SNY POINT BLANK TV: DAVE HAKSTOL
North Dakota coach on Nelson and Gregoire
Thanks to the UND coach for his excellent insight on his two Islanders prospects and the college game. Thoughts on this interview are welcomed in the Comments thread.

Nice job, good to see that we have a large # of prospects on the way and many earning there way thru the collage ranks. Would you say that we have more or fewer prospects than other orginazations Playing collage?

I would not mind seeing Brock Nelson staying put at UND next season – developing in this program. From what I have read – and the times I have seen him play on TV ( US Juniors and UND telecasts) – he has a big future – but needs to stay healthy.
Gregoire has a more interesting decision. If he stays at UND – he gets a degree and another year in a fine program. If he goes to Bridgeport – he is closer to the NHL. Tough choice.

Great interview as usual. Sounds as if Isles too will have alot of decisions to make in the near future.
-
Let them stay at the development stage and mature.
There is no need for them in Bridgeport and they are not making the Isles in any event.
This year we need couple of UFA that could help in the playoffs, not developing kids. -
Interesting, enjoyable and informational segment. Not controversial like the subject of “goalies,” so I’ll predict the # of comments to reflect that.

Dave seems like an awesome coach. No wonder the Sioux has been as good as they’ve been.
Surprised the crap out of me? That’s what I call a cliffhanger.
Looking forward to that. -
Great coach, great program and great facilities. I would not be in a rush to pick a player out of there to put him into the minors. Gregoire could be the best player in college hockey next year if he stays at NoDak. He was possibly the best two way forward in college hockey this year. Brock is another nice prospect that I think will develop into a good hockey player where he is at. Future is looking bright for the Islanders.

Great stuff on both kids. Looking forward to seeing what happens with Gregoire over the next 11 months… Nelson, let him stay there for a while. Sounds like he has a lot of developing left to do. Also let him bulk up and grow into that nice frame.
Let me guess CB, Clarkson Head Coach George Roll to talk about the great progress he’s seen with Cody Rosen in the 92 minutes he played this season. As well as his understanding what Garth and NYI saw in him while sitting on the bench.

Great interview, as usual, Chris.
I’m quite thrilled that my alma mater is doing such a great job of developing Islander prospects… unlike our rivals five hours to the southeast.
-
…..CB still bringing it!
GO ISLANDERS!!!!

Awesome interview like usual Chris. This guy seems like a very smart coach and a great mentor for the young athletes. I feel like Nelson should at least play through his junior year. I don’t like to see players rushed. Just look at Rakhshani and how he excelled in the AHL his first year. He was mature, a smarter player, and knew all there was about off-season training and the work and dedication it takes to succeed.

These are wonderful because we learn more about Isles prospects, which is not always easy to do but between this and the college hockey on TV we are seeing a lot more of them before they show up on LI.
Brock Nelson will be an excellent player down the line. Jason is going to be interesting because as the coach said there are some CBA pressures on him now. He may be in Bridge next year.
Exciting thinking of the day when Nelson, Petrov, Kabanov,De Haan and Nino have all joined the current crop.

Just once I would like to hear about an Isles prospect that doesn’t include serious injuries. Is it me or has almost all of the Isles highly regarded prospects suffered a major injury already?
-
The future is bright for the Isles!
Thanks for the great coverage all YEAR long CB!!!!

Thank you Chris. I always enjoy these. I have been waiting
for at least one of the coaches to mention earning a degree as perhaps something to consider when deciding whether to turn pro. there seems to be less emphasis on that aspect than other considerations. It seems like this program and Notre Dame seem like great places for our prospects to develop. Just have them stay away from Minnesota. Actually, why don’t you get Lucia on the phone next.
