GAME THREAD: ISLANDERS AT STARS, 8:30 PM

by Kevin Schultz on December 3rd, 2011 at 5:13 pm

Due to the late game last night, there wasn’t enough time to put together a formal pre-game. You can talk about the game in this thread and the post will be updated with lineup notes as they are available. Post-game will come later tonight as normal.

Andy MacDonald will sit again, with Dylan Reese taking his spot. Rick DiPietro is in net tonight.

Great game last night. They need a little luck on their side. Nothing wrong with coming out of Chicago with a come from behind point. They have played well since the Flyer game. Tavares getting hot will make a big difference.

  2. avatar Charlie says:

Not relevant to the tonight’s game, but I need to say this. I miss Chris Botta but clearly you are working very hard at this.

While it is obvious you are working very hard to provide interesting, relevant content, I must say the new format of the blog is terrible and I avoid it. I’m not sure who picked it out, but I just find it less than inviting.

Good luck with it Kevin, I really wish you the best.

    • avatar nino neidermizer says:

don’t let the door hit your azz on the way out.
You should be thankful for this blog. Go be a Rags fan, maybe Dolan will show you around the new madison rat garden.

    • avatar isles316 says:

It’s a free blog to get the latest Isles news. If you have a problem with the format and you think it stinks and don’t come to this board because of it you have major issues and kind of a jerk for saying so when it’s FREE and Kevin and Alan and everyone else is working so hard at it. Go away please then.

  3. avatar martin says:

I actually enjoy the new blog

    Curious, whats the deal, Charlie!!!

  4. avatar Bean322 says:

I enjoy the blog…only criticism would be not assigning a number to each comment. I understand you said you could not do this, but can you just get rid of replying to a specific comment. I think we you miss a lot because you have to search through the thread for replies. Can you just do away with replies, force people to amke a new comment all together

  5. avatar nino neidermizer says:

Tonight’s game is on msg+2 which means the game is is barley visible on tv. lol. thanks dolan, thanks wang.

  6. avatar giz says:

Wtf Dp Starting tonight an MacDonald out again.

  7. avatar jonj77 says:

It’s totally reasonable that DP is starting tonight… Montoya has started the past four games, and starting back-to-back games on the road is rare.

But, DP in net probably means the Isles will lose. It’s tough to win with the worst goalie in the NHL.

  8. avatar Justin Marques says:

DiPietro will play excellent tonight and the Isles will win…but only because then it is going to make Jack Capuano think that DiPietro should get a few starts in a row and we will go back into another slide where we get blown out, DP looks awful, and we fall further into the abyss of the Eastern Conference standings.

  9. avatar cheepnis says:

I like the blog! And sure Chris Botta is a more experienced journalist but Kevin, you’re doing great. Keep it up!

As for tonight’s game it will be interesting to see if they have any jump. THey might start sluggish and/or fade late…

I’d love to see Haley tonight, hope we don’t see Ricky.

  10. avatar 4theisles says:

Kevin excellent job and improving everyday Lots of luck.

  11. avatar Bob says:

So much for the good road trip….Dipietro is in…@#$$#%$##$$$##^&*&^%

  12. avatar Blizz says:

Lets hope DP doesn’t go on safari tonight.

    LETS GO ISLANDERS!!!!

….Nino, needs to not give up defensively, And Baily is gonna score tonight.

  13. avatar exSection307 says:

    Basic algebra

    DP = L

  14. avatar Jonathan, Smithtown says:

From what I remember his monstrosity of a beard was trimmed down a bit.. maybe tonight he will be straight mustache?

  15. avatar Mike says:

Heard Rickety Red Light is in net! Glad I made plans to go out for dinner!!!!

  16. avatar Xavier says:

There is now a roll over HD channel. Keep on forgetting the number something like 782. I saw the isles devils game last time they were on MSG plus 2

  17. avatar booten says:

I love the blog, the design is fine with me. The fact that you kept it going and added your own touch to it is great. Thanks for all that you’re doing to maintain it.

Hopefully DP proves most of us wrong and gives us a chance to win tonight.

  18. avatar Jersey Steve says:

I give DiPietro credit for having heart and toughness. He has had a lot of bad luck with injuries and is trying hard to find his old form again. I hope one day he finds it. Good luck tonight Ricky!

  19. avatar Jim Clark says:

Hopefully this start by Rickety is more of a “no back to back starts on the road by our number one goalie Montoya” than the vain hope that DP will regain his all star form.
So far Anaheim and Carolina have changed coaches in hopes of not winning the “Fail for Nail” sweepstakes. Will Columbus join the parade?

  20. avatar pete says:

What are the Vegas odds that DP gives up a goal on the first shot of the game again?

  21. avatar caber09 says:

Usually I would agree with this move (even though DP=loss, and Big Al needs a rest) but we have a chance to continue the momentum, and Montoya sat for 6 weeks, so 1 back to back would not be terrible. Oh well so much for the mini run..and if by small chance Isles win, next time we see Al will be a month from now.

  22. avatar J from nj says:

Game will be over after the 1st. This team can’t play in front of dp. Do you blame them?

  23. avatar Blizz says:

inb4 DP gives up goal on first shot

  24. avatar caber09 says:

Whats the over/under on the amount of shots before DP gives up the first goal?

  25. avatar Dk says:

How about we put Reese in net and DP on the blue line?

DP couldn’t be worse than Mottau and maybe Reese would save the first shot of the game which we know DP can’t.

  26. avatar Not Surprised says:

    Rick Starts = We Lose

  27. avatar Dk says:

    6-1 sounds about right

  28. avatar Chris Willmer says:

4-0 by middle of 2nd period with DP starting.

  29. avatar Jersey Steve says:

I’d still like to see Cizikas in for Reasoner and Wishart in for Jurcina or Mottau. Our D coverage is pretty sad and Jurcina is really struggling right now.

  30. avatar Joey says:

I think this blog rocks! anyway if DP gives up a softie to open the game like the flyer game, he should be pulled immediately. I bet the players would rally with a move like that!

  31. avatar Onesinceforty says:

I just don’t root as hard when DP is in between the pipes. Sort of like the players don’t play as hard.

  32. avatar Dk says:

We should almost root for an early softie because if the planets align properly and he isn’t awful he will see more ice.

Then again DP being solid is probably a reach.

    • avatar Don from Levittown says:

You guys are a joke. You call yourselves fans? Not rooting hard when DP is in goal and rooting for an early soft one. You are an embarrassment. DP played well tonight until he got hurt. 2 goals were tipped in front, but nobody will care about that. They will just rip him. I haven’t gotten to the bottom of this string yet, but I am sure there are more than a few that will say they are glad DP got hurt. Again, embarrassing.

  33. avatar Tedge77 says:

    First shot and a save!!!!!!!

  34. avatar claude says:

We lose 5-3. DP kicks the blame can down the street in post game

  35. avatar Blizz says:

….well this should be interesting. Hope Nino is ok.

  36. avatar nino neidermizer says:

wow. that hit. damn there goes nino’s season. :(
another waste of a developmental season.

  37. avatar Jersey Steve says:

Good thing Dallas was punished with a power play for the illegal hit that took out El Nino.

  38. avatar Cdu says:

How is that not a penalty!

  39. avatar Anthony says:

Thats why Haley or Gillies need to be in the lineup.Teams are always running are players.Cap wake up!!!Snow is a joke!!!

  40. avatar CM says:

For F–K sakes!! DP on his ass behind the net. Typical. Cap should have pulled him right there.

    Send DP to BP

  41. avatar Jersey Steve says:

At least we have Haley to take care of….oh wait….

  42. avatar Tedge77 says:

Can we end the game now and go home?

  43. avatar Tedge77 says:

It’s not fair to have Matt Martin as the only tough guy in the line up.

  44. avatar steve m says:

pregame on radio..cappy emphasizing ” it starts in net..play simple game, simple moves.” so rick goes and gets hung up behind the net. same mistakes, repeated every game.
looking foward to more complaints about moulson, the guy scores goals. thats his job. he does it well. thanks to matt martin for sticking up for Nino_ and the Hammer for standing up to Ott..

  45. avatar Joe E Jay says:

How is DP a good nickname for an NHL goalie?

    @charlie…..fail

  46. avatar Dk says:

DP is easier to spell than SIEVE.

I am sure Alexander Daigle and Patrick Stefan are huge fans of his. They company in the colossal failure dept.

  47. avatar WhyDoWeSuck? says:

Is channel 198 (MSG+2) not working?

  48. avatar MikeInNYC says:

Rick’s still shutting out the Stars, right?

Thats what I thought…how about the DP haters shut up for now. I dont need to read this crap when were winning 2-0.

  49. avatar MikeInNYC says:

It was off for a second, turn your cable box off and then back on…it worked for me

  50. avatar Dk says:

A scoreless period against, we should sign him long term or something!!!!!

  51. avatar Cdu says:

Tavares is an animal out there. Must be frustrating for him but atleast he is getting the assists. Eventually he will get one for himself and then they will just pour in.

  52. avatar Nick L says:

Wow, Dallas fans suck. They team is good and they barely get people to go. I think even the Isles do better in attendance.

  53. avatar claude says:

    That’s the DP we know!!

  54. avatar ProvBrian says:

    Is this really happening?….

  55. avatar claude says:

My god! the eff is Cappy doing .Pull DP NOW!!!!!

  56. avatar Nick L says:

So, to recape, DP allows 3 Dallas goals in 2 minutes to tie the game. Moulson then scored a hat trick 27 seconds later? Yea…it’s a weird game.

  57. avatar Anthony says:

Get this bum out of the net and send him to siberia.Anyone who defends him should go with him.

  58. avatar Dk says:

    MikeInNYC…… You were saying???

  59. avatar Steve from Jersey says:

I’d only fault him on one of those goals, but three in a row that fast defiantly bites

  60. avatar Isles3113 says:

Dp is to blame on one goal people… The nystrom goal was completely Reese’s fault and the other was another defenseman, don’t remember who but it wasn’t dp’s fault

  61. avatar Steve from Jersey says:

Dallas really are takign way to many liberties. Somethings gotta be done

  62. avatar Ray says:

DP is on the right track but he’s getting beat up out there. Rebound control has been better and so has his glove positioning. He’s been a lot quicker tonight too. He’s still gotta fix his fivehole. He’s given up a few long shots this season five hole. Despite the score board he is playing well.

  63. avatar Tedge77 says:

If I shut off my cable box and turn it back on will DiPietro be gone?

  64. avatar Nick L says:

Moulson with 4 goals and PA with 4 assists to give him 22 points on the year. If the Isles were to have players in the All Star game, it would be these two.

  65. avatar nightbite21 says:

Please stop defending this guy people. His best days are behind him. I can’t remember the last big save this guy has come up with.

  66. avatar BringBackNyles says:

Leave DP alone, if he did not make those 17 saves we would be losing 21-5. We should give him another 10 years

  67. avatar PuckDaddy99 says:

Looks like it’s going to be another game that the Islanders win, but DP loses.

When the F are they going to put that guy out to pasture? Paying him not to play is the best thing the Isles can do, but we all know how embarrassing that would be to Isles mgmt.

  68. avatar Dk says:

Just when I thought DP would get his save % over 875. I for one am stunned!!!

    Sarcasm

  69. avatar Dk says:

DP Wang Chungs every time payday rolls around. What is it only another 30 or 40 years to go now?

  70. avatar Isles3113 says:

Moulson could easily have at least 2 more goals… The breakaway and the one in the first period where he went to his backhand in front of the wide open net and it landed on top of the net… Parenteau is a completely different player this year than last year… He frustrated me last year with all of the turnovers he used to commit… This year he is playing with a much better head and he seems more concrentrated

  71. avatar Nick L says:

Garth does 1 thing that’s good, and that’s picking up players off the scrap heap. Moulson, Grabner, PA…..

  72. avatar hoser14 says:

Get Red Light Ricky some solarcaine!

  73. avatar Nick L says:

Per Brian Compton via Twitter: Rick DiPietro has injured his groin. Montoya will play the 3rd period. #Isles

  74. avatar Dk says:

    YIPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEE

    Al is here

  75. avatar PuckDaddy99 says:

Groin injury for DP. There IS a God.

    • avatar PuckDaddy99 says:

Just to be clear — I don’t wish DP any harm. I wish him only the best. I just don’t want him between the pipes for the NYI.

  76. avatar Tedge77 says:

    Holy crap it worked!!!!!!

  77. avatar hoser14 says:

Hey DP how do you spell I.R.?

    Please take your time rehabbing!

  78. avatar BringBackNyles says:

Ricky has assured Wang he will be ready for the Opening of training camp in 2016

  79. avatar Dk says:

You can get groin injuries from repetitive motion …. May I suggest to DP that he alternates between forehand side and backhand side when fishing pucks out of the net. Constantly going forehand into the cage that often could kill anyone.

  80. avatar hoser14 says:

    Does this team looked gased?

  81. avatar Don from Levittown says:

DP bashing is unreal. 2 out of 4 goals were not his fault. Anyone bashing Montoya for last night’s soft goals?

Let me get it straight. At this point I think they are better served with Montoya in goal. I just think all this whining and bashing DP is ridiculous. With the callousness of some of these posts, I was thinking maybe some Philly fans were posting as Isles fans.

    • avatar Tedge77 says:

Don what have you been watching for the last three years? He will NEVER be an effective goalie again. Bad knees and groin is not a recipe for an all star goalie.

    • avatar Steve from Jersey says:

DP is the whipping boy… I think Montoya is playing great and is this teams number one, but agreed the DP bashing is ridicolous

      • avatar hoser14 says:

The DP bashing is not ridiculous, Red Light Ricky still makes the same rookie mistakes and his positioning leave a lot to be desired.

The stats don’t lie: 3.73 GAA and .876% PCT, (ie: the worst of the worst).

    • avatar Dk says:

So 2 of the 4 are his? In 2 periods mind you. That is acceptable?

Make it simple Al is top 5 in save percentage and GAA. DP is last in the league in both.

Last year we used 6 goalies and DP had the worst stats of that group. How much slack does this guy get? Anyone not related to him that wants to compare him to Al is beyond rational discussion.

      • avatar Steve from Jersey says:

I dont think anyone would say DP is better then Montoya at this point in time. DP may never get his game back, but for a goalie to be as injured as he has… I know I didn’t expect him to get it back this season.

Montoya is defiantly the number one now.

  82. avatar Steve from Jersey says:

thats what im talking about Montoya undisputed number 1.. ten points for the top line what a game thats a big 2 points

  83. avatar Dk says:

Al Montoya …. Clap clap clap clap ….. Al Montoya.

  84. avatar Charlie says:

Well, I expected the reaction I got in the beginning of the thread, although telling me to become a Ranger fan is just harsh…

As I said, best of luck to Kevin. Sorry, but the previous format suited me better.
