  1. avatar The New Isles GM says:

Reese played extremely well during the pre-season. Not bad. Still keeps us on the small level. Would have preferred Wishart, but Reese is a good choice to. Could the Islanders finally have found their groove?

  2. avatar The Sick one Six says:

I hope reese plays well enough to stay when A Mac gets healthy. that will force Management to sit Eaton or Mattou. Because if he is playing well and they send him back to BP it will be very obvious that this team is not committed on winning!

  3. avatar Brian G says:

I guess since Amac is Day to Day that means he is out unril next week…just like montoya

    • avatar Catman says:

Amac looked a bit shaky after blocking that shot in the last few minutes of the Sabre’s game. A shame, since he’s looked more like his old self lately.

I hope Reese plays well too. It would be great to add some speed or muscle to the defense and sit guys line Eaton and Mattou. it’s obvious that teams don’t fear skating into the Isles end of the ice. Outside of Hamonic, no one is going to hit you, and outside of Streit, no one has any speed. Streit is a good # 2 or 3 D-man, with Hamonic about the same. Amac is a good 4-5 D-man, but that’s all the Isles really have. I wish back for the days of Martinek and Hillen. Martinek had speed, and could cover the speedy forwards of the other teams. We have no one that can do that now. Hillen and Martinek could also skate and make plays to the forwards: outside of Streit, not much in the way of offense from the back side.

      • avatar Dan C. says:

How is it that Jack Hillen issn’t good enough to play for the Islanders, who have no depth on the blue line, but he is good enough to play for Nashville, who have arguably the most depth at defense in the NHL?

I can’t say I was all that sorry to see them go at the time, but if you are going to shuck off Hillen and Martinek, you have to be certain you will have better options.

        • avatar Danfromouteast says:

Exactly gone gervais, martinet, hillier and in eaton, motteau, Staois. Staois does play his heart out and us a good seventh or eight dmen. But if anyone can point out how this is an upgrade

        • avatar Jerky says:

          Well said Dan!

        • avatar Fee-Show says:

As I posted yesterday (under my alias), The replacement for Hillen was to be Mark Katic,
who unfortunately was injured, or Wishart, who unfortunately stunk up training camp.

As far as “plastic man” Martinek, one thing he proved over the years is that you could NOT depend on him to play in too many games.

There are a number areas where Garth can be criticized. From my view, the release of Hillen and Martinek are far down the list.

  4. avatar moonshine says:

my impression of reese was that he doesn’t skate very well by nhl standards. maybe i’d prefer wishart. but reese has seniority over wishart.

  5. avatar Bean322 says:

alright reese is back…dont need bobby ryan anymore

  6. avatar isleopine says:

Reese is not an equal replacement for AMAC, but he is a good puck mover and is certainly has a lot more speed then mottau. So the hope is that he can become a good replacement for mottau and Isles can wave the latter when AMAC comes back

  7. avatar jisles says:

Once again, props to A-Mac for sacrificing the body in the dying seconds, and Hamonic on the 5 on 3!

  8. avatar IVO says:

    amac stay well please!

  9. avatar Danfromouteast says:

DP likes no loves to leave the crease why not let him earn his paycheck and put him on defense

  10. avatar Dk says:

Reese makes Mottau look like Ray Bourque. We didn’t need need Hillen and Martinek with these guys.

Streit and Hamonic get ready for 32minutes tomorrow.

  11. avatar Les says:

Mottau, Eaton and now Reese. 1/2 of our d-line consists of guys that shouldn’t be playing in the A.H.L. That is absolutely terrible. I think I just popped an aneurism.

  12. avatar Dk says:

    Snow is inept.

We all know Wang won’t go for spit, but he let’s solid guys that want to be here like Hillen, Kanopka, and even Martinek go for far less than big money.

At least he knows how to fire Nolan, TROTTIER,and Janikowski. He is a complete clown.

  13. avatar FedUp says:

Well to say that this Team Lacks Depth, is a under statement. Reese is a sure game changer, lol!
Just again poor planning and Spending by Charles Wang and Garth Snow. Imagine if this team got hit with injuries like last year. Oh yah, their would be no difference in play or the standings. Typical!

Just a little Humor to share, here is a link on the worst mascots in the NHL the Islanders rank #3 for having a dragon mascot for a Hockey club! Kevin this is a good laugh please do not delete or add the link yourself. We need some humor around here.

    sparkyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

When I went to the 93 reunion to meet and greet players . I was looking for

    Nilessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

I was hoping he would tackle sparky

did we ever have another one before Niles?

maybe reese gets a call because he’s trade bait and garth is going to surprise us all and bring in Ryan as some package deal.

I’m just hoping the streak keeps going and we take it game by game.

    LETS GO ISLANDERS !!!!!!!!

  16. avatar Michael Clay says:

The Isles should claim Matt Walker on re-entry from Philly. Gives us a good defensive D-man with size and a little grit. Not sure if we have to send anyone down, but if we do then send Mottau down and bring him back up if Walker does not pan out.

  17. avatar kingdm9 says:

Hey Lazy Fans give some Allstar votes to are kids!!!! I just want to see are team out there.

We have one of the most populated states in the country their is no reason we couldnt force the nhl to make JT the top center over sid bitch. Let alone the isles first line sqad

    http://vote.nhl.com/:b=firefox8/#/ballot

At least this is one way we can control the islanders faith of getting or kids to play with the best talent.

I voted jt grabs ko mark and hammer with al in net .

you get to put in 30 votes each

tell your friends tell your grand ma

    LETS GO ISLANDERS !!!!!

    • avatar rick says:

I really hope you are in elementary school. I like that you ARE trying to get OUR guys into the All-star game. But “ARE”, “OR”, and “OUR” are not interchangeable. “THEIR” and “THERE” do not have the same meaning.

(after reading this,I realize this comes off as rude, it is not meant to be. Its a joke with a real point.)

Now that thats over, I don’t like that you have to LOG IN to vote for the all star game. I do not want the NHL to send me 10,000 emails a day about stuff i don’t care about. I guess I can’t vote for our kids without the NHL sending my email address to all of their corporate partners. I hate the internet.

  18. avatar Claude says:

Hillen was small but the boy could skate and push the play I saw him as a Rafalski like dman
All Mike mottau does is make mistakes . If Reese can’t play better than him , then he deserves The bridge

  19. avatar Jersey Steve says:

I liked Hillen…and he threw the occasional hipcheck which was sweet. Reese is definitely better than Mottau. Martinek was better than all of them (when healthy).

  20. avatar chris says:

my god thses players are awful..reese and amac????? we have 1 good defensmen and thats streit

  21. avatar Nyifan11 says:

    Keep Reese dump Mottau

  22. avatar pruggier says:

Hillen and Martinek? we finished in last with both of those 5’10″ 150 pounders. Our best hope is that we stink all year and get the number one pick who hopefully is a can’t miss superstar, that is all. Reese PLEASE. Why did they trade Wishart for Roloson? if they are not going to use him or bring him up they should have just gotten a draft pick for him. Well maybe if they had a scouting staff that could actually give advice to Snow it might have been different. Did the Tampa GM just Jedi Mind trick Snow into taking Wishart? What a Joke! There is just no rhyme or reason to anything they do. Snow and Wang have gotten away with murder

  23. avatar Dk says:

There is no way we shouldnt claim Matt Walker at 50% pay. He immediately would be our #4 dman …. As sad as that may be.

  24. avatar Charlie says:

There are just too many geniuses on this blog that should be a GM of an NHL team.
Last year Mottau was injured all year and Eaton is now injured. Now all of a sudden the ‘rocket scientists’ of this blog think that Reese is the second coming of Orr.
    He is not ready.

  25. avatar Dk says:

Reese isn’t the second coming of Phil Orr!!!

  26. avatar D in Big D says:

Amac or Reese are one in the same.OK I’ll give Amac a slight edge but he just gets manhandled, always looking for poke check instead of taking the man & where’d his offensive game go?Not impressed @ all w/ him but then again he is not a top 4 D-man more like a very good 5.We’ll see if Garth hits the waiver wire.
