GAME DAY: Senators at Islanders, 1pm

by Kevin Schultz on February 20th, 2012 at 11:48 am

Courtesy Renee Kalicicki

Ottawa Senators at New York Islanders 1pm ET
Uniondale, NY — NVMC — MSG+, RSNE

The Islanders host the seventh place senators at the Coliseum in a matinee today and head to Buffalo to play the 14th place Sabres tomorrow. Two games do not make a playoff team, but with only four to go before the deadline they can certainly have a strong hand in determining whether talent will be staying or going (glances in PAP’s direction).

If you’re heading out to the Coliseum today, please beware of giant-headed long-dead Presidents. They may be skating on the ice, high-fiving and trying to eat your children. Maybe not so much on the eating part.

TODAY’S LINES
Moulson – Tavares – Parenteau
Grabner – Nielsen – Okposo
Rolston – Bailey – Martin
Niederreiter – Reasoner – Pandolfo

Streit – MacDonald
Ness – Staios
Jurcina – Eaton

Poulin
Montoya

Scratches: Wallace(healthy), Nabokov(flu), Wishart(healthy)

  1. avatar Io20720 says:

I am pretty patient, but I dont understand how Rolston is still in the line up. There is nothing to lose to move Niño up to baily’s line and insert Wallace next to Reasoner and Chief Jay Pandolfo.

    • avatar Rob hock says:

Funny…how many people have wrote that exact same thing? #annoying

    • avatar Orange&Blue says:

Right on the money! Rolston is awful. Rhakshani played with a lot of energy in Rolstons spot for 4 games. Too many Castoffs on this team. Reasoner, Rolston, Mottau, and Staios all need to go!!

  2. avatar Game Misconduct says:

Reading this site and the comment section for years now…finally I am the first to post up a comment…and I have nothing constructive to offer!

  3. avatar Game Misconduct says:

Beaten to the punch by seconds….foiled again!

    • avatar David in Woodmere says:

Just like the isles….when we think we have something good going, the rug gets pulled out from underneath us and we look like fools in the process.

  4. avatar Nick M says:

As much of an optimist I am… (I really do believe the islanders will make The playoffs) today is a game they will lose. A chance to get within 4 point of Toronto and they play NJ tomorrow… Islanders will feel the pressure and get beat 3-1. Hopefully in wrong and the isles get within 4 points

    • avatar Io20720 says:

Bailey is finally showin some creativity and he is being punished by playing with Rolston. I love Martin, but I think he is holding Josh back a tad too. I think Niño and Bailey would make a pretty good tandem. I question Grabner. You have to wonder if he was playing hurt for a while.

  5. avatar RED says:

I read in today’s Newsday that Okposo was held out of practice yesterday with the flu. I guess he recovered enough to get into today’s line up. Too bad, as I agree with the above poster that it would have allowed Capuano to move Niederreiter up. I just would have moved him even higher into that spot with Nielsen and Grabner and finally give the kid a chance to play with some creative forwards…

    • avatar eric says:

4-0 ottawa.Day 8 of nabokovs flu.Stop the lies wang and snow. This has got to stop right now. They are ruining neiderreiters career.Clark gillies please walk into this punk wangs office please somebody do something to help our beloved islanders. This is not a rebuild, that is another lie

  6. avatar BanGarth says:

Nabby on day 8 of the flu. Stay classy Isles front office.

  7. avatar JTtheFuture says:

i cant stand seeing rolston’s name anymore. it makes me sick

  8. avatar JTtheFuture says:

Also just a question, why does a broken nose make you unable to skate? I just read that Hamonic just started skating on his own today, I don’t get it.

    • avatar Matt says:

you serious? i will ask again, are you serious? This site is becoming unreadable.

Kev you are great but maybe the comment section should be deleted?

    • avatar go isles says:

You need to breathe to skate and with a taped nose it is hard to breathe. Isles really need to win this one today. GO ISLES
Noabokov on 8 days with flu is odd unless he was really in bed for 6 of those days — maybe he really does have flu or maybe a trade is in the works. Who knows.

    • avatar Adrian says:

Hamonic had surgery after getting hit. Generally, when you have any type of nose/sinius surgery you can’t have any physical activity for about 2 weeks. You don’t want to pop any of the freshly healing the blood vessels in the nose.

    • avatar Whaaaaaaaaaaaat says:

He’s really trade bait and the islanders are keeping him out of the lineup to keep his trade value

    • avatar Sidd Finch says:

Did you ever try to breath out of a broken nose? Most of these guys are tough, but you get winded real fast if you can’t breath.

  9. avatar Piper (in DC) says:

This team will look different in a week. Hopefully it a GOOD type of different.. lol

Also breathing correctly is kind of important when playing a sport. Just saying.

  10. avatar Isles4cups says:

C’mon Islanders…stick it to the Senators today!

  11. avatar Danfromouteast says:

Holy crap! Can they play some defense? That’s what happens when you have no physical defense man

  12. avatar Bean322 says:

Down 2-0 with 18 minutes left in first…..im glad we put out our energy line on and got some hits in or even a fight to wake up the boys….jeez
where is our steve webb/Michael Haley…this is sad

  13. avatar we stink says:

    what a start.

  14. avatar Vato Kakes says:

Poulin is not the answer for several years to come….Who the hey is responsible for this call..common big al lead us…

    • avatar Paul says:

Yea but so many fans already wrote him in as a sure great player. Just like they did with KO and JB. ROFL!!! Once AGAIN, Isles show their true cowardly colors in a must win game. PATHETIC.

  15. avatar CM says:

This is what happens when your team is not prepared. Ott obviously more prepared and hungry. Coaching 101 which Cap does not have. Starts like this squarely fall on the coach.
Does not matter who you ice. Starts with Owner, GM and coach, which are biggest problem. Wins and losses do not mean anything. With this ownership team is going nowhere.

  16. avatar Isles4cups says:

Tough start for Poulin. Streit made a horrible pass through his own zone on the first goal and then lost his check on the second goal. I agree, no energy line after the second goal. Someone has to step up and challenge one of the Senators to wake up the team and the building. Haley in and Rolston out.

  17. avatar Isles4cups says:

    Game over…

  18. avatar Bean322 says:

nice…only took about 20 minutes to realize i dont have to watch this crap, go out and enjoy my day off…we all know how this one will end

  19. avatar terry b says:

3-0 late good time to send out our tough guys and try and change the momentum,oh wait we dont have any tough guys..

  20. avatar CM says:

Even OTT announcers blaming Cap. Saying the Isles players are guessing what OTT players will do next.
Owner and GM do not seem to be going anywhere. The biggest move is to change the coach. Never mind the roster. A good coach gives you a chance.

  21. avatar we stink says:

HAPPY PRESIDENTS DAY …. What a joke.

  22. avatar John says:

I can’t believe they are getting spanked this bad…and now PAP is out for 12 min!?!

  23. avatar IslanderFan says:

@Vato Kakes i hope you arent serious with that comment…give me a break!!! the defense in front was awful…Streit was horrible (he sucked this year) Poulin is their goalie for the future..clearly you dont know nothing about him..in the juniors he was the top goalie…Patrick Roy!!!! said it the he was the best goalie in Canada.

    • avatar Paul says:

This is not the juniors. Let me know when he gets it done at NHL level. BIG difference.

    • avatar Vato Kakes says:

ease up youngster you is what the ISLE nation needs on the ice…sounds like your full of vim & vigor..and to your bashing of my hockey knowledge…top goalie in the jrs..this aint the jrs kid…or bridgeport…caio from Vato Kakes…

  24. avatar BanGarth says:

Cap and Garth have to go they are amateurs , end of story. Rolston should retire now while he still has some dignity left.

  25. avatar IslanderFan says:

Please give me a break the OTT announcers its a love fest for their team…they reminds me the PITT announcers who are horrible….cant believe some of Potvin words he`s all over Nino complaining about him…shut up Potvin.

  26. avatar terry b says:

listening to howie and butch is also painful

  27. avatar Sidd Finch says:

All this Haley talk is crap. I’m not defending Rolston, Wallace or Pandolfo here, but let’s get some youth up here that will be the future of this team. I don’y understand why we didn’t just pay Nielsen last year rather than picking up these garbage contracts. Hell, even Hunter would have been better than these road cones. Kind of disappointing for someone standing in line for a pretzel and a beer to be down 2-0 befoer your ass hits the seat. This team is definitely manic-depressive.

  28. avatar IslanderFan says:

Another proof those Ottawa announcers are horrible they said oustanding period for the Senators…wtf? its the Isles that were horrible with no life and no energy.

  29. avatar Brian G says:

Horrible showing by the Isles….wow I know there was 2 bad give aways but you need to stop that 1st goal….Nabokov must be really laid up sick…Horrible penalty by PAP, you have to be smarter than that…

  30. avatar Palffy 16 says:

Great start boys. Way to go Cappy, how about you actually take a time out and scream at your players in front of everyone FOR ONCE! What a pathetic team. HUGE game and you come out sleeping…what a horsesh-t team. It’s time you send Nino/deHaan/PA and a 2nd to Vancouver for Schneider. This team’s goaltending is atrocious. F

  31. avatar IslanderFan says:

Thats why Potvin was fired from the Panthers broadcast and could only find a job in Ottawa!!

  32. avatar Anthony says:

Team comes out completely flat in a must win game even though bad goals were let in. Cap sucks that is a coaches responsibility for them to come out better. Also what is he thinking putting Rolston on first line with PA in the box lol that is a joke. Snow way to have someone to spark the team. Perfect way for a guy like Haley to spark the crowd and team.

  33. avatar the truth says:

How does this team not come out and hit, to set the tone. All on the coach he should have drilled this in their heads .Two give aways defensive zone 2 goals.p.a goes off 10 minute and instead off nino he puts rolston out there?what is this coach smoking after the give aways these 2 shouldnt have seen ice time for the rest off the game.Who wants to trade nabby now?Poulin will learn,Nabby will teach.

  34. avatar IslanderFan says:

Some of you are just down depressing to read when you read someting like trade Nino, trade PA……

  35. avatar the truth says:

Anthony me and you totally agree wow I wonder how many t.vs got broken from 100pm to 130pm.This coach is clueless.

  36. avatar jisles says:

I do not mean to disrespect anybody; no offence intended, but this team needs a Canadian staff. Coach, assistant, Weight, G.M, Owner are all American; we need some real hockey sense infused into this team! Wish we had a guy like Brent Sutter teaching our young guys. And you know why Cappy got cut from the NHL: lacked work ethic and was lazy.

    • avatar Mad Mike says:

I’m not sure how to respond to this post and I am Canadian. There’s some awful Canadian coaches around too. I do agree with the hockey sense part of if though. Capuano is in over his head. Randy Carlyle is currently unemployed. And he’s Canadian…

  37. avatar we stink says:

    woooooooooooooooooow. what a shame…

  38. avatar 2Bit says:

Really am hoping this team gets a new head coach and some help on defense next season!! What a Sh show.

  39. avatar Dk says:

If a few guys on the team had the cojones of Matt Martin

I guess hayley does … Oh but right we was suspense once so the owner banishes him and GM doesn’t want to upset the apple cart and tell the owner he needs to be here so we get Rolston or Wallace. Brilliant.

Is this the point and time where people start posting we are only 8 points back, be patient, snow hasnt decided yet what we should do ….blah blah blah.

  40. avatar Dk says:

Let’s get DP to retire so he could be the next GM …. It probably upgrades 2 spots at once. And to think the snow supporters talk about Showing support then they get a full house against an eastern conference team they need to leag frog and lay an egg. Where have we seen this before.

  41. avatar Tom D. from New Jersey says:

Same boring team that was shut out on opening night. Wang, Snow and Capuano are all clueless.

  42. avatar claude says:

    pathetic!!!

  43. avatar Nick M says:

Grabner and Okposo don’t deserve to be on the second line.
    MM-JT-PA
    Nino-franz-Martin
    Grabner-bailey-ko

  44. avatar Brian G says:

If they could get 2 quality prospects & a pick from the Kings for PA, I would have to pull the trigger b/c PA is not worth more than 3.2 for 2 years…I read online he is looking for a 3 or 4 year deal for around 4 mil per year…I’m sorry but this is not a playoff team

clear the deck, trade: Eaton, Jurcina, Staios, Nabokov (if not resigned), PA (if not resigned before deadline)….I read online NJ & CHI even have intrest in Marty Reasoner….wow

  45. avatar Joe Bacci says:

Call up Micheal Haley already, give us something to cheer for.

  46. avatar John says:

I know a lot of people don’t like the coach, GM and owner, but at some point, the players have to be held accountable, and for a game to go this bad, is pretty pathetic. I am sure Cap is screaming in the locker room, but man, one of these lines has to step it up.
I think at this point, Snow should start looking aggressively for a coach. Maybe Lindy Ruff may want a fresh start?

  47. avatar GeneF says:

    Just pathetic…

  48. avatar Anthony says:

This team is not a playoff team. With a tough schedule coming up against the east they will finish closer to 14 th then 8th. Tavares, Moulson, Martin and Hamonic are the only untouchable players. Get what you can for everyone else.Lose Cap also he is not an NHL coach, but then again Snow is not an NHL GM

  49. avatar Bob says:

4-0 end of second, 27-10 shots on goal for Ottawa. Yup the Isles are playing with desparation!! Absolutely pathetic how much of a Jeckyl and Hyde team this is.

  50. avatar Fauxrumors says:

Hopefully the team will reaize the playoffs are a pipe dream and trade Nabby. He’s NOT the future. Ride Montoya until a younger guy is ready to step in. (Why didn’t Montoya start today??)

  51. avatar NYISLES001 says:

Do not let Snow back at the draft table please with another top 5 pick. He is liable to pick a guy ranked in the third round by central scounting.

NO EXCUSES ANYMORE FOR THIS TEAM.

  52. avatar NYISLES001 says:

Cap is screaming in the locker room, he ran out of duncan donuts.

  53. avatar NYISLES001 says:

Okposso is another one. He actually hit the net and scored yesterday. Most of the times he can’t hit the side of a barn. Isles scouts are the worst in the league in spotting kids with natural goal scoring talent.

  54. avatar NYISLES001 says:

Trade for more draft picks, finish lousy and draft Gregenko or if very lucky Nail Yukapov. Time for a new GM and coach. Draft big fast defensman in the 2nd to 7th rounds.

Hope that by the time you have a supporting cast for Taveras he is not 30 years old.

    • avatar Greg says:

whoah chill there guy. your name is all caps, you’ve commented 4x in a row, and you spelled grigorenko, Yakupov, Okposo, and Tavares wrong. Brutal

    • avatar Orange&Blue says:

No, your under Snow’s curse. Sign Nabby and PA. Trade for a vet fwd and dman and make a push for the playoffs. Enough with lottery picks. Dont forget who is making these picks. Snow gets no credit for Tavares because a baboon could have made that pick. Bailey, Nino, and DeHaan are not looking good thus far. Hopefully Strome comes through big. Couterier sure looks good in Philly. ID rather be watching him than Rolston.

  55. avatar Walt says:

What did you expect with this defense? This was never a playoff team. They need excellent goaltending just to steal games.
    Time to trade big time.

  56. avatar Nick M says:

Relax. Yes they blew a big one today but a win tomorrow and Toronto loss to NJ puts us within 4

  57. avatar TAG says:

The Isles would have a much better record if they could play an NFL schedule. Obviously this team can’t handle playing back to back games or 3 in 4 nights or 5 in 8 days. I can hear the excuses in the post game now, we have players with the flu, they had 4 days off we played Sat night, and so on. Martin goes to the box and all of a sudden all their fighters are in the box. Look at the teams that are at the top of the standings in the East they all can play chippy tough dirty hockey (PLAYOFF HOCKEY) they all can wear down their opponents the Isles can’t play that type of hockey with the makeup of this team. If the Isles somehow were to sneak in they would get killed in the first round unless their goalie could steal them the series. They need to add chippyness and toughness during the off season if they plan on moving up to the next level.

  58. avatar isles14 says:

is it to early to start drinking.ouch

  59. avatar NYISLES001 says:

Snow will not trade. He will just sign over the hill mrginal players to get to the salary cap floor. He will continue to draft midget defenseman, and reach for players ranked much lower by everyone else with his lottery picks. He will continue to be Charlie Wang’s butt boy, as Niel Smith refused to do and got fired. Yes I am mean, but paying $135 dollars a ticket and $20 to those prick/scumbags SMG for a lousy product for multiple years kind of does that to you.

  60. avatar Isles101 says:

    What a disgrace………

  61. avatar Paul says:

ROFL!! Where are all the Snow supporters now? The team is a disgrace. Cannot score, outside of Nabby ALL the goalies suck, d sucks, and team is a bunch of pussies lead by Ozbozo!! Watch them take a step backwards next year. What a joke!

  62. avatar Isles101 says:

How the fuk do u come out so flat in such an important game??????

  63. avatar Guy says:

I left after teh 2nd period today and will not be back until next season. It is just ridiculous how often we find ourselves down a
goal or two at home a few minutes into the game-that sets teh toem for everything. Without looking at the games in front of me I would think we have fallen behind in the first 5 minutes of homes games at least 6-7 times this season. Have a nice summer everyone.

  64. avatar fudgywudgy says:

Im sorry, this one is on the coach. He needs to be fired and they need to bring in an NHL proven coach. He is to friendly with the players. This was an absolute disgrace. The end of the rope for this season has officially arrived folks, sorry to break it to you………

  65. avatar NYISLES001 says:

    Isles101:

Easy, mix one part fat boy complacent coach, with a GM who drafts midget defensman, signs over the hill marginal players and blows top 5 lottery picks because he tries to out guess all of the other GM’s, with one part asshole owner who is throwing a hissey fit and won’t speak to the fans becauses he did not get his land deal.

    Thats how.

  66. avatar NYISLES001 says:

Capuano is a LOSER. Get it. A real winner shows kick-ass fire like Torterella

    • avatar Itsuksbeingislesfan says:

      I agree , nyisles001
Sorry but cappys got to go
These kids need a. NHL coach to progress
It’s not the kids , it’s how and where the kids are being used , their strengths and weaknesses are not being taken into consideration
Ppl are not playing with the right people and sometimes during a game if something’s not working , as a coach you need to adapt to game time situations and make modiificAtions to lineup to change the current state of team mental state and cap does not know how to do this
Taking a timeout when it’s 5-0 is not smart ,it’s stupidity and I’m not talking about today’s game
      He’s clueless at times
Needs to go , sorry cap I was a big supporter but no more

      • avatar Dk says:

How does anyone propose we get a real coach when Wang wont pay for one and snow is threatened by one. We could have gotten hitchcock in November or Carlyle by dinner tonight.

    • avatar Orange&Blue says:

Or, Torterella is an NHL coach with a Stanley Cup under his belt. Capuano is an AHL coach. There is the problem. Like everything else, Garth uses the “Always Save” cheap brand. Former NHL coaches dont even get considered. Cheapo would have to pay them and he wouldnt be able to control them. Garth is a puppet. NHL coaches are not going to go for that crap. Wang and Snow have themselves a little system that many of the real NHL personnel want nothing to do with. Hence, crap coach after crap coach appear. Snow will NEVER hire a legit coach. NEVER!!!

  67. avatar edward says:

6-0 ottawa. They exposed us fow what we really are.A patch work of a team assembled by a backup goalie gm.How the mighty have fallen 4 time stanley cup champion bill torrey al arbour to garth snow and jack capuano and the great CHARLES WANG.Snow i believe has a “special” relationship with wang.

  68. avatar Dave says:

Pathetic and unispiring hockey today to an almost sold out crowd. I can’t watch this team there a good team one game then an awful team the next! Besides you had Dennis Potvin the broadcaster of the Senetors what does he think about all this today. Note to Wang: in New York we want winners not losers. This is not the bluejackets or even Nashville.

  69. avatar Nick M says:

    Carlyle

  70. avatar william says:

First shot on goal goes in again!Thats gotta be the worst game they played this year.No one even tried! Good thing all the old guys were playing in such an important game.

  71. avatar NYISLES001 says:

You know what is is with Capuano that just really pisses me off. The guy never gets angry, shows anger. Just once, I would like to see him berate a player, throw a water bottle or something. Show some dam fire and passion that you want to win.

  72. avatar Itsuksbeingislesfan says:

No more playoff talk please , this team will not make the playoffs for what , to be embarsssed in the first round , you need to show up to play this game
This team has no heart , no passion
    All talk , no action
Need new coach , new GM , new owner and the retirement crew has to go now
    This is unacceptable

  73. avatar Orange&Blue says:

Disgraceful. The press conf after the game should be announcing Capuano’s firing. Inexcusable! You are 6 pts out and on home ice! This is effort you put forth for your whats left of your fanbase. Enough already!Get this Rolston character off the team. He is atrocious!! I hope Garth vomited his lunch because many of us wanted too!

  74. avatar Nick M says:

Per HHR twitter P.A Parenteau: Both sides negotiated yesterday, still a little off. P.A camp want 6 years, NYI offered $11.5M/4 year deal. More to come …

    • avatar Orange&Blue says:

Meet in the middle and give him 5. He deserves it. He plays with passion which I cant say for many Islanders players. He also is 5th in the league in assists. Only trails Sedin, Datsyuk, Giroux and Karlsson. He has more assists that Joe Thornton! That is impressive. Give him 5 years 15 mill. PA should jump at that. He’d be nuts not too.

  75. avatar Brian G says:

I’m sorry but this team is not jumping over 4 teams to grab the 8th spot…catching Ottawa is now out of the question.

Garth needs to shop PA, Nabokov, Jurcina, Eaton, Staios, even Reasoner….teams seem willing to pay the price of prospects and picks for UFA’s this year…clear the deck

    DONE

    • avatar Orange&Blue says:

Your nuts! Snow needs to sign PA and Nabby. PA is the only player who showed up today. Eaton can get us a 3rd pick. You take a look at Jurcina, Staios, and Reasoner’s stats and play of late. BTW, you forgot Rolston and Mottaus names on your list to shop. But when you have 5 players who are a combined over -70 you couldnt trade them to the KHL at this point. Dude, these guys are Castoffs and Has Been’s that our idiot gm put on our team because he has no clue. Staios, Mottau, Rolston, and Reasoner shouldnt even being playing in the league!! Thanks, Garth!

  76. avatar TimQ says:

    No excuses. Time to sell

  77. avatar NYISLES001 says:

    Itsuksbeingislesfan: you are spot on.

Unfortunatley, emperor Charles will not make any changes. Furthermore he will sell this team out to a Canadian city just to screw Islanders fans, which is why he and Picker are being evasive on any move to a new arena.

  78. avatar we stink says:

    inexcusable.
    pathetic
    lackluster
    uninspiring
    sad
    frustrating
    predictable
    annoying
    painful
    embarrassing
    lazy
    incomprehensible
    terrible….

  79. avatar NYISLES001 says:

Erik Carlson was drafted about 6 picks after Baily in 2008. Just thought I would remind Snow of that.

  80. avatar Isles since 6 says:

Anyone notice poulin has a habit of allowing early goals? Often if he lets in a quick one he’s also allowing the next one, it’s like he’s too pumped up and loses focus.

  81. avatar Nick M says:

Im not gonna lie I liked capuano’s press conference. He seems to see things like most fans do.
    Lame defensive
    Outside of Martin no physicality

  82. avatar NYISLES001 says:

    Itsuksbeingislesfan

Steinbrenner was passionate about winning, Wang is passonite about real estate deals. There is the main difference.

    • avatar Itsuksbeingislesfan says:

I know that’s why the schmuck needs to sell
I’m tired , along with isles nation of this year round horsesshiiiit

  83. avatar John says:

Oh man, losing a big game, one that everyone on that team knew was big, 6-0 to the Sens…just plain ugly. Also, to see other players like Carlson who were drafted below Bailey (courtesy of NYISLES001) is just upsetting.
Trade Bailey, KO and Grabner for Nash. Bring up Stromer and Raki, and put Nino on that line. And get a good coach. Start next year now!

    • avatar Orange&Blue says:

YOu think Okposo, Grabner and Bailey are going to get us Nash? Seriously? YOu really believe that? Maybe we should include Garth Snow in that trade too, lol! How is never never land? Your dreaming, dude.

Strome is in Juniors. We cant bring him up. We will see him in Sept. after he spends the summer training with his good buddy, JT. JT will have him ready.

I do agree that Raki should come up for Rolston.

    • avatar Itsuksbeingislesfan says:

      Sorry john
Trading these three and getting another three is not the answer
It starts with coaching staff , if we suk , its because they suk , they are not utilizing players as they should and letting over the hill players ( no disrespect , I would have loved to have each of these guys in their twenties) but they’re not twenty anymore is not helping this team and the coaching staff should know this
Yes their hands maybe tied on this matter because of management but players who produce should only be playing , the geriatric crew did nothing for this team
      Absolutely nothing

Josh Baily is emblematic of why this franchise has been so terrible the past 20 years. Busted draft picks and idiot owners.

Isles need a 15 game road trip. Apparently, the NVMC not only depresses the fans but the team as well. We are just awful at home!

We are angry because it is the same sh*t every year, year after year. The same excuses from ownership. The same poor draft decisions. Bad franchises are bad franchies, are elite franchises for a reason.

Wang had a real chance with this franchise when he hired Neil Smith after the Mibury debacle. Neil would not be Wang’s butt boy and that ended it. He hired Snow (who is), and who just does not have the talent to be top GM in this league. HE tries to outsmart everyone and winds up with egg on his face.

Make no mistake, draft mistakes (except for Taveras) are absolutley killing this franchise. How many chanegs do you get to pick in the top five like the Isles have had.

Ya, I know we all here about Czikas, the Krills and some others, but top end talent is top end talent and these guys are not.

Say what you like about Glenn Sather, but the guys at least has proven track record and has done it again with the Rangers.

      Agreed
      Another frustrating season.
      Another losing season
What hope we had from second half of last season – gone and obliterated
Another bs draft coming to stockpile another kid
And more bs coming from Garth this summer on how will fortify this team
And if anyone one of the Geri crew is retained this summer , I’m not buying tickets to any games

Glen Sather had some very lean years in Edmonton and New York and mainly lived off of the dynasty years in Edmonton in the early 80′s. Rangers teams were terrible up to a couple of years ago when they decided to stop throwing money at every problem and build the team through the draft, like every good team should be.

  87. avatar NYISLES001 says:

Similar to what the NY Jets have done with their high first round picks, when you make the number of missteps that the Islander’s have had in the first round, you absolutley kill your franchise. Add this to the Dipetro’s and other busts of the late 1990′s and early 2000′s and you can see why we have sucked for so long.

  88. avatar Nick M says:

Islanders need more physicality. Not talking about goons but just players who throw the body when necessary. But guys to turn away because THe pass is made. I prefer Wallace on the fourth line because he actually hits. Ullstrom is much better then rolston and reasoner.

Grabner is invisible, KO does nothing.

I would drop grabner ad Okposo to the third line. Bring nino up to second with Martin. And put the Retiredees on 4 line.

  89. avatar Nick M says:

Preds Mgmt will begin to offer a Blum + Halischuk + draft pick to upgrade top 6..
So why no offer anyone of grabner,Okposo, bailey or PA.

      From NHL Trade Rumors 2012

PA Parenteau is having a breakout 2012 NHL season with the New York Islanders. The 28 year old is a late bloomer, having played in the AHL for several seasons. He has 53 points in 59 games played and is signed for one year at a $1.25 million cap hit.

The right winger has scored most of his points on a line without superstar, John Tavares. Look for the New York Islanders to trade unrestricted free agent PA Parenteau before the 2012 NHL Trade Deadline.

No way Nabby still has flu. Most important game of year & we get a glimpse of what next year will be like w/o Nabby.Isles need great goaltending period although none of Sens goals were of the tough variety.Horrible effort by all involved.Monty is done & dare I say Poulins looking more like Fichaud.Anyone remember him?Enough of the build up w/ these players.Trust your eyes.Poulin may be good one day but is clearly not ready.Leave the guy in minors before his confidence is ruined.Has not looked the same since last knee injury.Just my opinion.
