Bailey has zero confidence but after he scored you could see a little ooze out, and obviously the guy, when going is a very good player. With confidence he makes great passes and thus Comeau (or someone who can score)becomes dangerous again.
For me I flip my centers: JT with Grabs and KO, Bailey with Moulson and Parenteau and Nielsen with Comeau and Nino. Reasener with Martin and Roulston (since his $5M ensures the cap floor)…in the end it’s coaching!-
In the end it is the same low level of talent.

I agree with Chris in that this team will have some highs this season, only because every team, unless your 30th, usually gets a stretch of about 10 games where you play very well. The Isles do this every year at some point. The only way the Isles contend for the 8th spot is if they change the chemistry, sooner than later. They need energy and some hard nosed players, because very few of the core guys play that way.
Martin & Hamonic are the only guys who stand up for their teamates and Hamonic needs to be on the ice and not in the penalty box.
They came together last year when Gillies, Haley and Kanopka were in the line-up…so what does Snow do….of course replace them with guys who altered the chemistry for the worse. -
The only good thing I see so far is that our star(J.T) is becoming just that.
I would not dismantle the rest of the team but simply fix the main 3 problems, which the fans have been screaming for management to do throughout the summer.
1) Must get better D-men. Hamonic, Streit, and A.Mac are the only ones worthy of playing on any N.H.L.team. The rest are way below average in every way.
2) After 4 yrs of goaltender angst, its time to address the D.P. situation. Even if he is temporarily healthy, he is not anywhere near a decent goalie who can be counted on to get us into the playoffs. He is a serious distraction, sorry, that is just the way it’s been for way too long!
3) Must get tougher. This current team has skill, but the word on the street is just throw them around like a bunch of rag dolls and it’s an instant 2 points for your team!
For the 100th time, Mr. Wang has been going about getting a new arena all wrong. He casts himself with one political loser after another, only to be let down. I can’t understand why he does not get that having a successful team would do wonders for both his wallet, and getting an arena under way. As it stands right now, they have alienated almost everyone except the die-hards. I’m sure it won’t be that long before they get to us to.-
Well said!! I am a die- hard, and I am officially alienated.
-
Count me in im an alien to. I’ve been alienated.

Tyler Seguin is better than John Tavares loool
-
surround JT with the same players as Seguin and he is just as good if not better.

Trade Nabokov anywhere, start Monty qith DP backing up. Agree with the defense as a must upgrade the four Mottau, Jurcina, Staios, and Eaton are all the same(average) so keep one and make him last pairing guy. Toughness is definitely an issue although Dibo might sure that up with Martin and Hamonic. Rolston and Pandolfo I could live without and because of Roslton’s age if he is sent to the minors his contract is safe. THis team needs a little confidence and leadership and they can get back some swagger.
-
Everyone is quick to blame the Eatons and Jurcina and Staois of the world…….Andy Mac and Streit have been brutal IMO. And in typical fashion, we made Hamonic out to be the best thing since sliced bread, and he hasn’t been very impressive lately.
-
Lacking:
1.A solid Big tough D.
2. A Brooks Laich type forward
3. A tougher style of play
4.Go back to going with youth and not over-the-hill vets who are neither part of the present or future. ex. Pondolfo,Staios, Rolston. -
I am a huge Isles fan but this team has been tough to watch! If it were not for the Blue Jackets we would be the WORST team in the league. At this point, I expect nothing from this team. So far they have not dissapointed me. Everyone talks about the rebuild and how we need size and toughness. Garth drafted Bailey over Tyler Myers,Nino over Jeff Skinner and Strome over Couturier. All three of those players are contributing on playoff contending teams while the one’s Garth drafted are not. Who are these great young players drafted by Garth that are going to turn this franchise around?? Calvin DeHaan? Aaron Ness? Corey Trevino? At this point I will believe it when I see it. So far all I see is the second worst team in the league. Sad.
-
Exactly right. Besides drafting Hamonic, (Tavares was a slam dunk) and picking Grabner and Moulson off the waiver wire, how exactly has Snow improved this team during his five years? That’s a long time. No impact trades, no impact signings other than Streit. I keep expecting the future to be bright but I throught this team would be much improved when they were terrible 2-3 years ago and we’re still terrible.
-
-
What no trades!? Vancouver will beat us, probably badly
I never witnessed so many pissed off, nauseated, fed up people on one board. Go Isles -
I think the Isles have a fair chance in beating Vancouver tomorrow night for their 1st road win of the season. I am from a Vancouver suburb and will be cheering the Isles on TV.
-
I think it is becoming obvious that Snow has his hands tied by Wang. They are keeping the old guys because they keep the team at the salary cap. Therefore, we will suffer the whole year till the end then Snow will get a couple of late round draft picks for the oldies, he will bring up some young guys the team will win enough to get the 5th or 6th overall pick and we start all over again next year. We are all frustrated fans, and we deserve to be heard from these idiots in management. I almost forgot that this was once the best run franchise in the NHL and maybe all of sports. In the end it is becoming obvious that Wang is the problem any Billionaires out there that want to buy a team with no building, no talent and no future? We are stuck with management for ever-or till they are forced to move-sorry for all of the negativity but it is pretty bad with no end in sight to the suffering for all of us!
-
At some point, after his $$ losses begin to amount to a point where he is no longer comfortable, Mr. Wang will cut ties with this franchise. This club will remain in the NY metro area, its just a matter of time before the arena specifics are settled (Queens, Suffolk, Nassau, Brooklyn, etc).
Look how much effort has been exerted into the Phoenix Coyotes by the NHL executives? How disastrous would it look, for the NHL and all of pro sports, if a traditional NY based franchise relocated??

Hoping for a winning streak with this wimpy lineup is like hoping for a drug addict son to go a few months without getting in trouble. The proble, (wimpiness, no supierior goaltending) needs to be fixed. A lucky winning streak just hurts the Isles as Wang will run the season with Dipietro still playing and a top 89 fowards worthy of lady bing trophy. Those 2 are not makeups of a playoff team.
-
on a side note the rags are playing well, the fans brought avery back and they lead the league in fighting majors.
-
I wonder if JT is rethinking his commitment to this franchise? I am so disgusted with the management of this team. This goalie fiasco is ridiculous. I remember trashing Nabby for not reporting to the team last year, now not so much.
-
Ok, I have given a lot of grief to Snow, here, but actually he has done a very good job drafting, when I look at this.
The following blue chip prospects are tearing it up rignt now on the score sheet:
1) Ryan Stromme (16 points, projects to be top 5 scorer in OHL if he played all of the scheduled games that have been played so far by their team).
2) Krill Kabanov – may be the greatest steal of that draft (15 points in 8 games), projects to be leading scorer in QMJHL if he played all of the scheduled games that have been played so far by their team)
3) Anders Lee (Leads all of college hockey in goals scored with 12, and is in the top 5 in scoring, a definatge candidatre for the Hobey Baker)
4)Krill Petrov (16 points in 22 games): top ten scorer in the KHL (very close in talent level to the NHL).
5) Nino Niederrieter (on the way and starting to score in the AHL).
6) Brock Nelson (Not far behind Anders Lee and starting to mature as a top college player).
7) John Pearson (sort of a steal 6th round pick.I think Baily and Okposso will be feeling a alot heat soon if they do not step it up.
-
Let me know when they actually do something at NHL level. Looking at prospects year after year is a complete waste of time. Then there is the fact that Snow will not surround them with the quality vets they need to succeed.
-
-
Mr. Baily, Coumo, and Okposso, say hello to the very talented: Stromme, Niedereiter, Lee, Kabaonov and Petrov and goodbye if you don’t get your acts together.
-
Have no illusions, this is not a playoff team.
Not tough at all, poor defense. There are many good prospects, maybe even excellent prospects but they are at least 2 or 3 years away from making any impact. Rebuild sounds good but you MUST trade for or sign proven players to complement them. -
There really is no question that the Isles have done well at building up talent but there aren’t spots for all those guys and there are huge holes that cannot be filled with any prospects in the near term. Having 1 new top prospect join a team a year is great for a team that is competitive but that simply will never add up fast enough to make the isles competitive again. Since no one will join the team as a free agent that leaves Snow and a now enormous list of talented prospects. He can’t do worse that Milbury right?
-
This year is a transitioning year. We should expected much. Next year we have the ability to spend (wang willing) an ACTUAL talent in FA. As long as TE island contend for a playoff, not even finish in the playoff..players will notice how close we are. This is how next year could look..

The status of the Islanders is way beyond this Nabokov debacle. This is about like Jaffe has said,”The Islanders need an identity for themselves” Who are they and that, well said by jaffe is a main problem created by Garth Snow and Charles Wang!
In todays Newsday Garth “The Puppet” Snow as published once again his famous words.
“We have a lot of confidence in the guys we have” LoL! I guess this former back up Goalie does not look at results or past Years Results for that matter. What do you expect from a non qualified GM! The FACTS speak for themselves and truley he has his head up his @ss. This my friends is the reason for what you have seen over the years and will continue to see.
Charles Wang is the one that us fans need to target because he just does not care about your voices no matter how he say different.Garth Snow even said he will “make no changes” Right from the horse’s mouth of Wang who has his hand right up Garth Snow”The Puppet”.
You want to know why? Wang only cares about Corporate Dollars not indivual Fans Ticket Money. So you have NO voice as your words and complaints fall to the side. I was there years ago as a season ticket holder when Wang told a season ticket holder to “Sit Down and Shut up” The Gall of this con-artist who just continues to DisRespect All Islander Fans. -
I wonder with Jets playing if 1000 fans are watching this borefest on TV?
The fact that Snow suggests no moves are needed is a CLEAR sign of dumb GM or GM with no creativity or a GM with his hands tied, ala NY MESS, i mean NY METS. Only problem is we dont have a ton of money invested in bad contracts with the exception of DP, who was the idiot that ok’d that contract. He should be fired ASAP!!!!

Its so tough to be optimistic these days. I never truly believed that Comeau was the 25 goal guy that we saw last year, Gordon had trouble getting him going and now so does Captain Jack. Bailey should spend a few games in the press box when Nino arrives. The one im most troubled by id KO. I have to wonder if he’s concerned about re injuring the shoulder because it seems like he’s playing that way. I wish the KO that we saw 2 years ago would return.
