on Nielson. What explanation could they have given for not giving Gaborik a 5 min major and a game misconduct?????????

Also with less then a minute to go, coach Cappy had out the grit…..old school hockey. How on earth did the refs not allow Gillies and Prust to faceoff against one another? I dont recall every seeing the refs just throw two guys out of a game before the drop of the puck.

Dubinsky is gutless for going with Hillen. Kudos to Hillen for challenging him. Dubinsky had the chance later to go with Martin and skated backwards allowing the linesmen to step in.

HOW MANY PLAYERS IN THE LEAGUE wanted the chance Haley had tonight. Too funny that Avery tried the fake drop glove with Hamonic and Haley stepped right in. Sean is known for the sneaky dropping of the gloves when guys arent ready, but Haley is 5-0 so far this year. Icing on the cake to see Averys eye bloodied…………THE FUTURE IS LOOKING BRIGHT PEOPLE.

5 starting dmen not playing and we still outplayed one of the highest paid teams in the league.

  74. avatar Brett says:

I think #38 is a lil drunk. Isles beat the Rangers tonight bud :)

  75. avatar Strummer's Army says:

#64 WOW! Reading about “perception” is crazy. I agree judge the crime and punishment based on what happened and not who the player is, what you think he intended to do, or who he plays for. No one can know what someone’s intention was. I know Gillies did not intend to injure Clutterbuck just knock him on his butt and hope to fight him.

  76. avatar Bryan says:

You mention this could possibly be Martinek’s last goal as an Islander. All I can think is how big of a shame it is to let Radek Martinek walk in favor of losers like Mark Eaton and Mike Motteau. Wouldn’t it make more sense to sign Martinek and waive Motteau?

  77. avatar Staten Islander says:

The BIGGEST plus…Torterella refusing to comment on anything in the presser after the game, PRICELESS!

  78. avatar A Real hockey fan says:

..The team needed a big game like this and they came on like gangbusters after the big hit! lets see what colin ‘u should be fired ASAP’ campbell reacts

.. How nice and refreshing (long overdue)was it to see that Avery get that beatdown? Haley is already a fan favorite and might be a league favorite after that lol

.. The team responds and plays very hard under Capuano, they are flying all over the ice and will be a team to reckon with really soon

.. Speaking of Capuano, how ‘refreshing’ is he as the coach? The guy has his team playing old skool hockey, he doesnt pander to the P.C. soccermom crowd and has the tough guys playing all the time and the icing was Gillies scoring a goal.

..Great game even if the Isles have to play against the other team and the refs, the old barn has alot of life in it and is a great home advantage when the place is packed, it really is a great/special place, lets go Isles :-)

  79. avatar Faye from Brooklyn says:

Well, the NHL gave more evidence tonight that they have 2 sets of rulebooks: one for the favored teams and one for the less-favored. Oh yeah, has anyone heard from Mario Lemieux since the Cooke hit at MSG?

  80. avatar Brian from Massapequa says:

Plus – Jack “I’m a hockey fighter” Hillen!

Plus – Little Queenie getting pulled after two periods.

Plus – Michael Haley reminding Sean Avery that there are consequences

Minus – Captain Obvious here lamenting the hit on Frans. Two games is appropriate.

    Plus – Alvaro Montoya!

? – Still puzzled about Trevor being sent away at the end of the game. Hi Refs, sometimes enforcers are sent out to prevent a fight, not start one. Thoughts? Never mind.

Plus – Islanders fans seemed to dominate the building tonight even if the sweaters seemed to indicate more Rangers fans.

    Plus – Full Building

    Tapping out

  81. avatar Tom NYC says:

    I love this team!

+ JT…deserved a few more points for all the goals he set up..too bad they don’t give out third and fourth assists.
+ Haley doing what everyone else in the leaue wished they could
    + Gillies..good for you man
+ The 2011-2012 New York Islanders…things are definitely looking up

  82. avatar Jtonelli says:

question…Gaborik didnt get a major…so is even eligible to be suspended?

  83. avatar rob says:

resign Capuano…. JT breaking out his skating is night and day from last year.. Sick moves.

BTW whats our record when Jiggs calls our games this year.

  84. avatar The New Isles GM says:

What’s funny is noone in the twitter world talked about that Gaborik hit. If it was Matt Cooke, everyone would be up in arms. I know he’s a repeat offender but it seems as if their is an unspoken rule amongst the hockey analysts. I guess at the end of the day, it’s a business.

  85. avatar John says:

Great game. Fun to watch, I hope Z and Haley are both here next year. In the times article about the game they mention if the rangers miss the playoffs it’s the first time all 3 metro teams missed the post season since the devils came here in 82-83. REALLY? a ny hockey blogger missed a few details.

  86. avatar matt from Holtsville says:

Next Year Is Gonna Taste So Good

  87. avatar 51 FN & 21 KO says:

    Plus- Finally got our revenge
    Plus- Haley beating up Avery
Plus- Henrik pulled after 4 GA
Plus- Konopka showing his passion for this team playing through injuries to earn a contract
Minus- Our smartest and most consistent player just received a concussion with 5 games left in the season
Minus-Gaborik will not receive a suspension for his hit
*BIGGEST MINUS- CB saying that could be Martinek’s last goal as an islander maybe hinting he won’t be on the team next season. I will be very upset if Martinek is not resigned. We drafted him. He has played very consistently these past few years and is an very good veteran defenseman who can teach the new upcomers. He is very smart (like Frans Nielsen) and he NEEDS TO COME BACK NEXT SEASON!!!

  88. avatar rob says:

“I didn’t see the hit, but I just saw [Nielsen] down, not moving, and I got scared,” Martinek said. “That’s why I went over. He’s such a nice guy. I’d do anything for him.”

this is how you know we have a team with character… next year cannot come soon enough.

  89. avatar vrinqueens says:

Colon Campbell just got off the phone with Snow, Trevor Gillies just got another 10 game suspension for the Gaborik hit on Nielson.
Come on folks, you don’t think for a minute anything will happen to Gaborik with one of their elite franchises in a fight for its playoff lives do you?

  90. avatar Jerky says:

It’s refreshing to know that when Haley and Konopka are in the penalty box, we still have Gillies and Martin (and even Hamonic) on the bench who can protect and brawl with almost anyone. I hope this toughness remains next season.

If the league decides Gaborik does not deserve a suspension for his board on Nielsen simply because Gaborik does not have a prior history, then how does a player like that ever get a history? I don’t expect a significant suspension, but 1-2 games is warranted so if it happens again there is history.

Glad the Isles played physical tonight along with the win. A win without the physical stuff wouldn’t have been the same!

  91. avatar TM says:

NHL has the credibility of pro wrestling with gaborik not getting 5 and tossed and the obvious ref bias tonight. Are they penalizing head shots or not? If they mean what they say then suspend gaborik for 2 games. If not then shut up NHL because you look ridiculous.

Great effort by an undermanned injured squad!!

Where can I buy a Michael Haley shirt?

  92. avatar BIGSAVE77 says:

I watched the highlights of the game on nhl.com and noticed there was not footage of the Haley-Avery fight or the hit on Neilson. I was wondering who puts these highlights together. Love the way Montoya is playing but when is he going to get a new mask to match his new team? Nice win late against the rags good job guys.

  93. avatar brian says:

It was clear that the Rangers had all the pressure and the Isles can just have fun with no pressure.

  94. avatar David from Sweden says:

Tonights victory explains why we didn’t show up against the Devils.

Great way to finish the season. Top it with winning the draft lottery.

  95. avatar chris says:

I don’t know if people realize this, but JT would have had 4 points tonight if A. Joenssu doesn’t deflect the Martinek Blast for the 3rd goal and B. Moulson doesn’t touch the Reese blast before it gets to Parenteau. JT made two really strong plays along the left-half boards to create those plays. it’s a shame he got no credit for them. Would have kept him ahead of Matt Dooshy Doosh point-wise. JT had a great game.

  96. avatar Cyclones15 says:

Plus- Leaving Torts speechless in the presser
Plus – Haley taking care of Avery

The league will not address the Gaborik hit because Campbell is a Rag!!

    Go Isles!!!

  97. avatar G says:

    suspend Gaborik!

  98. avatar moonshine says:

imo anyone who roots for carolina saturday night because of the playoff race should just watch rangers’ games to root against them and forget about the islanders.
to me ‘let’s pummel the rangers for one night’ isn’t any special satisfaction. i hate losing to the rangers more than to other teams, but a single win against them can’t mean that much. it’s about winning every night no matter who you play. this year the rangers won the season’s series anyway.

  99. avatar Isles in VA says:

Images from last night that will make me smile all summer——–

    1. Avery – bloodied and irrelevant
    2. Tortarella – screaming that we are running up the score

Way to go Isles! With our #6 goalie and D-men #s 9, 10 and 11

As Jiggs said, i hope this summer goes by fast. I cant wait til next year!

  100. avatar Numbers65 in Ohio says:

You got a contract, now get and Islander goalie mask!!! Get rid of that AHL thing, we are proud of you and you are in the Bigs now with us. Get the helmet with your next check. Yes, great win!

  101. avatar Bob Bassen says:

+ Is it me or is JT skating leaps and bounds better and faster?
-Ugly hit and w/o our MVP for the rest of game. Get well soon, Franzie!
+ Decimated line-up but playing with incredible heart and determination.
+ Not a Torts basher but somewhat amusing watching him stress away years off his life.
-/+ Captain ?!? Weight appearing, unannounced, seemingly for the first time this season, in a suit, behind the bench. : | ?
    - Martin giving Dubinsky a *fair* fight (HILLEN?!?) at the end of the game would have been incredibly delicious.
    + Haley. Period.
++JT passionately screaming at the refs after they tossed Gillies/Prust. Pride, passion…he’s an Islander…real nice!
    ++Hamonic and Hillen were awesome.
+ The fact that I could keep writing about the game and smiling.

  102. avatar shlo says:

Why is Tortorella bitching about “running up the score”? didn’t the Rags ran up the score against Boston (I think it was Boston) 7 : 0 or so?
Keep Haley , Konopka and Gillies or we’ll be a lottery team for a long time.
No way the league will suspend Gaborik for a head hit. This rule does not apply to so called super stars.

  103. avatar bryan says:

great game!! one complaint they should have tried to score another one on that late pp. heres my reasoning, last game we were down either 6-2 or 7-2 and i clearly remember the rags going on a pp late and torts had his top pp players on. then tonight he gives cap a look like come on and cap does the normally respectful thing by taking out the jt line and putting gillies and others who dont get pp time on. but in this case it was the wrong move, they didnt care in msg that the game was over so i say next time don’t make that move, there is no love in this rivalry only blood and wins. and whats with coach torts like he’s scolding our young coach and expects us to take it easy on his team late b/c there in a playoff race!!!! hell no this is a rivalry and we would get no such respect from them. i almost want to root against the isles saturday so carolina can creep up but i just cant do it!! absolutely love this kid haley. that eye is for last game avery you punk

  104. avatar Tom D in NJ says:

Plus: There are many, but I’ll cite the Isles grit and determination and the respectable play of Montoya.

Minus: NHL Officiating at its inconsistent and disheartening best.

  105. avatar NY711OT says:

    Glorious!
Someone should have jumped the Ranger bench when Tortorella was calling Cappy a bush league coach….Maybe hes angling for a new job next season?

  106. avatar gary91922 says:

READ THIS POST AND PASS THE MESSAGE!!!

NHL.. SUSPEND GABORIK OR THE ISLES SHOULD FORFEIT THE GAME VS CAROLINA…

Garth… please stand up for your team and demand a suspension for Gaborik.

Say what you want about Gillies but he received 9.. thats 9.. I said 9..dod your hear me NINE, games for a so so hit from his side.

Gaborik had time to pull up but instead RAMMED Nielson’s head into the boards..

If I was the Isles I would keep my mouth shut to the press but yell and scream at the league to do the right thing.

If they dont.. then I FORFEIT THE GAME VS CALROLINA!!!!

READ THIS POST AND PASS THE MESSAGE!!!

NHL.. SUSPEND GABORIK OR THE ISLES SHOULD FORFEIT THE GAME VS CAROLINA…

The Isles stood up for themselbves vs Pitt on Freaky Friday… stand up for themselves again against the unfairness of the league!!!!!

  107. avatar gdmike says:

I would love to see islander fans give parenteau some credit. Beautiful pass to martinek and a goal. Can’t ignore a 50+ point season in his first full season. Great job IMO. Please give credit to the guy that is relied on to carry the puck in the zone for that line. Anyone who plays hockey would realize he plays an important role for Tavares and Moulson.

  108. avatar Bob E says:

what a game. In what i few as our last non-playoff year, i say THANK YOU ISLES.

CB – love the fact that everyone isles is ALL PLUSES and deservingly so.

Highlight of night – Avery being bloodied Haley, I guess Avery has to go back challenging Jason blake and the Brieres of the league.

  109. avatar bossy2219 says:

Avery is looking thru his closet for his puffy red man purse to match his eye. Nice pay back for always running our goalies and saying “what I didn’t do anything”, Well neither did HALEY ( YOU THE MAN).
PS Memo to Avery; cowards always get theirs.

  110. avatar cahoward28 says:

On a seperate note, does anyone know where the tiebreakers stand between NYI/OTT/FLA? I know the tiebreakers for the playoffs is non-OT wins, i’m assuming its the same for the draft. Any clue where to find out who has how many?

  112. avatar terry b says:

that is what the team and fan base needed at the end of this season, tavares is the real deal, avery should be nicknamed huggy bear, good to see that faggot get it,haley is the man,as someone else pointed out knows when and who to fight, dubinkinski needed to get it for fighting hillen, note to martin, that was like a high school fight at the end of the game,no need for talking just drop them and get to swinging,,

  113. avatar jim says:

reminded me of the glory years!

  114. avatar pete debenedetto says:

I think Martinek deserves the opportunity to sign a one year deal if he wants to return.

  115. avatar Battfist says:

Agree- Suspension for Gaborik is warranted but I doubt it happens.

Love seeing Blake Comeau playing with an edge to his game.

    JT what a talent.

I know we have like 13 D signed next season…but I would sign Martinek up for one more year.

    Micahel Haley-Thank you!

    Proud Islander fan.

  116. avatar orngfan says:

TORTORELLA IS A HYPOCRITE!!! I was at the 7-2 loss in MSG this year and late in the 3rd period the ranger$ had their 1st power play unit out there with the Rag$ sporting a big lead!! I didnt’ forget, and apparently capuano didn’t forget either!!!!!

  117. avatar Lorne says:

We need to lose tomorrow, Carolina can close in on the Rangers being back only 1 point. We got our biggest win last night, and I am still stunned by what happened.

  118. avatar Enzo says:

I like to listen to the Rangers announcers at times during these rivalry games. Micheletti has officially jumped the shark. The guy was ripping into Capuano at the end of the game accusing him of trying to stir things up. He forgot about that cheap hit on Frans or Dubinsky trying to start stuff all over the ice.

    The guy now disgusts me.

  119. avatar Ray says:

Minus: The clown who uploaded that video spelled Nielsen’s name wrong.

  120. avatar quez says:

Hit it right on the head #106. Tortorella is such an ego-maniac, he’s never been wrong in his life. Great to see him all frazzled. Great game, lots of team toughness. I was so amped when Haley pounded Avery. Don’t look now, but Tavares is starting to morph into a superstar. His play in all three zones has elevated, and now he’s added a bit of sandpaper to his game. The game is starting to slow down for him, the way it does for the great ones.

  121. avatar Numbers65 in Ohio says:

I am always happy at an Isles win, but at this point I won’t mind losing to Carolina or any other games. Play DP the rest of the way for better draft position and give Rick the opportunity to prove us wrong. If Montoya gets a new mask and him and DP are in similiar form as they are now in camp, I would pick Montoya as #1 till Rick can earn it back. PERIOD.

  122. avatar BanGarth says:

Torts is a nobody, that was the first time in a long time in thsi rivarly that we were the intimidator. Avery has had that coming for a long time , I love this kid Haley. We have taken on the us vs the world mentality and i love where this team is going. We need to get a big bruising winger who can play with JT and create and some room and name someone captain before the start of next season. Weight looked like he belonged back there , can t picture him lacing them up again.

  123. avatar NCIslesFan23 says:

Plus: Michael Haley caving in Sean Avery’s face in two punches

  124. avatar jeff says:

love the look of disbelief and frustration from the arrogant tortorella on the bench. Classic..its almost like he feels a sense of entitlement to get all the breaks and all the calls in every game. I hope the rags choke again…cant believe im indifferent, but hey, a DP start may guarantee a lottery pick and a rags 9th place repeat….love hockey, cant wait till october

  125. avatar Ct 1970s says:

Jackie Gleasdon said it best “How sweet it is”!

  126. avatar black ice says:

Not a chance in hell Gaborik is suspended. Not a chance.
Haley’s a keeper, for sure. His size, I’d take him against Asham, hitherto the league’s best middleweight.
A scout said before Tavares was drafted that, below the has marks, he was already as good as anyone in the NHL. I thought it wa ridiculous comment at the time — and it was. And he was no great shakes, Tavares, his first year. But now I see what that guy was talking about.
Isles should resign Martinek, maybe he’s got his injuries out of the way, like Kenny Jonsson did his concussions.
Montoya was the star of the game, solid throughout; Comeau was good, Bailey effective. Great PK.

  127. avatar dedshark says:

Im going to the game against the canes. I really hope wont mind an isles loss. Do i want them to win? of course. but to keep the rags outa the POs…i;ll accept a 6-5 loss…as long as the isles perform :P

  128. avatar Tim F. says:

Michael Haley is Garry Howatt reincarnated. Take the number 8 away from Bruno, and give it to Haley.

  129. avatar Julie in FL says:

According to Newsday, the league WILL review Gaborik’s hit.

Probably just going through the motions, but at least they’re pretending to be objective.

  130. avatar Wally Grodner says:

The big question is will Gabby’s hit be reviewed?
If it isn’t then you can really say there’s a bias against the Isles.

  131. avatar Erika says:

How Colin Campbell keeps his job is beyond me….Are we banning head shots or not? Oh, I see..it depends on the crest on the players chest. Now N.H.L., you know why the Isles need a few enforcers, so they can protect themselves since the league is not doing it. I feel like the Isles are the smart kids in school who get bullied by the principal’s son, and the smart kid is suspended for complaining. Anyway, if the Isles did not have Gillies, Konopka, and Haley, they would have season tickets to the emergency room at the hospital! Good for us we are finally protecting ourselves. No coincidence that we became a team once we started sticking up for one another. great win over a desperate team. Suspend Gaborik for 2 games. GO ISLES!!!!!!!

  132. avatar A Real hockey fan says:

.. The big thing i have noticed is the ‘ABOUT FACE’ the franchise and team have done under Capuano, they play hard and respond for the coach and thats great

.. The other thing is how the team take ‘no guff or nonsense’ from anyone in the league with him coaching! They fly all over the ice and when push comes 2 shove the NY Isles do not turn the other cheek, they dont take anything from anyone and its refreshing and the team responds! the NY Isles are a like a lil buzzsaw that is not fun to play!

.. The young guys are really developing, with a young coach that they like, and with some skill and physicality is a GREAT thing 2 see and hope it continues, lets go Isles :-)

  133. avatar Isles81 says:

It really is the Isles versus the opponent and the Ref’s + NHL front office in every game. This tells me that we are now starting to be seen as a threat and threats must be silenced. The plus here is that this group of guys seems to be rallying around this and using it as motivation.

It was great listening to Jiggs call the game. His comment about how much he enjoyed calling the game was a great moment.

They stepped up tonguht. Haley is on his way to becoming an all time fan favorite Islander.

  134. avatar LouD says:

People lets be objective here once in a while. I know it’s the hated rags and Campbell has screwed the isles on more than one occasion but look at the Gaborik hit again. The league is going to say there was no intent to injure. At the most he will get 2 games from a hit from behind. But the people saying he targeted his head and rammed his head into the boards are watching with blinders on. He hit him from behind as Neilsen was bent forward. The hit propelled him into the boards head first but at no time does any part of Gaboriks body touch Neilsens head. Gaborik was actually looking down at the puck in between their feet when he makes the hit. It was from behind but there was no intent hit him in the head. Therefore it will be 2 at the most, but it’s Campbells Rangers so I say he plays in their next game.

  135. avatar Suspend Gaborik says:

    - what exactly has Tortorella done with the Rangers to act that way to the media? He said, “you’re not getting anything from me.” He’s so rude to the media it’s crazy. I’m sorry, how many cups has he won with the Rangers?????
Imagine if Girardi did that or Rex Ryan….they’d be hammered!

  136. avatar xchfs says:

Love how everybody stands up for each other. This team reminds me alot of the team from the early 90′s. Bomber, Vacoda, Pilon, tough and fighting for respect. The Isles under Arbor were tough and they are now under Captain Jack. Don’t care if we win another game this season as long as we go out with respect. I would love to see a repeat of ferocious friday on the last day of the season against the Flyers. Bring up Galant and Yablonski from the bridge. Next year should be a lot of fun.

  137. avatar Dirty Gaborik says:

imagine if this hit came last week right after the GM meetings? Gaborik would be suspended for 10 games.
I guess the media doesn’t care this week. Where’s the outrage from TSN? NHL Network? SI? FOX? nothing.

  138. avatar Angry Bill says:

Awesome performance from the entire team. Second best game of the season for the Isles after the Pittsburg drubbing.

  139. avatar Staten Islander says:

Just saw a tweet that Gaborik wont face any action, and not one word on XM today about that hit. If that was Gillies, Martin or Matt Cooke who did that they’d have wall to wall coverage. Terrible

  140. avatar Ben says:

More importantly than the punishment for Gaborik, any word on Nielsen’s health?

  141. avatar ed says:

I just really wonder where they would have been had Capuano replaced Gordon earlier. Old school hockey from Caps and fun to watch. Have to give Snow credit for the roster he has put together on a shoestring budget. PA,Grabner,Zenon,Jurcina,Montoya etc. I love to slam Snow for his goofy moves, but the guy has the Islanders ready to make a move. Imagine what would happen if they had any money. Hopefully DP retires at the end of the year. Huge albatross that is hanging over the franchise and they will not be able to move forward without this being resolved.

  142. avatar Kevin says:

Radek MARTINEK should be ABSOLUTELY RESIGNED. He is way better than Eaten, Motteau, Hillen, Gervais and I know many would disagree…better than Jurvina (who is injured all the time by the way). Give Martinek a 2 year deal. He has been a rock back there this year. #24!!!!

  143. avatar StevieL says:

So Gaborik gets a 2 minute penalty for delivering an illegal hit that causes a head injury and Gillies gets thrown out at the end of the game for talking before a faceoff! Hmmmm sounds about right!
NHL and campbell are a complete joke if Gaborik walks free!
Cooke or Gillies would have been gone for a month at least!

  144. avatar UIF says:

Plus: Jiggs sounding like calling this game was the greatest day of his life.

Plus: Montoya’s comment about last night being how the coliseum should always sound.

…well, who am I kidding, the whole night was one big plus other than the injuries. Hope it’s nothing too serious with Nielsen, Hillen and Wishart…and anyone else that got hurt that I’m forgetting.

  145. avatar LetsGoIsles21 says:

    Rich #4
Gillies was removed along with Prust by the refs because they wanted to keep the game under control (Insert joke here). We all know they were going to drop the gloves and pummel each other. What was funnier was Haley went out to replace Gillies and the refs instructed Haley to return to the bench. Again that was to try and prevent the game from getting out of control.

What a great game by the boys..Gabs should be suspended 1 game without question. (Then I realized he’s a Ranger what was I thinking, he’ll be named league MVP for that hit)

  146. avatar Brian says:

I’m a rangers fan and I was at the game. I have to say I was very impressed by the Islanders and their faithful fans.

Some things I learned about the Isles that makes me want to continue to keep an eye on them:
-Jack Hillen was very solid and had some great physical plays
-There’s some intriguing depth along the blue line, I know guys like Mottau, Eaton, Jurcina, Streit, MacDonald, etc. are all out with injuries but the replacement guys like Reese, Wishart, and Hamonic showed some impressive grit
-The level of controlled physicality the islanders played with after the first period penalties was awesome, there are some solid two-way checking forwards to watch for
-As a Rangers fan I always hated that there was no place in the lineup for talented young guys like Montoya and Parenteau to earn their spots. I’m happy to see them succeeding and getting the chances they deserved.

Good luck to your team in the future and I hope that the young talent you guys have puts Islanders hockey back where it belongs, your fans deserve a winning team with depth and talent and it certainly seems to be on the horizon!

  147. avatar Mike says:

A few people on here have said it – but damn, Tavares was fast last night. His acceleration was crazy. Ive never seen that speed from him. Hes gonna be nasty next season.

  148. avatar Bill A says:

What a surprise, that Campbell and the NHL are doing nothing regarding Gaborik. They found nothing wrong with the hit on Nielsen.

    What a joke!

how is that gaborik hit any different then the hit Sutton put on Dapuis last year, he was suspended for mulitple games.

  151. avatar eric m says:

Gaborik not to face review for his hit. good still photo available, if you have $5 for the pay wall. gaborik has his elbow between the numbers on the back, and one leg between the back of the legs of Frans.
and the wheels on the bus(i meant justice) turn round and round, round and round. cant take the $8 million player away from the major media market rangers as they are squirting away YET ANOTHER playoff spot.
feel better Frans, and next time somebody should just pummel Gaborik. Eye for an Eye, until the league does something to protect Isles players.

that last rangers goal, wtf was that, i understand the game was already won, but i don’t think anyone, players, refs annoucers, fans, and especail al noticed the shot
it was like was that a shot and goal, hmm o well face off time
    it just was wierd

  153. avatar Jim says:

According to Katie Strang NO PUNISHMENT FOR GABORIK’S HIT!!!!!!!!!!

No surprise there. If Colin campbell were any more transparent he’d be a pane of glass.

  154. avatar Jmo16 says:

Brian #146 – Thanks for all the kind words….In the future I will now have to add the disclaimer (“except for Brian #146″) every time I write the phrase “All you Clueless Ranger Fans…”

  155. avatar MoreDraftPicks says:

If Gillies woulda done the same thing -20 games…Campbell is a joke!! BTW – Loved what Avery looked like skating off to the dressing room…How great was that?

  156. avatar Cyclones15 says:

Since Gaborik is not being punished I wonder if Snow will come out and make any comments about this as did Mario did against us!!!
    PATHETIC!!!

  157. avatar brian says:

The hit does not deserve a suspension. A 5 minute penalty, perhaps. Stop crying, its embarrassing.
