THE MORNING SKATE FOR NOV 13th
Islanders at Canucks, 9pm

by Kevin Schultz on November 13th, 2011 at 1:25 pm

Please accept this post as your combined news round up and game preview.

NABOKOV TO START
Evgeni Nabokov will get the start in Vancouver tonight and will be backed up by Al Montyoa.

NINO RETURNS
Nino Niederreiter’s conditioning stint in Bridgeport finish up tomorrow. Expect him to be on the roster for Tuesday’s game against the Rangers. Where he fits into the lineup and who will sit still remains to be seen. As usual, Capuano has nothing to say on the subject.

DE HAAN INJURED
From Michael Fornabaio:

Nothing right away on Calvin de Haan, who was injured early in the third period of what somehow became a team-record ninth consecutive one-goal game. He took a hit up high, might’ve been to the head, from Dane Byers along the boards on the power play. Went right to the room. Hopefully we get some kind of update tomorrow.

KOSKINEN ON HIS WAY TO FINLAND
Google translator isn’t perfect, but I believe this article is saying that Mikko Koskinen is now with a team in Finland. Koskinen was getting the least playing time of the three goalies in Bridgeport this season. The move is likely a loan so the Islanders do still own the goalie’s NHL rights.

THE BIGGEST ISLANDER FAN IN THE HISTORY OF EVER
This video is a Moment of Zen that has all the makings of an internet superstar. This is a true fan vicariously summoning the spirits of Comeau and Bailey and teaching them to score. Chris Botta called it “riveting, kinda touching.” Keith Quinn thinks “he’s doing his part to show the Isles where the ‘dirty areas’ are… Thank you for finally breaking that confounding Devil trap!”

Today Magicking788, we salute you and your dedication to the New York Islanders. We thank you for envisioning them beating down the New Jersey Devils by a score of 8-2 and beating up Colin White. We hope that the real Islanders can summon the energy you did and accomplish the same feat in the home-and-home this Thanksgiving.

    …umm ok.

  2. avatar Dan Rad says:

White w the Gordie Howe hat trick. Shame he plays for the sharks!

  3. avatar Winning says:

The islanders are the only team who can afford to play a backup goalie so often just to build a trade value of a 4th round pick. Other teams can’t do that, they have to worry about playing the best plauers, winning hockey games, making fans happy. Its nice to simply not give a craxx about winning.

  4. avatar nycdork says:

    Tonight’s starting line up

    Moulson – JT – Nino

    Streit – Nunez

  5. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Just wanted to point out that most of DiPietro’s injuries came from being run. He hasn’t played a full year yet and now Al is hurt from being run. Nabokov according to the internet wants out and Snow is trying to trade him. That leaves a currently hurt AL & DP. If one gets hurt then one of the BP guys comes up and now BP is in need of a goalie. I would now allow Mikko to Finland.

Brian Compton says that Trenton Titans would love any of the BP goalies.

I don’t like the way Isles are playing. It is so boring to watch, no entertainment value. Isles were great fun to watch the end of last year.

  6. avatar BT says:

I AM GETTING AN ISLES “NUNEZ” SHIRT.

  7. avatar ed says:

Would like to see Islanders call up Nino,Haley and DiBenedetto to replace Comeau, Pandolfo and Reasoner.

Ed, those are perfect moves. That’s why it will never occur. I would rotate Bailey in the mix too. Not waivers for him, but the press box.

  8. avatar BT says:

YOU are the embarrassment. One love.

  9. avatar Christian says:

I flew to Vancouver, and I am going to the game tonight while proudly wearing my Tavares jersey. Let’s hope they can pull a win out or I’m going to have a miserable flight home.

  10. avatar Jim Clark says:

I was hoping for a Luongo vs DiPietro mismatchup. And it will go opposite Jets vs Patriots.

  11. avatar Corey says:

You never did that? I used to do that all the time! I never recorded it on video but when I was alone I would play street hockey like that. Just make up a game like that. Problem was I would be on a breakway or something shoot it wide then have to find the ball in the back woods

  12. avatar NYIhockey16 says:

First of all, good for Christian – that is what’s known as true dedication to one’s team. Now, on to the business at hand. Is it any wonder the team is struggling offensively when the players being counted on so heavily to score are simply not? Okposo, Bailey and Comeau have combined for ONE GOAL thus far. Forget about what veterans they should or shouldn’t have kept or signed to round out the roster. The young guys who are supposed to be the foundation of the franchise as we move forward are just not getting it done. Even Tavares’ numbers are deceiving due to the fact eight of his points came in back-to-back games last month. Also, goaltending is not the issue. Any of the three are more than capable. HOW ABOUT A LITTLE SUPPORT! I can’t really blame Al for being a bit miffed and taking that penalty in OT last game. After your defense has leaked 50 shots, I’d be slightly upset myself. Don’t really know what else to say about my beloved Isles. I’ve almost become numb to the entire situation at this point. Kind of like being a Cubs fan, I guess – hoping and praying for the best, but expecting and getting the worst. Not negativity people, but rather realism. In conclusion, it just ABSOLUTELY KILLS me to look at the standings and realize the Islanders are further out of FOURTH place in the division than the amount of ground separating ENTIRE divisions in a few examples. All the teams that have struggled so mightily in recent years (save Columbus) seem to have righted their respective ships. Florida is right behind Washington. The EDMONTON FREAKIN’ OILERS are on top of their division!!! This is a team that was bad enough to have drafted first overall in the time SINCE the Islanders drafted JT a few years ago. If you look at the young nuclei of some of the above-mentioned teams, it doesn’t seem as if they have any more talent than the Isles do. At this point, not only do I have no answers – I don’t even know what the questions are anymore.

  13. avatar WALT says:

Nunez, you need a real hockey net and a deck hockey stick for the road. Love the energy though and the people jogging by in the background. The one woman looks faster than brian rolston.

  14. avatar Erika says:

Nunez for G.M. He has a better shot than half the team, nice release there bud!

  15. avatar RICH L says:

Want to bet that Charlie Choo Choo sees this video of the Nunez kid, and orders Snow to sign him to a 5 year contract, and sends down the last remaining fighter on the team Matt Martin, because he really wanted to own a ice capades on ice team, or a ballerina troupe.

Somebody please wean this kid off of the sugar intake, Thank You.

  16. avatar Nunez says:

Hey guys! This is Magicking788…Thanks for giving me props…And theres only one thing left TO say….LETS GO ISLANDERS!!!!!!!! And everyone I thank you for commenting!

  17. avatar Paul says:

Dehann is soft and injury prone. Him and Bailey are two wasted picks by slick Snow.

  18. avatar Jorgie says:

Go Nunez GO! Def a great fan! Love the fight scene haha. Only wish the islanders played this good on a day to day basis.

  19. avatar Jon in Chicago says:

At no point..before the game, during the game do you ever get the feeling the Isles can beat the Canucks. Nice road trip, nice season, nice franchise.

  20. avatar Staten Islander says:

I watched this during the 3rd period. It was much more entertaining than the game.

  21. avatar cjcb says:

wonder with Jets playing if 1000 fans are watching this borefest on TV?

The fact that Snow suggests no moves are needed is a CLEAR sign of dumb GM or GM with no creativity or a GM with his hands tied, ala NY MESS, i mean NY METS. Only problem is we dont have a ton of money invested in bad contracts with the exception of DP, who was the idiot that ok’d that contract. He should be fired ASAP!!!!

  22. avatar Isles4cups says:

Ahhh…good old Islanders hockey tonight in Vancouver. Score 1 goal. Yee-Haa! BTW, Lucic hammers Miller and Buffalo did nothing. I would love for this guy to be on the Islanders team.

  23. avatar Soly Rio says:

Omg Nunez the best I love it
