SNY.TV – KEVIN WEEKES ON NYI GOALTENDING
Insight into the team’s three-goalie rotation

by Chris Botta on October 31st, 2011 at 5:57 pm

In an interview recorded last week with Chris, HNIC’s Kevin Weekes reviews the play of Montoya and Nabokov, explains what should be expected of DiPietro and lends advice to the Islanders’ goaltending prospects based on his time sharing the net with Brodeur and Lundqvist.

Insight into the team’s three-goalie rotation

So what this video really means is we have to trade Nabokov. Forget about insurance, we have 3 goalies down in the Bridge. You can bring Koskinen up to ride the bench while Montoya plays most games in case DP goes down. This also gives Nilsson and Poulin more minutes in Bridgeport to hone their craft. Eventually, this has to stop. We have to call a spade a spade and move on from certain distractions. The 3 goalie rotation is one of them. Why am I the only person to comment on this video?

Dunno, but you hit it on the head IMO. Agree completely

Really? Name one team that would trade a top 6 F or a top 4 Dman for a 38 year old goalie who has played 3 games in the past year!
This is almost as funny as the guys who want to “package” our underachievers like Bailey and Comeau with Eaton and a #2 for an impact Dman!
Bottom line is you could place the entire roster on waivers and over 1/2 of them would go unclaimed!

  3. avatar Jisles says:

Agree with #1. trade Nabby, parlay into top 6 forward(prefer 2nd line center)or top 4 dman. You could get that back for Nabby. He played well in the 3 games this year and has plenty of playoff and nhl experience that a playoff team with goalie issues would want.

  4. avatar Bob E. says:

the fact that Montoya has been sitting is ridicolous. Team plays better in front of im as well. By sitting him you asking him to start all over again. How can you get into a rhythm. I said before season started. The DP saga is one of the things holding us back. As long as we keep with that drama we going to keep drafting top 5 picks.

    • avatar CM says:

Agree. Keep DP in the press box. He is use to it there. Isles need to stop giving DP favors. He has had his chances. Who cares if he’s been unlucky…too bad. They need to get his contract of thier heads. For instance if DP had one year left would managment be playing him? Doubt it.

In response to Hishutzi Skorz. How many teams do you think would have given up more for Rolloson? Was he not 41 yrs old and got the Tampa within 1 game of the finals!!? I think alot of teams saw this and know you need experience and a veteran goalie to make a run. there are plenty of teams out there I am sure who are not fully confident in the net situation. Nabby can def bring back a player of solid calber. Garth sold way low on rolloson to get only Wishart. I hoped he learns from it and uses rolloson as the example.

    • avatar Hishutzi Skorz says:

So teams were going to offer him more and Snow said, “No thanks, I’ll take Wishart”?

At this time you can’t make a comparison of the two. Roloson had played (well) for 1/2 a season, and Nabokov has played Three Games, the last of which he left under very mysterious circumstances.

And even if you could make an equal comparison at this time, there is a wide gap between Ty Wishart and a top 6F or top 4D!

You’re expecting an awful lot for a question mark with a Stanley Cup record of 40-39, most of which came in his prime.

  6. avatar Dan C. says:

Why is there a rush to trade Nabokov? Are the Islanders ever going to even try to have a winning season? Nabokov and Montoya have been solid. There is zero reason to go away from those two as the goaltending tandem, barring injury. If (or is it when?) the Isles fall out of the playoff race, then trade Nabokov to the Red Wings or who ever else might need him at that point in the season.

DP should be in Bridgeport, working on his game, as he’s played in about 30 NHL contests since early 2008 and has looked terrible in most of them.

  7. avatar mark from massapequa says:

the only tradeable players are nabby, montoya and pa based off contracts and recent playing. neither one will net you too much. other options for trade are picks and prospects. we would have to give up all three (player, picks and prospects) for a decent dman and or forward. it isnt going to happen.

  8. avatar JKP in Halifax says:

Can we make it so the videos work on my iPad again?

  9. avatar isleopine says:

Right on Dan C, agree with everything you said. DP is too brittle to be reliable and the team that plays in front of him knows it. Given his stats over the games that he has played in recently, he is nothing if not a legitimate AHL netminder (outside of his contract ofcourse). The goalie soap opera should be put on hiatus for now. Play Cubano with Nab backing up.

  10. avatar upstateIsles says:

comeau’s trade bait. I know his contracts not the most condusive, but Boston would cough up a lot for him based on the report we got from CB and the Bruins top scout last season “coach and I concur, he can play on our team anyday”..well how’s today, November 1, 2011 sound?…not really sure who or what they could offer us back…probably not worth it, lets let Blake get a rhyme and reason to his game before I get hasty I suppose.

  11. avatar Paul Undersinger says:

I’d also like to see the movies on my iPad like we used to. SNY must have switched to Flash based movies. Come on guys!
