BRUINS A LOT, ISLANDERS 0
11-of-13 Lost and the Hole is Dug Deeper

by Kevin Schultz on November 19th, 2011 at 9:40 pm

I’ve got a lot of thoughts on this one and it’s going to take a bit for me to put them all together and polish the post up. I’ll start another post when the editing process is complete. In the meantime, here’s Capuano’s post-game.

what game…..Capuano & Snow need to be fired!!!

  2. avatar Rob h says:

Time to make a dramatic change is now!

  3. avatar Eric Gelgand says:

    WTF!

  4. avatar Eric says:

    they suck so bad!

  5. avatar Real Hockey Fan says:

.. Wow Does this organization even care? SERIOUSLY?

.. Its time fot the fans to start demanding what the F(*K is going on? Seriously whats going on?

.. DP is not a NHL goalie at this point (Im not a DP “hater” but he was bad and just seems to put the whole team in a hole)

.. 4 a team with younger guys you think the “effort” would be better, they had no legs in the game and no hits – nothing. Martin threw a couple checks and 1 Dman (i forgot) but that was it, nothing – There is alot of dead weight on this roster and it needs some size/toughness on the roster, NOW!!!!!!!

.. I know its the stanley cup champs, but 6-0 on home ice? – ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, Garth – get your ass in front of the camera and tell us what the f)(k is going on around here!

    .. ENUFF!!!

  6. SOFTEST effing team in the league. I’m psychotic for going to this game. The Bruins are who they are – tough as nails, and we field the biggest pansy lineup.

DP is just an idiot. Glad he’s healthy, good for him, but he’s a useless goalie, he has very little skill and even less brains.

Zero heart on this team…management is stubborn and disgustingly arrogant for putting the fans and the 2 players who care (JT, Martin) through this.

  7. avatar drive45 says:

    Goodbye Cappy
    Goodbye Bailey
    Goodbye Comeau
Goodbye DP (not that we have any other healthy NHL goalies)
Hello Okposo – you better wake the F… up guy.
Goodbye old men (who are all younger than me…sad) and bring up kids from the Bridge.

If this doesn’t happen then goodby Snow too.

  8. avatar crazy j says:

4th shutout already? man, this team stinks.

  9. avatar Brian G says:

when will the season ticket holders get their refunds from Wang?

  10. avatar Isles says:

What a disgrace. Poulin is are best chance to win. No doubt!!!

  11. avatar Brian G says:

Capuano should be fired right away….then Snow…no more excuses, the team has been healthy this season….can’t wait to hear the spin doctoring

  12. avatar Joey says:

Come on, if you get rid of DP who are you guys going to blame next when they keep on losing…I mean you already ran Yashin out of town…here is an idea, maybe if you people WOULD STOP BUYING TICKETS AND GOING TO WATCH THEM then maybe the owner might spend some money and put a real team on the ice…I mean seriously, you could see that this was not an NHL caliber team from the first week of the season, they barely average 2 goals a game (which is the main reason they keep losing, not the goaltending)and the bottom line is, come 2015 they will be playing in either Queens or Brooklyn.

    • avatar islesrock73 says:

We ran Yashin out of town? You are joking correct? Yashin was a stiff. I do agree about not spending another penny on this joke of an organization.

    • avatar Steve C says:

Playing in Brooklyn or Queens still means the Isles will be playing on geographical Long Island past 2015. Perhaps the Isles were hinting at that possibility when they said on November 16, 2011, “With our white and our blue jerseys we look back at our history, and with the black jerseys, we’re looking forward.”

    • avatar Isles4cups says:

I think they might be in Quebec?

      • avatar Isle Insider says:

Move the team to a new Building and get the same RESULTS!
The Building will not make the team better,it will not make SNOW smarter or for that matter make a fans base happy with their new team.
A loser is a loser NO MATTER WHERE THEY ARE!

  13. avatar jimbones says:

To say it was a disappointment would not do it justice. I can’t begin to tell you how embarrassing it was. Think about it, players come and go, coaches change, the only thing that is constant is Wang and Snow. I believe it is time for Charles to step back and hire a GM that knows what they are doing and leave the team to them to manage.

  14. avatar DRIVE45 says:

Wang is the owner, Snow is the GM and Cappy is the coach. Until these three are replaced, we will continue to lose. What a disgraceful performance. Call up Haley, Gillies and a few youngsters and say good-bye to Rawlston and Pandawlfo to start.

    • avatar Erika says:

You are right on Drive 45! I know Wang has developed a man crush on his team, BUT, he simply does not have a clue on how a professional hockey team is run. He continually just hires people that would not have a job with any other organization in hockey. Gets rid of all those with knowledge that garner respect throughout the league.
All this CAN change, but sadly, our owner is way to stubborn and loyal to his “YES” men to actually help this team. Garth has shown he can be shrewd with picking up players, and that is good. But as a G.M., he should be held accountable for not only doing nothing to improve this team, but for making it regress. Cappy? does he even have a system? If so, no one, including the players know what it is! I have been watching Islander Hockey since 1973, and I have never seen them ice a more listless, over matched, soft team. It almost feels like they are not playing well because they want to be traded. Sadly, I don’t think this team employs advisers that help them from making ludicrous decisions from the ice to the front office finances. This team is seriously misguided, and the silent treatment from above is getting way old. I am tired of being laughed at! Is Mr. Wang just plain delusional? I don’t know, but he should consider advice from people who actually love and care about this team, instead of picking up “yes” men along the way! It is never to late..but something at the top needs to change…VERY SOON.

  15. avatar BringBackNyles says:

    D P!

  16. avatar Brian G says:

This season is over earlier then last season, what a joke Wang & Snow are = have fun with an empty coliseum the rest of the year you idiots….maybe Botta can write an article by monday: a state of the union of the islanders up to this point….

  17. avatar nightbite21 says:

DVR’ed… Watching Presidents Cup and just checked score in hopes of watching a good game later. I chose wisely for once in my life.

  18. avatar Ted says:

The Isles should build a nest at home to hold all those eggs they have been laying. Shutout again at home!, and on 18′s big night, Disgraceful! That and surrendering 6 goals. DP for the 2nd game in a row clears the puck up the middle right onto an opponents stick, except this time they score. The Isles just keep inventing new ways to suck. Back to reality everyone. We are still a lottery team, and we will not be making the playoffs….

  19. avatar Brian G says:

Streit was a -5 tonight good job…this roster is Snow’s fault, plain & simple…SNOW MUST GO..

  20. avatar ericdixon says:

Islanders honored one of their all-time greats, and then did everything to disgrace the accomplishments of the 1970s teams except leave yellow puddles on the ice.

This was the type of performance (except for the “fourth” line) that got other coaches fired (e.g., Butch Goring).

  21. avatar NoManIsAnIslander says:

When the starting goaltender, the head coach, and the general manager hold positions for this Team, positions they would NOT hold with ANY OTHER TEAM in the League, you know everything you’ll ever need to know about the current direction and future of the Franchise under Chuck Wang.

Wang must go! Preferably, to jail.

  22. avatar islesrock73 says:

Wow, how bad was that? I guess they had a let down after their one game winning streak.

Seriously, Gary Bettman needs to have a sit down with Wang and educate him on running a professional sports franchise. What is occurring to our beloved team is an absolute disgrace. The NHL needs to intervene immediately. Wang is clueless, as is Snow.

Wang, your either in or out. If you are not going to sell, man up, and put a professional product on the ice.

Hire and NHL GM and coach for starters.

YOU ARE EMBARRASSING YOURSELF AND THE FRANCHISE!!!!!!

  23. avatar Brian G says:

    bring back Kumar!

    • avatar Tedge77 says:

Brian G line of the night

    • avatar islesrock73 says:

You know what’s nuts? Kumar’s 12-year sentence started in 2006, the same year DP’s 15 year sentence started for the Islanders. Kumar will be out of jail and the Islanders will still have the DP contract on their books in some form.

  24. avatar Jim Clark says:

Capuano has hit upon the winning strategery in the “fail
for Nail” campaign. Start Rickety and once he gives us enough goals to make it impossible for one one-gun offense (JT) to comeback, put in a young goalie to
    Get some experience.

    • avatar LIT says:

Jim.. Come on. I know you know better.. Cappy has ZERO control on who starts or who plays. He has hinted multiple times and again in this interview “I know what I would do” what’s that mean??? you are the coach! He is a puppet so don’t blame Cappy..

      • avatar stopthepain says:

That’s an excellent catch LIT, and what’s even crazier is that NO JOURNALIST there asked the obvious followup – “Cappy, WHAT would you do?” Every aspect of this organization with the exception of a handful of players is bush league.

  25. avatar ericdixon says:

It is time that management started managing the Islanders with an eye towards developing a winning team, instead of primarily being concerned with justifying past decisions (e.g., DP)

I’ve defended DP in the past, but tonight’s giveaway clear up the middle was a rookie mistake. For a 30-year-old veteran to do this shows an emotional immaturity, a lack of adult professional judgment. This is the same guy who, concussion history notwithstanding, decided to fight Brent Johnson last year and lead with his face. DP will just not grow up. It’s Ricky being Ricky. But unlike Rickey Henderson, our Ricky is and will not be a Hall of Famer. It’s time to recognize the long contract was a mistake and buy him out (save $3 million per year, $1.5 million gets deferred).

  26. avatar Brian G says:

Capuano should be fired, I don’t care what he says at post game press conferences

  27. avatar Merrick says:

The one constant in all this garbage is Charles Wang. It starts with Wang and it ends with Wang. I’ve said before that we have “battered fan syndrome.” We put up with crap that no fans should put up with on the basis of promises and an occasional good deed that offers a glimmer of hope of comptenecy. But in reality, it’s never coming under this owner.

  28. avatar we need steve webb says:

Cappy had fire in his eye in his post game interview.
Lets face it, Cappy lost his locker room. Players do not respond to him. It’s not Cappy’s fault that Wang doesnt want to hire established GM/coach.
More Bruins fans than isles fans at the game.
Snow must go. Wang must sell and have the team moved to another state. This is the only cure. I have no faith in wang any more.

    Snow is a wuss.

  29. avatar fmcisles says:

Didn’t watch. Watched “Horrible Bosses” instead. With Wang and Snow we have our own horrible bosses. Have you seen our upcoming schedule? We may not win another game in 2011!

  30. avatar Tony F. says:

what a joke, sell the team and move it to Cananda. Laughingstock of the NHL again. Woo!

  31. avatar George S says:

    “Calgon take me away!!….”

  32. avatar moonshine says:

islanders officially playing out the string.
the best vs the worst. they knew they were going to lose this game way before it ever started.
i used to think the islanders could find a real coach if they tried. now i’m not sure anybody would come here.
dp was brutal on that second goal, starting with the penalty he caused, and it’s not like he made any big saves to make up for it.
i’m embarrassed even to comment on this.

  33. avatar Nick L says:

People need to stop the “Ricky needs to go” line. He isn’t going anywhere. Same with Snow. We’re stuck with them.

  34. avatar Steve says:

The time has come to extend DiPietro another 10 years. 10 more years! 10 more years!

    Other great ideas:

-Hire a GM with no hockey operations or business experience
-Hire a coach with no NHL coaching experience
-Take the above-mentioned actions and then try to woo talented hockey players to the Island and then feign shock when they say no and blame it on a building that is just as bad as Joe Louis Arena.

  35. avatar Tedge77 says:

They totally let all the heart of this team go by either free agency or demotion to AHL. They are totally hopeless. The rebuild just took two huge steps back. Im glad we have a lot of prospects. It doesnt mean crap right now.

  36. avatar Candyman says:

We all know Snow/Wang must go, but it’s not going to happen. Ken Deyneko hit it on the nail in the post game. The Isles worked well last year with some tough guys like Konopka/Haley in the lineup with the rest of the team filled with only young guys. Why on earth Snow would get rid of the toughness and add six 35+ vets is insane. Bring the kids up and give them a chance.

Also, DP is just a selfish goalie. That horrible turnover is typical of him – wanting the glory of the clear versus the smart play. This guy just doesn’t get it. At least he used to be able to stop the puck, but now he can’t even do that anymore.

    Bring up Poulin.

  37. avatar Tedge77 says:

Could be worse we could be Columbus…..

  38. avatar GeneF says:

Cappy will be fired after we lose the next 2 to Pitt and Flyers.

  39. avatar we need steve webb says:

Brian Leetch said on Hockey night live that the Isles have no foundation. Nothing to fall back on like the Rangers do. The rags play aggressive, block shots etc..
The isles have no identity. They play the wrong offensive/defensive strategy. Cappy continues to play open hockey with slow foot Dmen. A pro coach should realize this by now. For this reason Cappy must go.
On second thought, Cappy must stay. Snow will only hire another AHL coach so there’s no point to get rid of Cappy.

  40. avatar Blizz says:

I refuse to spend another dime on this team until they ice an NHL caliber team. DP is useless. I feel for JT and Martin who seem to be the only two players who have any heart. ENough of the washed up vets who are supposed to bring experience to the team. Make a trade make some call ups do something GARTH.

  41. avatar BringBackNyles says:

Maybe Sparky the Dragon can coach.

  42. avatar Real Hockey Fan says:

..Thats a good point Tedge77, i was just thinking the same thing

..The Isles played tough and with heart/balls the second half of the year last season – they had guys like Haley, Konopka, Gillies in the lineup/roster and the team responded with a very good effort the 2nd half of the year and they are all gone

.. Why? why would u get rid of a team with some guts and balls?

.. Marty Reasoner? LOL Hes the invisble man and doesnt play with 1/100 of the balls of Konopka or doesnt hit, win faceoffs or do the things that Konopka does — Ooo btw for those of you in the offseason who said Reaser was a ‘batter player” well, Konopka has has more points than Reasoner as well! (and we know the PIM’s and energy)

.. What a joke, this team is soft as overcooked spaghetti, limp wristed wusses who dont seem to care, enough!

  43. avatar Brian G says:

what is the point of waiting, fire Capuano now, try to stop the bleeding

  44. avatar Ice Girl Dad says:

Ill-prepared, no fire, no physicallity,no leadership, no identity,no accountability,, no goaltending!
they were running around all night, very embarrassing, team should be ashamed of itself as it’s fanbase continues to support this franchise. I don’t blame Cappy ….yet!!! Players need to look in the mirror!

  45. avatar Joe G. says:

Snow isnt going anywhere, hes Wangs puppet. This by far is the worst Owner, GM and coach trio in all of sports. STOP GOING TO GAMES!!

  46. avatar WM says:

Born in ’67, fan since ’72. Have tix for 12/10 game vs. Pittsburgh. That will be my last game at the Coliseum. I’m done.

    • avatar we need steve webb says:

Wang thinks we were all born yesterday.

They continue to play with our emotions. I’d kick him in the forehead if i run into him. lol

  47. avatar NYIhockey16 says:

Kansas City Wranglers, anyone? Has a bit of a ring to it, don’t you think? The logo could be a cowboy hat atop crossed hockey sticks with a lasso around them. Seriously, people. We are powerless as mere supporters against this state-run organization. The emperor and his sidekick are the problems, but an owner won’t fire himself, nor his right-hand man.

  48. avatar frankgeno says:

I was 5 years old in 1975 and that is my earliest memory of being an Isles fan. After this start I am not sure if I have the energy to continue. I am as die hard as they come but this could be the straw. Last year there were injuries and I felt good about this team all summer. Now, I realize I was wrong.

Here’s what I don’t understand. It doesn’t take size or skill to move your feet. This team consistently locks their legs on the rush. They carry the puck over the line and coast. There is no “will over skill”.

My “loyal fan card” may be burned tonight. T

    • avatar Danfromouteast says:

Team played better with all the injuries like they had some thing to fight for. Seems as though they know they’re skating doomed from the start they don’t believe in themselves or eachother.

  49. avatar Strummer's Army says:

NO ONE CAN BLAME EITHER ISLES GOALIE.

Ugly truth is this team was done before the season started because Garth Snow failed to assemble a team that can compete. Wimps, no heart, no talent on D.

I demand SNow do something but he doesn’t have to because he knows Wang won’t fire him for some reason just like Milbury. It has to be about RESULTS and these are not the results that allows you to keep your job.

This is the earliest the Isles were done and we were told that this would be their best year in a long time. I knew the roster had tons of holes but I thought they’d be better then this. There are guys that have no business being in NHL like Pandalfo, Roloston, Eaton, Mottau, and PA. Then there are guys with zero heart like Comeau and Jurcina.

    Streit played terrible tonight.

What kind of team takes guys like Staois and Roloston and gives them big minutes and an A?

Only good thing I saw was Cappy pairing hamonic and Streit FINALLY.

Ya know when there is a hit generated from an Isle its Martin, Hamonic, or Nino.

    • avatar Onesinceforty says:

Fan since 72′ also. Played on their youth all star traveling teams in the 70′s. I could not have been a bigger fan my whole life. Was at the parade at Eisenhower Park in 75. I TVo’d the Panthers game last night. At least they care from their owner down. I can’t take much more of this garbage. Oh, and I’m not buying one of those ugly black pajama tops. FU Garth.
Careful Kevin if you don’t moderate this. I don’t want you “becoming the story”!

  50. avatar Al's Beef says:

Fan since 1972. Don’t care anymore

    • avatar CM says:

      Fan since 1978. Me too.

      • avatar rick says:

You guys say you don’t care but you’re over 40 (maybe 50-60) and talking about the game on a message board? grow up and stop the drama. You just want to complain and have someone listen. You do care, that is why you are posting about it.

Our defense sucks, dipi was 100% responsible for the giveaway goal, but not the other 2(maybe 50% for those), it would have been nice if he did save them). If your team allows 14 shots on goal and you get 2 through the FULL 1st period, you cannot blame the goalie, he obviously had NO help. Lets say he didn’t let up that giveaway goal or the other 2. WE STILL WOULD HAVE LOST, WE DIDNT SCORE A SINGLE GOAL!!!!!!! Stop looking for a scapegoat, its the WHOLE TEAMs fault. This is a TEAM sport.

We need to bring up either Gillies or Haley and trade Mottau and a few more d-guys, maybe the rest of the team will get a kick in the ass when they see these guys kick some ass.

Just like all the people saying they are done with this team, i will still be watching and still a fan, but i will NOT be looking for someone to hear me complain.

  51. avatar Isle Fan in Rye NY says:

What has changed since last year? Old guys added…
Reasoner, Rolston, Staios, Pandolfo, and throw in Mottau and Eaton coming off injuries… 6 old guys… non – NHLers… Gone.. Konopka, Gillies, Haley, Wishart, etc…

    • avatar John says:

      That’s so striking…

I really liked Z, Gillies, Ty, and Haley last year.

the the guys who are in are all Snow/Weight transactions

  52. avatar TJ Bova says:

Didnt watch the game tonight…but reading the box score I wanna know one thing. Why was Anders Nilsson backing up DP tonight and Montoya sitting in the press box? That should be a fate for the likes of Comeau, Bailey, KO and Eaton

  53. avatar frankgeno says:

How is it that Edmonton’s young stars can be great in one year and ours take 3 and counting????

    • avatar isles316 says:

Because they actually have NHL coaches and a director of player development who knows what the F they are doing.

    • avatar NYIhockey16 says:

Edmonton’s young stars are actual stars who are fulfilling their potential, while the Isles’ young players are simply overrated. Not their fault they were highly-touted – that’s on the scouts and talent evaluators.

    • avatar Isles Fan In FLA says:

I say that all the time. And it doesn’t stop with just Edmonton. Not to bash Nino, but he was 3 picks after Seguin and look at the difference. They look like they belong in 2 different leagues. We just don’t pick winners. We like to pick 2 way players. Strome may be the first one in a long time (besides JT)

  54. avatar Steve C says:

Can Ricky get a career ending injury so the Isles could get out of his contract?

  55. avatar Snow must Go says:

Absolute torture tonight, there should be no wonder why there’s 8k on weeknights, I wantto kill myslef for buying a ticket plan..biggest bunch of pus*ies ive ever seen..no heart, no desire..Cappy would trade half the team if he could but Snow is to stubborn to admit his mistakes. Josh Bailey/Marty Reasoner..please go away

  56. avatar Ted says:

WE SUCK! WE SUCK! WE SUCK!

  57. avatar Dk says:

Could be worse, they could have been wearing those black atrocitie. Fire Snow!!!!!

  58. avatar Rich L says:

The next moron whose quote I read, stating that Bettman, should have a sit down, or meeting with Wang will definately signify to me that said postor is ignorant, Bettman is the one I saw in an interview earlier this season stating that Charles Wang is a passionate, and caring hockey owner,I almost vomited hearing that BS, Butthead,Bettman is as clueless with the handling of the league, as Wang is and his mismanaged, unintelligent, decisions with the Islanders, And in the post game “two ton” Tony Galento aka Capuano, said he wants to see some passion on this team, how about some from him, he looks like a wooden cigar store indian, even after the Isles get scored on, or for you guys who are too young, a mannequin.

  59. avatar cjcb says:

Super Soft, Boring! Awful stuff, Fire Snow! Sell the team Wong!

  60. avatar O'Neill says:

As a season ticket holder, I honestly attempt to take a level headed approach to the islanders. I do not jump off cliffs after losses and I do not start talking about the playoffs when we win a game. Having said that, this team has made absolutely no progress in five years.

I was sitting in front of a row of bruins fans and had to listen to them speak about the islanders throughout the game. The referred to the islanders as a “high school hockey team” or the equivalent of the “BU” hockey team playing the bruins. What was sad about listening to them was that I could not turn around and disagree.

The culture in the locker room is obviously piss poor and I cannot fault Capuano entirely for this problem. Mark Streit is not a real NHL captain. A legit NHL captain has the balls to get in the face of players who aren’t reaching their potential and straighten them out. This clearly does not happen in the Islanders locker room because nothing changes on the ice.

Consequently, moves need to be made. There is no more time to wait, and be positive. Teams who rebuild show progress in five years. We have little to show for our efforts. Snow needs to start being a shrewd GM and start putting some of these “blue chip” prospects in play and changing the culture of the locker room. Stop trying to make the Islanders a family and make them accountable for their play. Although I know this franchise is far from the Yankees, the mentality of “win or get out” that flows through the Yankee clubhouse is appropriate and needs to be a part of the Islanders if they want success.

  61. avatar cjcb says:

I think we as fans are asking for way to much in adding either Gilles or Haley or both. I mean with a combined salary of probably less than 1 million i wouldnt think of disrupting this fine product we suffer watching night in night out either. We are running our skill lineup and winning big games we will need down the stretch for our playoff push. This is all about winning guys, come on!

  62. avatar Rich L says:

Supporting this debacle of a team, can start you on your way to becoming a drunk, so like the political candidates shout,4 more years, etc. along with their supporters, I will shout a variation of such, 4 more beers, 4 more beers, 4 more beers.

  63. avatar pstewcity says:

Starts with Wang! coliseum curse, dont expect anything different to theres a arena deal, snow’s wangs bitch, Garht Snow the Next Mike Milbury..

  64. avatar martin says:

With each time I watch this team, I am starting to believe that there is a conspiracy theory. Wang is trying to sway fans away from the building, so when the team leaves team, he doesnt look like a true Benedict Arnold. There is no other reason I can come up with why Capuano, Snow and Dipietro are still in the organization. Tell me I am wrong!!

  65. avatar JT says:

Time to send another strong message and bring up some guys from the Bridge. If we have to waive Rolston and other to do so, so be it.

  66. avatar Isles Fan In FLA says:

I don’t know where to start. Continuous no effort which has to be mostly blamed on the coach. They also don’t seem to have a style of play that fits them (or don’t seem to have one at all) They brought in vets, but they didn’t bring in useful vets. DP is really just awful and I am not really a DP hater. In fact I liked him since when I met him a few times, he was a super nice guy. But the reality is he just can’t play effectively. It’s very hard to admit the season is done with by Thanksgiving again. And for all the optimists out there, we are not going on a 10 of 12 win streak. Have you watched this team play? Outright bad.

  67. avatar Remember when says:

Goalkeeping situation is Ridiculous. Management is clueless. Team has no identity. Team has Zero Accountability.

  68. avatar Jim says:

How’s Edmonton’s rebuild going? Oh yeah they have a real GM and coach so they are seeing progress. I really cannot believe we have to sit and watch another crappy season. When will it end?!?!?!?

  69. avatar Rich L says:

Hey Candyman, you ask why Snow allowed the “toughness” to go from this team it’s because a well known fact that Wang totally abhors fighting, and tough players, he has gotten rid of most of the fighters on this team since he has owned them,Wang may be a quiche eater, if you get my drift.

  70. avatar Charles bang says:

wondering if we reached the low water mark for this franchise yet? A lot of blame going on here, ultimately it goes back to Wang, Capuano and Snow can only work with what they’re allowed to have (which is an AHL roster). I’m the last guy to defend Wang, but remember he came in 2001 and spent money then, he offered to build a new arena and 700 foot tall light house and the TOH screwed around with him for years. Then Nassau County basically tells him they’d rather see NVMC get torn down then even RISK spending money on a major league arena/pro team. As much as it pains me, I can’t totally fault Wang for not wanting to spend a dime on this team or in this community, just sucks for the few K of us fans still left.

im a season ticket holder. Brought my dad to the game. After we donated 3 goals to start the game (2 were totally DP’s fault), you knew game was over.

Capuano can interview every time and talk about how we need to play with heart but reality is his lines and the ISLES SYSTEMS dont work. They dont work in LI and they dont work in Bridgeport.

How can Blues hirer hitchcock and 4 straight games under him.

Giving Rolston more icetime is not the answer. HE IS TERRIBLE.

  76. avatar CM says:

Don’t want to hear any player or coach interviews. Meaningless words.

    • avatar Isles Fan In FLA says:

I have to disagree. Listening to Cappy’s answer of “I don’t know what to do” tells me what I need to know, he is not an NHL coach. How about “More benchings, ship the guys out who don’t give an effort, bring up some guys who show they care, change my practice up, skating skating skating till they pass out or throw up”

  77. avatar The New Isles GM says:

Since this season is a bust, might as well let everything remain the same and “Fail for Nail”. I don’t want the 5th from the bottom. All or Nothing. Although, I’m hearing good things about this Phillip Forsberg kid. Supposed to be the next Brendan Shanahan. Minus all the suspensions….

I don’t know what is more pathetic; us fans thinking this year was going to be different or the fact that I have been reading the same exact responses on this blog game after game, year after year.

Don’t misunderstand me, I am not berating those who make the comments – hell, I am one of them. But I bet if you went into the archive of post-game commentary, you can see he same comments as you have tonight.

Wang – Savior FEH. He’s a clown, albeit a rich one.

Snow – Out of his league. Can’t blame him for taking the gig though, he’s got a family to support.

Capppy – Over his head. He is a mess, like 20 pounds of crap stuffed into a 5 pound bag. Does this guy own a MIRROR? Ever hear of the SALAD BAR? A TREADMILL??? Jeez man, have some respect for yourself drop a few dude.

Ricky D – How do you sleep at night? Not only do you continue to tear the ASS out of team morale more often than not, but you continue to take that ABSURD paycheck when you know DAMN WELL you don’t deserve it.

Yea yeah, “He’s a fighter, he won’t quit, he’s a competitor”… IF he was all of those things, he would know that it’s over. Valiant effort to fight back after the injuries, I give you that. But IT IS OVER. Have some GODDAMM RESPECT and RETIRE!

The other players, eh, they are mostly young kids trying to make a name for themselves. The LEAST YOU CAN ALL DO IS GIVE A CRAP AND PLAY HARD.

    Can ANYONE FINISH A CHECK???

    ANYONE INITIATE CONTACT???

DRILL A GUY IN THE CORNER???

PUMMEL THE CREEPS WHO RUN YOUR GOALIE???

It’s so hard to watch. And sad.

Lest anyone thought this franchise was on it’s way back, you were wrong. This once proud franchise is dead. Let them leave. Like a loved one on life support that has no hope for recovery, the Islanders are ready to have the plug pulled.

Give them their last rites and let’s put all of us out of our misery.

  81. avatar hoser14 says:

Does anyone have this “Groundhog Day” feeling? I’ve seen this disgrace too many times in the 90′s and during the Snow-Wang Reign of Error.

What happen to the team that looked like it was ready to compete the last half season? This season is already flushed down the crapper.

    Who’s to blame?

Yes Capuano has done a terrible job and will probably will be fired in a few days.

As for Snow, he thought Reasoner was a better fit than Konopka, not! He stocked his defense with too many soft, slow d-men. He dumps the done Hunter for the expensive, but equally done Rolston. Cap money not well spent.

The players themselves, too many passengers, there no excuse to mail it in. I wonder if Bailey, Comeau, Eaton, Jurcina, Mottau, Okposo, Reasoner, Roloston and yes Red Light Rickey have looked in a mirror lately? Never have so many made so much for doing so little.

But most of the blame falls on the lap of Chairman Wang, who rather lose games than money. It’s that simple boys and girls.

Want would I do if I was GM?

I’m all for firing Capuano, but I don’t want to see Weight as the next coach. I wouldn’t mind seeing Nolan back and Snow gone.

This team needs a “productive” veteran leader like Jarome Iginla in the worst way, not the unproductive Pandolfo, Reasoner, Rolston.

Get rid of one or two the soft and slow gang of Eaton, Jurcina, Mottau and Staios.

And finally this team needs to turn the page and move on (ie a hockey colonic) from The Red Light Rickey Dipietro Era. He is the worst goalie in hockey! This team’s mojo has been bad since Mad Mike traded Roberto Luongo to draft draft him because he loved Rickey personality. It’s time for Ricky to take his beer-league game and go away (hopefully to the Ranger$).

  82. avatar WALT says:

“Fail for Nail” right on course.

  83. avatar Jim says:

This team, courtesy of Mr. Wang, has built a culture of losing. Year after year the team loses but rarely is there anyone made to take the blame. Milbury was there for years even though he made one dumb move after another. Gordon got fired but they replaced him with another coach with no NHL experieince. DP got a big contract even though he had never won a playoff series. This team accepts losing, it starts from the top and trickles down.

The team loses and Snow is silent, the team loses and Wang’s biggest concern is not how to get get better but how to stay above the cap floor.

Many want Capuano or Snow fired but who cares. Cappy will be replaced by Weight another coach with no experience and Snow will be replaced with some guy who has never been a GM. So the losing will continue.

We can now see that last year’s second half was more a product of a team with nothing to lose playing loose as opposed to a team with talent.

Where are the yongs guys like DeHaan who should have been NHL ready by now? This is a hopeless franchies caught in a catch-22. If not for Wang this team would be gone, but it is Wang that maintains the culture of losing. So we will never see a winning team while he is the owner.

  84. avatar StevieL says:

After 4 years re-building that is the effort we get? I have never seen amore pathetic effort from a so-called “NHL” team. There are literally no more than 5 NHL caliber players on this roster. Snow should be fired immediately and this team should be torn down! Wang make an effort to show people that you Care! We deserve better!

  85. avatar Harold says:

Oh and in case anyone checked out the standings, we’re currently holding the #2 pick in the draft.

The LA Clippers laugh at this team.

I am at a loss for words.

  86. avatar Bill from Oceanside says:

After a 5 year absence I renewed my season tickets this year. I had high hopes for this team. I really did.
All of that feeling was dashed tonight. There are still a few players who care, but they are very few. Matt Martin played his heart out and JT played like his hair was on fire.

Lots of things need to happen here to save this season. It’s still early, folks.

Fans have to remember that the Isles need to get to the cap floor, so some of these moves will not happen. But they should.

Replace Motteau with Wishart. Wishart may not be much of an upgrade but Motteau is just awful and no better than an average AHL player. At least Wishart has youth and size. Perhaps he will blossom into something resembling an NHL player. Motteau is finished.

Matt Moulsen need to remember where he earned his contract. Not on the outside, but right in front of the net. He still has some value and should be trade bait. Perhaps part of a package to bring a real defensemen here.

Reasoner should be demoted. I heard a guy in back of me say “We gave up Konopka for this guy??? How insightful. Reasoner is not even a 4 th line player on any other NHL team. Goodbye!!Hello David Ulstrom.

Roloston and Pandolfo should be kept as spare parts, not playing big minutes. Both have seen much better days. Michael Haley should be called up and one of these two sent down. But because of the cap floor, Snow is handcuffed. A tragedy of his own making.

Shop Mark Eaton for a pick while another team desperate for defense may give you something. Anything. Anything at all.

Let’s face it. Both Bailey and Okposo are busts. First round flops. Time to move on here. Both have trade value. Hello Kyle Turris. Mr.Bailey heads to Arizona. Maybe Minnesota would take their favorite son back for something of value. Time for Garth to move one or both.

DP. I have always been a staunch DP supporter. Not many player would endure what he has gone through and made it back. But it is now abundantly clear that he just does not have the skill to be an NHL goalie any longer. His side to side explosiveness is gone and the once cocky kid has been replaced by an insecure, hesitant shadow of himself.
I really don’t know what Snow can do about DP except to keep him as a 10 game a year backup. IT’s time for Poulin.

Cut Nabokov. Trying to get something for nothing never works out. How long can we hold onto this guy just to get a mid round pick. He’s just more trouble than he’s worth. Cut bait and forget about it.

OK this one may shock everyone here but put Doug Weight in the front office. Ever since he arrived on the scene Fat Jack has not been the same coach. How would you like to have your replacement looking over your shoulder every night? I would point out the Isles record with Weight behind the bench. There can be only one.

What’s really going on with Kyle? Benched for 3 games in a row!! One is a statement. 3 is a behind the scenes nightmare. It will come out sooner or later.

And finally, come out from hiding Mr. Snow. You owe it to me and everyone else who buys a ticket to explain what the hell is going on here. Be a man and face the music. You screwed up this team big time. It’s time to
let us know what you intend to do to fix it.
This is a loyal, passionate fan base on Log Island. We deserve better.

    • avatar ericdixon says:

Hey — lay off Bailey and Okposo. These guys are 1 1/2 years removed from a season when, under Gordon, they scored 16 and 19 goals, respectively, while playing with subpar talent on their lines. They’ve regressed and lost confidence; that is on the coaching staff and shouldn’t be on guys who are 22 and 23 years old. Maybe they’re just third liners and there’s no shame in that. (BTW Bailey is now centering what is arguably the second best line on the team.) In the Cup years the third liners were Bob Bourne and Bob Nystrom. Dare to call THEM busts?! Say that to Nystrom’s face. Call me when you get out of the hospital.

On the other hand, I would’ve loved to see Ryan Strome get a nine-game tryout over seeing Marty Reasoner.

That was it for DiPietro. “[Capuano] wasn’t really pleased,” he said. “There wasn’t much that needed to be said.”

Bye Bye Cappy you just cost yourself the job and committed 2 huge sins:
    2) Never say you dont have answers for your team playing like crap again or not playing hard
    1) NEVER NEVER NEVER criticize DP (see Ted Nolan, etc) or you will be terminate shortly afterward

One more thing. I went down to claim my season ticket holder gift between periods. I have 2 seats. So the Isles rep hands me one yearbook. So I say to him “I have two seats shouldn’t I get 2 yearbooks. What about the guy that pays for the second ticket.”
The tickets are in my name but my buddy pays for the other seat, as I am sure lots of people do.

The rep looks at me like I’m crazy and tells me “No. but come back in a couple of months and we’ll give you another one.”

Just goes to show you what kind of Mickey Mouse organization this really is. I spend a few thousand dollars on tickets and they can’t spring for a yearbook for each seat?
It is just is so typical of the Islander organization. Save a dollar on a yearbook and piss off one of the few season ticket holders that they have. Unreal!!

A real GM would have acted by now but what can you expect from a backup goalie! Changes need to made. Everyone says it but Garth continues to be invisible. Guess he really must want a lottery pick. That is not going to be a problem. We have a top 3 pick locked up, no problem. At this rate, we will surpass the losing streak of last year. I feel for the fans who actually spent money to attend this game. What a way to honor Eddie Westfall. What a bunch of chumps we have on our team. 2/3 of this team needs to go! We should start with Streit. We can actually get something of value back for him.

That’s why the Isles fired Jiggs back in 94 because he called out Maloney on that HORRIBLE muller trade!!!!!!

      • avatar IslesFan says:

I don’t believe that Jiggs wee fired, as I understand it, he left because they asked him to do a voiceover for Islanders video and after he did a demo, the Isles used a different person for the voice without telling him.

However, if you are correct, we are comparing apples to oranges, that was when Maloney was GM and before Wang owned the team.

Every single one of you who claim to be done with this team are full of it. You know damned well you’ll be back. What are you going to do? Root for the Rangers? Drop hockey altogether? I don’t think so. I live all the way out here in San Diego (which means I don’t even have any fellow Isles fans to commiserate with). I’ve had Center Ice for the past 10 years, am as disgusted as any of you, but after over a quarter-century of having a passion for this team, I can’t get them out of my blood if I try. So what do we all do? Accept losing like Cubs fans? No (although they seem to have an awful lot of fun doing it!) I certainly don’t support the current regime, nor the individual players who don’t seem to care. Howevet, what I DO support are the players who do give it their all, but most importantly, that crest on the jersey. I simply refuse to let anyone ruin something I so deeply care about to the point where I’m tempted to walk away. I can’t and won’t do it. All I can do is hope and pray things will get better.

  117. avatar nightbite21 says:

Wangdoodle and Snowjob are responsible for assembling this horrow show but that doesn’t excuse the alarming lack of effort on players part. There is MAYBE a 20% chance the team will even COMPETE!!! Why on earth would anyone willingly pay money to watch these clowns at this point? This isn’t even mildly entertaining anymore. Fan appreciation and their hard earned dollars need to be earned. Aside from a handful of players this organization from top to bottom has not shown us jacks$#t for quite some time.

I actually watched majority of this on dvr AFTER finding out the results. What a fu%$in dolt. Ken Daneyko voiced the painfully obvious afterwards Garth. Aren’t you beyond embarrassed in your day to day operations and among your peers for yet another abject failure? You neutered this team you bum!

  118. avatar NYIhockey16 says:

Bottom line is you can move around the current crop of players all you want, juggle line combos, sit healthy players in the stands, etc. I don’t believe a change of address is in order to remake the franchise, but a complete change in culture.

  119. avatar MikeInNYC says:

Gillies and Haley are not the answers here. Ok fine they can fit and fight, fantastic. They can’t skate, pass or play defense though.

The other teams in the NHL win with physicality because they have a few defenseman over 6 foot 200 lbs and a few big forwards with skill instead of tavares, Martin and 10 190 pound “2 way forwards”.

    • avatar Tedge77 says:

Its not about just fighting. its a culture. When players around you play physical it becomes contagious. You should know that.

    • avatar islesrock73 says:

You are right, but it’s the only thing that can be done now. Snow is clueless, but even if the best GM came in today, he has no chips in a trade to bring in the big skilled defenseman and forwards that we all know we need. Except Snow and Wang of course.

    • avatar rick says:

Haley actually can skate, pass, play defense, and score goals. He’s by no means a star, but hes better and more physical than most of the 3rd and 4th lines.

  120. avatar Tedge77 says:

Capuano said what I have been saying about toughness and heart. I bet you they fire Capuano after his comments because he told the truth. They dont want to know the truth.

  121. avatar Isles fan says:

Putrid performance against the Cup champs. No pride, passion or desire to play 20 minutes let alone 60 minutes. This has become an all too familiar theme with the Islanders. Few want to pay the price for success which is HARD WORK! Defensive zone coverage abysmal. The Bruins were allowed to waltz in unchecked for scoring opportunities. Two many passengers on this roster. The Bridgeport shuttle may be loading up soon.

  122. avatar Islebethere4u says:

I’m sorry, but last year I thought Gordo had to go. this year I have to agree with many other posters. The vets brought in are doing nothing. The dmen are slow and tentative. No goals yet from the dmen? Really? Too many players playing under their capabilities. Some players actually seem to be regressing if thats possible. letting Konopka go and not playing Haley may have been a big mistake. You heard of the cartoon family the “Incredibles”? This tema is becoming the “Invisibles” and they are being led by Bailey, Rolston, Reasoner, Eaton, Jurcina, Motteau, Pandolfo and Okposo for these guys have truly been invisible..

Bring up Gilles…Haley…etc. Give me a break people. This team needs a lot more than those two in the lineup if they are going to be competitive. They may add some energy…granted, but they will not help win any hockey games. The Isles need some big, tough, skilled forwards and defense if they want to compete on a nightly basis in the NHL. That is my opinion on this team. Blame DP all you want…he is not the only problem with this roster. Anyone see the Oilers kick the Blackhawks tonight? Speed, skill and toughness all in one package…the same as the Bruins.

  124. avatar booten says:

I thought the Colorado loss was bad…jeeeeeez, this team is a trainwreck.

  125. avatar Anthony says:

This was an embarrassment!!!We are old, soft and slow. Although I am not a big fan of Cap. I do not blame him for this team being horrible. Look at the the team on the ice. Garth put this soft old slow team together. They have no heart,no grit,no toughness no passion.I have been saying this all yr. Caps post game comments were a hint to Garth,”WE NEED TOUGHNESS”.He could only play with what he has and what he has is garbage.Bring up some kids who want to play and show some passion.

  126. avatar okpososcores21 says:

Bottom line this was the year to do an overhall in free agency and get guys like the he panthers did to intertwine with the current group of young guys. The young inexperienced guys were relied apon way to heavily and overacheived most of the 2 or so years.
now they have fat contracts no leadership and no good veterans to help with the load. This was the year and they F’d it up big time putting us wayyy back n the rebuild procees and ultimately maybe scaring or destroying players futures. If you look at edmonton the young guys have the likes of habiboulin in net ryan smith ales hemsky and there captain forgot his name to help stabilize the young guys as well as some tough guys. Its a well mixed group. we have all young guys still in the fire that they were put in and I feel are taking there contracts and playing in the NHL for granted. No one was really there to show them.

  127. avatar okpososcores21 says:

Hey wang if you over spend to get a couple guys for a few years it will benefit you later in being able to create a winning team and attract free agents at a fair price

  128. avatar okpososcores21 says:

what would this team look like with cambell and versteeg ????

  129. avatar NYI Europe says:

You all say Long Island has a true fanbase. Really? Then where are the fans? Sitting at home complaining. You do nothing. You have 2 options. Either go to games and show you are loyal fans, you might get a new arena if wang would make money. Or group up and demand explanations from Wang what his intentions are.

  130. avatar Jerky says:

New York Islanders = Doormats of the NHL

Cappy’s comments were a direct shot at the players (save Martin, JT and Hamonic) and especially at Snow and Wang for allowing this kind of effort to continue a quarter of the way through the season. Cappy will be terminated shortly.

    • avatar Tedge77 says:

Absolutely. With the losing streak, they have a perfect out. No decent coach will ever sign with Wang in control.

    • avatar isles316 says:

“I know what I would do, but that’s neither here nor there..” read between the lines and it means, I’d waive half of these guys or make a trade but we all know my bosses won’t.

      • avatar Im DONE says:

Feel bad for Cappy. I’m sure he wishes he had last yrs. lineup back. In training camp he skated these guys into the ice and vets like Rolston didn’t like it. Think Cappy was trying to weed out and eliminate some of the over the hill gang? You know he was. This isn’t the team he thought he would be coaching this year. And talking about “having each others back”? Konopka Gillies and Haley provided that and Cappy knows that. He might not be the best coach in the league but tell me who could do better with this roster. Bottom line is it’s all on WangSnow Do they really feel like their off season moves were going to make this team better? Snow can’t be that bad can he? He played the game. He knows team chemistry and saw how this team came together last yr. Then he goes and breaks it up? Doesn’t show well for him. It has to be coming from the top. Until we get an owner who knows the game and is willing to do what it takes to win at all costs we the fans will suffer. Feel bad for JT and Matt Martin. Their careers are being wasted on this mess. Would like to see what they would do on a legit team. It’s a shame.

  131. avatar Danfromouteast says:

On a positive note the islanders have perfected the one game winning streak

  132. avatar Danfromouteast says:

Snow I pray you read this.
You are an a**h**e you made milbury look like Torrey at this point. Your keen sense to get young free agents like moulson, grabner,Montoya is wasted in your otherwise poor management skills. You can’t avoid the fans forever you bum.

Capuano you want to stand up for your team and make a mark THEN DO SOMETHING DAMMIT! Your the coach but the fans know snow job runs the show. You are A. Not getting in the playoffs B. Probably will be gone MAYBE one more season so take this team by the ba##s and do what THE COACH should do. You have nothing to lose.
Wang I have nothing to say to you. You’re an absentee landlord. Neither you nor snow address the media/fans. Unless its to get your

  133. avatar Danfromouteast says:

    *sorry continue*
Wang you only address us when you want your vote. Well how do you expect people to pay or help pay for a NHL team arena when you clearly do not have an nhl and caliper team.

I , rather we the fans love our team too much to let this happen to our beloved team. I wish we as fans can all meet somewhere and discuss what we can do for our team. They have given us four cups. The least we can do is fight for our team. If it does nothing it most definetly will be in the hockey news and the media which is a good start. Who ever is interested in doing this because I can’t do this myself this is like hockey a team sport. My email address laughwithdan@gmail.com

  134. avatar Tedge77 says:

He will be banished like Jaffe, Konopka, Trottier, Lafontaine,Neil Smith, Nolan…Please tell me isf Im forgetting anyone. BTW I miss Deb Placey that Peter Whatever is a bufoon!

  135. avatar NYI Europe says:

You can blame Cappy for not playing Haley and Wishart who are better than Mottau Staios or Pandolfo and Reasoner. Still I ask: why don’t you fans protest against Wang?

  136. avatar Chris says:

Start a revolt. Occupy the Islanders offices until they fire Snow. The key is getting exposure from the national media like ESPN and USA Today. Geez if they can get rid of dictators in Egypt and Libya, we should be able to get rid of one on long island……..with no bloodshed though folks.

  137. avatar Chris says:

I’m actually considering returning my islanders gear to their office as a symbolic gesture. If we get enough people, it would make the news. Here you go, we dont need this stuff anymore, because we gave our heart, soul, and hard earned money to this team and you didnt recipricate.
Years ago when the giants were terrible, people actually burned their tickets at the stadium in protest. That got the league’s attention and changes were made.
Just staying away isn’t enough. We have to make a public statement.

    • avatar Erika says:

This is true. Staying away seems like we don’t care, which couldn’t be farther from the truth! Yesterday, I parted with 16 Islander Jackets and other various articles. I should have brought them to Snow or Garth’s office! We as fans need to do something besides complain. WE WANT OUR REAM BACK!

  138. avatar G says:

Well said by Cap. I can’t blame him entirely, but as the coach some lays on him. But this post game is a positive for him after his team stunk it up.
You have to have the talent and the players to compete night in and night out. THE ISLES SIMPLY DO NOT HAVE THAT. Where is our power forward? Where is our puck moving defenseman? Where is the speed? The physical playmakers that shake up games with thunderous hits and momentum changing checks? WE HAVE NONE.
We have less than 5 players we can rely on. Our goaltending is a joke. I blame this squarely on the owner and the GM. I do not want to hear about the building. Have you ever been in Detroit? That city is a nightmare but they draw for all 4 of their teams when they play well. The Red Wings play in an old barn too, but sell out every night, and their fans take a chance they’ll get mugged before or afterward…..Bottom line is, this team and franchise are an embarrassment, and I’m looking for answers as to why I’ve continued to watch, read about, comment and invest my energy into an organization that STINKS for the past 35 years……

  139. avatar geduffer says:

To call that effort pathetic last night would have made it look better than it was. Is anyone else out there as sick of watching Bailey and Comeau as I am? Watching those guys play makes me want to vomit on a daily basis. It’s time to get them, Mottau and Eaton off the roster and bring up Ullstrom, DiBenedetto and Wishart. The season’s not gone yet, but the day is coming.

  140. avatar NYISLES001 says:

wang is acting like a lame duck owner and will do so untill he sells the team.

He is not addressing the media and fans and is acting like a spoiled schmuck.

  141. avatar NYISLES001 says:

How long will Snow and Capuano go with Baily and Coumo. I was at the game last night. It was one of the worst games played by this team in their 40 year history. On several occasions, I saw Coumo and some other players shy away from physical contact. How many times do you see Coumo back off from making a hit. Baily looked better, but the kid lacks talent.

Boston just looked bigger and faster.

  142. avatar Bob Bassen says:

Wang stole money from Computer Associates shareholders. He played dumb but never gave the money back. So he is either evil or completely incompetent. Unfortunately, he is like most business leaders in the world, many of whom coincidentally also own professional sport teams.
Snow is the problem. He is a coward. If he had any real pride and wasn’t an insecure little boy he would either stand up to Wang or resign. Ahhh, but getting the keys to *Daddy’s Car* and driving around showing -off to your friends is just too much fun for Snowie! Let us not forget that it was these fascist that silenced Botta, Jaffe and probably many others. (Konopka? Pretty outspoken guy..hmmm)
Oh, obviously, Captain Weight will be coach here soon and I’m sure they’ll play some decent Pond Hockey games and give some *hope*.
I wonder how many of these guys can actually look into a mirror?

Snow and Wang will NEVER get another penny from me.
Hockey fan first, Islander fan second.

  143. avatar Lance says:

The only reason fans had hopes for this year is how we ended last year. And what was the turning point last year? The Pitt game. Why? Because we had heart. Haley, Gillies and Z are not here. We are listless. Boring. Soft. The champ bruins are tough, fun, the opposite of our sad franchise. You dont wait until taxares is mugged to call up Haley or Gillies. We have marginal talent constrained by the NYI past , the rink, bad drafting etc..There is NO reason to be soft . None. Please fans, boycott them.

  144. avatar Isles Fanatic says:

    Wow….what a season….

Their defense is horrible and there is no way it will get any better this season (no market for those slobs)….

The forwards are passive and do not compete hard enough….

Too many of what seems to be, mistakes….

Lets make no mistake, the Isles will not make the playoffs, too many teams ahead of them with too many points to make up….

All we can do now is hope for Strome to be better than Bailey, kiss him good bye….hope we get the number one pick….and cross our fingers that a few descent defensemen will sign here next year….

I am starting a Facebook page called SNow must go….anyone interested??

  145. avatar Joey says:

Snow needs to send a message, time to waive Pandolfo and Reasoner. Bring up someone who can make something happen or who will provide an effort!

  146. avatar Joey says:

forgot to add, some of the vets we picked up are just happy to be playing and getting a paycheck..

  147. avatar JS43 says:

It is a never ending nightmare. Our owner is a computer chip guy who was taught very little about hockey from Mad Mike!!!!Enough said on that issue.Capuana is not the problem. It is the owner and the Garth puppett putting that mess on the ice. The best thing would be for Wang to sell the team to an interested Canadian guy.I am done I can’t even bring myself to attend a game!

  148. avatar Larry G says:

Ken Daneyko, answered the question best, about what happened to the Isles’ winning style, in 2nd half of last year, and why they are losers. “They lost their identity, by getting rid of Knopka, Gilles, and Haley. They have NO fight in them.”
I totally agree, with him, plus, singing 3 done vets, who just plain stink, just to be at the minimum salary cap, is disgraceful! Rolston is DONE; he took a shot, that missed by 20 feet, with no one on him, he is slower than dead people; Reasoner is usless (truly a ‘never was’ impact player) & can’t hold Knopka’s used socks; Pandontful is retired already, and is just collecting a check (hey Wang we already have DP & Yashin doing that, while not contributing). This team has an owner, who dislikes fighting in the NHL, so why exactly did he buy an NHL team? Wang, just sell already, so we can get a true owner, who will bring in a real GM, and then the new experienced GM, can hire a real coach.
Until Wang sells, Isles are losers.
Anyone who knows Wang’s email, please send him this.

40 year fan, former season ticket holder, sick of bogus owners, over the last 20 or so years.

    Wang – SELL AREADY!!!

  149. avatar Mike says:

Gary Bettman needs to WAKE UP and STEP In!!!!!The game the night before Thanksgiving was always a big draw EVERYBODY should stay home!!!!

  150. avatar EdTurner says:

This is my first “comment” this season. I have not read the 175 comments above mine so if I am being repetitive, I am sorry.

This is our New York Islanders.

Until there is a new arena (and we all know there will never be one in Nassau County), this is what we will have to live with.

Every decision is based on $$$$$$

I understand that. I understand that Wang has lost millions and millions on this team but I don’t understand why Garth Snow is running the team.

As long as Snow is running the team, the team will lose.

Garth had zero experience when he was given this job.

You are hard pressed to find a positive decision he has made. He is not as bad as Mad Mike, but he is not any better.

The team is not fan friendly (by that I mean they really don’t care to put a winning team on the ice and they have the most ridiculous pricing plans of any sports team I have ever seen). There is no motivation to buy a ticket to see this team.

The team is not media friendly (see CB and Garth’s refusal to answer questions and how obnoxious he is the few times he does speak with the press).

    Capuano is not at fault!

    Capuano should NOT be fired!

This team needs new players on the ice.

The team that hits the ice Monday night should look very different than what we saw last night.

There has to be a line in Bridgeport that can come up and create energy and excitement that should motivate the other players to move their butts.

There have to be players in Bridgeport, that check – Bring Them Up!

There have to be players in Bridgeport, that block shots – Bring Them Up!

Make a trade, just to make a trade.

Cut a veteran to open a spot!

Cut a younger player that should not in the NHL (the Islanders have a few of those), to shock his teamates!

It was nice to see the anger in Capuano after the game. Now we need to see it on the ice.

Wang – Snow, it’s up to both of you to do something. All Capuano can do is deal withe the bodies you gave him. The New York Islanders need new bodies.

  151. avatar therain93--terriers fan says:

You can’t fault the goalies really — with the exception of a few games, they’re simply getting shell-shocked. People might get cranky at DiPi for the clearing attempt, but I think he’s feeling that same stress and trying to do something to jump start the offense. Obviously it didn’t work, but at least someone was thinking “Offense”.

As for Snow, I’ve been a pretty staunch defender of him over the years, but this is the one where I begin to hold him accountable. In particular, swapping our our toughness for other league castoffs. It’s one things to find those diamonds, like Moulson and Grabner, but its another thing to pick up the 30-35 year old guys on the decline. Snow messed up, or else his instruction was simply to spend money rather than field a team that might have synergy.

  152. avatar Ct 74 says:

Many players have no pride but that starts at the top. Neither wang, nor his minion do either. After 37 years as a full season subscriber I am seriously thinking it is time to spend my entertainment dollar and my time elsewhere. This is a disgrace. Fans of other teams come here and laugh at us as they defeat the wang/snow effortless rebuild. As 18 said, that team made the playoffs in THREE YEARS, good draft, good GM, good coach, owner who allowed those who really knew to run the team and players with some heart. A disgrace, A disappointment.

  153. avatar Isle Fan in Rye NY says:

    they need konopka

  154. avatar moonshine says:

did you see seguin go past niederreiter on the first goal? my guess is niederreiter hadn’t seen speed like that before. now we’ll see if he recognizes the level of hockey the nhl offers, and steps up. iow we’ll see if next time, another opponent goes past him the same way (which would mean niederreiter ain’t much to write home about), or if he reacts and makes a play (which would mean we’ve got something).

but the bigger point is that if they bring up a bunch of guys from bridgeport, it’ll be even more nhl vs minor leaguers, even more of a disaster, and they’ll lose games 12-0.

all of which pbl doesn’t matter, since i’m starting to think this franchise simply should be folded. not even moved. folded. it’s amazing that the owner doesn’t open his mouth at this point. as for the nhl commish, i don’t think he’s capable of helping to fix this mess. he’ll be saying ‘we’re looking to fix the islanders’ right up to five minutes before they fold. it’s all bs.

  155. avatar Jason Robert says:

The Islanders suck. Its the players we have not the coach.Garth needs to go and so does Wang. They’ve destroyed this once proud franchise. They’ve run it into the ground and wang wont spend any money for taleted players.Im not even watching the games anymore until their both gone. These guys are pitiful.

  156. avatar Fred says:

I like Cappy’s post game comments. He’s really ripping Snow’s additions and subtractions to the roster. The old vets don’t have the same heart as Gillies and Haley. The kids need to know they can dig in deep and someone is going to watch over them when push comes to shove.

Waive Reasoner, Pandolfo and Rolston, Recall Gillies, Haley and bring back in Okposo.

As far as the D goes, I would rather have Wishart and Reese playing hard and making mistakes then saying these old guys struggling to make it back to their coverage. A real pickup on D is needed though if they want to truly compete.

  157. avatar DWC says:

Capuano saying “I know what I would do.” is a shot at Garth. I don’t know how else you take that.

Here’s what I would do for starters:
Waive Mottau, Pandolfo and Rolston (+35 contract still counts against the floor)
Nilsson back down… recall Wishart, Gilles, Ullstrom and DiBenedetto.
    Roster:
    JT,MM,MG
    FN,NN,PAP
    DU,KO,MM
    MR,JD,TG
    MS,TH
    AM,TW
    MJ,SS
    AM
    RDP
    Scratches: Comeau,Bailey,Eaton

Reasoner is on notice with Cizikas as the next callup.

  158. avatar hoser14 says:

After sleeping off the hangover from last night’s debacle, I’m trying to fell better…..

We know that the Bruins are a real good team and a bad miss-match because they’re too big, too fast and way too tough for the way too small, slow and soft Islanders. This team needs a colonic and a heart transplant.

Isles are very lucky that they have played the fewest games 17, they have 65 games left to do something. Anything. Cut Reasoner. Waive DP. Trade Rolston for another bad contract. Bring up Haley. Bring back Konopka. Give Chris Botta back his press credentials. Reduce the concession and prices. Apologize for thinking that an ugly Third Jersey that no one wants is a good idea after you asked and were told “NO!”

ps: Al Arbour would never have said “I don’t have any answers” like Cappy did after the game. Here’s the answer: Good Bye!

    BRING BACK KONOPKA!

  159. avatar Bob says:

Nice to see Capuano with some fire but the answer is simple….Snow has turned this team into a bunch of cream puffs…why Haley is not with the team is beyond me. And no I don’t mean Gillies, no skill and stupid penalties, he is not the answer to this team’s problem. They need more than 2 minutes of passion.

  160. avatar LIT says:

Those blaming Cappy, please STOP.. The man has hinted multiple times that he has no control over who plays. Wang/Snow make that choice. When asked about Montoya not playing, he clearly stated “I have no concrete answer” which means it’s NOT his choice. Last nights interview he says “I know what I would do” which clearly means bring up some players from the AHL, but once again he has no control. So lay off Cappy and look at Snow/Wang. Remember decision by committee? Only committee here is Wang (and maybe Snow)

  161. avatar JOE FROM NC says:

    Ditto Harold!!!

  162. avatar THE PORK CHOP EXPRESS says:

Capuano post game said everything that is wrong with this team. It is ashame that they did not bring over last year’s momentum into this year. Other than JT and Matt Martin the players have all deteriorated. It was like they thought this year would be easy and did not work hard/smart in the offseason. The isles are slow and soft. They should all work out with JT. This kid’s skating and conditioning improves every year. We do not have multiple dimensional type players. You need players who can throw a hit, skate, make smart plays and play two way hockey. Yes, gillies, haley and konopka did not score and only played a couple of mins. agame. However they brought passion to the team. They opened the ice and put the other team on notice. And to be honest if you see a guy battling and working his butt off you better do the same. It was contagious last year and now we do not have that. Snow needs to make a move.

Streit def. is not back into game shape on the defensive end. It is important for snow to find a real number two dman to support him. AMac too has been reall bad too. He looks like he is still impacted by the hip. I have no problem wiht Hamanoic. He is young and will be good. He just needs help. The rest of the d are useless. They can’t move the puck, skate and keep the oppenents pinned against the wall.

Time to make IR everyone and bring up BP and try to bring in a multidimensional players.

  163. avatar The New Isles GM says:

Anyone else think it’s time to shop Streit while he still has some value? He’s only getting older, let’s get what we can and start filling out the roster the right way. Part of being a good GM is knowing when to pull the trigger. But who am I, I know nothing compared to sir Garth Snow.

  164. avatar Jason says:

It is only going to get worse. If you think the bulding is empty now, just wait. You comp fans dont show up. Why would we show up and waste $$ on an org that doesnt give a shit about winning. I dont realy blame snow or cappy. Isles have off plenty of guys contract last few yrs, but noone wants to play here. I had so much hope this yr and was so excited. But once again, was sold a pipedream by this joke of a franchise.

  165. avatar Bobby S says:

You want changes ? we need a sell out game and all chanting SNOW MUST GO !!! for 60 min and the game on Versus
    You will see major changes

  166. avatar isleopine says:

You know how bad things really are when opponents can not contain themselbes and laugh openly at you. DP has and will continue to be an albatross on this teams neck so long as Wang does not buy out his contract.
At this point the only thing that could salvage (if at all possible) this season is radical surgery and removal of some obvious tumors: DP, Mottau, Pandolfo, Eaton. Management should not be immune either. Sno Must Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  167. avatar Alecberg says:

Time to look forward to the first round draft choice. Oh wait, wasn’t DP a 1st rounder.

  168. avatar Paislesfan says:

Not sure what to say that hasn’t been said already. The lack of energy and the aura of apathy pervades this organization at all levels.

The season ticket holder who reviewed his experience about the year book reminds me of our experience from Pennsylvania last year. I tried to secure tickets, willing to pay, but was told there were many available so just go to the box office. Unwilling to make a 2 plus hour drive without secured tickets, I was told “why don’t you just stay home in Pennsylvania and watch the game on TV?”

Point being is that you get what you pay for. The organization is subjected to budgets at all levels. Fans are treated like dirt (at least that’s the perception) at all levels, most obvious example is the product on the ice.

Regardless of skill level and lack of depth, there should never be an excuse for a lack of effort. In these economic times, these players should feel privileged to be paid playing a game they love. On the other hand, if they truly feel that way, they have a funny way of showing it….

No more drives from Pa to see this team. We have had ample time with the number of “high end” picks over the past few years to turn this franchise around. This should be obvious to the powers that be.

  169. avatar TimQ says:

I’m an Isle fan living live in MN and feel lucky to have missed last night’s disgrace. Wanted to share this blurb from respected Star Tribune sports writer (and native Long Islander) Michael Russo:

N.Y. Islanders: When does GM Garth Snow become accountable for this mess? Josh Bailey has one goal, Blake Comeau and Kyle Okposo none. Expect some fireworks on Long Island, and hopefully it goes beyond firing yet another coach.

  170. avatar hangover3 says:

Coach knows he will be fired either in the nest several days, or at the end of the season. Otherwise he doesn’t openly admit in the last week that snow/wang decide which goalie plays and snow/wang dont want a physical team….coach is on the way out and knows it.

  171. avatar Al's Beef says:

Everyone in hockey knows Wang is a nut. As long as he owns the team Snow has the GM job. No one wants to work for Wang, especially a qualified GM candidate.

  172. avatar ohio says:

Don’t know why Cappy hasn’t come up with the magical system tahat would make these guys be able to make a 10 foot pass, accept said pass, actually skate into the corner to fight for the puck instead of glide and get there way late, be able to stop a weak pass up the boards before it gets to the point guy or drive to the net and maybe get a dirty goal. Couldn’t watch anymore after the 3rd goal. Turned on the Pens-Panther game and watched 2 teams that could actually do those things. Sad sad sad.

  173. avatar Mike029 says:

A Quote from Cappy, “I know what I would do”. That tells us all we need to know. Snow and/or Wang is pulling the strings here. Cappy has no say. He has been hinting at it for the last few weeks now.

Note to Wang & Snow, let the guy coach or fire him and have the guts to come down and take the bench yourself. What a bunch of gutless pukes.

To think I purchased season tickets this year thinking it would be different. What a joke.

  174. avatar John says:

What Snow doesn’t seem to get is that his career is shot beyond the Islanders. He’s in a proverbial catch-22. It’s either, A) remain with a team in which you have no authority, no budget and a nincompoop owner thereby coming across to colleagues in your industry as a paper tiger; or B) quit because you can’t succeed under such conditions and never get another GM job elsewhere because of your horrible track record in the first place. No one ever has a life after working for Charles. See Sanjay Kumar, Mike Milbury, Ted Nolan, Neil Smith, Bryan Trottier, Scott Gordon. Laviolette would be the exception. Milbury still hangs around the game because his gift of gab fits well in media. Garth Snow sold his soul. There is no out. Lesson in life: if a deal is too good to be true, it usually is. That’s how back- up goalies get a GM job with no experience.

  175. avatar moonshine says:

the islanders last year did not have ‘the best record in the nhl after the all-star game.’ maybe cappy knows what he would do, and maybe he’s right that a wholesale youth movement from bridgeport would be the way to go, all things co sidered. but in the meantime i’d appreciate it if at least he didn’t talk loose with the facts. the sloppiness on the ice carries straight over into the post-game interview.

Atta boy Captain Jack I have your back Pisan..tell it like it is…almost threw up watching the replay of this after a long shift in the hollywood hills…you fans that believe in this clown moulson you are clueless and maybe there is a reason why grabbner was chopped from two teams (he is horrible people). I can go on but whats the point…I’m done with this joke of a franchise like the team that played last night I cannot go on…….Goodluck Captain Jack stand your ground….

Hey Charles, how about you get your head out of your ass and fire everyone including yourself. You are nothing but a joke and you should feel ashamed for turning a once proud franchise into a complete embarrassment. You are a complete failure. Sell now and let someone else take this team. It’s a crime what you have done to this team and it’s fans. You can wipe your ass with the third jersey. Step away, you are a cancer to this team.

  181. avatar Pete says:

Fire the coach? REALLY? What coach in their right mind would want to coach these misfts? Even the misfits in the land of misfit toys would want to be associated with this bunch. Keep JT and Martin, everyone else is expendable. On the bright side, at least visiting teams’ fans are buying tickets to see this garbage.

Happens every game. I buy season tickets and am surrounded by opposing team fans all year.

You hit it on the head Pete.

Boycotting games is not the answer, it will make it easier to relocate the team! You should follow Dan’s suggestion and get together!

  183. avatar Pete says:

I’m not boycotting. I’m not wasting good money on bad hockey.

Harold, I believe you have expressed what most of us feel about the failurs of this team for the last 18 years or so, i’ve been a fan since 73, and this stretch is even much worse then their beginnings, due to the BS from Snow telling us all that these squads he has put together are playoff ready, he is not only being disingenuous, he is a BSer in the nth degree,as for your comment about we thinking this year was going to be different, I wasn’t one of them, mainly for the fact that one must remember, who owns the team, and his management, whom are incapable incompetent, and way over their heads.

  191. avatar Isle Insider says:

Hey sissy boy, make sure you have your Diaper
    on!

  192. avatar Rich L says:

Hey Mike, a Mets, Jets, and Islanders fan? seems to me you only get three strikes,I extend my sympathy.

  193. avatar Chris says:

Pitt is bringing back Crosby because tHey know no chance of a concussion, or even a body check, on Monday night.

  194. avatar Rich L says:

Hey Kevin, Thanks for showing the Cappy post game press video in it’s entire lenght of time, I watched it on the station and it only lasted about a dozen seconds, so I missed most of it, thanks to the media, and station, that it was cut so short, and ended very abruptly.

  195. avatar Rich L says:

Chris, this team is so frail, and small if they went into a corner vs a player with eggs in their “pockets” they would come out with none of them broke, outside of Martin and maybe 1 more player.

  196. avatar joe says:

we should have never gotten rid of konopka first off. Snow needs to make a trade enough of these veterans who haven’t done a thing all year. we need good well developed young players. Snow do something before ur fired
