With no playoffs again this year for NYI, and only the long long offseason to look forward to.

The Isles need to reward their Fans with a BIG Win over the Rags Tonight.

    One Last Feel Good Game……

Be Nice To Say We Contributed to Their Late Season Collapse to 9th Seed (again).

  2. avatar Bob Bassen says:

    Yep.
MUST win tonight. Last game of significance for the Islanders this season is tonight. Pittsburgh game, for me, will be a non-event.
Appreciate hearing the comments relating to REAL playing pressures.
Something that I believe the Islanders rarely have to deal with.

  3. avatar AJAX says:

Actually, looks like the Carolina game is going to be significant as well. Lets hope DP plays that game.

  4. avatar 93 Miracle says:

Agreed #1 we really need this one tonght to feel good even if we lose some games to end the season with DP in net. I like Panger and he praises the islanders, but then says they will challenge between the 10 and 8 spot. They would be top 10 Right now if it wasn’t for the 1-17-3 stretch. He basically saying they can only challenge for the last playoff spot and I think thats a load of crap. I think this team, this time next year can be basically wrapping up a a playoff spot. I know things are tight in both conferences where only a few teams have clinched a plaoff spot with 5-6 games to go, but I think we can have 90 pts with 5-6 games to go in the season next year although I would probably settle for any spot, I think we can finish 6th next year. I think we can be like last year’s phoenix coyotes and surprise everyone. That team got a 104 points. I dont think we will get that many but basically saying I think we can turn some heads and not get in the last game of the season.

  5. avatar Alan says:

BTW, what contract did Montoya get? DP situation has to be resolved

  6. avatar Larry Satler says:

Beat the Rags…..based on the last 3 games it would be nice if they just showed up. Starting DP and the teams lack of energy and effort has me thinking that they really have not improved much. The Isles and Devils were winning through the dog days of the schedule and now that teams have turned the effort up they are starting to look bad. If this continues next year I can hear the announcer saying with the 1st pick of the 2012 draft the Isles choose…..

  7. avatar mario vecchione says:

Hopefully Red light Ricky will be taking BP with the Mets and miss tonight’s game against the Rags. Have to win this one.

  8. avatar isles71 says:

Panger talked of Montoyas’ confidence and not having to worry about playing the next game. Then, I do not understand the psychology with what the Isles are doing with DP. Coach said that he didn’t care what DPs’ gaa, s%, w or l were, just that he played. Anyone ask the other 23 Isles what they thouhgt of it? If DP was playing every game the last 2 weeks in B-Port, the Isles could play it off as reconditioning and he could work on his game out of sight. Now you have him sit and when he does play and is awful, they’re serving him up on a platter for NHL on the Fly, the blogs, TSN.ca, etc…how is that good for him. Montoya needs the work too. Remember, that in the last few seasons, our back up has been just as big a reason the Isles haven’t made strides to being playoff bound. I don’t see how what we are doing helps DP or improves Montoya.

  9. avatar Wally Grodner says:

@Mario, DP isn’t good enough for the Isles but he can get a starting job with the Mets.

  10. avatar sean says:

For all those DP lovers out there the guy is overrated garbage that should not have been a number one pick. We will not win anything with him in net. Hip replacements and knee injuries come on already. I rather him have an islanders office job than to to play in net.

  11. avatar Staten Islander says:

In all honesty, come September, DP should not just be handed the starting job, let him go out and earn it, if he beats out Big Cubano, then so be it. That said, they should go out and get someone they can sign to a 2-way deal for when DP gets hurt next year (and we all know he will).

  12. avatar Chris R says:

Maybe the Isles can win the draft lottery. Let Nathan Lawson finish the season so the isles will not get any points. Also, I hope Lawson and Chef Bruno do not return next season.

  13. avatar Hock says:

Would love a “big” win tonight, wouldn’t we all? But I fear our young defense will have an uphill battle. My hope is that the forwards have their legs and can sustain the pressure (and help the D) for 60 minutes (or more). Hopefully Montoya is “on” because we will need him. I expect the Rangers will play a playoff style, stingy D-first type of game rather than wide open, so there will be a lot of battles for the puck that will determine the outcome of the game. Let’s hope we show up battle ready. I think a hard fought win would mean a lot to the players as well as the fans. Lastly, we are due after losing to them 4 straight, including some ugly ones.

  14. avatar Erika says:

if the Isles win this game, i would really be satisfied. For one, it would show fans that they have made good strides this year, and the other reason is it would put the rags in a very fragile position, and would shut their fans up in our building. I am tired of being humiliated by the other teams fans…please Isles, give me some ammunition going into the summer. Put your helmets on backwards, and just WIN!!!

  15. avatar 50 in 50 says:

Hopefully the team as a collective can take on the Rags tonight and spoil the playoff hopes. Maybe next year with Cappy behind the bench and a very similar line up in place we will have a shot at making some noise around playoff time. At least we might be able to get a UFA and a half decent pick in the draft with the way things are going.

On a sub note I think the Isles also need to dress Trevor Gillies for the remainder of the season. Protect the youngins and send a message to Colon that they stand behind Trev. Let him walk after the seasons over but stand united for the sake of chemistry

  16. avatar Don Maloney says:

    No Grabs again tonight?

  17. avatar Dmoney says:

GRABSSSSSSS PLEASE PLAY!!!!! LETS GO ISLANDERS!!!!!! Gotta win this game and help knock the rags out of a playoff spot!!!!

  18. avatar mht says:

Going to the game tonight, really pumped up ! I just pray that another bunch of elementary school children do not sing the National Anthem prior to the start of the game !!

  19. avatar kevo says:

    Islanders win 4-2

  20. avatar Phil Dunphy says:

if we win we get to screw the rangers and thats nice, but if we lose then were in better position 4 the lottery with ottowa playing florida tonight….PS. Anyone ordering wrestlemania sunday im curious to see what the rock will do to cena

  21. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Well apparently Grabs kid takes after his Mother’s side of the family because he doesn’t have his Daddy’s speed!

When you read about all the injuries Konopka has been playing through and the fact that he could choose to sit tonight but instead is going to play to be there for his team, a team that is going no where and he still take a pain shot to the knee before every game, has other injuries, and now an ankle injury and he still wants to dress and fight for a team that is not battling for anything HOW CAN YOU NOT RESIGN THIS GUY?

Thanks Panger! One of the great stories in the NHL was him ever playing in it and overcoming the odds to do so.

  22. avatar BB says:

Hi Chris, tell your people in Islander management that while invoices were mailed out, many, many season ticket holders did not receive there’s and it’s going to make non-renewing a hell of a lot easier. No one expects any follow-up phone calls either, they can’t reverse the charges.LOL

  23. avatar Spinner Spencer says:

I love DP more than I can say, but please do not start him this year anymore. I can’t stand to see another flaccid wrister from the point beat him stick side. He is over and out. Let the kids go for it! DP should be doing promos on KC TV or wherever Charlie will be sending them off. PLEASE BEAT THE RANGERS TONITE!!!

  24. avatar Stumpy32 says:

Let’s not root to lose out the season, ok? As much as the recent stretch of quality play has burgeoned our hopes for next season, a 6-8 game streak of lousy hockey to end the season would cloud it significantly. The fact is, we can play decently and still fall behind Ottawa into the #3 spot. It’s likely that we’re not going to drop enough to get to the #2, and we won’t win enough to get up to Jersey or Atlanta at #6 or #7. We will go into the lottery at #3, 4, or 5. Either one is fine with me. We will likely have a top 5 pick, and unless we are really, really unlucky, that adds another great player into the young mix for 2011-12.

I’m excited. Win this one tonight, and then beat Pitt to go out on a high note.

  25. avatar Jtorbust says:

Grabs needs to watch the scene in rocky when Adrian is in the hospital and she says “win rock win”. Let’s end an encouraging season on a high note and smack the rags around in the house that trots and bossy built. Let’s go islanders !!!

  26. avatar Steve M says:

Need the Isles to win and spoil the Rags playoff hopes. Sorry to be a pessimist but I see a 4-1 Rag victory with a bigger Rag crowd than our fans.

  27. avatar Lorne says:

Would love to win tonight, but for some reason I see the Rangers barreling right over us. Hope I am wrong though.

  28. avatar Hollywood says:

Without Grabner this team is very different. As good a job we all hope Snow is doing the biggest impact guy on our team wasn’t drafted by us. That’s a little scary. Yes, Snow picked him up but if he turned out to be a dud then what would we think of this team. Would they have had the same second half without Grabner.

  29. avatar KaiserVanIslander says:

CB you ROCK! love the Panger!

  30. avatar Jim Clark says:

Will NCVMC be the usual 60% Rangers fans or will the place be 75% of Blueshirt faithful cheering on Sean Avery?

Why does Grabner have to take off for his kid being born when my father had to go on a business trip when my older sister was born? My mother had to stay with her parents in Pennsylvania for the blessed event. Both my sister and my parents marriage turned out okay. So much for all this talk about the dedication of players towards winning.

  31. avatar Mike says:

Snow is smart. He doesnt want or need the points. Sit Grabs again. Let the Rangers get in – they stink anyway.

  32. avatar Hock says:

This will be a good challenge for the Isles because the Rangers really need these 2 points (unless the Rags choke!)

  33. avatar Claude says:

For me these last games are anticlimatic
when there’s little to play for.If we don’t make playoffs next year this franchise will be finished

  34. avatar Justin says:

    DP…..must go…..

  35. avatar moonshine says:

i’ve made up my mind on konopka: keep him. i actually came to this conclusion after watching martin fight last night and throw a couple of ‘konopkas,’ those jabs using the fist that’s holding the other guy’s collar. if konopka brings martin along, that’s enough reason right there to keep him around next year.

  36. avatar isles316 says:

Grabner just tweeted that he is out tonight as well. Isles are down 7 players tonight so good luck!
