SNY FINALE – Jaffe, Bourne, “Boomer” and Brophy
Also: A Rookie Game Blowout and a Fond Farewell
The SNY Season Preview concludes with 30 minutes of Islanders talk.
We begin with Billy Jaffe of the NHL Network on Rolston, Reasoner, Okposo, Grabner and what the Islanders need to focus on when training camp opens this weekend.
Justin Bourne, formerly of USA Today and Puck Daddy and now with SCORE Media, talks about his excitement for this season, the rebuild’s next steps and danger of talking “prospects, prospects, prospects.”
Jim “Boomer” Gordon, the life-long Islanders fan and show host on NHL Home Ice, revisits the Strome-Hamilton debate and says what he expects of his Islanders this season.
Mike Brophy of Sportsnet ends the series with his views on Rick DiPietro and the Islanders’ goalie-go-round.
Islanders 7 Boston 2
The Islanders rookie squad came out fighting, received strong goaltending and blew out the Bruins’ kids, 7-2, tonight at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Ryan Strome and Nino Niederreiter put on the kind of performances that have the Islanders very bullish about their future. Tyler McNeely also impressed on their line. Kirill Kabanov and Casey Cizikas had eye-opening shifts as well. Anders Nilsson was excellent in net in his North American debut as an Islander.
The bad news: Mark Katic, a diligent young pro on the cusp of becoming a solid NHL depth defenseman and quite possibly more, suffered a dislocated shoulder.
Otherwise, it was a grand night for the faithful at the old barn on Hempstead Turnpike.
And Finally, On a Personal Note…
After three seasons of Islanders coverage, my participation as a full-time writer at Point Blank ends today.
Recognizing the devoted readership of this blog and the demand for more Islanders coverage, my partners at SNY will take a little time to pursue the idea of continuing Point Blank with new writers. I’m supportive of their efforts and hope you will please stay tuned to this space for further details. In the interim, SNY plans to update Point Blank with news during training camp.
I want to thank Islanders fans near and far for giving me three of the most fun and rewarding years of my adult life. I loved every day that I had the opportunity to write about your hockey team and will really miss doing this. It’s just time for me to turn the page and focus on other things.
As I tell everyone in the business, the success of Point Blank has little to do with the writer and just about everything to do with one of the most passionate and underrated fan bases in pro sports. That’s why I hope SNY, incredible partners and friends of mine at every level, continues its Islanders coverage.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope we provided some insight into the Islanders’ rebuilding program and that you’ll be able to see the team take those exciting next steps very soon. If there is any small way I can contribute to helping the Islanders stay in Nassau or in a nearby New York community in which they can thrive, count me in.
On behalf of my family, our thanks and best wishes are extended to the New York Islanders organization and to all of the residents of Islanders Country. It was an honor to talk about your team with you.
Chris

Good luck.
-
Sorry that you are leaving, Chris. Thanks for the coverage of the Isles, and best of everything for you and the family.
-
Best of luck in whatever comes next. Thanks for all the great coverage.
-
WHAT!! Leaving??? You scared us with this a couple of years ago. Now it’s coming true. I really don’t know what I’m going to do without clicking on this 1000 times every day to get your keen insight and behind the scenes news. You were always impeccable. I personally can’t thank you enough for your amazing coverage of this team. This blog became part of my everyday routine and I’m extremely disappointed you’re leaving, even if they continue with it. Just won’t be the same without you. Best of luck in whatever you’re moving on to. Not like you’ll need it. And once again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
-
I saw Farewell and thought someone left the organization. I wasn’t expecting it to be you!
Best wishes to you and your family, CB.
Nice showing by the boys tonight. Makes me feel great about the future. I hope I see you in the stands this season and we can enjoy a win.
-
Chris we’ll deeply miss you, you were great for us. You’re the best Islander coverage guy the Island’s ever seen. On a side note (not to diminish the magnitude of your departure) is there anyone else you can recommend for Islander coverage now that you and Katie Strang have stopped full time Islander coverage?
-
Awesome win tonight from what I saw on my comp.
Chris: nothing but the best to you and yours. Thanks for everything you did for the team and the fans.
-
I could not be more sorry to hear this CB. The best of luck in all your future endeavors. There are some good bloggers out there, but nothing that compares to this space. You will be SORELY missed.
-
Thank You!
-
What the f–k Chris.
-
Thank me? Thank you.
-
Well there goes the neighborhood. Without CB writing about the Isles they might as well play on the moon. There will be absolutely no coverage of this team from any of the NY papers. ESPN and other sports outlets ignore hockey so that’s a dead end. And the Isles website is a puff factory that constantly tells us “this is our year” and somehow find positive stories to write about when the Isles lose 7-1. Thank you CB for all of the time you have given us and I hope to see you at some games this year! Also thank you for using this space to promote some of the other sites because we’re going to need them. Lighthouse Hockey is my second stop after pointblank and if these guys can’t keep PB going that will be our best bet. Good luck CB!
-
You gave us everything you had and more for three years. I’m ticked off but I cannot blame you. Good luck.
-
Nothing but a class act Chris. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to this team, and it’s fans. I wish nothing but the best for you, and your family in the future. God Bless.
-
This site won’t be the same without you. You say it’s the fans who made this site successful but you were the leader and the voice.
We will miss your blogs, comments, snide remarks and overall opinion, whether it was supportive or not.
-
Chris, I am going to miss checking IPB on a daily basis to get my Islander fix. The way you were “banned” from the Coliseum bothers me to this day but I don’t feel like ripping the Islanders again on that matter. Anyways, good luck and more importantly good health to you and your family and I really, really, really hope to have you back at the Coliseum real soon. Be well buddy.
-
Have a feeling you thought about this a long time ad it wasn’t an easy decision. Although I’ll miss PB I understand sometimes you have the cut the cord.
-
CB, thanks for the devoted work! BTW this still sucks!
-
Thank you Chris…
-
Chris, thanks for all the hard work and great interviews you have given over the years you will be missed
-
can’t believe this, make sure you let us know where ever your next job may be, best of luck and thanks for all the coverage from on the ice to the arena problems, it was second to none
-
Two big wins for Garth tonight. I hope you two hug it out and have a laugh. You were good for this team and for us. Thanks CB
-
Chris, I have used your site as the first stop at finding all of my Isles info. I have enjoyed your unbiased writings immensely and I am extremely disappointed that this is the end of the road. I hope you find great success in this new chapter in your life and hope that we will see more from you in the future. Thanks for everything!
-
I dreaed this day. Had a hunch it was coming soon. Sorry to hear you’re leaving but understand and respect your decision. Take care CB.
-
Thank you for everything CB, your work over the past 3 years has been the best & most honest coverage this team has ever had in my 20+ years being an Islanders fan… Best of luck in your future endeavors. I’m sure whatever is in store for you, you will succeed just as you did with this blog.
See ya at the games.
-
Chris, I can’t tell you how upset I just got reading this news. You truly were one of the only things that us Islander fans had going for us the last couple of years. You’ve done an amazing job and it truly is our loss seeing you go. Hope you find something bigger and better and are able to share the joy in a few playoff victories in the near future. Best of luck.
-
Thank you so much Chris. I’m from Lynbrook and I hope someday we can run into each other and talk Isles. My brother Randy used to work for the team and he always speaks highly of you. Your passion and devotion will be sorely missed.
-
feels like i just got dumped…haha
thanks for everything cb!! changed the way
the isles fit into my life. -
first you… then the team…. the only cure is a winning season. gluck with the journey that is life.
-
Best of luck Chris. Thank you for all you did for Todd. We hope you future endeavers bring you and your family health and happiness.
Sheldon
-
Say it ain’t so, Chris!!! Thanks for all of your tireless work & dedication to making this site the best! Hopefully SNY keeps this going and the team figures out a way to stay in or close to Nassau County. Best of luck to you and your family in your future endeavors.
-
No words other than THANK YOU.
-
Thanks Chris for all of your hard work and excellent coverage of the Islanders. After moving to Philadelphia – your insightful columns and accurate reporting have been a breath of fresh air. Looking forward to continue reading you on other sites.
-
Chris, I didn’t write here often, but I always read. It is very sad to see you go and I wish you the best of luck.
-
WOW! Sorry that you’re leaving us CB. I have said on numerous occasions, I was a huge fan, but as the team faded in the 90s, so did my time following it, though I never lost my alliegence. . Then, 3 years ago, when the teams fortunes were at their lowest, I found this blog, and my interest became born again. I have to thank you from the bottom of my heart CB for giving me my hockey team back.
Best of luck always CB, hope to see you at a Islanders Stanley Cup celebration hopefully in the not to distant future.
GO ISLES!
-
I respect you wanting to low key your goodbye, but bury it under 4 videos and a meaningless rookie game comeback? Sheesh!
Just kidding. Best of luck in whatever you’ve got going on. Our loss and the Isles’ loss.
-
Thanks for the great coverage over the years. Even without a media pass, you still had the best coverage. Best of luck in the future.
-
This is a SAD, SAD, day for us Isles fans. I just want you to know that I could see thru all of the posts over the years that you have given your all to this site for 3 years, and I have appreciated it tremendously. You have made the last 3 years of following this team bearable, even though we weren’t winning. I have learned more about hockey and the Isles because of this site. I just wish that the team understood what you have meant to us fans. Good luck in your future.
-
This is my nightmare!!!
-
Wow I haven’t even listened to the interviews yet but read the horrible news. Just as post #4 said, what am I gonna click a 1000 times a day for NYI news and updates and insight and coverage all together? This is very sad news but I guess all good things must come to an end…thanks CB for this site and all the energy and great stuff you’ve given us over the past few years. All of us in Islanders Country are gonna miss you and IPB…best of luck and thank you!!!
Let’s Go Islanders!!!!!
-
Thanks a lot for all of the great coverage CB! This has been my most visited site all year long since it’s inception. I’ve always felt PB was one of the best team specific blogs across all sports. We’re all going to miss your always objective insight. Good luck with all of your future endeavors.
-
Chris, thank you so much for everything you have done for us Isles fans. It’s been a rough few years, but you and your site have been one of the few positives we could count on. Disappointed to hear this news, but thankful for the gift of pointblank you gave us and will hopefully carry on. Would love to see the pointblank nights continue! Also hope this means I’ll be seeing you at the gym again now!
-
Appreciated your coverage and devotion to the team and its’ fans over the years. Thank you for all your hard work, both on the website and rallying fans with your meet-ups. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
-
As someone who doesn’t have access to Katie Strang (subscription only) this is devastating news. Where do we turn? Help us out Chris.
-
I will miss waking up every morning, making a cup of coffee and sitting down to start my day by reading IPB. Thank you for all of the unparalleled coverage. Nothing but the best to you and your family. And good luck in your next professional endeavor. YOU WILL BE MISSED !
-
Wow! I guess the only constant in life is change. All the best and thanks! GO ISLES!
-
Chris! I just got home from the game and immediately came here to catch up on stories but didn’t even bother to read them after I read your note. I just want to thank you SO much for being the number 1 contributor to Islanders news these past 3 years. Your coverage and insight are second to none. I wish you the best of luck in the future. Thank you for giving us all such superb stories, articles and interviews. You will be missed dearly. Thanks again!
-
well first they took your press pass mow the website maybe garth snow can have your hands taken off next. This is prob the worst news of the day. You better make a new website and just crush point blank. In my opinion SNY just took your baby from you and think that we are all too stupid to realize that we arent going to win anything again this year and just feed us we almost won garbage all year
-
Thanks for everything you did, Chris. You will be missed.
-
Wow. This creates a terrible void for Islanders fan. We’ll dearly miss your dedicated and tireless coverage. Point Blank was always our first stop for Islanders coverage. No other media outlet came close. I hope SNY is able to continue the site, as it is invaluable to Isles fans.
Chris, thank you for all of these great years. You always were great to the readers – chats, meet ups, columns, email responses. You’ll be sorely missed. We all hope the next project is rewarding, personally and financially. You deserve it. Please stay in touch with your readers.
-
Thank you, CB. You’ve filled a tremendous void for Isles fans for the last few years and provided a forum for those clamoring for a dedicated coverage of a team that they love, but doesn’t always love them (and certainly didn’t always love you) back. Along the way, your talent, tremendous insights, and true class were evident. All the best — I’m confident your success will continue in future endeavors.
-
Thank you all your hard work these past three years. This Blog has done more to keep our fanbase connected to the team then even you can imagine.
You will be missed by so many. Good luck with your future endeavors.
-
Wow! Great win tonight, but yet a heartbreaker for a all us Islanders fans who religiously visit this site multiple times daily. Chris, you have raise the bar for all “bloggers” , beat reporters, and sports journalists as well… not so bad on IPBtv either. Will you be a guest writer or reporter on the site you founded? Will you be doing any Isles and or NHL reporting? What about a regular gig on SNY hosting a hockey show to give MSG some competition?
It will be tough for me, but that is just selfish talk. Glad I got the brief opportunity to shake hands and talk for a minute at the 2009 Tavares Draft Party.
Chris, I wish you good luck, much success, health and happiness to you and your family. Thank you! -
I almost cried….
Thank you so much CB, and you should be forever proud for all you’ve done for many of the fans of this beloved franchise.
-
A great 3 years. Thanks from a West Coast Isles fan formally of Baldwin.
Best to you and the family and of course the blue and orange. -
Well that sucks! I guess Snow got what he wanted and we lose what we wanted. Not a great moment for Islander fans.
-
What? is this april fools? i hope this means, your the new beat writer for newsday!
-
Your insightful analysis, thoughtful anecdotes, and genuine attitude/attentiveness helped me not only appreciate this team, but the sport and sports media as a whole. Your colleagues and family are lucky. I will look forward to the Times pieces you will pen in the future as well as hopefully running into you at a hockey game in the coming years. All the best Chris!
-
Sorry to hear you are leaving. It saddens me as well as the rst of us being the Islanders are hopefully on the cusp of turning things around and it doesn’t seem complete without your insight. Goodluck to you.
-
Quitter! Best of luck to you and yours in the future. My hunch is that you turn up sooner than later but covering the Rangers this time.
-
Chris,
Thanks for the tremendous coverage over the past 3 years and your endless support for this (mostly) hapless organization. Despite its consideration for the biggest laughing stock of a sports organization, you approached coverage with professional aplomb, class, and great insight that will be missed. I really don’t know where I’m going to get my fix for true Isles news and straight-shooting about this team.
A sad day…indeed. -
CB,
A heartfelt Thank You from a long time New York Islanders fan, early reader of Point Blank and a loyal Long Islander. You have set the bar high, and i’m not sure this level of informative “blogging”, with actual franchise and professional contacts and credentials can ever be reached again. I hope and wish for the best of health for your boy, and wish you every success a life can offer. You deserve the very best, because you have given your faithful readers your very best. God bless you, godspeed. Warmest regards, and a fond fairwell.
-
Many thanks! You will be missed.
-
Simply put, you have provided the best, most in depth and entertaining coverage of any of my favorite teams ever. Whatever you have planned for the future, this is a body of work you can be proud of. Thank you.
-
Islanders country will miss you for sure. Not sure what we would have done without you over these years – IPB has been the best and most important source for Islanders coverage, and one of the best hockey sites on the web, and it’s because of you.
Big shoes to fill – hopefully this is a great move for you and your family, I wish you nothing but the best.
-
Now what do I do? Going to your site was a relished part of my daily routine. I will always remember the sweet anticipation of clicking on the islanderspointblank link to find if a new story or video had been posted. It usually made my day when a fresh piece was written about Islander’s prospects or some deep information on the club’s arena situation appeared. Your terrific and tireless work now absent will leave a void that will be impossible to fully fill. Best of luck, and I hope you find your endeavors are always fulfilling and rewarding. You certainly rewarded your many devoted fans over the last few years.
-
i am sure that i speak for many when i say that i am sick to my stomach that you are leaving. you were our only voice and the only place where we could get real unbiased coverage of the team we love. the sad news is with the isles getting zero coverage in the media thanks to the dysfunctional and aragant wang and snow who must be very happy after pushing you out the door are getting their wish tonight as the only true voice of the fans leaves. there is nothing more wang could have done anyway to destroy the franchise even more since he has succeeded in doing that beyond repair but i will always remember what the islander legacy once meant and i will always remember how hard you worked to keep us informed under very difficult circumstances after wang and snow tried to silence the only source of information we had on the team by banning you. good luck C.B. and thank you and maybe one day again after 2015 you will be back with the isles if by then wang sells the team to someone who cares and understands what the legacy, heritage, tradition and the new york islanders crest means.
-
CB, I just wanted to thank you for all you’ve done for the organization and all of the fans. It’s not too often we find a blogger as devoted to a team as you were. Your information was always spot on and you always kept us up to date. It’s a shame to see you go and I wish you all the best in the future. You will be missed.
-
All I can say is thank you Chris. Your dedication to this site and the team, even through tough times was amazing. Thank you for giving us Islanders fans a place to come for great Islanders coverage.
-
Snow has got to be tap dancing tonight. He hates all coverage except what his boy at Newsday writes. Can’t say I blame you CB but this does stink for us.
-
The Newsday guy tweeted today something about most of their sports stories now being free on the web. I don’t know how long that will last but its something.
Thanks and best of luck to ya CB. I appreciate all the time you spent on the blog.
-
Thanks Chris. I hope SNY brings in Jaffe.
-
You’re going out on top. Congratulations and thanks.
-
Thanks for sticking around for the draft and the arena issue. You did your best for Picker and Co and I’m sure they are grateful after everything that happened last season. You’re a class act.
-
I don’t think the Isles realize that this blog was responsible for me spending a lot of money on tickets and stuff at the Coliseum over the last 3 years. Snow may be happy but there’s no way the team is.
-
It was fun while it lasted. Thanks Chris.
-
Its been a pleasure reading the past 3 years. Gonna miss this. Best of luck and thank you!
-
Why keep IPB running? it began and ends with Chris. No reason to continue, it just won’t be the same. Good luck
-
Like a lot of their other bad ideas, this is what the Islanders wanted. They will regret it. I’m friends with one of the sales guys and he told me a few times that PB is good for his business.
-
Thanks for the 3 years, Mr. Botta! I loved reading your stories and watching the interviews.
-
Thank you so much for everything C.B. I am going to miss reading your stuff everyday on this site, I was really looking forward to another Point Blank night! We will all miss you, best of luck to you and your family. You’re a class act, Lets Go Islanders!!!!!
-
Why couldn’t it be Rick DiPietro who is leaving?
-
Thanks for everything Chris. Over the last several years, a day has not gone by where I never checked this site. This news is a real bummer for Islander fans, but I hope it’s a new and happy beginning for you. Are you the new Isles reporter for Newsday? Best of luck!!!
-
You probably shed a few tears over this decision like I did but I think you’re doing the right thing. Sometimes you have to move on. I would have liked to see you stay for another season since it should be exciting, but I get why you’re doing it now.
Thanks, Chris.
Diana
-
Thanks for the amazing coverage CB, you will be missed.
-
Thanks for everything, Chris
-
The article said “full time” coverage. What about “part time”?
-
Really sorry to to see you leave Chris, thanks for the last 3 years. Its hard enough to find hockey news, forget about actual Islander coverage, best of luck in the future.
-
NOOOOOO!!! Man your too Classy Botta….I will always remember your great coverage of our belove team….Good luck too you and thank you for EVERYTHING……I hope you,Mrs.Botta, and the Boys stay healthy and Happy…..Love Ya Botta Bing
-
God bless you and your family Chris. Thank you.
-
STOP HAVING PRESEASON GAMES> EVRYONE GETS INJURED. Streit and now katic tear their shoulders. NO MORE GAMES UNTIL the home opener.
-
I’m shocked. Thanks for everything, PB has rekindled my passion for the islanders over the last three years. I hope this site continues on in some form..but it wont be the same. All the best and go islanders
-
thanks CB, your gonna be missed more than you can imagine..
Bye fellows Isles fans -
THANK YOU CB FOR ALL YOUR INCREDIBLE WORK!!! YOU ARE THE BEST
-
Thanks for everything Chris. Being from Ct I clicked on our blog every day to hopefully get a new story. As soon as I click the submit button tonight IPB will be off my booksmark toolbar. Good luck in the future with your family.
-
Not enough words from any of us to describe our sincere gratitude for the work and passion you have shown over the years. I can only wish you and your family best wishes and nothing but success in your future endeavors. Thank you.
-
Thank you Chris! Good luck!
-
Testamonial time!
CB – thank you, said with everything I’m made of and everything I got.I have learned so incredibly much from you as a professional and how you’ve handled this part of the ride of your career path. Your ways have provided some much needed guidance to me in my own career and I’m so grateful for that. And lucky, because while your twins may brag that their dad knows me, you have noooooo idea the props I get when the Isles fans who come by the shop, find out that you come by as well!
I’m sure I’m one of the many many on here who owe it to the passion and coverage you’ve provided as the reason our die hard islander ways have heightened exponentially.
Yes the team has been slowly on the rise, but this site is the reason my passion for the team is leaps and bounds passed where I was in previous year, even previous more successful team years.I will stay tune here and to whatever is next for you…best of luck, rooting for you big time, and hope to see you soon!
-
Thanks, CB. We’ll miss you.
-
I feel we lost you last year. Now it’s just finally offical
Best of luck for your future -
Chris, thanks from every Islanders fan out there. You kept us going when we had no media outlets covering the team with real in depth analysis (and still don’t) and through the ups and downs of the past few years. From a fan who no longer lives on long island, islanderspointblank.com kept me involved with the team I love. I hope you change your mind, but most of all hope you’re happy with whatever career decision you choose.
-Andrew (originally from Syosset, NY)
-
Best of luck to you Chris. Best of health to you and the family. Appreciate everything and from one big Tonelli Fan to another, if you ever find yourself in Denver, look me up and I’ll buy you a beer.
Thanks!
-
I sincerely hope all is well with your family and this decision is not a result of any hardship. Considering your talent, passion and wonderful personality, something bigger, better and financially rewarding is out there waiting for you.
From a fans perspective, the death of Islanderspointblank and your absence, metaphorically is the destruction of the bridge to and beacon from the Lighthouse beaming toward our beloved Islanders. Due to the distance the Isles Organization chooses to create between themselves and their fanbase, without your Bridge and Light,we are in the dark with no place to go. I trust you will do everything in your power to have SNY support a similar vehicle for we diehards, but doubt the new blogger if there will be one, could be expected to invest the same love you have for this Franchise and display enough passion to perceive himself as one of us.
Wherever you go and whatever your next endeaver will be,always remember, you are indeed the representative of all of us and a fine one at that! G-ds speed, good health and good luck!!! -
great isles win. strome, nino and nilsson stood out tonight.
CB, this is truly sad to hear. All the best to you. Does this means the end of isles sports coverage. Lets face it, unless isles rip it up this year. point blank is dead.
Its in Our players hand now. LETS GO ISLES
-
Sorry to see you move on Chris. You made the fiascoes of the past few seasons bearable and provided more in depth coverage of my favorite team than I thought would ever be possible. I have enjoyed your writing and coverage of the Isles from the first time I discovered IPB on the net. I don’t think you truly realize yet how much you will be missed by all of us. You are irreplaceable. I hope that IPB will continue even if there are other main writers and if it does, I fully expect you to post a story or at least some thoughts on the team as often as possible.Good luck to you and your family where ever life takes you.

Sorry to hear about this CB, since you and this site are one and the same. I worry about the media moves this week and hope it isn’t a canary in a coal mine. Good luck
-
Thanks for sticking it out this long, its been a good ride. Though you may not be on the site any longer, its comforting to know you’ll still be alongside us in the stands.
From one fan to another,
best of luck on your future endeavors! -
CB … are you going to do something else? I was just getting psyched for your thorough hockey content for the season. You are the most passionate Islanders hockey journalist out there. We are going to notice the black hole of Islanders coverage very quickly.
I do hope to see your work somewhere else. Please let us know where we can find you.
Thanks for your dedication to this blog … It’s been my first stop… I know you know how much us Isles fans appreciate what you have given us over the years … but take what you know and multiply it … because your work has been invaluable.
Hope you and your family get to enjoy this season without the BS that you had to endure while keeping this blog going.
-
God Bless to you and your family!!! Thank you for everything. The Isles did you wrong and you stood tall. You are a class act.
-
Thanks for your great work, Chris. Best of luck in the future. Hope you still kick around Islander Mania.
-
This wesbite revived my passion as an islanders fan. There was something about this website that made me check it over ten times a day….it always seemed I looked hear for breaking news, insight on prospects, coliseum updates, and posts from other passionate readers. I feel islanders country lost a huge piece of its heart tonight it can never replace.
-
Chris,
you provided provided a ton of both informed and varied insight. at this venue, you were passionate, dedicated, and honest in what you printed, even if we didnt want to believe it about our club.
you’ve set a high standard here in terms of content and professionalism in your written and video pieces. the club wont acknowledge it, but your efforts have kept the fanbase FIRED UP during this rebuilding process. thanks for your efforts, and nothing but continued success wherever life takes you personally and professionally.
BEST MOMENT EVER- at the draft, a team laptop in plain view browsing islanderspointblank. they may not acknowledge you, but they damn well paid attention you. -
Chris, it was a true pleasure reading your thoughts on Point Blank. Thank you for your devotion to us Fans over these many years. As I have mentioned to you personally, you were the reason why I became a season ticket holder the season after Spano was “found out”. Your dedication and true love for the Team and its fans were apparent way back then.
Good luck in your future challenges and keep us updated on where you go.
-
I cant thank you enough for your insight and it really is about the writing and not just the fan base. Alot of islander blogs do not even come close to point blank in the way it is written. This is the worst news ive heard in a while. I used to brag about how the islanders of all teams truely had the best in depth blog site of any professional team. Just like the Islanders. It all comes to an end. This is just a precurser to worst days as an islander fan. Thanks for everything Chris. Loved checking your site 10 times a day. i will check no more.
-
A sad day for Islanders fans. CB you will be greatly missed!! I will miss the game day chats with you and all the other passionate Isles fans. Best wishes in whatever your future holds. S.W.
-
Chris, in lieu of thank yous, please send cash. Thanks.
-
why are you leaving us. Is something going down that we’re afraid to hear.. if isles are going in the right direction why wouldnt you want to be here when they bring the cup back. please isles come to brooklyn and get out of that depressed long island.
-
something is just not right.
-
chris,
thanks for what you have done, as a reader from the start i will miss your insight to our team on long island, god speed. and again thanks for bringing my islanders in to my house in cochrane, albertajoe mcivor
-
p.s.
will show off my islanderspointblank at the isles flames game

Chris,
Thank you for all that you have done for Islanders fans both during your time with the team and after. I’ve been a reader since day one but rare contributor. You are a first class individual. I hope you continue to champion the cause to keep the Islanders in the NY metro area wherever your endeavors may take you. Thanks again for all you have done!
-
CB getting my Isles Info will never be the same. I no longer have 1 site where I can watch interviews with coaches who coach our prospects in the juniors, or see what a scout has to say about the team. CB you did such a great job with this site and I personally was on here DAILY always anxious to see what you had written or the new interviews you conducted
I will dearly miss reading your scoops and your view on this team. Its been such a privilege to have this site accessible to me and I will miss it. CB thank you so so much for everything you have given us fans and be well, best wishes to you and your family and thank you again for everything
-
CB, thanks for all that you have done. This was THE SITE for all Isles goodness….Lighthouse does a solid job, too…..I must say that many of us are very sad about this. I wish you and your family the best and hope I’ll run into you and Brian at Doolin’s one of these nights. Cheers!!!!!!
-
Chris I can’t believe this, I am on the verge of tears now. There are hardly any sites I bookmark, but this one is at the top of my screen every time I open my browser cause I visit this site multiple times a day. Your coverage of the Islanders and unique videos with coaches are amazing. You went above and beyond what any of us could ever ask or hope for. I still am in shock. I do not know how I am going to get my Islanders news anymore. I’ve never seen a person who cared more about the Islanders and their fans than you. The meet-ups you put together at places like Social were always a fun time. You are an incredible person and will be missed so much by this entire fan base. Thank you for everything.
-
You did the right thing Chris. It was a great three years and you did alot for the team and the fanbase. I wish you and your family all the best.
-
Cheers!
-
You’re leaving when the blog is as popular as ever. Very few people do that so I respect that. Good luck.
-
You will be missed Chris. I read this every day in AM. You have brought a lot to isles fans. I have always stood behind you during your rough time when you barred from games and was more than honored to have you take my question during SNY Q and A. Best of luck to you and I truly, truly hope the best for you.
-Chris Governara -
Very excited to hear that JT and his agent are backing up the talk and looking to do a longterm deal. I remember you interviewed his agent for a PB story at the Winter Classic and he said John didn’t want to play anywhere else.
Congrats on an awesome run CB
-
You did a phenomenal job for Isles fans for 3 years. We really can’t ask for anything more. Thanks and best wishes, Chris.
-
Chris , as I always say – thanks for eveything you do with this blog. More people then you think really enjoys this b/c its the only real Islander talk anywhere. But after the last few months of seeing this blog built up with the video segments, I could not wait to see what would come next this season….I hate to say it but I am really disappointed. The Isles need you & the many fans need you….from lineup changes to in depth draft projections….they will be missed….I hope this is not really ending before the season even begins……
-
Lots of changes in the Isles press. This is a big loss. I hope you and SNY sign up good writers to carry the torch. There are lots of blogs out there but they are rarely worth reading.
-
This would never have happened if you would have just followed Dee and brought cookies to Garth every game. Learn to bake!
Best to you and the family, CB. Hope Cole’s doing well.
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! SAY IT AINT SO!
-
OMG CB, i cant believe it, ur site is one of my 1st 3 sites i bring up as soon as i turn on the computer. I’m going to miss ya. Good luck and continue speaking your mind.
-
This stinks. Sorry to see you cutting the cord.
-
Thanks for your time. Good luck to you and your family!
-
At least give us 2 weeks notice. Take care CB.
-
If the Isles get off to a rough start I could only imagine what a landmine the comments threads would be like here. So I guess you’re bolting at the right moment.
Thanks for all the coverage. Some of the other bloggers and their readers loved to take shots at you but no one delivered more and better posts than you.
-
Wait, what?? Where are you going? We need you, man.
-
The Tavares story is funny because it starts off making it sound like the signing would be soon but then JT talks about how long negotiations could go on and even says it might not happen until late in the season. Either way I’m glad to hear the news.
Thanks for the coverage. I loved coming to PB every day even more than you say you did working on it.
-
Enjoy the time with your family CB. You earned it.
-
There are a lot of nice tributes to you on Twitter and people responding on your Facebook page. Well deserved. Bummed about this but excited for the season. Thanks Chris.
-
CB, all the best to you as you move on to the next phase of your life. You will be missed. Thanks for all the wonderful coverage of the Isles these past 3 years.
-
Chris,
I wish you and your family nothing but the best life has to offer. Really enjoyed meeting you at the holiday party at Social last year. I am going to miss reading your work. Your interviews and articles were fabulous. The big question now is who is going to provide good coverage of this team. I really feel that this franchise is going to be long forgotten in the media.
-
With you and Katie Strang gone, I’m going to have to drastically alter my top Twitter accounts to follow. Best of luck – hope someone can replace you. I NEED this site
-
Chris, The amount of joy I had every time I clicked on to pointlank, (at least 5x a day)just can’t be replaced. The passion you brought out in us was endless. for the past 10 yrs, I felt I was the only Islander fan around, and then I read your site. Hundreds of fellow islander fans, all with their own unique perspective, I was in heaven, all thanks to you. I can’t thank you enough for all the times I came home from work really stressed out and the only thing that relaxed me was your fair and insightful writing that finally gave the fans a voice. I am at a loss for words, but I will never forget that you single handedly kept my passion for this team alive even though sometimes I felt so alienated by the owner and management. you brought me back from the ledge, Thank you! Just know that you can count on my support with all your endeavors, and I hope they are as brilliant as you are! You will leave a void in many of our lives, but as long as we know you are healthy and happy we will be O.K., because you are one of our own. Love and happiness always, one of YOUR biggest fans.
-
Thank you for your devotion to the Islanders and your readers. Best of luck as you move forward.
-
Welp I guess I can stop coming to this site 5 to 10 times a day. This is awful. SNY will cover the Islanders just as much as Newsday does. I know it sounds selfish but CB I’m mad at you!
-
CB, I know we have to pursue our dreams in life but is leaving this site at your age, with a wife and three boys (a dog too right?)for a career is musical theater really the wisest move?
You are going to be missed deeply. You delivered the kind of coverage and access I used to dream about as an Islander fan growing up in Florida (and crap really until you invented this thing). This site has been a trend setter with other team attempting to replicate it. It has been a boon for the Isles connecting us all so much more deeply to the team. I wish you and your family the best.
To the decision makers at SNY, I beg you to keep this site going. I am not a Newsday Subscriber and nor would I ever be. There coverage is garbage. This is the level and kind of coverage Isles fans need and deserve. You see the traffic it has gotten from Botta building it and this site will be a huge success for SNY if you continue it. I BEG YOU! I check this site 10-20-or more times per day, it is my favorite website!
-
Chris it has been a pleasure these past three years following your blog and reading your unique insights into my favorite sports team on the planet. You will be deeply, deeply missed for your contributions here and I wish you all the best with your future endeavors. What a sad day, but I know that as you pass these crossroads brighter days are ahead for you and the team.
Farewell for now CB!
Your loyal fan,
JonathanNorth Bellmore, NY
-
this is extremely sad but it was an absolute pleasure reading your blog and wish you the best of luck in the future
-
No Chris Botta on PB. F*ck PB then. WoW Chris. It feels like my high school sweetheart just dumped me.
-
Going to miss the site. Thanks for the last three years.
-
You can see any locked Newsday content by simply viewing a cached version of the page through google, click text only and voilà . There are some nice quotes from JT! Good Luck MR.Botta!
-
last year CB’s credential gets pulled, billy jaffe gets removed…this year strang jumps to espn, deb placey is now doing devils games, and CB is out of PB. Who is stirring the cool aid?
-
If you became the new Newsday Isles beat writer Garth would have to reinstate your credentials, right? Jk, thanks for everything CB. This has been my daily first stop for the last 2 years, you will be missed.
-
Well, that’s a shame to hear that you are giving it up, but thanks for the years you wrote this blog.
I’ve enjoyed it and will miss it.
-
You will be missed. I’m sure you are moving on to bigger and better things. I hope that you can fill us in with you future endevors. I would like to follow your journalistic career. You have brought a passion to a passionless group of fans. You have a way to connect with people on a personal level, yet write a professionally written story. I will miss you covering the Islanders, but I will keep following you on Twitter and see what you are writing. Please let us know if where you’ll be writing on the daily.
Ciao for now… Patrizio
-
Chris, I’ve definitely dreaded hearing those words come from your mouth…
Will definitely miss your work and coverage of our Isles on a daily basis. Your work has kept us in the loop on the Isles on a level that we’ve never really seen before.
Selfishly, I’ll miss it like crazy. But for you, I’m happy for you and your family.
Good luck with wherever you end up next…
You’ll be missed here…
-
best of luck–Does you mentioning “full time” mean you will be here every now and then?
-
Gary (162), That’s a great question. Will you be writing here or have some contribution from time to time?
-
Chris,
Thank you for the past 3 years. Honestly, I don’t know what I would have done without you (as I don’t live on LI and don’t subscribe to Newsday). You have become a household name in my house full of Flyers fans (minus me, of course). You provided some great coverage with and without press credentials, and you will be sorely missed. I think what I’ll miss the most is your ability to point out the positives just when there didn’t seem to be any (take that, Garth Snow!). Best of luck with whatever you decide to do and please walk away realizing that despite your saying it is the fan base, the writer had a lot to do with it as well.
-
Thanks CB.
The Islanders should forward a commission check to you for every every sale made in the new team store.
Without you and ipb this team would have been completely rather than marginally irrelevant for the past three years.
Best of luck with your new endeavors. -
Shocking news Chris. Don’t know if I always saw it the same way but your coverage of the team over the past few years made me a bigger fan just because of your insight.
Wish you all the best with your next opportunity.
-
Thanks for your insight. Good luck to you.
You are a good man.Liked the way the rookies looked last night.
Dehaan looked calm , it looks like an excellent pick.
Pedan just might have it, I remember Chara in his first game looking kind of lost and unsure on the ice, the same hesitation from Pedan, if he gives us 70% of what Chara does its a good thing. Other than the obvious Nino and Strome, McNeely impressed me . At least we got good goaltending last night, or after the 3 fights in the first few seconds of the game, Boston was kind of out of it.CB again Good luck to you.
-
Thank you CB for all the hard work you put in. Who will pick up the torch and carry on from here? Where will isles fans go to get team analysis? Good luck with your future and many thanks.
Mike ( Montauk )
-
Thank You!!!
-
This feels worse than a LIPA power outage.
But best wishes to you and thank you for your incredible Islanders coverage.
-
Chris,
On a selfish note, I do not know what will take up the void in my life that you leaving will create. Your dedication made me very happy to be able to read about my favorite team on a daily basis, even in mid summer.
Thank you for everything you have done for our fan base, you will be greatly missed! I hope that you come back for a cameo here and there. Thanks again and best of luck! -
Thank you, Chris, for all of your work and best of luck in your future endeavors.
-
Chris,
You’ve been my go to source for great Islanders coverage for the last three years. You’ve made it bearable to watch our team go through all their struggles and for that I thank you. Good luck with whatever your next steps in life are, you are a true professional and credit to your profession.
I hope Cole is continuing to recover from his surgery.
Sincerely,
Ian
Charlotte, NC -
All good things come to an end I guess. Good luck in your future endeavors.
-
Chris,
I am sad to think of not being able to read your passionate and honest take on the N Y I. Thank you for everything and thanks for the inspiration to start K o C. Best to you and your family. Hope to hear from you in the future.
Joe Bondi
-
Thanks for your dedication and passion about this team Chris.
It is important for the Islanders organization to know that this blog and others like it are what brought me back to being a rabid Isles fan after such a long drought of futility (that’s as nice as I can say it).
Having access to information such as players in the system, what goes on in the background (stories on “Sudsie” for example), and opinions of the team present and future is what brought me, and many others I am sure, back to truly caring about this team. I feel a connection to the team again after these last few years that was lost.
That feat alone is already your contribution to keeping the team on Long Island so take pride in that.
Good luck in your future endeavors and I am sure Isles fans will hear from you again some way.
-
CB,
I really don’t know what to say except Thank You. We got to know each other as Islander fans years ago. You gave my son a great hat at a season ticket holder event at Eisenhower Park years ago. He’s 15 now but still has it. More importantly, you gave all of us a feeling that we were getting info we could trust as the truth about our beloved Islanders. The credibility you have for honest, un-biased coverage is tough to acquire but you did it. Congratulations on the success you made of this blog. The reason we all come here multiple times a day is YOU – That’s it. If SNY tries to keep this going, you will be a tough act to follow. Good luck in your future with your young family and nothing but the best for you in what life has to offer. -
Chris best of luck to you and your family.
Just to think 175 people commented in under 12 hours of your post must tell you how important this page is to everyone. Thanks for everything that you did on islander news. -
Man-this sucks.
Thanks for the coverage, I really enjoyed your work. You did a great job.Im disappointed to see you go.
-
Thanks for everything Chris…Wish you the best of luck in all you future endeavors…Going to miss the coverage, like everyone else, but hopefully I will still be seeing you around the NHL community!
-
Thanks for everything.
It’s a sad day for Isles fans.
Your site gave us Stanley Cup caliber coverage.
All the best for you and your family going forward. -
Thanks for helping me find my way back to this franchise when my interest and devotion were in flux. You were a lifeline when the rest of the hockey media, and the Islanders themselves, basically ignored the team. The insider stories and unique point of view can’t be found anywhere else on the net. SNY would be wise to keep this site going. Good luck CB.
-
Thank you CB… All the best to you and your family.
Let’s go Islanders.
-
We will miss you CB. You have supplied me with incredible Islanders knowledge and I am grateful. Best wishes.
-
Very sorry to hear you are leaving CB. But totally understand. Thank you for 3 years of awesome Islanders coverage.
-
You will be missed. Thank you for everything
-
Thank you Chris for helping me re-connect with the Islanders. Your unique perspective on players, draft picks, coaches, and managers have given me a better idea of how the nuts and bolts of the franchise. I will sincerely miss your writing and this form.
I have some worry from your statement that you were pushed out the door by SNY and that bothers me. I’m sure that your decision was not easy and I hope it was made because you have another job lined up somewhere else. I must admit also that I also put some blame on Charles and Garth. Had they not revoked you credentials. I know that you’ve always taken the high road but it doesn’t mean that I have to.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
PS. You could have put up 10 videos and one with God and all we would ever want talk about is your Fond Farewell. -
Amen to all the previous posts.
If I can bring some joy to Islander Nation on this sad day. I was at the game tonight, the future my friends (wherever it may be) is looking bright.
Anders Nillson takes up an awful lot of net and is positionally solid. With him and Poulin our future we have a nice young tandem.
Strome will be a star in this league and he brings a lot different game than JT. Whereas JT’s strenght is from the circle in, Strome can skate the whole ice and has a rocket for a shot on the fly. Nino, Czikas and KK also impressed as did McNeely, who wasn’t even on my radar. Add Lee, Nelson and hopefully Petrov to the mix, and this is a lot of young depth.
While the JT deal hasn’t finalized, as CB points out, it is the commitment that is important. I honestly believe that this corps wants to stay, grow, and WIN together. Even a guy like Gallant, who will probably never see the NHL challenged one of the B’s goon squad after he elbowed Theriot (sp?).
Good luck Chris in wherever the road leads, and thanks again.
-
A truly great ride here at Pointblank.
Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to a grateful fan base. It has been a pleasure checking in to find out all about the Isles happenings good and bad.
Thanks again Botta, good luck to you.
We’ll keep you honest over at SNY not to worry ! -
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Sad way to start the day and the season. But THANK YOU Chris. You made following this team the past 3 years much more enjoyable. I remember sitting at a restaurant in Peru 2 years ago and checking PointBlank for updates. You did a great job with this site and will be sorely missed. Good Luck.
-
Feels like a swift kick to the groin, but totally understand. What you gave Islander fans during this time will never be duplicated. As one of the die hards, I want to thank you for your time and effort in bring me a closer look into the team. In an area where the Isles are low man on the pole, you brought us better coverage then any team in the area. Your work was much appreciated and I wish you the best of luck professionally and personally.
-
This is the worst. How hard can it be. There is still time to change your mind. How can you abandon us like this. Suck it up and keep up the great work. This is the best thing on the Internet. Why? What’s next. Why didn’t you give us a chance, with a contest to see if somebody here can take over for the time being. Get your head right maybe call niños shrink and work out your issues. I’m going to make believe this isn’t happening. Just when the team is showing some promise. Scale it down if you have to but don’t leave us. Is this because of Garth. F him your our guy..
-
Chris,
Thank you for providing an unbelievable service for the last three years. I have turned to this blog for all of the inside scoop and it will be greatly missed. Best of luck with your future endeavors. Off to Lighthouse Hockey as my new primary isles blog!Could you maybe make a list of your have isles blogs on the replies here so we can peruse some other great blogs?
Best regards,
Justin -
CB,
This blog has taught me to love to read. I’ve never clicked on a website (including porn) more than Point Blank. I’ve never felt the itch to look forward to a new article like I did with Point Blank. I hope this site serves as a model to other young writers what can be done when your curtious, professional and realistic. You’ve captivated a fanbase for the 26th most watched sport in America with more website hits then a Jenna Jamison photo gallery. You’ve help build popularity with guys like Brian Compton and Craig Button. This website has been a blessing for Isles fans. I wish you health, happiness and other great things along ur journey. Take care CB.
-The New Isles GM (08-11)
-
Chris,
Thanks for all your hard work however it will be harder to get any information about the Islanders. This is a sad day in Islander Country today
Best of luck to you & can’t blame you since the Isles took away your access last year.
-
Thank You Chris
-
But why??? I realize, we all realize, this is a business. But your reputation is well documented, and the support you had in the writers community speaks volumes about what your peers think of you and this blog.
With all the nonsense we have dealt with as Islander fans in the last almost 20 years, your scribes was a beacon of light for us.
Thank you Chris, you will be missed more than you know. If I see you in Panera in RVC, coffee is on me sir.
-
Gonna Miss you there Botts, Good Luck in the future, Im sure you will have much success.
-
Chris,
Thank you for putting your heart into this blog. Us Islander fans really haven’t had much to cheer about over the last few years. However, you were able to turn all the negatives into positive with all the great work on our rebuilding efforts and to not lose faith on where our team is heading.
Best of luck to you in the future. Most importantly – Let’s go Islanders!
-
Thank you!
-
CB…my Uncle and I will miss your work.
-From Central NY…where, yes, Islanders fans do exist…thanks to CB…and 4 cups during my Uncles youth…which basically resulted in him turning his little nephew into an 80′s front-runner
Go Isles, Steelers, Sixers! and obviously the Yankees.
-
Don’t leave us, CB. You’re our only hope!
-
CB,
I wish you all the best in whatever you will be doing.
We all love PB – it’s the first site I check in the morning and the last one I check at night. It always gives me something to look forward to and won’t be the same without your unique insight and dedication.
Thanks so much and very sorry to see you go.
-
CB, you just can’t take a heroin addict off heroin. You have to break us in a little.
-
Chris,
Thanks for providing the fans with the best Islanders coverage around. Best of luck!
-
Hard Work! Pays Off!
All the Best to the Botta Family!
Plant a seed watch it grow, NEXT! -
Wish you all the best, Chris. You were the voice of reason / Greek Chorus for this terminally dysfunctional franchise and its nerve-jangled supporters. I admire your work ethic and ability to keep this site vital under duress and adversity. Your professionalism and perseverence should serve as an example to the gritty young players tasked with returning the franchise to the promised land.
-
Wow! I’m on this site constantly awaiting news and updates. I hope it continues.
Be well, Chris. Your candor and commitment won’t soon be forgotten. -
CB, thanks for all your work, there will be a void this Islanders season. Though there were not many wins those years, Jaffe on TV and your insight helped us Islanders fans through. In your absence we may just have something to focus on this year, a winning team. Good luck and thanks again.
-
CB,I hate to see you go but it what is. You gave of three great years of coverage when no one esle would. Even after they took your press cred’s away the news you gave us was 1 St class all the way. Like another post said you said your leavimg full time, does that mean from time to time you’ll pop in, I like the rest sure do hope so.
Again thank you for all your work and great reads I enjoyed it greatly. -
Chris,
You are a true professional and class act. You kept many of us engaged and loyal to the team while we were fed up with Wang and Snow’s comedy act. You still persevered when the front office “banned” you which in my eyes I will never forgive as it demonstrates how clueless and out of touch they really are. I wish you nothing but the best and thank you for getting us through what I hope are the darkest day of this once proud franchise. I only pray that Wang and his puppet Snow have the sense to make you an offer you can’t refuse before you sign on to cover another team. Thank you and good luck in the future ! -
Wow, 1st the referendum fails, the team has sucked for years, and now CB leaves. These are all signs to me saying, “Quebec Here We Come” in 4 years.
-
Sorry really sorry to see you go Chris, you’ve been the TRUTH BLOG for Islander fans…but heck I can understand…I can’t see the sense of Tattoo Lou’s…So happy we’ve given up our season tickets…what’s next dancers on poles.
-
Chris ,thank you for all that you have done.May God bless you and your family with health, wealth and long life.
-
I doubt I can say anything that hasn’t already been said, Chris, but nevertheless want to thank you for sharing your information and insight with us “die-hards” for the last three years. Your participation here will be sorely missed by many. I wish you and your family the best of health and good fortune in all of your future endeavors.
-
Chris, thank you for all your hard work and dedication. You brought Islanders fans the much needed coverage that had been forever lacking. Best of luck with all your future endeavors. I only hope that we’ll see you take part in IPB in some shape in the future. Thanks for all you’ve done.
-
There goes islanders coverage as we know it…Good Luck Chris-sorry to see you go
-
Thanks for the hard work.
-
Dang, bigger disappointment that Christian Erhoff. Best of luck
-
Thanks, Chris. Sorry to see you leave. If the SNY staff can do half as good as you, I’ll keep tuning in. Best to you and the family.
-
Chris, my fanatical cousin up in NY does not have a computer (believe it or not!). I mail him weekly stories/articles about our beloved Islanders – 90% of those are courtesy of your work at PointBlank. I can’t thank you enough for all your input and feedback. Best of luck to you in the future and, again, THANK YOU!
-
Never forget the day i was sitting in front of the computer and was very bored, on a whim just googled islanders chat/blog and this site came up,been obsessed ever since..thanks chris…feel like someone just died and im at a funeral…well top notch coverage of isles just did iguess
-
SIGH!! just checked the site again….hoping I was just having a nightmare…
-
I love the fact that you don’t make a separate post to announce your goodbye, you simply put it at the tail end of a long article. A true display of your excellent journalism and exemplary character. You are a true gentleman.
-
Thanks Chris, Hope to see or read some of your work in the future.
-
I believe the Great Darth Vader put it best when he said, “NOOOOO!”
Good luck, CB. Your coverage will be missed, but also some of the clever handles I’ve seen on this site (Oye Comeau Va stands out). Hopefully I’ll see all of you around on other Isles’ boards. I guess we can all pick one to crash.
-
Hey CB,
Great stuff over the years, I hope you will be able to keep it going. The best coverage provided to any team by far. We are lucky to have you. Good luck in future projects. My regards to you and your family.
Will
-
Very sorry to hear this news, CB. You were the best out there, no doubt about it.
If anyone would like to check out a new source for everything NHL and New York Islanders, ProudtoPuck.com launches today. In the Islanders article, there is a tribute to Chris Botta for all his great work.
Best of luck, Chris
-
Chris,
As someone who grew up with the Islanders during the cup years, your notice that you are leaving, is equal to watching them lose the cup to the Oilers. You have been a class act and your insight and objectivity on our beloved team has been priceless. All the best to you and your family. May all your dreams come true for you and yours.
-
Say it ain’t so!!! You are the best in the business and this is my favorite site by far. And this is coming from a hockey crazed Canuck in Norhern Ontario. Hopefully we can diligently follow your work with SNY. Thank you for your tireless efforts and professionalism. Good luck in your new career chapter and please keep us informed.
-
speechless
-
thank you for all your coverage of the isles. good luck to you and your family.
-
WHY are you leaving?? You always tell it like it is when it comes to the Isles! Where are us fans going to get our news?? Good luck in whatever you do.
-
This just does not make sense to me at all. Do you own the website Chris? People in internet marketing would kill for an audience they could market their products or services to on a daily basis. Granted I do not know the details of the arrangement you have with SNY nor do I know the reason’s for your decision but it seems from a reader’s perspective like myself that you have struck GOLD with Islanderspointblank.com and yet you are walking away. Well, who am I to judge…I wish you all the best in your future endeavors, I’m certain you will find success with whatever that turns into.
-
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
Part time writer, Full time therapist! This site has gotten us thru a lot of dark days! Truly the go to site for everything Isles! A huge void that will be hard to fill!
Best of Luck to you and your family in all future endeavors!! -
Fooey.
Thanks for everything Chris.
Best of luck to you. -
Sorry to see you moving on but all the best in your new endeavors. I’ve enjoyed your blog immensely over the years. Especially the TV segments and interviews. Your sit down with Zenon Konopka was one of my favorites. Asking ZK my question might have helped. Although you said my question came from my wife Donna which had both me and my wife scratching our heads LOL! Thanks again. Good luck, God Bless
-
Wow, sad day in Islanders’ history. Feels like people are giving up and forgetting about us Isles fans. Thanks for everything and good luck Chris.
-
As said in the “too many to count postings” above this has got to be one of the saddest moments, for me as an Islander fan. Chris, when Isles have been struggling for all these years you gave hope to fans, you always kept things interesting for us and reported with honesty and integrity. You will be missed. I don’t believe anybody else can bring the passion behind reporting on our beloved Isles as you can. Thank you for being a fan, you are the best Chris, Good Luck for you and your family.
-
Perhaps as a settlement/resolution with the Isles following the credential issue, there was a cash payment received and agreement not to do the site any longer? Food for thought….
-
Devestating news! I don’t know where else to turn to for in-depth and INDEPENDENT coverage. I dont trust any source funded or supported by the team because I fear they won’t be a thorough third party. This sucks.
-
I understand, you have a family. From a selfish standpoint:
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!We are now back to pre-PB coverage of the team.

yeah…i’m with my fellow isles fans here. i keep checking back hoping something might change, but i’m afraid this is final.
the more i read everyone’s comments the more i identify with their feelings of sadness. i know i check the site so often, i just didn’t fully realize how i depended on it to take me away from my other stresses. funny, when you think of how being isles fan provides it’s own amount of stress as well, but this site is like a lifeline to me that now feels cut off….
-
WHAT! Was it the new 3rd jersey? Seriously, this site has been the best way for out of state Isles fans to stay connected. Thanks for all of your great work and best of luck in whatever you do.
-
good luck cb
wish u the best -
Thank you and good luck. I look forward to reading and seeing your work elsewhere and hopefully here from time to time.
We can all learn from the way you handled the adversity the Isles threw your way last season.
Can we honor you at Social sometime?
-
What the hell happened? Why such short notice? How does this happen? Wang and Snow need to get this resolved. CB, the fans need you. It’s going to be horrible without you. Shame on Snow and Wang. The best of luck to you and your family. You’ll be missed!
-
Thanks CB for everything. The beginning of the end of the Islanders is here. Quebec here we come.
-
Chris you will be missed. Granted after you were sandbagged by Snow the coverage wasn’t as good and combine that with the garbage we got from Strang very difficult for the Islanders fans. At least you gave it your best and was looking forward for a second there of having both Staple and CB reporting and thinking we would have good coverage now. I guess our hopes rest on Staple now.

On NHL.COM TSNs McKenzie reporting:
According to reports, the Islanders are nearing a deal with young forward John Tavares, while the Sabres are close to signing young Tyler Myers. TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported both deals as close to completion and said each is in the six-year range with a average annual salary of $5.5 million.EXCELLENT!!

Chris, I’ve enjoyed your INDEPEDENT coverage for 3 years. This site has been a constant part of my daily routine. I’ve only glanced at SnoozeDay in the last 3 years if someone on the train left it behind on my morning commute. Best of luck to you and your family in the future. You’ll be deeply missed. Thank you for your dedicated work.
-
The Isles may move away, change their name & I might not root for them, but I will ALWAYS be a Chris Botta fan, good luck.

On a day when we hear JT is committing to the Islanders (we hope) and the Isles Rooks look as good as advertized (we also hope is true), all comments are about you leaving. Message sent. To echo the sentiment of my fellow Islander fans, your site is the ONLY beacon of information about our team. Honest, direct and insightful. For a team starving for media attention, the loss of this blog is unbearable. Where wil we turn for our daily dose of Islanders. This fan is truely saddened today.
-
As a long time Isles fan who came to this site more than once a day to get my Isles fix this site will be missed. Thank you for your independent, professional insights into the team we love.
All the best

This is very surprising. First off, i wish you nothing but the best and hope all goes well in future endeavors.
That being said, this seems kind of odd and abrupt. There was no mention about it prior, and your goodbye was mentioned as a side note on the day’s topics. The “time to do other things” comment is strange too. It just doesn’t seem like this was a decision that was made over time. It’s not for me to question anything, i’m just talking in terms of the dedicated fans who always used this website for years, which is the only site the true Isles fans can turn to for 100% coverage. We as fans, have been abused by the media plenty, and now our only legitimate Islanders website is either gone or changed for the worse.
I hope this wasn’t done to placate the Islanders and hoping they give you back your credentials, or if another publication or employer gave you an ultimatum to stop this website. If that is the case, it’s very disappointing and doesn’t seem to be your style.
Either way, it is your decision and nobody should really question it. It just seemed to occur out of the blue, and in a strange way.
I wish you the best of luck once again. Thank you for being the best Islanders reporter and journalist we had in years. -
You kept us connected to the team, when they didn’t seem to care about their fan base. We can’t thank you enough!
Good luck in your new life.
-
How can the leader of islanders group therapy be leaving. Let suicide watch begin…………thank you for everything and good luck !
-
Good riddance. Maybe now we can get an Isles writer who has clue!
-
I wonder how passionately I will continue to follow this Isles without the coverage of this blog. This provided a one stop shop for everything I needed to know.
Thanks for everything Chris.
-
Chris,
Thank you for all you did for us fans and the NYI. I know that whatever you decide to do you will always be an Islander at heart. I will miss you and wish all the best to you and your family.
Thank you -
Chris,
Thank you and best of luck in the future.
If SNY is smart, they will take this on and find new writers to take over for you.
Note I did not say replace, no one could.
-
Thanks Chris, for your dedication to the Islanders and their fans.
Guess all those questions about the “what I’ll miss the most about covering the Islanders” quote from a few weeks ago weren’t so crazy afterall!
Good Luck and best to you and your family always.
