YOUR FIRST INTERMISSION LOWLIGHT: Nathan Horton Cracks Up Describing His Goal

by Kevin Schultz on November 19th, 2011 at 8:27 pm

So things haven’t gone very well so far tonight for the Islanders. After one period against the Bruins they got out shot 13-2 and out scored 3-0. One of those goals came off of Nathan Horton’s stick. The play started when Isles goalie Rick DiPietro went behind his net to play the puck. DiPietro did what every defenseman is taught not to do from birth and cleared it straight up the middle of the ice. It went right onto the tape of Horton’s stick and into the net. In the intermission, MSG’s Peter Ruttgaizer interviewed Horton and asked him to walk the audience through his goal. In the end, the two end up cracking up on camera. Yikes.

Fire Peter Ruttgaizer immediately. Where is Christine Simpson, who did extensive work last season on NJ Devil broadcasts last season.

  2. avatar hihellohowareu says:

    That wasn’t cracking up lol

  3. avatar Ethan K says:

Everyone is laughing except the fans. Dipietro doesn’t care because he makes millions being TERRIBLE at his job! People who are terrible at their job usually get fired.

  4. avatar Quentin Jones says:

Horton is cracking up because the Islanders are a joke. This team is afraid to play the Bruins. They are a joke. One guy, Matt Martin, plays like a man. Hockey is a physical game. Get physical.

  5. avatar WhyDoWeSuck? says:

Well, Horton is right, he did get a great pass from DiPietro.

  6. avatar Real Hockey Fan says:

.. Im not a “negative nelly type” but my goodness that first period was PATHETIC, they had nothing in that period, 1 of the worse periods of the year! – this was after honering Isles legend #18 Eddie Westfall

.. DP is hurting this team, i really think that again the didnt skate in the 1st period (terrible effort) but hes putting them in holes thats tough 2 dig out!

.. I wish i could create 5 more Matt Martins for this team, hes 1 of the few guys that bring it all the time – i just think a ‘shakeup’ is needed for this team and some sandpaper/grit/size on the roster… BADLY!

.. Best part of night was hearing Jiggs and Eddie in the 2nd period, reminds me of my youth and the old sportchannel in the late 80′s early 90′s – great stuff

  7. avatar Isles fan in CA says:

This is the first time I have ever posted on the goaltending performance of Rick Diepietro. Watching that goal and DP play between the pipes makes me sick. He was so amped after the game vs Montreal even though he played hideous and was luckily bailed out by Montreal’s lackluster play. His elderly like reflexes make me cringe. As a diehard fan I would not mind seeing him play in the AHL for the rest of his multi-year contract.

  8. avatar WhyDoWeSuck? says:

How can a team that is “young and hungry” fail to put forth any effort for the majority of their games? How is it that every year, irrespective of the players continue to suck?

  9. avatar AngryPete says:

If Howie Rose wasn’t fired for his comments last year in Atlanta, why would they do anything to Ruttgaizer?

  10. avatar MikeInNYC says:

My god the islanders are terrible. You really can tell from watching this game how far the islanders are from contending in this league

And how about for the third home game in a row, the islander fans are pretty much overwhelmed by fans of the visiting team. It’s pathetic, the islanders cant even come home to a fanbase anymore.

It’s almost like they’re trying to be so bad that the fans won’t care when they skip town in 4 years

  11. avatar NYIhockey16 says:

I’m so absolutely SICK TO DEATH of the continuous DP-bashing! This young man (remember, he’ still only 30) has been under an enormous amount of pressure since the day he arrived on Long Island a decade ago as the so-called savior of the proverbial “once-proud” franchise. Everyone loved him back then and he was on the verge of being a top-5 goaltender in the league when all the injuries and just plain bad luck began to befall him. Besides, I don’t care if your name is Patrick Roy. Even he needed defense in front of him and oh, by the way, some occasional OFFENSE to win games and ultimately Cups. Last time I checked the Isles’ roster has no Forsbergs, Sakics, or even John LeClairs (he was a Canadien for any of you too young to recall). So get off DP’s case already! The problems with this organization run far deeper than the crease.

    • avatar JKP on LI says:

He’s a selfish player. Trying to pass the puck up the middle only happens if you think you are just SO GOOD that you can break the “rules.” He does stuff like this all the time.

    • avatar The Haley Hammer says:

He brings it upon himself. How many times do we have to see him misplay the puck. Coming out of the draft he was touted as the best stick handling goalie ever to be drafted, its quite obvious that not only he cant but he is a mediocre goal tender at best. What was all that celebrating after the habs game, even his teammates were embarrassed by his antics. He walks around like he is the man, yeah sure.

    • avatar Paul says:

ROFL! Ten years later he sucks!

  12. avatar juniorjunior says:

anyone notice that they had the umbrella up when the Isles left the ice?

    we are a disgrace.

  13. avatar WhyDoWeSuck? says:

Jaffe does not get the extension because he is “too hard on the Islanders” but Howie and Ruttgaizer face no retaliatory action despite the fact that they overtly mock the Islanders. Seems logical. Just as logical as signing Staios, Motteau, Rolston.

  14. avatar Rich L says:

To show you how cheap, and idiotic this organization is, on MSG+ there is Ken Daneyko, representing the Devils,Brian Leetch, usually Dave Maloney, for the Rangers and we get Billy Jaffe, not thst he is bad, but why not a former player, and Peter Ruttgaizer, how much hockey has he ever played, probably NONE.

  15. avatar NYIhockey16 says:

It’s apparent anyone taking the time to follow this team still gives a damn enough, but what the hell can we do?

  16. avatar Hey-O says:

This guy shouldnt be fired..that was hilarious..i cant stop watching it. Our own TV guy, horton and us fans all know we are nothing but a laughing stock!

  17. avatar Al's Beef says:

Of course Horton laughed. It was the best pass he will get all year.

  18. avatar martin says:

I hate going there, but why did the Islanders hire Peter Ruttgaizer. He cant pronounce any names. He doesnt have a clue what is going on. He doesnt look prepared 95% of the time. Are you thinking what I’m thinking?

  19. avatar Swan says:

Please. Enough about Peter Ruttgaizer. He is not the problem about this Team.

  20. avatar Bomber24 says:

Please bring up Haley & gillies. Sit the devils retreads…
This team is bad, so let’s make it entertaining!

  22. Now Let Me Guess Next Time We hear From
    NHL president Gary Bettman,
    He will state….
“Theres No Question The NY Islanders Need A New Building….Soon”.
    Wow, really?
Again….. It’s Ground Hogs Day & we are all
Bill Murray as we awake tomorrow , yet Again!
Lets Go Isles.. Lets Go Islanders!

  23. avatar csk says:

this team needs a new owner and be moved to Brooklyn – someone who can put some money into the team and eat Dipietro’s contract

the good news – will all the years of sucking, the new owner will start with some talent for sure

the fear is that the team will be attractive now to someone who wants this to become Toronto’s second team – actually, with the talent in hand, that would be a seriously GREAT investment idea – and in a world with few such, expect something like this to happen

Value of the Leafs = 470m
Value of the Islanders = 147m

  24. avatar hangover3 says:

He was laughing at the sarcasm, not at Dipietro. Look everyone older then 7 years old knows Dipietro doesnt belong in the NHL. His save % doesnt lie. Wang is teaching all the kids a valuable life lesson, NEPOTISM its who you know in life for most good jobs. So kiss butt, friend everyone on facebook, always buddy up with the bosses, and you will get job security and promotions. DP had a good agent, Tavares didnt.

  25. avatar caber09 says:

    DP 10 – 13 .769 save %

  26. avatar It's our fault says:

    lmao. nice video.

Can anyone shed some light on why Deb Placey left the isles? I was watching the NHL network and she appeared so pleased to be doing the devils games now.

  27. avatar Bill W. says:

Peter Ruttgaizer should be fired right now, even before Garth & Capuano! The players know better than anyone that the organization is a joke so why give any effort. Get your pay check and go home.

  28. avatar Bean322 says:

this video actually made me like horton-i used to despise him

  29. avatar anthony c says:

    dipietro sucks
