PRACTICE REPORT FOR DEC 12
Update: Micheal Haley has been returned to Bridgeport. That leaves the Islanders with 20 healthy skaters plus Nino and DiPietro on the roster. MacDonald, Pandolfo and Eaton are on IR.
Nino is skating with the team, but in a red practice jersey. He will not travel with the team to Montreal… Poulin returned to Brigeport, so Nabokov is off IR… Pandolfo still with a boot on his right foot… Andy MacDonald is not traveling with the team…
Capuano was not certain but thinks the team has talked to the league about rescinding Hamonic’s ejection. Garth Snow was not available for comment.
Also some rulebook notes on Hamonic…
Rule 20.4: …When a player has been assessed a major penalty for any of the infractions listed in the Reference Tables – Table 7 [I'll spare you the further reading, they're boarding, charging and elbowing] and his opponent has suffered an injury to the face or head, a game misconduct must also be assessed.
This doesn’t excuse the missed call at all but it does explain a bit why he was given the boot. The blood on Orpik’s face triggered an ejection once the referees decided their call was a major. No blood and it’s probably just the major (although, obviously, that would still be the wrong call). Even though the call was missed, the ejection wasn’t the referee’s discretion.
And as far as automatic suspensions being triggered from the match penalty go…
Rule 23.3 Fines and Suspensions – General Category – In regular League games, any player who incurs a total of three (3) game misconduct penalties in the “General Category” and exclusive of other designated categories, shall be suspended for the next League game of his team. For each subsequent game misconduct penalty, the automatic suspension shall be increased by one game. For each suspension of a player or goalkeeper, his Club shall be fined one thousand dollars ($1,000).
Yes, elbowing is included in that ‘General Category’ of suspensions, so technically, if Hamonic were to get two more ejections that would trigger an automatic one-game ban.

Will Nabakov play tomorrow?
-
The NHL should rescind the match penalty call.
-
If The Isles wanna make the playoffs they have to beat a mediocre Montreal team tomorrow.
-
New NHL blows. To many rules to much of a fiasco every night with is this a penalty is that a penalty. The old NHL was much better. I think its been like 4 years now since i watched a game from beginning to the end.
-
The NHL should rescind the entire Non-Infraction because that was what it was a non-infraction.
-
You tweeted: “spending a long time working on PP today.”
They can work on it until the cows come home and it won’t make a bit of difference with Rolston as the “go-to guy.” Do they really not see that he’s not very good at hitting the net, holding the puck at the blue line or making good passing decisions with the extra man? Even worse, he’s absolutely terrifying when the other team sets up a shorthanded play going the other way. He can hardly skate backwards and never takes a good angle.
5-on-5 he’s looked a bit better recently. That’s all well and good. But please, please take this man off the power play.
-
agreed, he has no business on the PP unless you want the PP to fail.
-
-
Kevin can you please do some of your diligent digging on Garth Snow. Specifically why we are three (3) months into the season and he has yet to address the fan base. The media needs to make him more accountable. He can’t ban everyone!!! Do something the Newsday writers have yet to do, get something of substanse from Snow. Tell the fans want to know and we wont take no for an answer.
Lastly, hearing reports of potential deals going down this week not sure it would include considering no on this team should be untouchable for the right price.

All the Comeau lovers out there here is a little update.
After going scoreless in 16 games with the Isles, Comeau has four points and is +1 in 9 games with the Flames.
Not much of an impact even after the change of scenery.
-
Comeau’s problem is his work ethic, it was never sceneray, coach and/or contract!!!

While pass interference could be called on just about every play in the NFL, and defensive fouls and traveling could be called on just about every possession in the NBA, only in the NHL can a player get such a harsh penalty and ejection for something that should not have even been a call at all. How could the refs give out a 5 minute major penalty and a game misconduct for something they could not have possibly seen because IT DID NOT HAPPEN?
-
Exactly right Dan C. The refs constantly call penalties for things they don’t actually see. They are reactive to a players response to a hit, whether it’s real or a dive. The two ref system has cheapened the officiating. I wouldn’t have thought it possible that I long for the days of the 80′s when refs like Ron “have another donut you fat pig” Hoggarth was officiating. He may have missed calls but at least he was consistent, wouldn’t call a penalty if he didn’t see it happen, and rarely called penalties on obvious dives. I know it was a different era back then in terms of clutching and grabbing but the basic penalties remain the same and it just wasn’t like this on a regular basis back then.
-
-
the refs blew the call, and the guy got a 5 minute misconduct he didnt deserve. hopefully, the Isles file a protest of some sort, NHL mans up, admits to the error, and rescinds the misconduct. the game is over, we caught a bad break, move on.
nice piece on the prospect defender. i love a guy standing 6 ft, clocking in at 190 lbs in junior is considered “smallish”. ask jurcina, a giant of a man whos not too physical. 6ft flat can be plenty physical, if that is how the defender DESIRES to play.
despite the change is authorship ona day-day basis, this site has only improved. well done kevin, thats some big shoes you standing in. now, we need to beat the Habs.. -
It became a major penalty because Orpik was jawing at the ref. As far a rescinding the ejection it probably won’t happen since Lemieux will complain that the Islanders still deserve more penalties for last year fightfest.
-
Kevin (or anyone else) did you see Snows comments today lol, he is delusional.
-
what comments? where? when does the guy actually speak? i googled it but all i got was his wikipedia page….ffs this managment bites.
-
-
He commented about the team through the newsday blog…he thinks this team is def a playoff team, and the 3 goalie thing will be back because he is not trading (and not trying to) any of the goalies. DP will be back sooner rather than later.yay!
-
He also said the team that Nolan had in the 7 seed into Feb a few years ago was a cup contender so let’s take back pats with a grain of salt. He also thought DP was a better option than a sumo in net ……. Lol.
Lets look at some recent Stanley Cup teams …
Bruins = Chara
Hawks = Keith
Wings = Lidstrom
Ducks = NiedermeyerIsles = ???
-
Are you kidding isles- mottauo
-
-
It must be hard to speak with Wang’s hand up his back.
-
are you kidding me? now i know this team is moving. what a disgrace.
-
-
I just heard that the league is going to allow Rolston to shoot at the Zamboni entrance during the power play. Maybe now he can hit his target.
-
If anything, Jurcina should take Rolston’s spot on the powerplay. That guy has a bomb. He should be the guy everyone is trying to set up.
-
-
Haley should be with the Isles full time to deter other teams from taking liberties on the Islanders stars. What a joke.
-
If hayley was only American 38 years old and making $5 mil and we were $5 mil under the cap, he’d dress everyday and even get some PP time.
Oh wait, I just described Rolston … My bad. Technically Garth wang’s bad I guess.
At least the 2 headed, 1 brained monster talk once per year about the state of the team. It usually occurs at the draft right after Kevin Connolly makes the selection of our latest lottery pick.
-
Larry David is now head scout.
-
-
Improve the defense or the season is over.
-
Haley to Bridgeport? I hope its for recall of Gilles? Team needs toughness desperatly and they send it down? ? Sell Wong!
-
Ha Wang is too cheap to players
to be scratches so he stays with 20. Meanwhile reasoner and mattau play. Bs -
I laugh at people calling for Gillies and Hailey like they actually make a difference. The guy’s are bums that no other team would even consider for a tryout let alone a roster spot. It shows how pathetic this fan-base really is. The only way this team gets better is through relocation, new ownership, new managment and ohhhh….I don’t know…maybe a professional coaching staff? American hero Doug Weight sure knows how to run a PP eh? lol Clowns….from top to bottom.
-
Obviously from a RAGS fan. Sad but true.
-
Either a Ranger fan or a D-Bag. Not much of a difference.
-
-
Haley can skate and doesn’t have bad hands for the role he plays. All teams need kickers goose. They aren’t asking him to be grabbed and at the same time the isles have spots being wasted by uninspired play.
-
-
Now hamonic was given a game misconduct last year in the feb 11th game, so is this his second or is the three strike rule over the course of a year
-
Look on the bright side the Islanders Double Shift Pack is on sale…”Double Your Fun”
-
Good thing they sent that no heart over-the-hill Haley down to the farm.
-
We need guys with heart, hustle, toughness, and skill….you know, someone like Reasoner.
-
I would be greatly remiss in failing to note HAPPY BIRTHDAY BILLY SMITH!!!!
If only he carved out a career like immortal Mike Dunham maybe he’d still be our goalie coach. Then again Smitty didn’t room with snow in college so I guess not. We are running the snow-weight school of washed up Americans here.
-
Sending haley down is the wrong move. He should be in the line up and not reasoner.
-
So will Haley be gone for Thursday or will Fistric and company have another uncontested free for all? On the fence about buying tix for this contest. Not sure I can handle watching Reasoner collect a paycheck once again.
-
Please don’t buy tickets…please…i am not buying tickets again unless someone is fired, waived, traded for(and no draft picks),haley and or gillies brought up, or a twenty game win streak(cause they owe it to us)..
-
-
what a low life snow is. when snow is asked by the media if the bogus call was reported to the nhl so the penalty can be averted, his answer is no comment. i guess he learned from wang. do nothing but destroy the franchise beyond repair and just say no comment to everything.
-
Snow thinks the Ricky Red Light is an asset to this team?? What drugs is he on??? After reading Snows comments my only question is who will the Isles be picking with the 3th pick in the draft?
-
just read the Snow Q&A, does he really think the playoffs are still on the table? We;re 7 points out and need to leap frog 6 teams, but only 2 points out of the cellar, guess wer’re a lock huh?
Someone else said this, but really, there needs to be a media investigation into Wang/Snow. I mean either they are the worst owner/gm in the history of the NHL, or they are deliberately sinking this team, maybe for another top draft pick, maybe to facilitate moving the team. Either way, its a story, that needs to be told
-
Another look at the bright side, only 6 more months for the draft, hip, hip hooray!
-
Hey Tedge,I still do not understand people supporting Wang and these misfits,by buying tickets, they should be sending a message to the front office to either improve the team, or get the hell out of the way, they both are part of the problem, and not the solution. Why do some fans believe that all will be ok soon,it;s perplexing, but it’s their money and they can waste it,I would rather burn it then permit Charlie to “play me” like a fiddle.
-
IslesNation,
Some posters here need to get a grip. I bought a partial plan because I love and support team and heck _ who knows ? _ how much more live hockey do you think we’ll see on Long Island after 2015? All this bravado of “don’t by tickets.” I mean, are you all for real?
-
-
We have a tough schedule coming up the Habs today, the Stars Thursday, and the Wild on Saturday, and all I can say about that is Que Sera, Sera.
-
Nabakov and then DP will start the next 8 games, Isles will go 1-7 and the hole will be dug even further again…our GM thinks DP is an asset to the team…and pooof DP’s “indefinite groin injury” is all better and he is skating again. Haley demoted as well…looks like Garth was tired of letter Capuano play the team he wants
-
Cappy still not sure..days later…if Snow has addressed the Hamonic BS call with the NHL…great communication going on between coach & GM
-
All you season ticket holders can gripe all you want. Unless the chanting starts at home home, nothing will be heard from us.
Will somebody answer this please? Is the “loudville” section still in tack at home? I don’t hear jack from any fans at home games.
This section is suppose to be a young college section. I bet Wang knows where the chanting starts from and got rid of the section. smart move be old dog Charlie. He is catching on to us. -
At least Milbury was good for some great comments. Garth sits up in his office with a robot hand and talking into a fan…….
-
During the next islanders draft party they should put snow and wang in center ice and we can stone them.

thanks for the rundown..didn’t know about the 3 strike rule
