RANGERS 4 (EN) ISLANDERS 2
Better Effort, Similar Outcome

by Keith Quinn on November 15th, 2011 at 9:31 pm

The ship on moral victories has sailed… This team needs a real one, badly.

Jack Capuano scratched alternate captain Kyle Okposo and his most veteran defenseman (Mark Eaton) and inserted nineteen year old rookie Nino Niederreiter into the lineup hoping to catch a spark and wake up some of the “passengers”.  It didn’t look as if it was going to work in the first as the Isles were being outshot 4-1 after 6:30 of play.

What is becoming increasingly clear is that the Islander defensive strategy is not working. They are often caught with the three forwards below the tops of the circles in support of the defense.  Once possession is gained, there are limited options for breakout passes, not enough speed to skate the puck out and often, there is a weak clear up the boards that is taken by the opposing defense, and the cycle starts over again.  This was the calling card of a first period that saw the Isles dominated and outshot 14-5 and extremely lucky to be tied at one.

The first goal of the game found five Isles watching after a weak backhand clear found it’s way to the stick of stick of Sean Avery who worked between the lot of them for a quick shot past Nabokov.  The Islanders would answer a little over two minutes later on one of the best breakouts I remember seeing in recent games.  The puck was pushed up quickly by Travis Hamonic to PA Parenteau who dished off a beauty of a pass to send Frans Nielsen alone on Henrik Lundqvist.  Nielsen had so much space he almost looked shocked, but he sent a knuckling wrist shot through Lundqvist’s glove for his sixth point in the last five games.

Toward the end of the period, Mike Mottau and Sean Avery were given matching unsportsmanlike conduct penalties (Avery was sent to the locker room for some reason) as they nearly came to blows after a Mottau hit and the typical subsequent Avery face-wash/chirp/glove magnet trifecta.  The penalties carried over into the second, and the two went at it for real as soon as the penalties expired. (By “went at it”, I mean stretched their laundry and swung each other around a little.)

The second period was the Islanders turn to dominate play as they outshot the Rangers 16-8 in the frame, but the Rangers manged to regain the lead.  Ryan Callahan worked through Travis Hamonic in the corner to Nabokov’s right and fired a cross ice pass to a streaking Steve Eminger who had somehow lost Jay Pandolfo and went undetected by Marty Reasoner to bang it past Nabokov.  Again, there were more Islanders in the area than Rangers.

One of the surprises of the night was the work of the newly developed second power play unit featuring Blake Comeau, Michael Grabner, Nino Niederreiter, Brian Rolston and Travis Hamonic.  They had sustained pressure, fantastic puck movement, and continued the pressure for well after the power play expired on a couple of occasions tonight.  (Andrew MacDonald replaced Rolston towards the end of both power plays, and was outstanding).  It is not the group of guys you would expect to generate that much pressure, but it may be interesting.  Sometimes things just work.

The second period also saw a tremendous five on three penalty kill for over a minute and a half.  About thirty seconds after Milan Jurcina’s initial hooking call, Marty Reasoner was whistled for a trip.  Nielsen, MacDonald and Hamonic were stellar throughout the kill.  They were physical, moving people from in front of the net, not giving the Rangers anything to shoot at and were on for the entire minute and a half plus.  That was the most gassed I have ever seen a hockey player.  By the time MacDonald was whistled for a roughing (from a tremendous battle with Callahan), the three of them could barely move.

The third period saw some back and forth battling.  At 6:58 of the third on an Islander power play, John Tavares showed his vision by firing a pass through the crease from the corner to Lundqvist’s left that landed right on Matt Moulson’s tape for an easy tap-in knotting the game at two.  Unfortunately, the misplay of the night is going to be Josh Bailey’s Chris Campoli-like clearing attempt that led to the game winning goal.  Bailey ended up with the puck on his stick between the circles in the defensive zone, put it on his backhand and floated a weak clearing attempt that was taken by Brandon Dubinsky and quickly moved to Brad Richards who was by himself to Nabokov’s right.

The empty net goal came with less than one second in regulation off a mid-ice shot from Callahan after a furious Isles push.

Ramblings and Observations

As much as this was probably Mike Mottau’s best game this season, it is still entirely noticeable when he’s on the ice (for the wrong reasons).  It tends to be worse when he is on the ice with lines three or four.  It may be time to look to Bridgeport.

Blake Comeau actually looked good tonight.  He was hitting, he was skating, and he also had only 10:54 of ice time.  This may be his magic number.

Nino was not visible in a good way.  I hope Islander fans aren’t expecting him to be a savior.  His PP2 line was effective and that may be very helpful going forward.

We got a good scare tonight when Matt Martin left for a few minutes after fighting Brandon Prust with what appeared to be Islander-shoulder.  The team can not afford to lose any physicality to the lineup…especially a guy who is responsible for about 20% of their hits.

The Islanders need to stop knocking opponents into their own goaltenders.

Despite some pretty poor play lately, there are probably better “scratch” candidates than Kyle Okposo.  Let’s hope this is a one time thing and he has his head right because he can do well if this team plays like it did tonight.

PA Parenteau is the Isles best puck carrying forward and is generally calm and cool distributing.  The Isles may want to consider re-signing him…particularly if Okposo, Bailey and Comeau don’t start coming around soon.

Tonight, the Isles outshot AND outhit the Rangers and also had more power plays.  While it didn’t bear out in the “W” column, that is the formula for winning hockey games.

    nice one Bailey.

  2. avatar Ethan K says:

Another game where John Tavares shows up and nobody has the talent to help him out. GET JOSH BAILEY OUT OF THE NHL HE HAS NO FREAKING VALUE!!!!!

  3. avatar IslanderFAN says:

again some bad ref calls!! give me a break there was no penalty on Grabner and how in the hell they missed the call on Avery high stick on Tavares??? the refs are a joke

  4. avatar jisles says:

My God, Bailey! We don’t even play it up the middle like that in my intramural ball hockey league. What the hell. That was a minor league play in a major league game.

  5. avatar Brain says:

That should be Josh Bailey’s last game as an Islander.

  6. avatar martin says:

    Josh Bailey = Bust
    Garth Snow = Bust
    Charles Wang = Bust

Top 5 pick again = Boom

  7. avatar Ryan says:

Bailey should sit the next few and we can hope Okposo wakes up. Oh yeah, by the way, the season is over.

  8. avatar Will says:

Josh Bailey needs to be traded or waived right now you do not make a lazy a$$ excuse of a play like that with 5 mins to go in a tie game against your biggest rivals he should never be allowed to wear an islanders uniform again. When is enough gonna be enough this team is gonna be in the basement forever its like they dont care a trade needs to be made now. at this point i would take a movie size bag of popcorn and diet coke for Bailey and that would be asking to much

    • avatar Hishutzi Skorz says:

It runs way deeper than “the play.” I was at the game and he was visibly noticeable for 1) turning and skating away when he had a chance to LEGALLY finish a check with a bump (at least) and 2) doing “the wave” (as in his stick) when a Ranger skated by him with the puck.

In the past I’ve been an apologist, blaming the back and forth C-W-C-W-C and the banishment to Bport as being the reasons he was underperforming.

Bottom line is, he plays with no heart, and offers nothing to this team. Look around the league for another young underachiever with a similar contract and make the deal. Maybe a change in scenery will work for both players (as it did for Grabner). This is not another Bertuzzi case in which we should be afraid of losing a potential talent and have nothing in reserve.

With Strome, Cizikas, and Nelson on the horizon at C, we’ll have a number of options to fill his spot.

  9. avatar Fran's dish says:

The fail for nail campaign has officially begun. Thank you islanders for ruining any hope I had for this season

  10. avatar IslanderFAN says:

oh please give Bailey a break (yes it was a bad play) people should be talking more about the none call on Avery high stick Tavares..c’mon!!

  11. avatar juniorjunior says:

it feels like we are never going to win a game….I want Garth to speak….Charles Wang speak to us…tell us that you are working on a new arena and the Isles will stay in NY at least..give us some good news FFS….we endure too much pain.

  12. avatar crazy j says:

can’t believe I wasted the night watching these slobs

  13. avatar Brian G says:

Bailey will be scratched on thursday….but Snow needs to make a trade or fire the coach to stop the bleeding….When will the worst owner in sports let our so called GM take some money back in a trade? Waive Pandolfo and bring up Cizikas at the least….Anything Isles management, Do you know what you are doing…1 win in 11 games & last place in the east should tell you something….get a clue Wang

  14. avatar claude says:

Mottau and Bailey are big liabilities just send to BP. No one cares!!!
Nabby proved that he still got it, trade him for someone who can actually move the puck out of defensive zone already.
    Nuf is Nuf.
We are all so tired of this crap

  15. avatar paulunde says:

Bailey and Okposo were guys we counted on to help turn this thing around. Amazing how bad they both look now.

As far as Nabby goes, I do think he might be our best goalie. He played a solid game, and were it not for Bailey we’d be in OT now.

  16. avatar Joe says:

Streit, A-Mac and Hamonic are the only good defenseman on the isles, the rest of them suck. Their defense is atrocious, just like last year. Every time mottau is out there they could NEVER get the puck out of the zone. I dont understand why they play rolston so much, he’s a solid 3rd/4th line player, but thats about it.

  17. avatar Cdu says:

Oh Bailey what were you thinking. Refs are always against us. Atleast the isles played a physical game which is nice to see.

  18. avatar dudley leiwicker says:

The only reason Bailey and Okposo are still with the team is that Wang needs them on the roster to reach the salary cap floor. He is afraid that either or both will be claimed if they are sent to the AHL, where they belong, and then the Isles would be under the cap.

  19. avatar Brian G says:

Hey MSG & Isles….Let Nino play 25 games before we make him the savior…don’t put any added pressure on the kid…with all of the talk about him tonight I thought the Isles got the swiss version of Gretzky in the lineup…

    • avatar Jerome says:

Bob and the rest of you dreamers. can we cut it out with the “Garth speak” mandate? what exactly do you want him to say? he would spin it anyway. has he ever answered a question in a direct, honest way? we don’t need him to talk; actions speak infinitely louder than words.

  20. avatar Bob says:

This is Snow’s team and he needs to address Islander fans to let us know the direction of team that is already out of the playoff race BEFORE Thanksgiving!

  21. avatar JTizzle says:

Whole team sucks except for 5 players! CB gave this garbage team to much credit! This season is finished! Just imagine if something happened to JT! This bunch of scrubs would win 5-10 games the whole year!

  22. avatar moonshine says:

they lost this game because of the two things they do really badly: weak side defense, and clearing the puck. and i hate to talk about the coach all the time, but that’s what coaching is about. what these guys need is to get organized. maybe there isn’t a coach alive who could do it, but this one sure doesn’t seem able.

streit played a solid game. tavares in the 3rd period was a monster. nabokov was solid. three performances like that should be enough to win some games.
great job by mottau. the rangers have two fighters and they both fought. the islanders only have one, but mottau stepped in to make things even.

    • avatar Joe says:

I agree, especially when mottau is out there. The puck is always in the defensive zone and they could never clear it out. The best coach they had in recent years was ted nolan, he knows how to coach.

  23. avatar Blizz says:

Islanders played a good game in spots. Not a good play by Baily, JT is awesome nuff said. Nabby looks primed for a trade. Bring up some youth and waive the dead wood these players now aren’t capable of turning this thing around there is nothing to lose.

  24. avatar Brian G says:

The GM should be fired for putting together this piss poor roster…but he is just a puppet and is sitting back, b/c he knows his job is safe….Wang just sell the team , you are a joke of an owner

  25. avatar josh says:

this so called rebuild is a joke. it shouldnt take this long to be a competitive team. look at the oilers. they were the worst team in hockey last year and now there a real team again. this just shows how bad this team is run. its a joke. and the 3 goalie thing is a bigger joke. if you have a rough game you may not play again for 3 weeks. you might not even dress..this team need to be run a little different. and im tired of after each tough loss listening to capuano saying this was one of our best efforts of the year..it a joke

  26. avatar WM says:

Bailey with his second assist of the season. Perfect pass.

  27. avatar ohio says:

Sad but Bailey looks like a boy playing against men. That last turnover wasn’t his only one he just got away with the others. Would rather see Eaton then Mottau sad as it is.

  28. avatar Brian G says:

Capuano is so happy with the effort…try doing what ever you can to win the game, block some shots – play with more heart….5 shots in the 1st period, they didn’t get a pulse until the 2nd period….Capuano go back to the AHL where you belong. They have played some bad Hockey, was Capuano sleeping on the bench the last 11 games….

  29. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

Rangers’ last two free-agent signings..Gaborik and Richards. Islanders..Reasoner and Eaton. Enough said.

  30. avatar KaiserVanIslander says:

We really need to do something quick. The roster we have right now doesn’t work and it can’t be fixed. We need to trade for a real D man. Mottau and Eaton just flat out should not be in the NHL. Bailey needs to be traded or sent down. How about a least bringing up some of the kids from the bridge. Pandolfo needs to go..Garth do something I want a winning team not the same thing as the last 4 yrs

  31. avatar Brian G says:

Just bring in the Sumo to play goal Wang, you won’t have to pay him much…Don’t worry you cheapskate!

  32. avatar hoser14 says:

This one tasted like excrement pie. Bailey should join Okposo up in the pressbox.

I don’t want to hear about how well they played by Howie, Butch and the new guy, I DON’T CARE! This team and season is well passed moral victories and well on their way to another lottery pick…..again!

That flushing sound is another season going down the crapper in November. Nice going Snowballs.

  33. avatar dudley leiwicker says:

Capuano is a joke but Wang won’t spend the money to get a genuine NHL coach. And Snow is even worse as a GM than Cappy is as a coach. Right now this is by far the worst player-for-player roster in the league. Not even Columbus would dress Bailey, Okposo or Comeau. To say nothing of Pandolfo, Rolston or Reasoner.

  34. avatar jimbones says:

3 guys that absolutely have to go are BAILEY OKPOSO AND MATTAOU( sp)

  35. avatar Jim Clark says:

Our big anticipation right now is the unveiling of the third jersey, to see if they are as hideously ugly as we know they will be (and have been leaked several months ago).

Can’t get closer to Columbus for the Nail sweepstakes.

  36. avatar Brian G says:

Play Peter Ruttgaizer on the 4th line on Thursday, anything Snow….make some moves already..PS: Frans the team played hard for 40 min not 60…wake up

  37. avatar islesrock73 says:

Garth, get rid of Bailey now!! Garth, it’s like when you buy a bad stock, you cut your losses before your “asset” becomes worthless. If you made that type of pathetic clear in an old mans recreational game, you would take some crap. As a whole, the Isles played much better. This kind of effort every night will produce some wins, but I doubt it will happen with this bunch.

We are still too soft upfront, and we have only three NHL caliber defensemen. At this point, I would keep Nabby. He looks like the best of the bunch.

    JT is a stud!!!

  38. avatar D in Big D says:

Is it me or are we always chasing the puck?Offense–round & round the boards it goes.Defense(except for Bails) round & round the boards it goes.Message to Cap…PRACTICE PASSING!!This team reminds me of the Tom Fitz,Randy Wood,Brad Dalgarno era.Pitiful.

  39. avatar Warren says:

Bailey is a waste of a roster spot. Debate how rushing him and putting him in a position where he is now a total liability all you want, he needs to be ANYWHERE BUT HERE.

  40. avatar nyc dork says:

Shultzy, Please explain what Cappy’s system.
If puck management is making good decisions with the puck in all 3 zones, its not working for this team.
I have noticed over the years that Torterela’s system is block shots, take away and block passing lanes in the defensive zones/ forcinng turn-overs. This has worked so well for the Rags that I believe that they don’t even need star players on the team. If anything it slows down Gaboriks game and production. Torterella has mastered this with every team he has coached. Remember Isles vs Tampa playoff series? All you heard was shot blocked, shot blocked, shot blocked. Torterella was tampa’s coach at the time.
Don’t you think its time for the coach play a similar system? Seriously, Cappy’s has to find a better system for his team.

  41. avatar Stephen says:

Solid game. As soon as Bailey screwed up you knew the puck was going in the net. Since they have taken Pandolfo’s minutes down severely on pk, it looks like he will be on waivers soon so that is good news. Keep top two lines for a few more games and then put Bailey in between Nino and Okposo starting Thurs. If Bailey/Okie still can’t get it going then we change things up. That being said, I am not opposed to sitting Bailey.

  42. avatar Arbour = Leader says:

Look, this is all you need to see. Avery mouthing off to Taveras after stick to the face in 3rd.
He is mocking our star because he is the “Bully” and is taking our milk money.
The 1/2 second You get in front of the net when players fear retribution the 1/2 second your Goalie has when they don’t get in his face because they are scared.
You can’t play Haley or have Gillies as a healthy scratch because of Pandolfo.
Let’s bow to “King Snow” who actually not only has us losing in the 4th year of the rebuild, but has also made us one of the older teams in the league
Butch do you really need the paycheck? You have ruined your legacy, you have become a joke. Enjoy that check.

  43. avatar nightbite21 says:

“Boy, I bet Josh Bailey would like to have that one back”. Hey Butch, why don’t you stop sugarcoating every moment of this disaster. Noooooo, that is just an unacceptable decision by a professional athlete and very well could cost them the game. We all know it so f$#!in say it!!! Oh riiiiight….Wang’s electro-shock machine still hooked up to your sack.

  44. avatar nyi fan 16 says:

Bailey should be scratched next game..that was a lazy mindless play that is inexcusable. Mike Motteau might be the worst dman Ive ever seen, Gervais and Hillen were all-stars compared to this guy, watch when he goes back to get the puck, it’s always a turnover, amazing this is the best they can do. Why does it seem it’s more important to be friends with Snow and Wang then to actual produce and win hockey games? I feel like a total schmuck for renewing my ticket plan.

  45. avatar Brian G says:

Maybe Wang will have Snow Fire Capuano and have Butch coach the team….

  46. avatar LeftCoast says:

Bailey has shown some good skills, but it’s obvious now that the reason he wasn’t signed earlier was because the Islanders wanted a two-way so they had the option to get him more experience down in the A. He still is a work in progress. That play was an abomination. You have to clear the puck. They have no other choice now other than to play Bailey here to get experience, but this is not the league for that.
Tavares is truly one of the most amazing players all-around that I have seen in some time. If his persistence catches on, this team could take off.

  47. avatar Bill W. says:

Rebuild??? 4 years later they’re worse than ever. That’s on Garth.

  48. avatar Bob E says:

was at game. when that puck was coughed up to richards im like OH NO. he earne his paycheck tonight.

Cant knock isles tonight. they played well. Only problem is i realize after streit hammer and mcdonald this may be worst defensive corp we have put out in last 5 years.

martinek would be mighty useful right now.

    • avatar nyc dork says:

That why Snow should get ripped a new a-hole for not upgrading decent 5th 6th dmen. no excuse Snow. you look dumb for this.

  49. avatar jon from nj says:

Wow, I didn’t think it would be possible to match last year’s 20 game winless streak and be out of it by X-mas again…but, never count out these Islanders. When you think they’ve hit rock bottom, let them show you that you actually have no clue as to how low they can sink.

  50. avatar Hud says:

why is everyone so upset? They did not pull the goalie until the last minute, this was a great sign, things are getting better, rejoice!

  51. avatar DRIVE45 says:

Time to start looking at the top prospects for the 2012 draft. How has Wang made all his money the way he runs this franchise. Snow should go as should Capuano. Bring NHL caliber professionals and this team might start winning. I can’t take this anymore.

  52. avatar Merrick says:

Must be something with the #12. That pass looked a lot like something Oleg Kvasha would do. However, Garth Snow is to blame for Bailey. There is no way he should have been in the NHL immediately after being drafted and we killed his development. But JT–what a beast!

  53. avatar The New Isles GM says:

    John Tavares = Simply Amazing

The kid does it all. Makes everyone around him better. Imagine if he was surrounded by legit 1st liners, imagine how good they would make Tavares….

Garth, it’s time to pull the trigger on something. It’s Montoya’s turn to get 4 out of the next 5 games. Nabokov’s value is determined. Your return will be nothing better then a 2nd round pick, at best. If Pittsburgh can keep winning without Crosby, then we got more problems then what meets the eye.

  54. avatar nyc dork says:

yes, the isles worked hard tonight but i think its time for Cappy to play a smarter system for the players he has. Its frustrating to watch blocked shots, pass blocked, shot blocked, pass blocked, shot blocked, pass blocked all game by the rags.
The Gizzbags are a team of goal scoring opportunists yet play a frustrating game under Toterella. Thats the difference between an established coach and a AHL coach
    Cappy= AHL coach
    Torterala = good coach

  55. avatar claude says:

franz nielsen sounded like he was a verge of a nervous breakdown on post game

  56. avatar justin says:

Good game emotion wise, tough luck on the clear by Bailey but its a team game no one player loses anything. Positives nice to see more than one guy fight, the team racked up a few hits by others , not just matt martin. Some team bonding tonight, martins a warrior tho, hurt soulder on the big hit/tired and still willing to drop em when asked, good for you matt real team guy.

  57. avatar MikeInNYC says:

Isles are not going to sign any decent free agents until they prove they have a team with some talent. Big free agents usually leave mediocre teams where they are depended on too heavily to go to teams like the rangers or red wings where they are surrounded by peers and can compete on a higher level.

The first steps have to come from within.

  58. avatar Arbour = Leader says:

Bailey is “King Snows” fault. If you want to trade down to get extra picks fine, but don’t put a kid who is not a once in a life time talent on the Isles with no talent around him. If this was Wangs company he would be fired from his $10.00 an hour job.

Garth “No Excuses” Snow How many games lost to injury do we have this year?

  59. avatar MikeInNYC says:

As they say in baseball, never judge a call-up player based on what he does in April or in September.

Everyone put too much stock in Hamonic, MacDonald, Parenteu, Comeau and hell maybe even Grabner based on what they did in garbage time last year.

  60. avatar buzzard115 says:

hey preist missed you at softball this season!!! go isles …. yea right!!!!!

  61. avatar Ditty says:

Time to start wearing fire Snow and Wang sell t-shirts to the games. It worked for Detroit lions when the fans got sick of Matt Millen…

  62. avatar BigDaddyLynch says:

What truly annoys me is the complacency. Cappy says we had a lot of guys work really hard tonight. Well big deal, me and my buddies could go skate as hard as we could out there but that doesn’t mean we are NHL players. We need to look at results and plain and simple we suck. We have no defense and five out of our 12 forwards actually have a chance at scoring. Something needs to change now.

  63. avatar Brian G says:

We are rebuilding and we have the most players over the age of 33 in the NHL….8 of them…The Isles are nothing but an old age home for over the hill vets that are hanging on for their last season or two in the NHL…examples of players that were done when they came to Isles: Guerin, Weight, Eaton, Mottau, Staios, Pandolfo, Reasoner, Sim, Rolston…did I leave anyone out

  64. avatar fsap says:

I nomally dont read blogs, but being so upset with this team i have to vent. I agree with most of these posts..This team truly SUCKS. This team has no direction, because of all the very bad GMs the ownership has brought in. And I am sick of hearing after every loss how well this team played… all BS.
living in NJ, i have to deal with the Devils and all around the tri state we all deal with the Rangers. At least they know how to put a winning product on the ice every other year or so….Bring-em all up from the minors, got nothing to lose…

  65. avatar MN says:

    AARRGGHHH.
Tired of this year after year. Sometimes a shake up is needed…can’t lose 20 of 21 in the first 1/4 of the season one year and then 10 of 11 the first 1/4 the next year. Completely demoralizing the fan base.
I guess I’m the sucker for buying tickets every year.
    Nothing ever changes.

  66. avatar Brian G says:

When will the draft talk start? I can’t believe I am saying this….Last year the season was over before Thanksgiving and we are on the same path again this season…Isles management doesn’t have a clue what they are doing….try improving the team

  67. avatar bossjones15 says:

    Plus-JT
Minus-Bailey with another mental error (time to stop wasting everyone’s time with the psych test during the combine because its clearly a crock of x)
Minus-Defense it’s bad already but at some point this season Hamonic Streit or MacDonald will get injured and then forget about it.
Minus-Snow… we go from a GM who loved to make moves but was brain dead to one who is a prospect hoarder and only likes to hire nice guys he played with/against but who cant play hockey anymore.
    Totally ridiculous

  68. avatar Allen says:

The fans should boycott a game and send a message to the ownership. That would make major headlines and it would be interesting to hear Garths and Wangs reactions to that.

    • avatar 2015? who cares? says:

That would make headlines for sure. Time to put pressure on the clowns running this circus. This is way out of hand.

  69. avatar pete says:

Isles should sign Bailey to a 15 year contract, the precedent has been set.

  70. avatar Mike says:

I am really debating if I want to become a Sabres fan.

  71. avatar Allen says:

Does anyone else agree to boycotting a home game? The fans need to be heard.

    • avatar 2015? who cares? says:

we all should agree. pick a game lets do it

      • avatar Hector Marini says:

I think it’s better to sell out a game and pay absolutely NO attention to the on ice product.
The whole game should consists of “Snow must go” and “Please sell Charles”
Let the players know they’re not the reason we don’t show up, it’s management!
If that doesn’t wake them up start picketing their homes!!

    • avatar Bob says:

I’ve boycotted every game this year but the home opener. There have been plenty of games last season with between 5,000-8,000 fans and Wang still didn’t get the message. He looks for every excuse to justify the poor attendance except the main one….winning!

    • avatar Mike says:

Gave my tickets away for Sat night!!!!! I’m DONE!!!!!

  72. avatar Chris Willmer says:

Bailey needs to go now. Same with Comeau, Mottau, Eaton, Rolston, Staios, and Pandolfo. Time to trade Nabokov too. Need a defensemen who can actually play and is under 30. Shea Weber might be obtainable. Nashville won’t be able to resign Weber and Suter with the contract they just gave Pekka Rinne. I would think if we offered our first round pick this june nashville would be crazy not to listen. The trade would of course be dependent on Weber signing long term. At least 4 years. Or we offer a huge deal to Columbus for Rick Nash. Our 1st pick, Bailey, Comeau, Nabokov and maybe a D prospect to Columbus for Nash and Tyutin to take salary from Columbus also. That’d give Columbus 2 top 5 picks. They’d have to listen.

  73. avatar isles316 says:

Isles are handcuffed because there is
not enough cap floor space. Islanders are $1.8 million over the cap floor. They want to trade Nabby? That takes off another $570,000. So now you are down to $1.23 million of floor space.

Guys that make less than that are:

    Bailey $1,050,000
    Martin$$852,000..not going anywhere
    Neilson$525,000..not going anywhere
    Hamonic$875,000..not going anywhere
    Mottau$800,000
    McDonald$500,000..not going anywhere.

    Montoya $700,000

So basically if they trade Nabby for a pick, then they can’t waive anyone except Bailey and Mottau.

Not good when guys like Pandolfo, Rolston, Reasoner, all were brought in to be solid vets and all of them haven’t done crap.

If this is on Wang for not letting Snow spend then it’s time he freaking gets out or if Snow wasn’t lying last year and if he has no money restrictions then he needs to go. The team is handcuffed by this awful management.

    • avatar fass16 says:

This is entirely true because whoever they bring in to fill the hole will make at least the league minimum of 525,000 which off sets some of the cost. there is a little room, not much, but a little

  74. avatar DocDuke says:

I don’t expect much from this team. The core is still very young. I don’t let their mistakes get to me.

It’s the unnecessary distractions that upset me.

Like playing Nabokov to showcase him, regardless of the fact Montoya is playing better. Just trade him…for anything!

And playing D.P. just to save face.

Also, not obtaining “productive” veterans have killed the development of kids like Bailey & Okposo.

And i can’t understand for the life of me why anyone would think Pandolfo is more useful then Haley.

I just hope that if they fire Jack, they hire someone with experience.

  75. avatar hangover3 says:

Why do you guys get upset over the losing? This is what Wang is selling you, and many still go to games. Losing hockey team, bad players, AHL coaches, one after the other. Anti fighting mandate from Wang. 30 starts a year to Dipietro that he doesnt deserve. Pretty soon we are going to see Tavares dropping the gloves every game so that Wang has a fit and trades him since he hates fighting so much. Seriously it is possible Tavares will wisen up to BS.

  76. avatar GeneF says:

after every loss they are keep saying that the effort was there and there are alot of positive signs. there are NO positive signs in the loss.
if Torrtorella was our coach he would kill Bailey in the post game interview.
Instead our coach is seeing positives. hey, coach, you didn’t pull Nabby with 4 min left? what’s wrong with you?
These morons are still getting paid millions no matter how they play.
Why Tavares has signed here is beyond me.

    Good night everyone.

  77. avatar Allen says:

We all need to boycott one home game. Wang, Garth, etc will get the picture that something drastic needs to happen asap.

  78. avatar Brian G says:

Honestly don’t go on thursday, why give Wang your money when he Doesn’t ever listen to the fans or spend money on the roster = he doesn’t care if this team lost 40 in a row….he listens to random people who call in and say don’t play kickstart my heart and Rock N Roll part 2 at games b/c it offends them…..its music Wang, every other team in the NHL uses that music….you should be worrying about bigger things, not game operations….try listening to your die-hard fans…..Fire Snow & Capuano

  79. avatar JTizzle says:

Garth Snow is the biggest loser! He can’t admit when something has failed! He’s a loser and he should be fired! It’s not Capuano’s fault! He has not been put into a situation where he can succeed! GARTH SNOW is a LOSER!!!

    • avatar since 74 says:

Your right it isn’t capuanos fault. He has to play the roster he’s dealt. They weren’t that bad after he took over last yr but that was with a much younger team full of energy. Not a bunch of 30 somethings trying to hang on to their careers. Blame Wangsnow. They created this mess. They don’t have a clue.

  80. avatar Buster says:

7 wins in a row by Rangers…means 7 loses in a row by Rangers. RANGERS WILL ALWAYS SUCK!!!!

  81. avatar caber09 says:

Fire Snow before this becomes 20 in a row again

  82. avatar Allen says:

Lets make a push to boycott a game in the next few weeks……or are we just like Garth and going to sit by and not do anything?

  83. avatar terry b says:

the fact that avery had a big game made me sick, liked haley breaking his face way better, richards goal,,that what happens when a team gets top level talent

  84. avatar Allen says:

Im calling out all Islander fans….you have no guts! You just make statements like “fire Garth”. WONT get you anywhere. Boycott a game and see if Garth and Wang can sit silently hiding after that.

    • avatar Danfromouteast says:

I agree even if you bought the ticket don’t go its a waste anyway probably more so if you go with price of food drinks etc. Don’t go and save you ticket so one day you can say this was the game I didn’t go to and that is when we as fans started to take our text back. As long as you all drink the koolaid nothing will change. Hey reasoner get off long island you suck

  85. avatar Brian G says:

Don’t show up this thursday vs. Montreal….for those that can’t help themselves make signs, shirts, bring big sheets that say Snow Must Go! send a message

    • avatar since 74 says:

Time to make a stand. Stay home. How will Wangsnow feel when the only fans in the seats are wearing montreal jerseys? And you know there will be at least 5 bus loads of montreal fans there. Let the media jump on that story.

  86. avatar Allen says:

Its time to be heard as fans……BOYCOTT home games and make fire Garth signs if you do show up. Enough of this blind loyalty, we have waited too long for this joke of a GM who sits quietly hiding. Any of you that keep buy tickets to watch this team deserve this. At least the draft party will be fun.

  87. avatar Ari From Long Island says:

Things will NEVER change until there is a new ownership in place. NEVER!

  88. avatar Brian G says:

This has to be the fastest this blog has had over 100 comments….that is how much the fan base is fed up with Management’s crap. Don’t give Wang anymore of your money! Don’t show up on Thursday, Our Management has not showed up in over 2 years!

  89. avatar giz says:

Isles played well tonight, if Bailey doesn’t make that awful pass we get 1 maybe 2 points. I’m not cray about Bailey but what kind of points do you expect him to put up centering Pandalfo n Martin. We need a big win streak or the season will be lost soon. Bailey, Comeau, Rolston, Pandalfo, Eaton, Mottou,Dp….better not be on this roster next year. Staios also got heart but slow n best years past him.

  90. avatar nightbite21 says:

This will never end until drastic measures are taken. Hate to immerse the players that try in even more of a negative atmosphere but boycott a game. December 6th or 8th are perfect choices. Tampa or Chicago. Highly doubt there is a big conglomerate of either teams fans in the area. Empty arena with 50 scattered Tampa Bay jerseys…NO Islander fans. Then we’ll really see how tight Bettman is with Wangdoodle.

  91. avatar Nick M says:

Listen as much as we like to complain about players we as fans have to see things between the lines. While watching the game in person tonight a couple of players stoodout as GARBAGE. 1st) rolston. It is absolutely rediculous how this guy is playing top 6 minutes and player play time. It’s absurd. Contract or no contract he is nothing more then a fourth liner. 2nd) moulson. Not because he doesn’t contribute but is overvalued and over rated on the first line. Nino outplaye everyone today. The kid is special. He a poor mans malkin. Hits, goes to the net AND most importantly hustles. 3rd) PA he also does not belong on top two lines. He isn’t bad. The problem is when he is put on top 2 lines it damages The team and expectations are too high. He is a valuable 3 liner.

People who played well are Comeau-he threw the body and actually has some speed.

Bailey has too High of expectations(rightfully so 9th overall) but his contract isnt indicative therefore we can cut out loses and he can BE and third line center.

    My lines would be

Nino-JT-grabner:(he hustles/steals the puck the most)
    Moulson-franz-Okposo
    Comeau-bailey-PAP
Martin-reasoner-rolston(reasoner and rolston are a waste but we have to deal with it)

Pandolfo is not a problem. He is a fourth liner who does his job. Kills penalties. Nothin more is expect. The problem with this team is players are put in the proper rolls

  92. avatar Allen says:

Lets get this boycott going…….If garth thinks signing Staos and Rolston (2 players nobody wanted) was enough then the fans need to speak up loud and boycott a game. Otherwise NOTHING will change. Lets get this on all the blogs. ****For all you fans that think “we played hard tonight”…..that was home against the rangers, we dont even come close to winning games on the road this year.

  93. avatar Onesinceforty says:

Scissons, Chyzowski, Pyatt, Kudroc, Mazei, Connolly,
O’Marra, Luongo, Dalgarno, Isbister, Lachance, McBean, Fichaud, Nillson, Lindros, and all the others! Are we really still waiting for the youth movement to bear fruit? Mix and match any you want with today’s players. Where are we going? Nowhere Fast! We have been heading there for quite some time.

Am I really looking to see the MF’n Columbus Bluejackets score? Apparently, Yes.

  94. avatar section 120 says:

Gang I’m all for firing Cappy he deserves it. However people need to realize that the no experience Doug Weight will then be the coach of this team which might even be worse. If possible.

    + JT
+ Matt martin could use a couple more of him.
    - Rolston I would much rather have hunter.
    - bailey needs to go no matter what you get back.

  95. avatar Allen says:

All talk here guys,,,,,until you boycott a game, this franchise will continue to be a joke with GUTless fans not willing to make a statement.

    • avatar Paul says:

I do not see why anyone would spend a dime on this team. If they are going to go a walk out should be organized.

  96. avatar nyc dork says:

Has anyone else noticed JT’s pregame interview, he was wearing what i think was the new isles 3rd jersey? If it was indeed the 3rd jersey, i like it. its looked simple, nice touch of grey. didnt see any orange. as far as i could see.

  97. avatar Allen says:

How many times was Brian Compton on this site saying if the Isles didnt make any MAJOR aquisitions in the off season, that it would be a Major dissappointment. Are we all just gonna keep buying tickets? I work hard for my money and until the isles commit to winning, not spending another dollar on them.

  98. avatar Ari From Long Island says:

A SERIOUS boycott has to be set up…why can’t we do this? Seriously…a game has to be picked out where basically NO ONE attends. It should be done if we really care about this team, which we all do. Let’s get it started.

  99. avatar Paul C says:

There are some very clear truths that we need to be certain about as of tonight as Islander fans; this is not speculation or rumor, this is how it is:

Wang will not be the answer to our playoff/stanley cup woes. He is NOT interested in a rebuild or a winner, nor do I believe he knows how.

Snow was and is hired as a puppet to Wang. While certain acquisitions have been beneficial he will NOT be able or allowed by Wang to put the finishing pieces in place.

Finally, the summer officially was a bust. Whatever the PR spin is, the release of role players like Konopka, Martinek, and Hillen are too much to shoulder. Plus the demotion and burial of Gillies and Haley in the minors is a direct slap in the fans face and the spirit of the team we experience have success in the latter part of last year. These players will not win us a cup, but they were key elements to success at the end of last season.

I find these points undisputeable, any argument is neglect of what is right in our face.

In summation, Wang needs to sell at this point – move on to a more appropriate business venture to his liking, Snow could be given a trial with freedom to make real decisions, and the fans need a team that will show up for the price of admission. Bottom line.

P.S. – Bailey should see the bench and ponder what he is doing in the NHL.

  100. avatar Mike says:

The best way to get the message out is to get the Canadian media involved about a fan boycott

  101. avatar RICH L says:

We have so many old guys it’s like they say about Florida, Florida is Gods waiting room for seniors, same thing with the Isles, old guys who come here to “die” their careers plainly over, and Wang is Asian he should commit hari kari and “fall on the sword.” I hope that Wang,Snow, and Cappy read these blogs so they know what we all feel about them including most of the “players” it should tear down some of their egos, but I doubt it.

  102. avatar Allen says:

Tuesday, November 29th against the Sabres.

BOYCOTT and force Garth Snow out of hiding….he had the audacity to say he thinks there is enough talent in place recently….lets all let him know we disagree and wont Waste our Money!!!!!!!!!!

  103. avatar Brian G says:

Start by not showing up on thursday…hopefully that goal by eminger seals the great defensive specialist Pandolfo’s fate and he is waived tomorrow. Pandolfo played 12:34 tonight & was hardly noticed until that goal…..

  104. avatar Allen says:

Passing out – Spread the word to the media that Isles fans have had enough and are planning a boycott……isnt everyone tired of paying year after year to be the joke of the league?

  105. avatar Ari From Long Island says:

At this point it’s not even Garth’s fault. It’s all on the owner. Wang is a nice guy…however that doesn’t translate to being a good owner! Why would he even want to keep the team now? He’s been losing millions every year. All I want from him is a plan to build a new arena and keep the team in the area. Other than that, he has to go! As soon as an arena deal to stay here is struck, it SHOULD signal the end of his reign as owner!

    • avatar Danfromouteast says:

Wang needs to get in his car go in the garage turn on the radio leave the car running then we can read the rest in the news. He is killing the islanders damn it!!!

  106. avatar 72IslesFan says:

    Nabokov to his agent:

Get me traded right fn now!

  107. avatar nyc dork says:

Doesnt matter that the isles out-shot the rags. the rags play a “force-field” around their goalie. %90 of the shots are from the out side. or at least thats their key to success.

block shots, close passing lanes, results to turnovers, tight box around the goalie, aggressive dmen on the wall = tortarela =good coach(sp?)

puck management, run and gun = losing = Capuano

  108. avatar Nick says:

I honestly can’t believe people are saying Okposo needs to go, guy has been one of our best forwards when healthy and this is the first stretch of bad play in his career. The problem right now is a lack of accountability with this organization. It’s like losing is ok with these guys

    • avatar nyc dork says:

i agree. quit bashing KO. When KO is playing with confidence, he is a dangerous player on the ice. Quit bashing the players. this game is is mental. somehow their confidence is shot.

      • avatar Paul says:

Yea, those 5 goals last year showed how dangerous he is.

      • avatar Danfromouteast says:

Hello the guy is playing like garbage. He gets paid well and plays in ny it comes with the territory so he will have to deal with it. Some players never recover from an injury. Fine don’t trade him but he needs to miss quite a few games sitting in the press box. He sucks right now.

    • avatar Paul says:

Being one of the best forwards on this team is not saying much. He is a pansy.

  109. avatar Andre says:

Whoever shows up for games please start “Garth Must Go” and “Wang must sell” chants and have signs up. This franchise is really better off in another city at this point. They have not done anything to show that they even deserve a new arena.

  110. avatar gdmike says:

I think jurcina and nino added some much needed size to the lineup. The best physical game of the year so far.

Comeau is skating and hitting the last couple of games. Hope this leads to some offense.

Like the way frans, PA, and Rolston are playing. Maybe the non camp for Rolston got him off to a slow start, but his last 4 games or so he has looked better.

The problem to me is becoming obvious. 3rd and 4th line center. Bailey and Reasoner have been bad. I always liked Reasoner, but he could be blamed on each of the 1st 2 goals tonight. For a checker it is inexcusable, especially since he has provided no offense. He would be the guy I would scratch. I can’t understand what has happened to Bailey.

Didn’t miss Eaton at all. Need another D-man desperately.

    Great job Nabby!

  111. avatar jonsson3 says:

    trade bailey now

  112. avatar Tom D in NJ says:

Well Im an idiot. Left Jersey 3:30 got back home at midnight to see another loss, the Coliseum about 65-70% Ranger fans. We are the softest team in the NHL. Pandolfo – 15 games – 0 goals 0 assists. Comeau – 13 games – 0 goals 0 assists. How can you work out in the off season, go through training camp and be this many games into the season and not make it into the box score. I really hate this team. Wang and Snow are loosers. I am very mad at myself for buying into this committment crap and wasting my money. Boycott, Im ready.

  113. avatar Randy says:

Still and all, an exciting game to watch. Tavares was amazing, twice not only swatting the puck out of the air with his stick but directing it with precision. That last effort landed the puck right in front of the net but no one else could capitalize. Parenteau looked great. Streit didn’t have his best game, muffing a couple of plays. Bailey’s absurd clearing attempt has been duly noted. Let’s bring Gillies up to kick Avery’s ass next time. I know I’m beating a dead horse, but if Konopka were here, Avery might have thought twice before jawing to Tavares after getting away with that high stick. I hate that guy. Did you see his face after he scored that goal? Makes you want to punch it hard. A-Mac got off a solid slap shot that could have tied it. Painted the corners a little bit too much though. At least it hit the post. Most shots by our defense sail way wide or high. Frustrating that I can’t watch Pre- or Post-game shows out here on lame Time Warner Center Ice. I haven’t even gotten an HD broadcast yet. I still LOVE the Islanders!

  114. avatar Danfromouteast says:

What does it tell you when even the islanders best effort can’t get them a win? It tells you they suck they can’t compete in the NHL. Wang and his boyfriend snow needs to speak to us fans. Stop trying to quiet the media when they are honest and stop lying to the season ticket holders that this is the season. Other than the crappy play of this team the next bad move is everyone still buying season tickets and package deal. STOP IT! Would you buy a car with four flats and a blown engine? Boycott boycott boycott! Maybe wang and snow will then take.it serious. Wang you are a complete moron who has no idea what hockey is about. Snow you showed you have no balls im glad you were never on any team I played on. If you don’t help the team you played for your turning your back on the team. THIS IS FROM A FORMER PLAYER. Lowlifes. I have a lot of negative nasty things to say nut don’t wanted to get banned. Think about the Russian jet that went down all those players ans coaches who will never play again and you watch these guys waste the opportunity of a life time. Wang I hope one day you lose everything and I have the chance to run in to you. Garth good luck with your sex change.

  115. avatar scott says:

    dear mr.snow
I believed in the rebuild…I saw how we were stockpiling draft picks and understand that this was the only option for the new york islanders in there current situation(arena approval). I understood that going this route would take patience and time. When I would defend your rebuild, I could even add in that you picked up matt moulson and michael grabner for nothing. Last year I really felt like it was starting to come together. I was so proud that night last year against the penguins…not because of the fights, but because that team was defending each other, standing up and making a statement! players like Konopka and Haily may not be the most skilled or even the best 3d or 4th line players, but I watched every game last year and that team as a WHOLE was starting to develop chemistry and was finding its own identity. letting these role players go has set us back yet another year. How can I believe in this rebuild, when something so painfully obvious was just overlooked. you ignored what the heartbeat and energy players brought to this team, I am disheartened and have lost all my energy in this rebuild.

    • avatar Tom D in NJ says:

Right on the money Scott….our GM ruined the chemistry and that is the main reason why were in this mess right now.

    • avatar Hishutzi Skorz says:

      Rebuild????

I was driving on Post Avenue on my way to work and passed an Atlantic City Charter bus loading with senior citizens.

I don’t know if it was my eyedrops playing a trick on me, but I could have sworn I saw Eaton, Mottau, Staios, Rolston, Reasoner and Pandolfo getting on!

    • avatar Isle Insider says:

Hey Scotty you can believe in anything, and hope for anything, but time shows all. you have to see things from the start and a little Intellect is always needed. Not just words “SHOW ME”.

  116. avatar Randy says:

All too true, Scott. They seem to have no conception of the intangibles that a player like Konopka brings to the table. They should be ashamed for letting him go.

  117. avatar nyc dork says:

Can you imagine how Striet feels without a legit D partner. How can you lets this be Garth! I can no longer trust you as the isles GM.

  118. avatar Joe says:

    Shocker another loss.

  119. avatar Anthony says:

Snow and Wang are a joke! This organization is a joke! The forever rebuild will continue forever. I don’t even know if I call this a rebuild with all these washed up old veterans taking roster spots up. They all have brought nothing to the table. They all look old slow and have nothing left. You would think with there experience the one thing they can bring is leadership and not have long losing stretches like this.So what is the point of having them on this team?Get rid of Pandolfo,Reasoner,Rolston.Replace them with Haley,Debo,Cizikas. Also,Eaton and Mattau on d and call up Wishart and Reese they cant be worse.Come out of hiding Snow and explain this mess.Stop letting this all fall on Cap.There are no more excuses. This team was building an identity last year and you ruined that. Please explain!!!!

  120. avatar Ted says:

It looks like the Islanders benched the wrong player tonight (ie.. Bailey). Actually, the way the Isles are playing it probably wouldn’t of mattered. 4 losses in a row, 1 win in the last 11 games & 0 wins on the road. And we all know what typically happens after we play the Rangers. Next game “Automatic Loss” vs. Montreal. Count on it! The Islanders are in “Lottery Team Form” for sure. I would say it’s still early, (and it is) but I realized I said the very same thing last year around this time. It’s going to be another long year of futility and frustration. Anyone know how the 2012 is shaping up? Too early to do a mock draft?

  121. avatar Dan C. says:

This is half of a team.

-JT is a legit 1st line center
-Moulson is acceptable as JT’s winger. No great but better than Crosby has generally had to work with.
-Grabner is a legit top six forward
-Nielsen is a legit 3rd lune center
-Parenteau is a good offensive player. Might not be top 6 on a deep team, but he is acceptable and generally completely underrated in this board.
-Streit is a legit top 2 defenseman.
-AMac and Hamonic are legit top 6 defensemen
-Nabokov and Montoya are a solid goalie tandem.
-Matt Martin is a good 4th liner.

The rest of this team is BAD, BAD, BAD! Just a toxic mix of busted prospects and over-the-hill vets with one foot out the door of their playing career.

But the most troubling aspect of this team is the inability of management to make moves at any level. The GM is unwilling or incapable to make trades, sign free agents or even shuttle players back and forth to the AHL. The coach needs a 6 game losing streak to even juggle the lines. Say what you want about Torts, but he wouldn’t stand for 11 minutes of the way this team has been playing, let alone 11 games. The Blues didn’t like the way their team looked and made a coaching change and a trade BEFORE their season went down the drain. The Isles will inevitably make those moves, but it will be after there is any hope for this season. Why is that?

  122. avatar Nick M says:

I’m already looking forward to next season. Strome has 20 points in13 games. 11 goals 9 assists.

    Moulson-JT-nino
    Grabner-strome-Okposo

Pushing for spots-ullstrom,Comeau,nielsen,bailey,Rakshani,dibo,Martin, cizikas, Haley, gillies, collition.

    • avatar Paul says:

So what, let me know when he does it at NHL level, and it really will not matter because Snow will not surround him with the proper vet supports he needs to succeed. This team will always be a loser with control freak Wang in charge.

  123. avatar nyc dork says:

Streit is a 50-60 point player if he had a legit #2 as a parter.
Webber is is arguably the best dman in the league but he wouldn’t do better without his partner Sutter.

    Streit is a #1

  124. avatar caber09 says:

Kevin…When does Snow get fired, the Blues were struggling and brought in a real NHL coach…please dont say Wang wants stability or stability is good…cause 6 years of regression and last place quality hockey is not stability.

  125. avatar Nick M says:

Islanders should offer anyone not named JT nino strome grabner hamonic for suter

  126. avatar jisles says:

I just posted this comment on the islanders facebook page. Hope you like.

    Dear Mr. Wang,

I attended tonight’s Islander-Ranger game and I was embarrassed.Ranger fans were in attendance by an overwhelming majority. They took over the coliseum tonight and made it their home. The game may as well been played at MSG. I am appalled and it is disgraceful. Tonight’s game is symbolic of how far we have fallen. To be fair, you saved the franchise ten years ago when no one wanted it. You have done everything possible to get a new arena and I applaud you. However, Your management style isn’t working. Leadership starts from the top.If the captain of the ship makes decisions and the ship drifts off course you get a division among the ranks and you have a mutiny. Mr. Wang, you have a mutiny on your hands evidenced by tonight’s debacle. Your tenure as owner is a failure and I implore you to relieve yourself of command. Put this team up for sale or at least hire a President to run hockey ops. Either way it is time you stepped aside.
    Jim

    Coram.

  127. avatar Ari From Long Island says:

well…season’s over. Time to look forward to the draft!!! Yakupov or Murray! What a sad joke of a franchise!!!

  128. avatar Bean322 says:

Boycott! who in their right mind is still going to these games????

  129. avatar TM says:

Bailey symbolizes this pathetic organization as he’s a lazy LOSER.

Capuano is just happy to be there.

    Wang doesn’t care.

    Nassau politicians don’t care.

Nothing changes until NYI leaves Nassau and goes to Queens or Brooklyn and spends money to win.

  130. why do we continue to let Bailey be our problem?? he’s made of nothing but softness. how’s his confidence going to be after this one? just ship him out of here, if he ends up blossoming somewhere else who cares.

it’s not like snow is milbury, where there’s a long history of shipping guys out before they hit their stride. he’s gotten rid of a lot of garbage for the most part, get rid of more.

i hope this scratch did KO well.
I’ve totally had it with Reasoner. He offers this team zero and I couldn’t have been more wrong being so optimistic and thinking he was an upgrade from ZK.

my biggest problem is this – last year when we were losing, we just didn’t have the team. we sucked and that was that.

this year, some of the guys who can contribute are just in bridgeport. these are guys that are proven difference makers, whether it be down there currently or up with the big club last year. the team performed better whether you want to call it garbage time or not. this situation can’t get much worse, i see no harm in calling a few guys up and sending those deserved down – or flat out getting rid of them…reasoner, pandolfo….

it’s making me sick, i’m starting to believe it’s stubborn management, but the season really is slipping away as the schedule just gets worse and worse.

  131. avatar Ari From Long Island says:

No matter what happens with Bailey’s career, I will never blame Bailey for it. He was going to be a good player before this franchise turned him into what he has currently become. May he one day find success. Hopefully with the Islanders, but if not, somewhere else.

    • avatar The Haley Hammer says:

The only thing wrong with bailey is his lack of heart. Plays like he could care less.

      • avatar Dan C. says:

        Please.

Bailey sucks. It has little to do with how he was handled. The main mistake the Isles made was drafting him in the first place. No one else in the entire sport of hockey would have traded down from 5th overall to take a player rated 12th overall that many projected had the upside of a 3rd line center.

    Lets Go Isles….Lets Go Islanders!

  133. avatar Mike P says:

Oh Bulls**t, boycotting will do NOTHING !!!! We will all be watching thursday regardless. We are stuck in a bad situation being passionate fans of this team. Someday, somehow, someway, things will turn. As of right now all I can say is that the game was even til that atrocious turnover by Bailey. But lets face facts. This is IT, no real trades are coming, no real moves are coming, no words from Garth or Wang. Another season down the tubes.

  134. avatar NYISLES001 says:

They will draft Yakapov or the other Russian Phenon (at #2) and by the time everyone matures, they will win a cup in an another city in 2015 or 2016.

  136. avatar Battfist says:

Come on now. The kid played a good game… give him a break.

Better effort yes…But this team still lost.

  137. avatar JTizzle91 says:

Coming from a Jets fan! Just End The Season!!!

  138. avatar jeff w says:

Looks like the season is slipping away and sadly I don’t think anything that is said or done to snow or Wang will matter. Boycott may help, but do you think the league will notice or care that 4000 showed up instead of 7000? It’s not Toronto in LI! Its cheaper for Wang to ride out the storm till he gets the property deal he is waiting for or sells out to another city. After the referendum if the islanders get no fans for 4 years then it looks as if we don’t care and perhaps Bettman will let him move. Garth and Cappy know their careers are over when their time on the island is over and they are enjoying the show while it lasts. Remember when snow shook like a leaf during the rookie game speech? That said it all..

  139. avatar Ted says:

You know when it was revealed that the Devils were trash talking Cappy during the game last year, I admit it really got me annoyed. But now, all I do is look at his fat face behind the bench game after game, looking like 20 lbs of crap stuffed in a 5 lb bag (Jack, ever hear of the salad bar?) and to me, his mug underscores this total bush league organization.

And another thing, Snow is not stupid. He KNOWS this team isn’t tough enough. IF in fact Charles is telling him not to keep tough players, SHAME ON HIM FOR GOING ALONG WITH IT. Find your courage, NUT UP AND DO WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.

Garth, have some freaking respect for yourself man, you really want this team to go down this way AGAIN???

  140. avatar Scoty says:

Bailey… Really… Really…. what is he doing playing in the NHL…. Not the first time this season he has made an amazing play…for the opposing team…FFS… Unreal.

  141. avatar Gene says:

I gottta put my 2 cents in here. I did think they were going to compete for a playoff spot. Boy was I wrong! You must build through the draft and then plug holes with good veterans not 4th line or aging d-men. I am a St. John’s graduate. I saw the program go down hill when Head coaches Roberts and Jarvis could not recruit anyone. No one wanted to play in NYC. That all I heard and I thought the tide had shifted. Now SJU bring a guy in from Calif. who Is a recruiting genies and SJU had one of the best signing classes in College hoops. Why? Because people like coach Lavin and want to play for him. I know our building is old but if we had a dynamic owner, GM and Coach I am sure more FA would want to play here. Don’t blame the building it’s the 3 fore mentioned.

  142. avatar Rob says:

I think I read in this article that PA Parentau is the best islanders puck carrying offenseman. Is that so? Um… Do you still leave milk and cookies out for Santa Clause? PA is not only one of the worst puck moving forwards on the team, but also in the NHL. Lets state the facts:
    1) Anything more than him getting sneezed on will knock him off of the puck.
    2) He looses all of his battles in the corners, and looks like a ballerena doing so.
    3) He cant accept a pass for his life.
4)Most importantly, watch what he does every time, once he gains the blue line with the puck… He throws the same horrible deak move and either A) gets laid out, B) passes the puck to a man that isnt there or C) dumps it into the corner.
    5) ANYONE including Evgeni Nabakov can play on a line with Mat Moulson and JT… They, and they alone made him look good.

  143. avatar hoser14 says:

I DON’T WANT TO HEAR HOW WELL THEY “PLAYED” -THEY LOST AGAIN!!!!

I have seen this sorry act too many times over the last 20 years. Last year it was all the injuries and this season is too many healthy passengers. The results are the same.

Sports are a result oriented profession and asking “paying” fans to accept long term losing will result in a apathetic and non-paying fan base. Wong and Snow are giving “paying” fan a good reason to stay home and not waste their hard earned money on such a poor product put out by an owner who is more interested in not losing money than winning games.

This fish is rotting from the head right on down to the healthy scratches. I’m finding hard not to distinguished Charles Wong from Fred Wilponzi. It’s one thing to be cheap or incompetent, but both! Boo! Hiss!

  144. avatar scott says:

if you have been watching this team the last few years, hate to say it but get ready for a freefall. all signs are there! losing 5 or 6 in a row then for that 1 game put in a solid effort but still come up short. this could get ugly. how many coaches do we have to blame, before we realize the problem runs much deeper.

  145. avatar Winning says:

If they werent so terrible on paper we could hope this is just a slump but they are terrible on paper and most games look like a ahl team. This team would lose to the ziggy palffy islanders that never made the playoffs.

  146. avatar The New Isles GM says:

I decided to stop going to games after we did not renew Jankowski and brought in Konopka, Eaton, Jurcina and Motteau all in the same summer. That to me was the end of the rebuild. Period. Oh did I mention we didn’t renew Trot’s contract either. Can’t blame that one on DP or Bailey. Starts at the top. STOP PAYING WANG FOR THIS PRODUCT!

  147. avatar caber09 says:

Hey Kevin and everyone guess what…espn is reporting that Crappy is on the hot seat…big surprise….why not Snow…Kevin get to the bottom of this please….Is Snow using Marc Crawford his supposed buddy as his last ditch effort to beg Wang for one more change to hire “this is my coach, part 3″ ?

  148. avatar Holland says:

I was at the game. I thought the Isles played a home game, not the Rangers. Can anyone tell me why at least half of the audience wore blue shirts? You guys say Wang should invest, but for who? Maybe the Isles only have 8000 fans, where is the rest on nights like these??

  149. avatar bcarey says:

Mottau played literally the worst game by a Dman I’ve ever watched in person.

  150. avatar ed says:

If Capuano gets fired before Snow, I will never attend another Islanders game until Wang is out. Cap won with a bunch of young idiots last year and Snow brought in the retirement crowd and 3 goalie circus this year. Snow has been and always will be the worst GM in hockey. Hands down. Doing the same thing year after year and expecting a different result is laughable. Where is the commissioner for all of this crap? they reject Jim Ballsie from buying in the league but they love Wang??

  151. avatar Hollywood says:

Season down the tubes before Thanksgiving. I have respect for Wang and Snow but until something changes with this lineup which is unlikely then I just have to give up. This fucking team needs a star winger and more than one Dman. Streit is not a top 2 Dman. I know he’s still getting in shape from missing a year but it’s just hard to watch him in his own zone. I still think Baily will be good but he needs better players to play with. I’m tired of Reasnor, Pandolfo, Rolston, Eaton and Motteu. It’s also time to play Montoya for 20 games straight!!!!!!!!

  152. avatar exSection307 says:

    It must be the building.

  153. avatar Brian G says:

Per DarrenDreger: Leafs were offered a player and 2nd round pick today from undisclosed team for Defenseman Cody Franson.

Maybe its was Isles, Is Franson any good , I know he was on Nashville last year

  154. avatar volmeeezy says:

I don’t understand how “fans” can possibly blame the refs, or the building , or bad luck for the continued losing. At some point the players on the ice have to get the job done, plain and simple. Bailey should be to blame, because a play like that is inexcusable no matter what level of hockey, yet alone the NHL in a huge rivalry game. If Cappy had some balls, Bailey is scratched on Thursday. As for the rest of the game, is Lundfairy prob the best goalie in the league? Yeh. But someone has to step up and bury the fckin puck. Stop making excuses for the team and hold the players accountable, cause at the end of the day, they are the ones we are stuck with whether we like it or not. Lets go isles

  155. avatar moonshine says:

last night the islanders beat themselves. the last two goals were gifts, preventable with a proper defensive setup. imo that’s why people are so ticked off.
the ‘hot’ rangers came into town and spent much of the game diving to block shots in front of their goalie. on offense they showed the same old limits. couldn’t score on a long two-man advantage.
as for ‘last year the islanders had been improving,’ that’s not really true. they had a decent six weeks, but by season’s end actually were back to crap (although they were using rookie d-men on one-game contracts). this isn’t a playoff team, and if any real improvement starts to happen, it’ll be welcome news.
niederreiter should stay with the team. as long as a kid looks ready physically, i have no problem with him learning at the nhl level. the league has several very young players/rookies.

  156. avatar booten says:

    this team is terrible.

  157. avatar Brian G says:

Bailey should be Scratched for thursday, Pandolfo should be on waivers today…Okposo & Cizikas should play on thursday…This isn’t hard Snow. Players should play on merit

  158. avatar Money Making Mike says:

    please sell the team wang…..PLEASE

  159. avatar Hector Marini says:

I think it’s better to sell out a game and pay absolutely NO attention to the on ice product.
The whole game should consists of “Snow must go” and “Please sell Charles”
Let the players know they’re not the reason we don’t show up, it’s management!
If that doesn’t wake them up start picketing their homes!!

  160. avatar caber09 says:

Cappy does not control the roster movement…as evidence by his recent quotes, so its up to Snow to bench his boy Bailey and the rest of the over the hill guys he brought in

  161. avatar Jim says:

I remember back in the day. Bob Nystrom was not playing well and Arbour benched him. The next game, which happened to be against the Rangers, he came out flying. Banging bodies everywhere. You could tell just from the way he was warming up that he couldn’t wait to get back into a game. He was like a caged tiger that was just set free.

I don’t want to compare Nystrom to Okposo but I am curious to see how Okposo reacts when he’s reinserted into the lineup. It will say alot about his character.

  162. avatar Hector Marini says:

I just read that Snow said since they aren’t winning he is going to have a fire sale and start a new rebuild.

  163. avatar Gene F says:

the only reason the Isles won 1 game out of the last 12 was Washington’s goalie – Voukun. he was terrible and that’s why Isles won. otherwise it would be zero victories

  164. Up to this point I’ve been a believer in the Snow rebuild process, but for him to assemble such a pathetic defense of “has beens” is starting to make me question his ability to lead the team in the right direction. This continual year-in and year-out losing is getting REAL OLD, changing the channel is becoming a nightly process.

  165. avatar Ray Kaats says:

Having watched the Isles from the beginning, I want to give kudos to those of you who never saw the great team or even the 92-93 team. The rest of us at least have memories. For you guys to stick with the Isles after watching the last 20 years, you really deserve praise. It is absolutely incredible how loyal you guys are and for the record Charles Wang doesn’t deserve you.

As for me I have officially given up on the Isles. Oh I’ll still root for them but I no longer have any hope that this team will be become successful. I have just one reason for feeling this way….THIS TEAM CANNOT WIN UNDER THE OWNERSHIP OF CHARLES WANG.

Wang micromanages everything. He knows nil about hockey yet has his fingerprints on every move the Islanders make. Incredibly he micromanaged CA the same way and was fond of telling stockholders that “Nothing happens here (CA) that I don’t know about.”, yet knew nothing of the law breaking moves of his protege’-partner Sanjay Kumar & others. So, instead of being in prison. where might very well belong, he now micromanages the New York Islanders into oblivion.

Just how smart is Wang? He is computer smart so smart that he made a billion bucks & it seems smart enough not to be sent to prison. However, every other thing he tries has been a disaster. He tried to develop a project in Plainview=failure, another project in Oyster Bay failed, the Lighthouse failed, his referendum failed and the his ownership of the New York Islanders is the joke of the hockey world.

I wish you guys well and hope you get your just reward for you outstanding loyalty.

Me? I’ll just watch with the hopelessness of knowing that Charles Wang owns the Islanders.

  166. avatar Nick M says:

Our forwards are fine. They are playing well WHILE having to act like defensemen and pick up the liabilities created by our D. Yes, some forwards need to improve -bailey-Okposo but the problem is the D. It’s not the number of goals “allowed” but also the number of goals they don’t “allow” by holding our offense back. If the defense wasnt so bad and we could score a couple of goals 1 or two a game we could have better outcomes and not point fingers at the struggling few forwards that makes it irrelevant. It’s a Chain reaction…bad goaltending= bad D= bad transitioning=bad offensive pressure. Goaltending isn’t the islanders issue. It just starts with the old washed up plays -Mottau,staios,eaton..jurcina wouldn’t look so bad if he had a better partner…Hillen, Reese, and any other AHL player like last year helped him out. So the problem is Mottau, staios, eaton

  167. avatar MikeInNYC says:

I really don’t see the point in playing reasoner and pandolfo. It seems that every time a big power play goal is given up it’s, for some retarded reason, those fossils out on the ice.

Anyone building a hockey team should know that if you’re going to employ several old farts on your 23 man roster, they need to have SOMETHING that makes thier icetime worthwhile. At least Rolston has a good shot and plays point on the PP. He also scores occasionally.

Pandolfo has no speed, no skill, and no hockey sense anymore. You cannot tell me that its not worth bringing up a guy like DiBennedetto or Cizikas, who would at the very least skate their asses off. Pandolfo looks like he needs a wheelchair out there.

  168. avatar gdmike says:

    Rob,
Please stop the parenteau bashing. He is one of the few Isles who is putting up points virtually every night. Now he is doing it without JT. Frans has started contributing offensively since PA was put on his line. You couldn’t be more wrong. Focus on this teams real problems, not PA.

  169. avatar Tony44 says:

Just trade Nabby already, his value is not going to dramatically go up regardless of how well he plays. If he gets hurt we lose a draft pick.
Only ones I see playing with fire consistently are JT, Martin, & Grabner. Everyone else has been lukewarm to ice cold.
I’m beginning to think 21 & 12 are gonna be busts and nothing more than 3rd or 4th liners.
Also, think this team is seriously missing a guy with an edge. Not talking about a heart fighter like Martin. I mean a nasty, preferably defenseman, whose gonna make opposing forwards look around for him before they look around for the puck.
Lastly, the system/scheme sucks. We constantly have 5 guys within 12 feet of the net when the puck is down low. This is preventing any sort of breakout other than dump and chase. Which we’re not that good at anyway.

  170. avatar isles71 says:

Sure…go boycott a game. Especially Thurs when the Habs are in town. So instead of 27 buses, they’ll bring 40 and have the place to themselves!!! Wake up, Garth ain’t going nowhere with Wang as the owner. Puppet or Puppet-Master have done a job of selling us again the promise of patience and youth. Fact is we’re one of the oldest teams and it now appears that many of our youths’ suck! Bailey, KO are 4th liners, Comeau no goals as well as Hamonic. Hell our BEST player has been Matt Martin who has the LEAST amount of TOI than anyone…Sad. Now just waiting for Montoya to ask for trade, he has every right. We suck so bad it makes me sick. 40 years of this team and never thought it would come to this!

  171. avatar Brian G says:

I hope the Isles didn’t offer a 2nd rd pick & player for Cody Franson, he is softer than Jurcina & Eaton

  172. avatar JOE M FROM NC says:

someone is going to take a run at JT soon and the Isles will do nothing about it! Isles are the softest team in the NHL. They are a joke. Hockey is usually a sport you can watch even when your team sucks (IE watching Isles last year)but it is hard to watch them already and it’s not even thanksgiving!

  173. avatar PA ISlanders says:

Was is just me or did streit look lathargic and sloppy out there, he messed up at least a dozen passes either from him or to him?

  174. avatar JGuns says:

I can’t take the Isles crap anymore. Wang is such an a-hole.

  175. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

I am starting to think that we have become do dependant on our prospects that our free agent signings have been a disaster. When ZK has been our best signing and we still yielded a lottery pick the next season that is a problem. There are plenty of prospects in the pipeline but unless we develop them property the rebuild will be all for naught. We rely way too much on guys who should be background players – Bailey,KO, Comeau, MacDonald, Hamonic, etc.

I don’t want to hear management made attempts to sign the right guys but if it takes overpaying one or two guys to make sure our prospects needs to be developed the right way then so be it.

The Rangers aren’t soley relying on Duby and Callahan and their D men to lead their team. They have surrounded them with players who can lead till the young guys get their turn.

    • avatar JGuns says:

Nobody will ever sign with them though. Everyone sees them as a joke with no arena. The only people who will sign with them are veterans who are too old or crappy to play anywhere else.

      • avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

Fair enough but I just don’t think it is the arena. I think it comes from Wang owning the team and all of the hiccups he has encountered from day 1. At this point I would much rather the days of Yashin, Peca, Aucoin, Hamrlik,Parish, etc. and making the playoffs as a low seed and trying to add a piece or two each year rather than the mess that we currently have.

        • avatar JGuns says:

Absolutely, those days the team was a solid playoff contender every year. And yeah, Wang is trash. He doesn’t know how to own a hockey team. But I think the building is a big issue. What player wants to come to a team where the ceiling in the arena leaks when it rains? The team has just become such an embarrassment. Their goalie situation is a mess. Stick with one guy! even two if you must, but what the hell? They have 3 guys who could be called their “starter”. I’m sick of this crap. Capuano needs to coach with some fire. After the loss to Colorado he has the nerve to talk about the positives that came from the game. Is he freaking kidding? Do what Boudreau did and make their next practice a living hell. I’m ripping out my hair right now haha

  176. avatar Jersey Steve says:

Too much of too old, too slow, and too soft.

  177. avatar ed says:

Also, the Rangers have an undersized captain that is willing to fight and throw checks. Okposo should take note considering he is much bigger than Callahan

  178. avatar Anth says:

I know KO has not had a lot of production but he shows up every game and plays hard…. my opinion Bailey should have sat! Just my opinion….. And when will Montoya start? The teams record is better when he is in net! Not that Nabby was horrible but just sometimes a team plays better with a different goalie in net!

    • avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

I agree with you regarding Montoya but totally disagree regarding KO playing hard every game. I feel like KO thinks he is leading by example but I don’t think he is. He usually shys away from scrums and will be the last guy to come in and try to clear the crease after the whistle. Things like that probably go a long way with teammates. I never played competitive hockey outside a few deck leagues. But the goalie is the man and should never be messed with. KO needs to get his nose dirty in the D zone and needs to drive to the net in the O zone. He is way too big to be playing on the perimiter.

    • avatar The Haley Hammer says:

I will agree ko plays hard, that being said he is a terrible skater and not getting any better.

  179. avatar Cold Spring Harbor says:

What are those giant generators outside the building, is that what it takes to make our ice this season? Tired of attending “home” games where the opposition fans swamp the locals. Thursday will be 35% Montreal fans but at least that is less than last night’s 65% Rangers fans. Thank goodness for Columbus or we be dead last.

    • avatar JGuns says:

I agree, it’s absurd. I was at the capitals game and when Ward scored the first goal it was overwhelming how loud the place god with Capitals fans in their stupid no. 8 jersies. I’m sick of the team.

  180. avatar fFedUp says:

You can put “LipStick on the Pig”
However it is still a PIG!

    “WANG MUUST SELL!!!!!!”
    “SNOW MUST GO!!!!!!!!!”

  181. avatar Money Making Mike says:

After only 15 games we are already in last place. Only one freakin team is worst in the whole league. 15 freakin games.

  182. avatar Stumpy32 says:

I’m trying to figure out the last time I was so demoralized leaving the Coliseum. Beyond the fact that it might very well have been 75/25 Rangers fans, hearing how hard we played makes me sick. Every damned year. EVERY DAMNED YEAR! We ran around in our own end for the first period (used to seeing that). We’re taking the game to them, but have no finishers that can hit the net in the second so we score only once (used to seeing that too). We’re down in the third, and don’t have the ability to breakthrough and score, so the more-skilled opponent does and scores the winning goal (seen that plenty too). It’s the same script, different cast. It just doesn’t matter. I’m tired of hurting so much watching a team that’s management doesn’t care about putting a winning product onto the ice. It’s easy to say that “if they don’t care, I won’t care.” But we all know its not that simple. I bleed for this freaking team. The Islanders are in my mind far too much, and they’re like a drug. The rare instances of great moments over the 25 years or so I’ve been a die-hard sit with you, and you know how amazing it could be here. Even if you know in your heart of hearts it will never again be that way, you want so badly for it to be great here. I left the Coliseum last night, saying to myself that I need a break from this franchise for a bit – if only for a couple of weeks, maybe a month, I don’t know. But sadly, for my own sanity and well-being, I’ll be parked in front of the TV tomorrow night to watch them lose again. It’s a never-ending cycle here. It’s just unfair. I don’t know what we all did to deserve this. If I could get the Isles out of my head and out of my life, I really think I’d be happier in the long run. But it just won’t happen.

  183. avatar fFedUp says:

Nobody but Nobody likes a LOSER Period!
This is why Under Charles Wang they keep lossing fans and Nassau County Tax payers do NOT care about the Islanders.

  184. avatar JGuns says:

I’m starting to think the team is actually hopeless. I thought this season would be different, I really wanted to believe that, but it’s the same old bull. I can’t see anything happening to change this. I don’t get it, how can a team be run so poorly? I’m ashamed when someone asks me what team I am a fan of.

  185. wwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!! you guys are all a bunch of babies

  186. avatar Anthony says:

Also enough with the 3 goalie system. It does not work.We need to roll with one goalie and just ride him.Trade Nabokov now for anything before its too late.Turco is out there and soon other goalies will be available. Also it prevents us from carrying an extra body.Dont want to hear about players not wanting to come here because of the arena. There was a kid who we are all familiar with by the name of Nystrom who was released early on. He is exactly the type of kid we need on this team ,grit, young and can play.We didnt even think of offering him a contract. He is playing well for the Stars now. Im sure he would have signed in a second and the fans would have loved it.But that would have been too easy for these clowns.Keep bringing in these washed up vets who are way past there prime and are a waste of space and roster spot.Speak up Snow and Wang and address your fans!!!

  187. avatar JGuns says:

They need everybody to play with the intensity that Martin is playing with.

  188. avatar Brett says:

I’m getting real tired of this crap. I won’t ever call the Islanders “good” again until they’re CONTENDING in the playoffs. I’m so tired of hearing about how good the Atlantic Division is this year, the Islanders might as well not even exist. I had a friend visit from LA last year who’s a Kings fan, he didn’t even know the Islanders were a team. At this point, they might as well not be. They’re a joke, which in turn, makes all us loyal fans jokes. I swear, they go out of their way to be in the basement of the NHL. I can’t even go to other places in the US and wear Islanders gear without someone mouthing off to me about what I’m doing wearing it. I’m so fed up, this has to change NOW. No more rebuild, no more “investing in the future.” FAILURE is our future, plain and simple. I hate that I was born in ’87, I’ll never get to know what it’s like to be a fan of an Islanders team that has any shred of respect.

  189. avatar Steve says:

Just out of curiosity, if Wang must go, who else is going to own this team, absorb $20M+ annual losses and guarantee the team stay on Long Island? Are any of these commenters billionaire philanthropists?

Look I agree that the hockey ops is a mess but let’s not confuse our frustration with Wang’s intent, which has always been to keep the Islanders here. Does he need to stop acting like Al Davis and hire a real front office? Absolutely.

But NEVER would I chant Wang must go. It is because of Wang that the Islanders are still here at all.

    • avatar Mark says:

At least with a different owner there would be a chance for future success on the ice, which would mean there is a chance that the losses would go away.

      • avatar Hector Marini says:

You’re funny Steve! You REALLY believe the annual loses line? Everyone shows red at the end of the year because it’s a tax write off.
He gets $30 million a year from TV rights. To run the team and all other expenses costs about another $30 million. Between marketing, concessions, parking, apparel ect. the worst case scenario is he’s breaking even.

        • avatar Steve says:

Thanks Hector! And yes, I 100% believe the Islanders take losses annually — they didn’t control concessions and parking revenue under the terms of their SMG lease. In addition the team has league average lows.

And again, to my earlier point, who is out there to a) buy this team, b) keep them on Long Island?

And look I don’t want to be a Wang apologist because I do believe he’s done little to help his own situation. I think he’s been a horrible judge of talent, particularly in the front office and his blind loyalty is infuriating. But he has kept the Isles in Nassau over a period of time during which we all thought they could have folded…

  190. avatar FireSnow says:

Totally agree with you Anthony Nystrom has like 5 goals plays a good defensive game and unlike the scrubs we got can score, i believe he has atleast 5 goals to this point. Also couldnt imagine him not putting a better effort than probably 95% of thuis team. I think he would have been great in the lockerroom and would settle for this no effort garbage we have seen for the better part of the last 5 or so years. Comeau needs to be shown the door, 13 games no points? You have to be kidding me! This team STINKS! Fire Snow, Sell Wong!!!

  191. Even the lowest paid player on this roster makes roughly $400.00 per minute of playing time. You telling me these kids cant work their asses off for the 15 minutes a night they are called upon!?! These guys have balls calling themselves pros!

  192. avatar FireSnow says:

The way this country is going with the class warfare and the increasingly filthy rich people im sure someone out there might have a better idea. Make no mistake this isnt about the Isles for Wonger its about more money and more real estate. Otherwise he would have a new Colisium already. Would have been built years ago and we would have already signed all these free agents everyone talks about not wanting to come here because of the colisium and we would be on the road to a Stanly Cup. But its NOT really just about building a new arena. That Arena in Brookly went through as fast as Lightning!! Lets Be real!

    • avatar nyc dork says:

I noticed this myself. Wang wants to own the new arena not just play in one. Word on the street has it that Wang would not profit from just playing in a new area. Anyhow, if he really truly cared about his team he would have been playing in a new arena by now. He is a real estate person first, team owner second.
He seems stubborn and wont budge till he finds a way to own a new arena. Well Mr wang, if you really want to own a new arena, you can, just don’t involved any tax payers money, and your wish will come true. Otherwise, please sell because you causing distractions.

  193. avatar JGuns says:

The problem is that the management reinforces the teams bad work ethic. After the Colorado collapse, Cap had the nerve to talk about positives from the game. What kind of crap is that? Fire his ass.

  194. avatar Mark says:

There are dozens of stars in this league past and present comparable to Bailey’s ability who reached their potential due to the proper coaching and environment. Most of those players would have ended up like Bailey had they been here as well.

Just because there are a few exceptions (very few) who don’t lose all confidence and actually play well here doesn’t change the fact that there is a long line of “busts” who floundered in this environment. They weren’t all bad draft picks. Bailey may have been picked too high but he was still a legitimate mid-first round pick in a draft rich in talent.

I pity anyone drafted by this team under its current owner.

  195. avatar Nick M says:

November 29th. Buffalo sabres. Boycott! Spread the word

  196. avatar rr054 says:

There is good news and there is bad news.

The good news is we are on our way to another top 5 pick.

The bad news is we are on our way to another top 5 pick and Garth Snow gets to make it.

Just how much longer until Mt Wang wakes up and throws his dead azz out of this job. Replace a Neil Smith, who was totally against signing DP to a 15 year deal and looks like a genius, with a former goaltender with no experience is a failed experiment.

  197. avatar Erika says:

The Stuborness of Mr. Wang and Snow just boggle the mind. This team is spinning into a dark hole because they have no guidance. Wang knows nothing about running an N.H.L team. I would have hoped he could learn on the job and get better, after all, we all appreciated him buying the team.
Snow is a shrewd G.M. and has picked up a few really good players for nothing (Moulson, Grabs). That is his forte, and that alone. The fact that he cannot acquire a decent player through trade or Free agency is an epic fail. He either does not have what it takes to be a G.M., since this is the most important aspect of the job, or he is perceived as a laughing stock around hockey circles. Either aspect requires a change before we will ever see an improvement on the ice. Either Wang sells the team or puts his ego aside and hires proven hockey minds to run the show, or Garth steps down for showing 0 improvement, and plenty of failures during his tenure. The damage has been done. All Islander fans want to stop the bleeding. They need to hire top notch P.R. people just to change the image of this once very proud and very successful team. Only then will we be able to ice an N.H.L. calibur team that can compete every night.
Last night was the first time in 20 yrs I did not watch or tape the game. I am beyond despair at what is happening to my Islanders. I just can’t take that empty sadness before I go to sleep any more!

  198. avatar Whaaaaaaaaaaaat says:

Wow people are really pissed, but I guess it’s justified seeing as they lost 23-0

  199. avatar Erika says:

Oh, and one more thing…..Wong would not be losing all the money he is claiming if he would ice a winning team. Somehow, with all the wheeling and dealing, that aspect seems to escape him!

  200. avatar Kool Aid says:

I will personally not go to anymore games untill they fire, trade, waive someone, call up haley and gillies, or turn around and win 25 games in a row starting tommorrow.

  201. avatar gdmike says:

I don’t get losing a guy like hillen who could skate well, join the play offensively and despite his size threw some nice hits and hip checks. Would be a nice up grade over Mottau or Eaton.
Agree with the Nystrom comments. He is a guy who understands his role, comes to work every night and contributes offensively. Would be a nice upgrade over Pandolfo.
The building did not cause us to lose out on guys like Fleischmann or Versteeg. Would be a nice upgrade over Rolston or Reasoner.
All these players mentioned are younger, faster, work harder and contribute on both ends of the ice and none of them would break the bank or reject coming here because of the building.

  202. avatar The Sick one Six says:

You all got it wrong the reason Bailey is still in the lineup is DP. He is the one pushing for it. With Bailey out there everyone forgets how bad he is for this orginization! And people lets call spade a spade, you need role players…Reasoner is a good face off man, use him for it. Rolston has a cannon of a shot, use him at the point on the power play (2nd unit). Okposo is very strong on the puck, use him to retreive the dumped in puck. Comeau is a good skater, can provide energy and has a good shot, let him play that way… Pandolfo, eaton and mottau need to go! We are better off with kids giving 100% to stay in this league. Bailey send him down or trade him to the west, he might actually be worth something there. (addition by subtraction). Trade DP to Dump contract and Keep Montoya and Nabby!!!!

  203. avatar IslanderFAN says:

Funny when i see comment “Wang must go” New flash for all of you….Wang go the Isles are moving out of New York!!!

    • avatar CM says:

That’s fine. Better to have a legacy rather than cheering for this embarassment. How is following this team fun? Would you keep someting around if it was dysfunctional?

Time for Wang to sell even if the risk is movng the team out of NY.

  204. avatar jisles says:

News Flash. The team is going nowhere! they will be playing in nassau county you can bet on it. They have to play here another 4 years per the lease. So politicians will never put their political capital into something that doesnt need to be done. They have 4 years and there will be an arena deal at 12/31/14 11:59 pm. So stop letting Wang scare you that if he sells the team is gone. It is scare tactics and I am sick of it. Sell the team WAng.

    • avatar Danfromouteast says:

wang may mean something in his culture but “wang” means something all together different in N. America and thats just what he is… his name

  205. avatar The Sick one Six says:

Move the Isles to Brooklyn to the new arena! You will actually pick up a corp fan base! Lets face it Rangers sell out because of location. All of the lower seats are company owned seats. They dont give away two for one seats and still sell out. Location location location! The really islander fans from LI will make a few games a year just like i do from brooklyn. Yes, you will have different and probably more season ticket holders (including companys that can’t get rangers tickets) but who cares. Fans will be fans if you keep them in the same locality…move them to Kansas City and “I’M OUT!!!”

  206. avatar Danfromouteast says:

can we demand wang be tested for all types of retardation and snows estrogen checked please

  207. avatar The Sick one Six says:

Good Point jisles! There is no sense ergencey…we will have to wait. However, I can still how for the move to brooklyn and a new owner. The GM can stay – i don’t think Garth is so bad i just think he is Wang’s fall guy/front man. Do you think he would have wanted to pull the trigger on Gaborik or Richards? the team starts and dies with Wang!

  208. avatar BanGarth says:

Is Garth even still the GM ? What does he do all day ? He doesnt address media , make moves or anything else that real GM’s do. I give him credit , he must be the best salesman on the planet to keep his job.
In regards to Martin “especially a guy who is responsible for about 20% of their hits.”
I would put that number at 80% this is the softest team i have ever watched play hockey.

  209. avatar Kool Aid says:

Oh and one more thing for all you “its the building people”
    IT is ALL WaNGS FAULT!
-if he had not kept this a crappy franchise for so long and kept us a competative team we would have our new building alreaDY. He kepth this team so bad many people especially the casual islander fan forgot about them and dint care. If he had kept them competative-they would be fighting every year for playoffs maybe a cup, this would of had people-residents up in arms that they could possibly lose their beloved islanders and would have pressured the county into new building.
So that is why its ALL WANGS FAULT!

  210. avatar terry b says:

comeau + power play = loss ,, some of these guys play like the tin man and need to go see the wizzard

  211. avatar ed says:

How can Rangers play Avery, Boyle,Prust, Deveuax? and Sauer, all that can fight, and Islanders have no room on the roster for toughness because of our massive talent pool?

  212. avatar BanGarth says:

My 4 year old son jumped on the couch with me last night during the game. After growing up with the Isles I always dreamed of sharing my passion with kids one day. Last night as much as it pained me I told him he didn t want to watch , i can t subject him to the torture we have had to endure the last 20 years. Wang if you won t sell please bring in a real GM, this is pathetic.

    • avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

Don’t forget about Captain Canada himself – Ryan Smyth.

The comment about Bailey just made me spit out my drink. How true it is…

  213. avatar The Sick one Six says:

Kirk Muller cried on TV when he was traded to the Islanders…He cried! A pro athlete cried because he was traded to our team! He cried!

P.S. I wouldn’t pass the mashed potato’s on Thanksgiving to Bailey because he wouldn’t know what to do with it!

  214. avatar Isle Insider says:

After 5-6 years of hearing Rebuild with youth.
And Charles Wang Not investing in this Team.

The Islanders are AGAIN and AGAIN in the same Spot THE BOTTOM OF THE NHL! When do us Islander Fans stop Blaming the Players, and start holding ownership ACCOUNTABLE “WHEN”!!

The Islander for all their words and excuse’s are still at the bottom of the league, they are the 2nd to WORST Team in the NHL!!!!
Us Fans can no longer TRUST CHARLES WANG and for that matter GARTH “The Puppet” SNOW.

Please Fans help end this MISERY!! We must start chanting every game,

    CHARLES WANG MUST SELL !!!!!!!
    GARTH SNOW MUST GO !!!!!!
That and only that will help this club, like Fed up says.
    It starts with ownership !

Stick together and we will WIN not like this Organization

  215. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Dear KEITH QUINN! I CALL BULL CRAP ON YOU!

You wrote these two lies! “Nino was not visible in a good way. I hope Islander fans aren’t expecting him to be a savior. His PP2 line was effective and that may be very helpful going forward.

PA Parenteau is the Isles best puck carrying forward and is generally calm and cool distributing. The Isles may want to consider re-signing him…particularly if Okposo, Bailey and Comeau don’t start coming around soon.”

PA Parenteau is not the Isles best puck carrying forward and not even close to it. He has a lot of turnovers and they often lead to goals against the Isles because when he loses the puck he doesn’t skate hard to get back in the play and pick up a man. Terrible D-liability, soft player, incosistent offense. If Isles resign PA Parenteau is is an admission that they intend to be a terrible team for a very long time.

NINO WAS VERY NOTICEABLE. YA he had no points but neither did your pal PA Parenteau, expensive vet Roloston, seasoned vets Reasoner & Pandalfo (waste of a contract and a jersey). He had 4 hits after the first two periods, I gaurantee you that is more then several other Isles combined. He used his body numerous times to protect the puck and make plays. Goring even commented that one of the plays against the wall how he held of the Ranger with his strength and made a wonderful pass that led to the Isles getting out of their zone. Let’s see Mike Mottau try that.

  216. avatar FedUp says:

    YES!Fans are catching on now.

    “WANG MUST SELL”!!!!!!!!!

    “SNOW MUST GO”!!!!!!!!!!

  217. avatar Brian G says:

Wang = Worst Owner in Sports
Snow = Worst GM in Sports

  218. avatar The Sick one Six says:

Bailey = Bad Athlete Inconsistant Lazy Everynight Yuck!

  219. avatar Dennis says:

Same as last year. Same skid same time of year. Mid November and once again buried in the division. Taveras , Moulson, and Streit are the only three with a clue night in and night out. This team just is not good. Keep Nabakov as the starter. Oh how I miss Mike Bossy.

  220. avatar Gene F says:

And Garth can’t blame it on the injuries this year – everyone is healthy so far.

  221. avatar Danfromouteast says:

Most of the time watching the Islanders is like watching old people make love

  222. avatar Fios please give me MSGHD says:

  223. avatar Fios please give me MSGHD says:

You can get tickets for tomorrow’s game for $5 on stubhub….what does that tell you?

  224. avatar Brian G says:

Capuano just said a center won’t be scratched tomorrow…maybe Okposo will take Pandolfo’s spot….he skated on the 4th line today….
